This was my favorite title in this series! Lizzie is both hilarious and lovable and Rake sees the best of her.

Minor spoiler/trope: this book has the pregnancy trope, but the author does such a great job with it that I didn’t mind it at all (and even found it super cute!).

Lizzie is a wild, fun loving girl with ADHD who has been put down her entire life for being so “messy.” When being stood up by a guy off Bumble at a bar one night, Lizzie meets Rake, a super hot Australian guy in the city for a business trip. Lizzie and Rake immediately hit it off and Rake steps away to say goodbye to his coworkers so he can spend time with Lizzie. When Rake walks away, Lizzie’s Bumble date arrives drunk with a friend and they begin harassing her. Lizzie holds her own and punches the guy in the face, and Rake comes to the rescue just as the guy’s drunk friend starts coming at her. Rake stays with Lizzie and ensures she’s okay, and the two go back to his hotel room. After some super spicy scenes, Lizzie goes home, forgetting her work keys in Rake’s hotel room. She comes back to retrieve them and more spice ensues!

Two weeks later, after Rake has returned home to Australia, Lizzie realizes her period is late and takes about a million pregnancy tests and goes to a clinic to confirm it: she’s pregnant. Lizzie decides that she is going go keep the baby. She works up the courage to tell Rake, and he is adamant about discussing in person how they can coparent together and be in the baby’s life. Rake uproots his life to live with Lizzie and coparent “platonically.” But how long will that really last?

I really loved this book (and the little update on Harper and Dan from A Brush with Love!!). I think I liked this book even more than the first one. Lizzie and Rake are both flawed but they go together so well. A must read!

I found the start of this book to be not to my taste and I was convinced I would have to DNF it but because it was from Netgalley, I wanted to at least give it a fighting chance. By the time I got about 10% in,, everything settled down and I was fully absorbed in the story and no longer wanting to put it down. Also it helped that this featured some of my favorite tropes with a neurodivergent heroine, an accidental pregnancy, and MCs who were total opposites (buttoned up, unemotional hero and impulsive, messy heroine) Needless to say, once I got past that rough start, I loved the book and I loved Lizzie and Rake, two people who by rights should never have been paired together, yet who somehow fit each other perfectly and were exactly what each of them needed.

It's obvious that the author has ADHD. She describes it so well and made Lizzie and her struggles to get along in a neurotypical world completely relatable. This is exactly what's needed in romance, real characters who have real life challenges, yet manage to muddle through and find plenty of joy. TBH, I wish I would have DNFd this one. I definitely wasn’t the target audience for this book and because of that it colored my entire reading experience.

I’m not a big fan of the unexpected pregnancy trope, it just doesn’t work for me, and had I realized that was the catalyst for this story I wouldn’t have picked it up. Add in the romance that felt like it was only lust driven and I just had the hardest time believing the romance… which is a shame because it’s a romance book- that’s the plot.

I know this story will hit home for many, and that’s amazing! It just want that way for me personally and that’s okay!

I was so excited to see another book by Mazey Eddings that I rushed to request without reading anything of what it was about. This was my bad - I don’t love pregnancy stories so this wasn’t the right read for me. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the advance reading copy.

While I’m not typically a fan of “insta-love” it kinda worked in this situation and I loved all the quirky one liners that just made the writing pop. There’s a lot of steam which leads to an accidental pregnancy so be prepared for that going in.
Lizzy is too much: she feels too much, forgets too much, says too much, and deals with her ADHD any having way too many hookups. She meets Rake, an Aussie straight out of a Julia Quinn novel one night and they end up having a one night stand. Which they both know is all it is because they both have baggage that means they’re not looking for more. Unfortunately for them, Lizzie’s too much personality means that she’s too scattered to check the expiration date on the condoms they use and she gets pregnant. Can two people who don’t want to be in relationships make this challenge work and be good parents? Are there more feelings to their hookups than just that?
It’s definitely an unconventional love story and the authors sensitive approach to mental illness made this one I won’t soon forget.

This book is so special to me. Lizzie looses her job and goes out and has a two night stand and she gets pregnant.. I absolutely loved this charecter and book and everything in it.

This is one of those books I wish I could give six stars, because it’s so excellent that I want people to understand this isn’t just another five star read. It’s one of my top five of the year so far, and it’s going to stick with me for a long time.

Lizzie is a firecracker, a whirlwind, a tornado of energy and scattered thoughts. She has ADHD, and her life just doesn’t seem to work the way other peoples so. So when she gets pregnant because of an expired condom after a hot two night stand, she has a lot of choices in front of her. Rake moves to Philly from Australia, uprooting his life to be a part of their child’s life, and these two strangers with an ocean of chemistry get to figure out how to make a platonic life together and we get to watch.

Highlights:
I felt every feeling zinging around in this gem of a book right alongside Lizzie and Rake. Every small hurt, every soothing touch, every zing of attraction and flutter of tenderness. The highest form of fiction for me is having a chance to utterly embody another person, and it felt totally effortless to slip inside these dummies as they figure out how to love each other and open up enough to accept love (the far scarier thing). Just such a transportive joy to read.

I have something so opposite of an ADHD brain that I feel honored to see insight into something so different from my loved experience in Lizzie. She tries so hard, and seeing how her different brain has kept her pigeonholed into meaningless flings and skipping around jobs, living untethered rather than risk being known and rejected. She lives so brightly that it almost hurts to look at her, and Rake, being an emotionally constipated baby often gets it wrong. But she doesn’t always see him clearly either. They both have some adjusting to do, but the fondness and love they develop so organically through the story is exquisite.

I really love the surprise baby trope, and this one was top notch. It really allowed for a breadth of emotion and ultimately such joy to shine through, that I just kept grinning while I was reading. Truly a triumph. It’s even better than the first book in the series, which is saying something. I cannot wait to see what’s next from Mazey.

I wanted to love this book. I really, really did. I didn't care for the characters and after that the book was a struggle. Based on the synopsis and the authors previous book, I had high hope for this one.

Love, love, loved this one! Lizzy Blake’s Best Mistake is such a fun story! Not only were the characters relatable, but the story had so much humor and heart. The desire to be loved and accepted just as you are truly shines through in Lizzie and Rake’s relationship. Also, this was a small moment, but I must highlight the line where Lizzy says Rake’s name was like something from a Julia Quinn novel. It felt like a shout-out to historical romance readers, and I loved it! Mazey Eddings did an excellent job with her sophomore novel, and I can’t wait to see what else she has in store for us.

I'll be honest, I wasn't sure that I wanted to read this nor was I sure I'd like it; book 1 in this series was a bit of a downer, and while I enjoyed it, I wasn't sure if I was ready for that again. However, I an assure you that this book was so much fun! Yes, it deals with real issues for adults with ADHD, but Lizzie is so vibrant that it makes reading this so much fun. Also, Rake is a lovely dude and where can I find one for myself?

I feel hard for A Brush with Love when I read it in 2021, but I fell even more head over heals for Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake. Lizzie is not your typical heroine. She is a straight up mess. But she is so charming and likable that you can't help but love her and feel bad for her at the same time. People just don't understand her or how her brain works and they don't take the time to find out. They just call her flakey and that's the end of it. But Rake...Rake is different. He expects Lizzie for who she is and that's that. But man were Lizzie and Rake were so good together! For all their differences they were a great match. It was like they were waiting for each other to make them more complete. What started as a random one night stand becomes something else entirely. And the title is not wrong, all of it is the best "mistake" Lizzie could ever make. Definitely add to your TBR! And if you haven't read A Brush with Love, pick that one up too and preorder Mazey's next release, The Plus One.

I’ve never related to a book as much as I did with this one. Not only is the ADHD rep great, but all the characters are extremely well developed, with great arcs and everyone can relate to some aspect of them.

Rake is the ULTIMATE book boyfriend. He’s caring, kind and he’ll do anything for Lizzie.

This book is like a ray of sunshine plus some ✨spice✨. It’s cozy, it’s easy and fast to read and it will definitely leave you wanting more (PRAYING that Mazey writes a sequel).

This is a 5+ star read, and I won’t be surprised if it turns out to be the book everyone is talking about.

This was my second book by Mazey Eddings this year (I’m impressed with how quickly she published two books!) and she is officially an auto-buy author. I adore her writing. I was nervous going in, because I don’t typically enjoy surprise baby, but this story was done so well!

As someone who has ADHD and is married to a person with ADHD, I deeply understood Lizzie’s struggles. And this book also gave me space to reflect on my own reactions and how I view ADHD. I loved the perspective of it being a positive and something to embrace, rather than focusing on the challenges and the messiness. A huge thank you to Mazey for writing this diagnosis in such a beautiful way.

Lizzie as a character is the star of this book. She was messy and real and so strong. She never gave up and she was so full of zest. I want to be her best friend. And it made my heart happy that she had a love interest who appreciated her quirks and her energy. Rafe might be one of the best book boyfriends ever. Yes, I said it. He somehow always knew what Lizzie needed and it was incredible. They had great chemistry and were perfect together.

I switched between ebook and audiobook and adored the narrators of the audio. In particular, I thought Summer Morton did a fabulous job narrating Lizzie’s point of view.

I adored Eddings's debut novel earlier this year and was really excited to get into this follow-up novel, this time featuring chaos queen Lizzie Blake. Not gonna lie, I wasn't sure if this was going to be a five star book in the beginning. Lizzie is ... well, she's a lot. For good reason, though. With her ADHD, her brain goes a mile a minute, and that is perfectly okay. It's just, myself being a highly organized and methodical individual, I stressed the hell out LOL But getting Rake's POV in there helped me settle. The way he observes her and loves the little tidbits that come out of her mouth—there was something kind of magical about it and their dynamic. And it's also great that these two could not have been cuter.

This romance does have a little bit of a far-fetched air to it. Like, Lizzie gets pregnant after a two-night-stand (which means you get saucy scenes within the first twenty pages), and when she tells Rake the news, he decides within a minute that he's moving from Australia to Philly. That was a little eyebrow raising, but the execution was actually really well done. The two of them are almost complete opposites. He is more like me, the order to Lizzie's chaos. I loved watching them navigate this situation, trying to be platonic while definitely being into the other, on top of getting to know each other before the baby comes. Their quiet heart-to-heart moments did so much for their character development and showed how sweet their relationship with each other will be, especially with how accepting Rake is of Lizzie in a way she's never felt before. They were truly some of my favourite scenes.

I normally don't like romances with pregnancy as a core piece, especially the unexpected one, but I was pleasantly surprised by this. Mainly because it didn't feel like a core-piece? Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of baby talk and buying and appointments and all that, but it never took centre stage. It got Rake and Lizzie together, but I liked how they grew as a couple more so on their own. Lizzie being pregnant didn't seem to influence that, and it was almost a relief. And the story itself only carries across the first half of her pregnancy.

As with her debut, I love the author's inclusion of neurodivergent rep. Like I mentioned, Lizzie has ADHD, and it has defined her for a lot of people in her life. Her friends have accepted her for her beautiful brain exactly how it is, but her family has seen her more as a burden that can be fixed if she just tries hard enough. Which was really quite sad. However, I love how the author discusses the difficulties, the constant doubts, and how Lizzie works to manage it. I liked the explanation of how the exactness of baking works to keep her focused and happy versus hobbies that fall to the wayside after a few weeks of obsession.

The acknowledgements at the end say this book made the author happy during the pandemic and honestly, I felt that. This book really is a right ray of sunshine and I'm so glad I got the chance to read it.

Full of feel good moments including a focus on thriving with mental health, Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake is a cute rom com that follows strangers to friends to lovers and the cutest ending.

Oh I loved this book!!! It had such great ADHD representation and I just thought it was so cute. I think Mazey Eddings creates such sweet and relatable characters and am excited to see what she writes next.

I enjoyed this more than A Brush with Love. Rake and Lizzie were just a fantastic couple and I loved the fact that Lizzie designed NSFW pastries. I found myself laughing crying and just overall smiling all throughout this book

The second book in Mazey's series centers on Lizzie and Rake. I really love Mazey's writing and love that she is focused on providing mental health and neurodivergent protagonists. This book is no-different. Lizzie the man character has ADHD and it was such a grounded representation.

Although I typically stay clear of "pregnancy" romances, I knew I needed to read this book! Lizzie and Rake are two protagonists that you can't help but root for. Lizzie is vibrant, loving and honest. Because she was told growing up that she was a handful and "too much", Lizzie does look for lasting relationships. Instead, she avoids intimacy and has one night stands. But that all changes when she mets Rake at a bar. Drawn to his Aussie accent and his chivalry, Lizzie sees him as another one-night stand. But one night turns into two and even though both feel a connection, Lizzie thinks they'll never see each other again. But their two-night stand changes both of their lives for ever when Lizzie finds out she's pregnant! Can these two figure out to navigate this unexpected twist of fate?

If you're looking for a slow-burn, this isn't exactly it. The book starts off hot, right away. But you'll love the emotional journey between Lizzie and Rake.

This unconventional romance will have you laughing and crying. It's smart, funny. messy and unapologetically emotional. Mazey has such a wonderful approach to portraying mental health and neurodivergency. I can't wait to read the final book in this series!

Lizzie Blake is an explosion of chaotic fun. It was such a fun quick read and full of real life messiness. Lizzie’s struggle with managing her ADHD, not feeling like her life is together yet, and having a major incident happen to force her to refocus felt very real. The book was full of humor as well, I laughed, cried, and everything in between! Rake was a sweet focused character, very much Lizzie’s opposite but also they’re exactly what the other needed.
Mazey Eddings brings these characters to life and makes them feel very tangible. It was pure joy to read and I cannot wait to read more of Mazey’s books!
