I thoroughly enjoyed Mazey Eddings’ “A Brush With Love”, so I just had to read her follow up, and I’m so glad I did. “Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake” is a heartfelt story of two people who were supposed to never see each other again only to end up never stop thinking about each other.

This was a romcom that pulled at my heart strings and this is coming from someone who rarely reads surprise pregnancy storylines. However, Mazey’s writing was able to keep me hooked. I was swept away at how the MCs, though very opposite at first, developed and grew and kept their sexual chemistry throughout the book. Rake turned out to be the perfect one-night-stand-turned-dad: he’s gentle, thoughtful, protective, and just damn sexy y’all. Lizzie may have verbal vomit all the time (I can totally relate!), but she has a fiery spirit that lights Rake up; they are perfect for each other. I appreciated the ADHD representation through Lizzie as well. I was able to get a glimpse through Lizzie’s eyes how challenging it can be. I loved how Rake felt protective of her, as well as showing acceptance and unconditional love.

Thanks to Mazey Eddings, St Martin's Griffin, MacMillan Audio, and Netgalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

I laughed, I sighed. I swooned. I sweat during the epic steamy scenes. I gained a new understanding of people I love and how their minds work. I missed Philly (where we lived for a few years). I felt ALL THE FEELS.

LIZZIE BLAKE'S BEST MISTAKE had everything! A female lead I adored, laughed with, related to. A male lead who is real and sweet and sexy.

The truly beautiful and amazing thing about LIZZIE BLAKE'S BEST MISTAKE is that the author never pushes this story into the easy-answers trap. Life is complicated and complex and wonderful. Lizzie and Rafe are stumbling through a tricky situation. They het some parts disastrously wrong while doing other things correctly! I loved the honest, truthful, and realistic look at finding love while just trying to keep yourself together.

Lizzie is a new favorite character of mine! She's hilarious and passionate and finding her way. And Rafe is so swoony and sweet. These two characters are printed on my heart.

LIZZIE BLAKE'S BEST MISTAKE has wonderful ADHD representation and I loved getting a better understanding of the often-misunderstood and mislabeled challenges that come with that. Bravo!

Surprise Pregnancy is one of my least favorite tropes i romance, but LIZZIE BLAKE'S BEST MISTAKE won me over in every

√\PUB DAY REVIEW // LIZZIE BLAKE’S BEST MISTAKE

4.5/5
2/5

“If yellow was a sound, he thought, it would be her laugh. Bright and booming, warming and joyful. Different varieties ranging from sun beams and lemon zest to the soft puffs of golden wattle.”

Lizzie has made endless mistakes. Kitchen fires, pyramid schemes, bangs (the hair AND human variety) you name it, she’s done it - and made a gigantic mess of it too. One mistake she’s never made is letting anyone get closer to her than a single hookup. After losing another bakery job, she breaks her cardinal rule and has a two night stand that changes EVERYTHING.

Once burned, twice shy, Rake has given up on relationships….and feelings. Any form of intimacy for that matter. Yet, something about charming, chaotic Lizzie has him lowering his guard, while getting *somethin’* else UP

Then it is back to Australia, and far away from this girl who has Rake feeling allll the feels. But Lizzie tells him she’s got an unexpected bun in the oven, he’ll do whatever it takes to be a part of his child’s life…expect be emotionally vulnerable.

Through a series of mishaps that are totally “platonic”….Lizzie and Rake learn that even the biggest mistakes, can have the most beautiful consequences.

THIS BOOK YA’LL!!! OMG I DEVOURED IT IN 24 HOURS!!!

Lizzie is a bomb ass bitch!!! I love how real and authentic she is! Lizzie’s ADHD was spotlighted throughout this novel - and I absolutely LOVE how it was explained and how she navigated her life as a neurodiverse individual.

Also, can we please have a round of applause for the sex and body positivity representation in this one?!??!?! A woman should never be ashamed of her sex life - and I admired Lizzie’s outlook on sex and how she just DGAF about what people thought! PREACH IT SISTA!

And Rake?! Oh, sweet Australian Rake. He truly loved Lizzie for who she was. Flaws and all. And at the end of the day, love prevails and all Lizzie wanted was to feel accepted in a world where she feels different. And Rake is the most perfect cinnamon roll book boyfriend!

While, the pregnancy trope isn’t my favorite, I thought it was exceptionally written. This rom com did not focus on Lizzie’s pregnancy, it was about two people learning about each other, and navigating a new journey while being new parents.

Overall, this book was sweet, steamy, witty and hilarious!

Unexpected pregnancy is... not a trope for me, apparently. Really excited about this but just didn't work for me.

I absolutely fell in love with the characters in Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake. This book will have you laughing out loud, crying, cringing, and just falling in love with the perfect imperfections of Lizzie and Rake's relationship. I was hooked from the beginning and just got deeper in as I read. I finished this book in 1 day and had so much fun reading it. This is a book for anyone who has felt they weren't enough, were too much at times, and who wondered if they were capable of falling in love and having a long term relationship.

Lizzie is a baker and has had ADHD since she was a child. She grew up in a wealthy household with professional parents who were very serious and cared about what others thought way too much. Lizzie's parents focused on her brother who fit the mold more than Lizzie who was embarrassing to them. Her mother wanted her heavily medicated so that she wouldn't be so loud and lively. This relationship is cringeworthy and Lizzie has always wondered if she was enough when meeting new people.

Lizzie goes to a bar to meet a guy she met on a dating site online. He's an hour late and she's about to leave when Rake comes to the bar to order more drinks for him and his co-workers. Rake is Australian and is in town for his work. He's in marketing and has never been to Philadelphia before. Rake and Lizzie have an instant connection and they end up leaving the bar together after Lizzie's date shows up, insults her, and a fight breaks out. Lizzie runs out of the bar and Rake grabs her purse and runs after her. That's how it all starts. Will Lizzie trust Rake with all that she is.? Will Rake think Lizzie is too much or that she's just perfect? Rake has been hurt and is slow to trust someone again. Will Rake be able to open his heart again?

This book is like a warm hug for the soul. I flew through the book and would love a sequel with the same characters. For anyone who has ever struggled with ADHD or known someone with ADHD you will love Lizzie! The struggle is real to keep everything on schedule, on time, and organized but she is perfect with her zest for life and ability to love. Do yourself a favor and pick up this book on September 6. 2022. You can thank me later!
I'd like to thank Mazey Eddings for writing such a fantastic book and I look forward to reading more from her. I'd like to thank NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an advanced copy in exchange for a fair review. #NetGalley

Why does this book have to end 🥹🥹 I LOVED IT!!!! What a fun story of romance, neurodiversity, friendship, family (of lack thereof), boundaries, choices, & moving past others’ perceptions of you.

Every fine detail in this book is masterfully done, hilarious, & so stinking cute. I DON’T EVEN LIKE THIS TROPE!!!!! It’s just so well done.

And I laughed out loud so much. Seriously you would have thought I was listening to stand up comedy.

PS: this is on the steamy side for me so expect 🌶🔥 scenes a bit more often!

First and foremost, let me tell all the potential readers that this is a surprise pregnancy story. Some find this a deal breaker, but I implore you to give this modern take on the trope a chance. Eddings has encapsulated this trope in such a fresh and modern way, I can’t think of a better way to tell this type of story.

With that cat out of the bag, Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake continues the friendship saga with he characters we met in A Brush with Love about 2 years into the future. Lizzie Blake is still a haphazard victim of her ADHD trying to find a way to adult… when she meets an Australian business man at a bar and dives into a one night stand… that turns into a weekend fling. Lizzie is not one for relationships, her quirks always get in the way, so she is happy to say goodbye and see him fly across the world back home. Out of sight, out of mind… that is until her period is late!

Now, she is a modern girls and puts on her big girls panties and tells him! I know- shocking!! I absolutely loved that she doesn’t try to hide it from the father, while still giving options and letting him know her plans. Way to adult Lizzie! Not she even agrees to let him come back an d co-parent. Another adulting point! Obviously, for romance sake these two decide not to pursue the relationship, just the co-parenting and romantic roadblocks get in their way (I’m looking at you one bed!).

This story was a breath of fresh air and I absolutely love quirky Lizzie and the dreamy Aussi Rake! I think this is a must read.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from St. Martin’s Press through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I should start by saying that I am not a huge fan of the pregnancy trope. However, I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Why you may ask, here are the reasons

First of all, let me just say that this may have been the first book that did not rub the pregnancy trope to my face. Yes, Lizzie got pregnant. However, there is more to the story than just her pregnancy. You don't just see them navigating through life because of a pregnancy. Pregnancy was just a part of the story, not the whole plot.

Second of all, you see Rake being vulnerable and overcoming his fears, you see Lizzie growing into this powerful woman who can stand up for herself, both of which have nothing to do with pregnancy. Mazey Eddings really thought out a plot to ensure that character development between the characters happened which did not evolve around the pregnancy but rather themselves.

Rake and Lizzie's chemistry is just impeccable. You can feel the heat but also the sweetness between them. Which made me swoon.

Overall, this was an amazing read and I enjoyed it a lot.

Thank you Netgalley and St Martin's Griffin for the ARC!

AHH this book was pure cuteness! I did not want to put this book down - reading it just made me so happy. It was chaotic, sweet and at times had me laughing out loud. Is the story realistic? Not at all! Do the characters feel like people you could actually know? Also, No. Does this make the book any less enjoyable, in my opinion, definitely not. If anything, it makes the book better. I felt like it sent all the right messages, without being too serious. The characters were adorable, without being too perfect or too annoying. It was a breath of fresh air to read such a fun book.

I can’t wait to read more books from the author!

Thank you Netgalley for my advanced reader copy!

I definitely enjoyed this book this time around. While i enjoyed a brush with love, this book definitely captured me in a different way. This book does explore more of Lizzie and how she lives with her ADHD while unexpectedly finding love with Rake. The author did a good job with Lizzie’s family background as we learn more of her family and how it shapes to who she is as she is going through the motions of a major life change and two in her life. This book would be up your alley if you enjoy baking and the one night stand trope.

This was a fast read. It's a surprise pregnancy with a character that started off overwhelming but you quickly grow to like. There is an insta connection between the two mc's but geography and life forces them apart. However, just as quickly they are forced back together and watching them develop their insta connection into something long lasting was what made this a great read. There were so many troupes employed forced quarters, surprise pregnancy, insta love that made this a fun summer read.

There were a lot of LOL moments in this book. Lizzie & Rake have an undeniable chemistry. The author shows the challenges of ADHD & I liked how it was worked into the story. The book was entertaining. It left me feeling happy. I received an advance copy from NetGalley & am voluntarily leaving a review.

Lizzie Blake is many things: chaotic, funny, quirky, a baker and huge flirt. It is not surprise that she picks up this hot Australian, in town for business guy, Rake, and they have a flaming one night stand. That turns into a two-night stand…. That turns into a surprise pregnancy…. Which in turn turns into them being “platonic” co-parenting roomies.

This book covered many many things that i love: opposites attract, great representation of ADHD/neurodivergent, founds family!

There are some aspects that I did not quite like though:
- I think Rake And Lizzie had a lot of growing up to do individually.
- I could have done without all the mentions of Rake’s ex
- I wish we could have seen more of Lizzie in her workplace and her professional development… same with Rake tbh
- I think I needed to see more of Rake to understand him, more of who he was and break him a bit more. Make him open up. At times he just seemed like he was Lizzie’s rock but was not able to open up
- Rake needed to grovel more

On the other hand: Lizzie was AMAZING! And her growth to me was what made me keep reading. I was rooting for her and her success.

I do have to say that Mazey’s writting is superb and she is FUNNY — this couple was just not it for me.

CW: Mention of abortion & cheating (off page)

Thank you St Martin’s Press & #NetGalley for the arc :)

The book wasn't for me. The premise wasn't my typical thing but I gave it a try. Admittedly, took me some time to begin because I wasn't a fan of the writing style but I kept going because the author is highly praised for inclusiveness and romance. The story provides crucial perspective of a character with ADHD. I was cheering on Lizzie and adored the loved ones who surround her. What ended up losing me the unrealistic nature of the relationship and then certain circumstances that made me dislike the main dude. His reasoning wasn't great and it was difficult to cheer him on. I was content with Lizzie's resolution with her brother instead. I'm glad the couple found a happy ending but I wasn't entirely convinced.

Thank you so much Netgalley for the arc!

This was an adorable rom com about the mistakes in LIzzie Blake's life. I'm not going to summarize the story, since the blurb does that ! I will say though that I ADORE Lizzie!!!!!

After reading A Brush with Love earlier this year and LOVING it, I had super high hopes going into Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake. But I had nothing to worry about because this book was perfect!!

I laughed and cried and had such a fun time reading this book! I loved the ADHD rep, and seeing both Lizzie and Rake learn and grow!

Mazey Eddings is an up-and-coming all-time favorite author with their two published works getting 5 stars from me!! I'm so excited for whatever she publishes next!!

And with Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake even having one of my least favorite tropes (accidental pregnancy) and me still loving it!!! I think this author could sell me on anything!!

I couldn't recommend this more!

Lizzie and Rake’s weekend fling turns long term when Lizzie finds out she is pregnant. What could go wrong when two people who just met want to raise a baby together? I can answer with hilarious episodes! This book is between clean romance and full out steamy romance so be aware going in. A lot of romantic tension is present in the book and it comes out in very funny scenes. I loved the book because it was lighthearted and delightful to read. It took me away from everything else and made me laugh for a few hours. Excellent book!!!

As far as tropes go, accidental pregnancy is not one that I thought I would enjoy, but Mazey Eddings proved me wrong with Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake!

This book was wonderful. It was really funny at times and super steamy at others (I was honestly surprised by the steam after having read this author’s other book). Lizzie is such a funny and vibrant main character who had me laughing out loud a few times. Her struggles with adult ADHD felt very real and well represented. The author did a great job of showing how it is present in all aspects of her life. I also loved the main character, Rake, but I don’t feel like we got to see much of his backstory. At times he seemed a little too good to be true (though maybe I’m just jaded).

I can’t wait for the next book in this series and I hope we get to see even more of Lizzie’s friend group in that one.

Thank you to NetGalley & St. Martin’s Press for an advance copy.

“We aren’t a partnership in the traditional sense. Or the romantic sense. We probably don’t make any sense,” Lizzie said, dragging the pads of her fingers along the bridge of his nose. “But we’re in this together. And I’m glad you’re doing this with me.” 💙

I just finished reading my ARC of her upcoming release, Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake, and I don't think I'll ever stop obsessing over that book. LBBM is the 2nd book in the " A Brush With Love" series. I absolutely adored the first book, but LIZZIE BLAKE? Lizzie Blake absolutely destroyed and then fixed me all over again. I thought Dan and Harper were everything, but then Mazey Eddings gifted us with Lizzie and Rake. I love L&R to death. *insert Taylor Swift's RIP ME GIF here*

I have never read an accidental pregnancy romance before, because I thought I'd not enjoy them, but Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake changed my mind. (I don't think I'll ever read any other book from that trope tho, I trust Mazey with everything so I JUST HAD TO READ IT) I fell in love with Rake and Lizzie so fast - there's just something so ✨wonderful✨ about opposites-attract romances, you know? I wouldn't call this a grumpy-sunshine romance, as Rake was more of a shy person than a grumpy one ~ but my God. The dynamic between them!!! *absolute perfection* My heart absolutely melted while reading their conversations. The banter, the back and forths, the chemistry????? TOP NOTCH. The romance storyline was chaotic and lovely, and honestly, everything just felt like

Now, Lizzie. Lizzie. That breathtaking force of a woman. I know I am not the right person to talk about the ADHD rep in LBBM, but I just think it was so perfectly written. I have never read a book about a main character with ADHD (other than Percy Jackson), so I got to see a lot of things in a new light through Lizzie's characters. The author highlighted a lot of Lizzie's struggles in a realistic nature, with a lot of depth, instead of just talking about ADHD on a surface level. I felt like hugging Lizzie countless times because of everything that she went through - things she didn't deserve. She became so real to me. I think a lot of my bookworm friends with ADHD will love reading about Lizzie ~ I can't wait to see their reviews!

And then, Rake. MY GOD, RAKE. That man talks in ✨poetry✨. If I had a dollar for every time one of Rake's monologues made me melt, I would become so, so rich right now. I mean, just read this quote -
“I think about your brain constantly. It fascinates me to no end. I want to know every corner of it, learn the secret colors of your thoughts. I’d do anything for a map of it.”
Imagine seeing a live action remake of this exact sxene while the male MC talks to a person with ADHD. I would be bawling my eyes out (not that I didn't do that already while reading the book) Little moments like this between Lizzie and Rake made my heart feel so full omg. The way that they connected; the way that Rake understood Lizzie ~ the way that Lizzie found a home in Rake - made me feel a thousand emotions all at once.

The romance was so unconventional, yet so insightful and touching. I can't recommend this book enough. Also, the chapters after Lizzie's pregnancy announcement mention the size of the baby based on the no. of weeks - and they were written with so much humor!! You need to read Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake solely for those chapter beginners tbh.

Just go read Mazey Eddings' books okay? You're going to fall in love with my STEM Queen! The book community needs to show her more love!!

Thank you to Mazey Eddings, NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for allowing me to receive the ARC for Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake. I really enjoyed this book! It was fun and fairly lighthearted. I had heard of the author but I hadn't read any of her books before this. I read this book very quickly and had a great time reading it. The relationships were very fun, and it was fun to see the lead-up to Lizzie's "mistake." I just checked to make sure that this was public knowledge, but the premise of this book is that Lizzie accidentally becomes pregnant. It felt really relatable and the way that it happened made a lot of sense with Lizzie's personality and her way of dealing with things. Rake has the brilliant idea of being platonic co-parents, which... goes about as well as you would expect. I think that this is a fun read and I would recommend it to anyone that would like a fun accidental pregnancy romance! I am looking forward to reading more of Mazey Eddings books, and I will definitely read her previously published books!
