Literally 10/10! I was so excited to get this advanced copy as I loved Mazey Eddings first book! Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake is fun, heartwarming, and definitely spicy. The characters, especially Lizzie, are witty and charming so you want to root for them and their happiness. This is a definite reread for me!

Thanks to Berkley Publishing Group, the author, and NetGalley for the free gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.

Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake is the first book I have read by Mazey Eddings, but I know people also really loved her first book A Brush with Love! (I plan to listen on audiobook soon)

I did not read the synopsis, so I had no idea this was going to be a story about a surprise pregnancy with an Australian one-night stand. (not a spoiler because it's on the synopsis). This plot line was absolutely hilarious and I loved how creative it was.

The characters were cooky and honestly a mess which made the story even better. If you don’t like open-door romances then this book is NOT for you. The steam level is high, and the scenes are wild.

Ahhh this was so special!!⁣

Lizzie had me laughing out loud hysterically at times. I want to be besties with her. Gosh sounds so vivacious and wonderful with the best sense of humor. I felt so bad for all of her self deprecating thoughts because her mother was the worst but I would’ve loved to be her friend. ⁣

Rake, swoon! For as level headed and calm Rake was, he was so soft and tender and sweet and literally just had my heart swooning with how much he adored Lizzie and how he saw her through his eyes and heart. He always said the sweetest things that I legit said “aawww🥺❤️“ I’m not sure how many times. ⁣

Bernadette- LOVED her. I want to be friends with her too. ⁣

This book was so warm and fuzzy and I felt Lizzie’s ADHD was handled so, so well. I loved that her friends and Rake, always supported her, even when she felt like her brain was on the fritz. Just adored this book so much.⁣

I really wanted to love Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake but I just couldn't fall in love with it. Like many others, I knew about the pregnancy plot line and I am not bothered by pregnancy plot lines in general at all; however, the evil ex who got an abortion without telling him feels like bad taste given the past few years. We know better and we know the current state of the world, I don't think this should have been a major plot point and to be honest, it kind of ruined the story for me. It's incredibly hard to look past and it feels like the characters were made pro-choice as a way for the author to get us to forgive that we are using this poor woman as a plot point and making her the villain for something that most women consider an incredibly personal choice.

Here's my thing: I genuinely DO NOT care what you believe, so don't assume this is me criticizing anyone who is pro-life. I won't discuss it with you and it isn't worth arguing. I just genuinely believe that in 2022 we can do better than villainizing a woman for a personal choice. The end. Arguments not welcome.

🧳Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake🧳

Rating: 4.5/5⭐️

I know the pregnancy trope isn’t for everyone but this book was so good! Lizzie is only interested in one-night stands… then she meets the Rake (with an amazing Australian accent) and has a two night stand. Weeks later she finds out she’s pregnant. Rake, who lives in Australia, moved to Philadelphia to help Lizzie and have a platonic co-parenting arrangement with her. Except it doesn’t stay platonic.

I loved the chemistry and banter between Lizzie and Rake. I thought their relationship was adorable and I loved how they helped and supported each other. I definitely recommend this book!

I truly enjoyed reading this book so much! It had humor. It had spice. And it had so many things that were nice. Plus some drama if that's what you're into. I really loved the main characters, Lizzie and Rake, and how they transformed overtime. How they started to realize what is truly important and value those things and people. Kudos to the author, Mazey Eddings, for not only presenting what life is like for ADHD people, but doing it in a way where readers can really connect to the characters. Everything just felt well thought out, intimate, informative, and very entertaining and I would definitely recommend this to others!

Following in the footsteps of own voice romance authors such as Helen Hoang and Talia Hibbert, Mazey Eddings creates a wonderful character with ADHD - Lizzie Blake. Through the book she finds her purpose, finds love, and realizes that all the negative things she believed about herself just aren't as true as she thought. Rating it only 3 stars as the main love interest Rake was pretty devoid of a personality other than being enamoured with Lizzie. Lizzie's personal transformation was somewhat glossed over, when all she needed was Rake's listening ear in order to feel better. There could have been more depth and I would have been glad for it! Was still a fun, joyful read.

Review ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake by Mazey Eddings

Lizzie is a bit of a mess, she knows it and she knows everyone knows it too. The only mistake she never made is letting anyone get closer than a single hookup. Rake has given hope on relationship after being burned by his ex. Yet… something about the charming and chaotic stranger he met at the bar has him lowering his guard. But, at last he must return home to Australia and far away from Lizzie. Until, a fateful phone call informing that him he and Lizzie will be parents in nine months turns his life upside... right?

After her smashing debut with A Brush with Love, Mazey does it again with this absolutely beautiful story about Lizzie and Rake. They had such an incredible connection. What I love about Mazey's characters is how relatable they are, and how easy I can identify with them. The author was able to capture the true heart of love and share it to us into words. I know Surprise pregnancy is not everyone's favourite, but please please please: Do yourself a favour and READ THIS. I loved Lizzie's messiness, it wasn't plot-driven or fabricated, it felt genuine and represented perfectly how life can get ahead of ourselves sometimes and make choices for us that we never thought would make us happy, but ultimately do. Lizzie and Rake had such a special connection. Yes, their chemistry was incredible, I mean sexiness right from the start. But, they shared a protective kind of intimacy that made me swoon all along.

Thank you to the publisher for the advanced reader's copy through Netgalley. As always, all thoughts and opinions are honest and my own.

I really enjoyed A Brush With Love when I read it and this is the second book in the same series, although it can be read as a stand alone. It follows Lizzie, who has ADHD and feels that whatever she does, she makes mistakes and messes. Because of this, she avoids relationships. After a one (or two) night stand with Rake, her best "mistake" is revealed. I found Lizzie to be funny and relatable and the author made ADHD and neurodivergence understandable. Rake proved able to love Lizzie as she is, unlike her difficult parents. There was a good deal of spicy scenes in this book. I don't love the accidental pregnancy trope, but besides that, this was a great rom com overall.

Women's Fiction

This is the best kind of romance novel. It doesn't just focus on the relationship of the two main characters, but rather on the life of the characters, in this case Lizzie Blake.

Lizzie has ADHD and comes from a family of overachievers so she has always felt like she is a mess. On top of recently losing yet another job she finds herself pregnant after a one night stand.

Rake is Australian, but came to the US for a work event. He met Lizzie at a bar and hooked up for a night. He went back home but can't stop thinking about her. When Lizzie calls to tell him she's pregnant, he uproots his life and moves to the states to be a father to this unborn child. What could go wrong?

Lizzie is a wonderfully flawed character and the author does a great job of taking us through her life and struggles. Rake is too wonderful, really. He's emotionally unavailable because he was hurt previously, but otherwise he is pretty damn perfect. That was really the only flaw in the book, for me. We don't really find out much about Rake and his motivations until we're about 2/3 of the way through.

This was a lovely book and I still remember many of the details weeks later.

Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake by Mazey Eddings is a fun and quirky read. I loved the relationship between Lizzie and Rake. He truly got her and understood her quirks. I'm not a fan of the whole surprise pregnancy trope but it worked well here. A different kind of read but overall a solid B+.

Seriously loved this book! I devoured it in a day. As someone diagnosed as an adult with ADD I found so many things I could relate to in Lizzie.

I and many others hate the pregnancy trope. It’s just weird to me😂 BUT I didn’t mind it AS much in this book because Mazey is so good at writing. There were just a few things just made me feel eh about it. It did take me a few times to get through it once it took the time I really did like it. I think Lizzy is hilarious and her and Rakes relationship was so great. Even though I wish some parts would’ve sat better with me this was a crazy whip lashing ride that I’m glad to have read. Thank you NetGalley for letting me read/listen to this book in exchange for an honest review!

Absolutely loved this book! As soon as I read her first book A Brush with Love, I knew she was going to be a auto buy author for me. This book had me laughing out loud and swooning at the same time!

Mazey has my heart forever <3 I'd be the first in line to admit that accidental pregnancy is actually my least favorite trope. I would've even gone so far as to say I hated it. But I guess I didn't dislike it as much as I thought because the moment I heard Mazey was writing an accidental pregnancy, LIZZIE BLAKE'S BEST MISTAKE became one of my most anticipated reads of 2022. And it did not disappoint! I ADORED Lizzie and Rake - their meeting, their chemistry, the amount of love that they had for each other. It's by no means easy to drop everything for a baby that you didn't plan for and with someone you're not even together with, but Rake did it. It's definitely not easy to have a stranger's baby and decide to raise it on your own, but Lizzie did it (until of course, Rafe came). These two very different people, coming together to raise a child. Obviously hijinks ensue but even more than the laughs (which were great!), I fell in love, again, with their love. Mazey has a way of writing romance that feels like a punch to the gut. It makes even the most cynical believe in love and this idea that somewhere out there, whether they are halfway across the world or in the same department at school, your special person awaits.

I don't personally have ADHD but it's clear that Mazey wrote Lizzie's experiences with care. Mental illness is too often stigmatized and those who have it are too often believed to be incapable of love. Mazey gives a big middle finger to the haters and shows that EVERYONE is deserving of love. And that having a mental illness does not make someone less than. There is power in romance and this is just one of the many ways she shows it. I am so, so excited for Mazey's upcoming releases! I have a feeling THE PLUS ONE will be my favorite (if I were forced to choose).... Special thanks to SMP for the advanced copy!

I was a little hesitant to read this after not fully loving A Brush with Love, but I am SOO glad I gave this book a chance. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Lizzie is so hard not to love. She made me laugh and feel each emotion while dealing with neurodiversity. While the romance aspect of it was cheesy, I wish we would've seen a little more at the end of the book. I enjoyed the topics of dealing with ADHD and other people's perceptions of it. It was a unique storyline that I had never seen anywhere else. And while I don't normally love the surprise pregnancy trope, I think it added to the story here. Overall, this was a fun, delightful read that I would recommend to others!

Lizzie is emotionally unavailable, disorganized, outgoing, compares herself to the “Rogue” in historical romances.

Rake (see what the author did there? har..har..ehem..) is also emotionally unavailable, an over thinker, kind, quiet.

So, we have two seemingly emotionally unavailable characters who get pregnant after hooking up twice and decide to move in together to “platonically” raise this baby.

Reading the acknowledgments, it’s obvious how much care the author put into the ADHD representation in this book. Even though I don’t have ADHD, I did appreciate reading about the way it impacts Lizzie’s daily life. That was probably the most interesting and heartwarming part of this book.

I like a hot emotionally-stunted hero and a struggling heroine (who is trying) as much as the next person, but I wasn’t charmed by this book.

We have the eventful first meeting. We have the lust. We have the (kind of) cute getting to know each other. We have the character growth. Formula is there; The boxes are checked off. But the love? I’m not swooning. I’m not convinced that someone will uproot their whole life so suddenly for someone they don’t really know. And I’m a romantic libra at heart.

Suffice to say this love story wasn’t memorable to me, and that’s okay; It’ll work as a whirlwind romance for many people.

Absolutely sweet and heartfelt!!! Now that the summer is coming to an end, I would definitely recommend picking up this book. The romance was beautifully flushed out throughout the book and the development of the characters was on point! You cannot help but get attached to them and root for the main characters until the very end. Such a quick and comforting read for any romance book reader!
