30 years of MKA and she keeps getting better and better. Summer begins with MKA and The Homewreckers is the perfect summer/beach read! This novel has it all! Strong female friendships, mystery, family drama, a love triangle and a home renovation show! What more could you want? I absolutely loved this book. I highly recommend it. Once you pick it up, you will fall in love with Hattie Kavanaugh and you won't want to put the book down until you are done.

Hattie Kavanaugh has been through a lot in her thirty years. A divorce, a scandal with her Father, and then her beloved husband whom she married at 20, dying in an accident only 5 years after they marry. She is now working with her late husband's father in a joint house renovation company. She has been mildly successful but after her first renovation, the second one results in a tremendous loss. Hattie is broke and in jeopardy of losing her house she shared with her first love. Nothing seems to be going her way.

Enter Mo, a producer from Los Angeles, who is interested in producing a show about flipping houses in Savannah. He overhears a conversation between Hattie and Tug, her father-in-law, discussing her most recent project. He follows Hattie to her house and convinces her he wants her to be the star of his new show. Leaving only six weeks between purchase of home and final reveal, Hattie can't believe everything that is going wrong between a fire in the dumpster, faulty wiring, and a wallet found in the bathroom that belongs to her former English teacher, who has been missing for seventeen years. To add to that, both Mo and Hattie's handsome co-star Trae are both battling for her affections.

This is a wonderful romance/murder mystery/fiction, but it is also about learning to move on after loss, and what that feels like. I liked the character of Hattie, but I didn't love her. She felt wishy-washy and almost too simple. I wanted her to toughen up, especially with Trae. While the story is complex, I felt Andrews simplified it too much. I still loved the book as much as I loved The Santa Suit and can't wait to see what this author brings out next.

If you’re not reading the newest Mary Kay Andrews novel, is it really summer? This one started slow but ultimately I ended up enjoying it. The characterization is good and the setting is terrific, almost another character! The plot is solid. I Recommend.

The Homewreckers by Mary Kay Andrews review

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | Women's Fiction

🏠 Synopsis: Hattie Kavanaugh went to work helping clean up restored homes for Kavanaugh & Son Restorations at 18; married the boss’s son at 20; and was only 25 when her husband, Hank, was killed in a motorcycle accident.

Broken hearted, but determined to continue the business of their dreams, she takes the life insurance money, buys a small house in a gentrifying neighborhood, flips it, then puts the money into her next project. But that house is a disaster and a money-loser, which rocks her confidence for years to come. Then, Hattie gets a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: star in a beach house renovation reality show called The Homewreckers, cast against a male lead who may be a love interest, or may be the ultimate antagonist. It's a question of who will flip, and who will flop, and will Hattie ever get her happily-ever-after.

🏠 I've read great reviews on some of Mary Kay Andrews books and now I see why. I really liked how throughout the entire novel she managed to jump around several storie lines and tie them all into one. It had a little bit of mystery amd romance. My favorite part was how it drew me in trying to figure out who the murder was. So if you love murder mysteries and house flipping this is the novel for you. However, it left me hanging on the romance side. I would have wished to see more of Hattie and Mo's realationship. Overall I liked and enjoyed it, but most likely would not read it again. I will however look foward to reading another of her novels.

3.5 rounded up. This was a good entertaining beach read with little splashes of romance wrapped around a mystery. The mystery unfolds as the backstory of the characters is told while the setting is a beach house fixer upper tv show on Tybee Island, Georgia. I always enjoy Mary Kay Andrews' southern tales of the Savannah area and would recommend this one to readers looking for an easy beachy fun adventure.

A fun read for those who are addicted to HGTV, with a side of murder. This is quintessential Mary Kay Andrews and her latest doesn’t disappoint. It felt a bit predictable but was still a great, light read that is perfect for the beach

I love a Mary Kay Andrews book! She is the best at making you instantly invested in the characters and story. I lived in Savannah for several years and love that MKA ties in the city in such an accurate way. I loved Hattie and the mystery element with the murder was a perfect addition.

There are a few authors I look forward to reading every time they have a new real ease and Mary Kay Andrews is one of them. Her books are always full of mystery and romance and great characters and settings. The Homewreckers was no different! It was so well written and I didn’t want to put it down.

This one has a bunch of
promise as a great summer read:
9 hgtv type home-reno show,
we charming southern setting,
O years old murder mystery, and
romance
but it fell flat for me.
It was fine. I enjoyed the Savannah and Tybee Island
setting because we went there last year so it was fun to
read about, the mystery was intriguing until it started to
feel a bit gross, and the romance was lack luster.
I read it quickly enough and enjoyed it for the most part
but it was a bit too long and isn't a story that has stuck
with me after I finished it.
Three stars for me but it may be the perfect summer
book for you.

Mary Kay Andrews is my go-to read for the start of summer and once again, she doesn’t disappoint. I love that she can take a book that could just be a fun romance and go so much deeper with a murder mystery and some unexpected twists, yet still keep the ease of a fun summer read.

Hattie is a widow, working for a home remodeling company owned by her deceased husband’s father. After making a bad investment she is worried about the future. She is contacted by a producer of a home reno show that wants to do a show in her hometown of Savannah, Georgia. She reluctantly takes him up on his offer. THINGS DO NOT GO AS EXPECTED.

This book has it all! Murder, crime, a beautiful setting, a home renovation, a love interest, and some wonderful side characters.

The only downfall- Mary Kay Andrews loves a long novel. It was about 75 pages too long. I did like this one more than her last novel The Newcomer.

#readingshouldbefun and Hattie is a super fun leading lady.🏡

Thank you @netgalley for the advanced copy.

I like being able to count on an Andrews new summer book to deliver a good story, a bit of romance and again in this case, a bit of mystery. Hattie Kavanaugh and her father in law flip houses and do home renovations in Savannah. A Hollywood producer named Mo winds up in Georgia searching for the next big thing for a home centric network. Enter the photogenic Hattie and deal of a house they bid on and purchase out on Tybee. They only have six weeks to turn the eyesore into a reveal for tv. It's not long before there are wrinkles in the plan, nuisance visits from local inspectors and the possibility that the property may hold the secret to the disappearance of a young schoolteacher years earlier. Would be a great poolside read, short sections and easy to pick up anytime.

This had a little bit of everything - mystery, suspense, romance. The HGTV renovation show setting was unique and interesting! It definitely took some time to get into (~25-30%). I did feel the characters were quite surface level and two dimensional.

Thanks to NetGalley and publisher for advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Mary Kay Andrews is one of those authors that I either love and devour the book or I have to force myself to read it. I'm happy to say that this particular one was a joy to read and I loved not only every single character but also the way that Andrews weaves the violent mystery backstory into the happy main story. The mix of story and style elements really kept the plot moving.
You know Hattie and Mo are definitely going to end up together the second they butt heads as soon as they meet but seeing the way their relationship evolves as they face one challenge after another on the way to creating a hit reality TV show about restoring an old beach house in Savanah is where the story shines. Yes, there are other characters that add fun and/or emotional elements to keep the story moving, but it was always about Hattie and Mo interacting for me.
Then we also have the story of a missing school teacher that disappeared a decade ago and no one ever figured out what happened. The fact that Hattie had a slight connection to her felt a bit forced, yet I liked how it made the slow reveal of what happened to her much more emotional.
Overall, this one shines because there are great characters that practically breathe on the page. There's a little bit of everything to keep even the pickiest readers happy while still being a light, fun read that you can enjoy without much effort.

Happy thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the emotional read!

The Homewreckers by Mary Kay Andrews shows readers the majestic beauty of Savannah, Georgia. Andrews blends a deep mystery with the brilliance of a rom-com and wraps readers around her finger. Keep reading for more about this book and highlights from Tybee Island.

"Never love something that can’t love you back."

These are the practical words spoken to Hattie Kavanaugh by her father-in-law, Hank, who gives her this painful advice about houses. Hattie falls head over heels for a historic old house in Savannah, Georgia.

Unfortunately, saving the house isn’t possible. Hattie’s heart breaks for the loss of the old home. Her heart shreds not only for losing the house but because she placed her entire livelihood, and that of Kavanaugh & Sons, on this money pit. This gamble leaves Hattie needing money in a hurry to get the company and herself back on their feet.

Interestingly, a home improvement show producer comes along and offers Hattie the chance to host her own reality show. She needs the money, so she finally accepts the challenge. But, The Homewreckers quickly becomes its own animal, leaving Hattie with feelings she doesn’t understand. She also has trouble coping. Not to mention, the unearthed mystery of Hattie’s favorite teacher comes to light during the renovation.

The Homewreckers is the perfect summer read. Whether you sit next to the pool or on the beach, this book will keep you entertained long after the sun goes down. My only complaint is that the foil loomed larger than the happily ever after, which irked me a bit. Yet, this is an excellent read that I recommend to anyone who needs a little guilty pleasure in their summer plans.
