Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake was a decent enough story, but the characters just fell flat for me. Everything seemed forced and certain plot points (I don't want to give away spoilers) seem farfetched, even for fiction.

Thank you to Netgalley and publishers for access to an arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Lizzie & Blake>> I loved the way this story formed, it wasn’t just a two night stand, i loved the way Blake stepped up to be a man, moving across the world to be there for Lizzie & the baby, I loved the way he was showing her & and teaching her how to love herself. I loved that I got to see how the struggles Lizzie faced as a person with Adhd, The way her mother & father never accepted her.. the way she was always feeling down on herself because no one ever truly loved her. Ugh the way the relationship started between lizzie & blake I knew it was bound to be. 🫶🏽

I have to say, this trope is not my usual go to, but I really loved it. Mazes Eddings is becoming one of my auto buy authors! Her characters are so real, and I fall in love every single time!

This story is a fun open-door romance read. The first half of the book had me laughing and coming to like the characters, particularly Lizzie. She has ADHD and has spent her life apologizing for it among people who didn't understand her or try to understand her. The second half of the book had me cheering her on as she found her place amongst people who cared enough about her to understand and love her.

While I appreciate the ADHD representation as an adult female with ADHD, I found this story rather flat. Rake was a one-dimensional character, and Lizzie was very immature. She acted as someone who didn’t know they had ADHD vs someone who had been diagnosed young. I also didn’t find much of this to be believable. Rake instantly moved across the world for someone he knew for 48 hours—this is very farfetched.

I received an advanced copy. All thoughts are my own.

A chaotic and fun book that was a delight to read! Mazey Eddings writing style is fabulously unique and flows easily throughout the story.
Lizzie is an interesting character to get to know. She seems so carefree at the beginning but as we get to know the real Lizzie we find out that she struggles with adult ADHD. She is a loveable, outgoing character that lives her life as freely as she possibly can. Her ADHD gets in the way at time and she is not used to having support to get through her days since her parents are not very supportive. Enter her new biggest supporter, Rake. Lizzie and Rake's relationship is unexpected and yet they are perfect for each other. Their banter and quirky humor is fantastic and real. Rake is just what Lizzie needs but will she ever let herself admit this?
This is a steamy and wide open door romance. Even though it is the follow up book to "A Brush With Love" it can easily be read as a stand-alone. It was fun getting to know these characters through an alternating point of view. Lizzie and Rake's story felt real and was very enjoyable.
I am grateful to St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake
by Mazey Eddings
Pub Date: 06 Sep 2022

This book was honestly more enjoyable than I was expecting! I am not always a fan of the "one night stand/unexpected pregnancy" trope but this one worked. Both Lizzie and Rake were solid/likeable characters. While Lizzie and her ADHD could be a little much, her backstory and her want to be "better" really tugs at your heart. Add Rake is just a perfect balance to her chaos. Their romance and story are unique and well-written, and I cheered both of them on for a well-deserved happily ever after!

Oh my god, Mazey has done it again! She has made me swoon, cry and smile with her delightful rom-com. I started reading this book pretty soon after being diagnosed with ADHD, and I wasn't prepared to feel so represented in a fictional character. While everyone with ADHD is different, I saw myself in Lizzie and wanted her to have her happy ending. It felt like rooting for a friend/family member.

Rake was also a delightful human, and I enjoyed his character immensely. He did everything that a partner who is neurotypical should do. He was patient, understanding, and supported Lizzie when her own family and friends didn't get it.

I wasn't sure how to feel about the Surprise Baby trope, but it was done so well that I implore people who don't like the surprise baby trope to give this a chance.

LIZZIE BLAKE's BEST MISTAKE is a delight! I really enjoyed Mazey Edidng's follow-up to A BRUSH WITH LOVE, which I also loved. I was thrilled to receive this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review!

Lizzie's story is so fun and original - I loved the representation of ADHD and the themes of self-love and growth, along with a love story. I'll eagerly await Eddings future work and sincerely recommend this story!

I will start this review by saying I normally HATE the pregnancy trope.

I just don’t like it and I normally avoid books with this trope like the plague.

However… I LOVED A Brush With Love by Mazey Eddings so when I saw her second title was available to request I requested it so fast, I didn’t care about the synopsis. This could have been her grocery list and I wouldn’t have cared I loved her debut so much!

So, imagine my surprise when it turns out to be a pregnancy trope.

And I don’t hate it!

What I loved about this book was our heroine, Lizzie. Lizzie was absolutely perfect in the most unperfect ways. I LOVED the ADHD rep in this book and the focus on Lizzie feeling as if she is “too much” for most of her life.

I loved the messy family dynamics.

I loved our leading Australian man! And I especially loved how he loves Lizzie for the things which she felt broke her.

So yes, I’m giving a near perfect rating to a pregnancy trope book and I have no regrets. This is my absolute favorite execution of this trope and I again will read anything Mazey Eddings writes. Send me your grocery lists! I will read them.

Thank you so much to the publisher and Netgalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

I loved everything about Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake. This is EASILY one of my favorite romances of the year - I couldn’t stop reading. The depth of feeling and characterization on display here is just fantastic and I adored Lizzie and Rake’s developing relationship.

Mazey Edding’s writing style is just addicting and beautiful. She does such a wonderful job of exploring Lizzie’s adult ADHD and the struggles that come with it. She is chaotic and fritzy, at times - and self-deprecating to a fault. She has so much heart and cares deeply for those around her - and just wants to feel secure and loved. Rake was the perfect counterbalance. He’s a bit uptight and starchy, but never makes Lizzie feel like her brain is a burden. He is the absolute SWEETEST love interest and I’ll be counting my days until l find my own lmao.

My only complaint is that I don't think the act 3 conflict was necessary - especially after all of the other conflicts happening in the book. It felt a bit out of character from what we knew about Rake. While I loved how it was resolved, it just didn't fully work for me.

This book just made me happy - disgustingly happy. I was smiling and laughing the entire time. I can’t wait to pick up more from this author!

Thank you so much to NetGalley and St. Martin's Griffin for the advanced copy.

Mazey Eddings has done it again!

As a fan of A Brush with Love, I desperately wanted to see what Eddings came up with next, and I was absolutely blown away by this tender, beautiful story.

As someone who is a bit less neurotypical than others, I saw so much of myself in Lizzie. She had been told her whole life that she was too loud, too wild, too much. Her pain felt so visceral, and the way that Eddings handles this topic is so gentle and loving. The message she imparts is that you're worthy and deserving of love, no matter what anyone tells you.

And Rake, the sweet loveable Aussie man with the most amazing heart. What a perfect match for Lizzie. He loves who she is, and the way her brain works. She shakes him out of his cage and into a world of color and love. And he just gets her.

This book was as sweet as one of Lizzie's erotic baked goods and as tender as Rake's heart. All of it was an amazing story and I can't wait for her next book.

Lizzie Blake is struggling. She's on the cusp of losing her job when she meets Rake, an Australian in town for business. The two have a short-lived relationship, Rake returns to Australia, and Lizzie's life goes back to normal, until she finds out she's pregnant. Rake turns her life upside down when he insists on moving to the U.S. to be a father to their unborn baby. This book was much steamier than I expected but has a sweet romance at its core.

Lizzie Blake has made a lot of mistakes - no need to list them all. But after losing another job because of her uncontrolled ADHD, she breaks the “no more than a one night stand” rule, and ends up pregnant. Rake, the two might stand in question, uproots his life in Australia to make sure he can be in his child’s life. From their meeting to co-parenting, they are in for the ride of a lifetime.

I have never read a character I could relate to more, while simultaneously being almost nothing like Lizzie herself. Her inability to keep track of time, her passion, and a bag filled with anything and everything(guilty as charged) were great details and showed her ADHD rather than us hearing about it as a description.

Lizzie and Rake were adorable, as they tried to navigate living together, prepping for their newborn and adamantly denying feelings for each other. I could fall into this book again and again!

4.5 stars!

Wow! This book totally redeemed itself from the author's first book in this series!! I've got to be honest here. I didn't care for A Brush With Love. However, because I received an advanced copy of this book, which is the second in the series, I slugged through it. I was hoping this one would be better, but, honestly, didn't have high hopes. Boy, was I wrong! I loved this one!

I really enjoyed Lizzie and Rake and their banter and relationship. Their chemistry felt more realistic and was much more enjoyable than Harper and Dan's for me. We get a great storyline with this one, and although, some sections seemed a tad bit overly dramatic (i.e. how Rake's boss reacted to Lizzie and Lizzie's parents' treatment towards her growing up) I still enjoyed it, overall, and would highly recommend. I'd specifically recommend skipping the first book though, as you don't really need to know anything that happened in it, and should just go straight to this one.

**Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me an advanced copy of this book and in return I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review and opinion. I am posting this review to my Goodreads account immediately and will post it to my Amazon & Instagram accounts upon publication.

This book handled difficult situations with aplomb and humor. Very well written. I was invested in this story 200%. I love the characters and hope to read more from this author in the future.

This title turned out not to be for me. It was a DNF very early on. Lizzy's voice put me off and I realized I wanted to spend my precious reading time on a title that called to me more than this one did at the time. I have read quite a few favorable review of this title, so I think it is simply a case of "good for you, not for me." Netgalley forces me to give a star rating, but I didn't read enough of this one to offer a true star rating, so bear this in mind.
