Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake by Mazey Eddings was incredibly refreshing and heartwarming. I laughed, I cried, I laughed some more.
I didn’t realize how much I needed to see a character like Lizzie. One that’s always been told she was too much and made to feel unloveable, when in reality she is just herself with her beautiful brain and entirely worthy of love. I loved how she learned to love herself and her journey of healing. I just don’t have enough kind words to express how much this book meant to me. It inspired some fun baking
Lizzie stumbles a lot in her life. She is a nice person, but doesn’t really have a filter. A hookup, with a hot Aussie guy leaves Lizzie pregamt. Now what does she do?
I didn’t really care for either of the main characters. Rake tried more than Lizzie, I thought. I felt Lizzie was self centered and more interested in her own problems than Rake’s feelings.
One set of parents is much more likable than the other.
The theme is how to handle change and a lot is thrown at the main characters.
Thank you so so much for an arc of Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake by Mazey Eddings.
I loved this book so much. This is the first book I’ve read that has had such excellent representation of ADHD for a female character. I do not have ADHD but I work with and know lots of people who do and Lizzie’s experiences are so reflective and so well described. The descriptions of RSD were also so good. I am so excited that people will hopefully be able to learn more after reading this book as well as enjoy a hilarious and well written romance. I loved it so much! Interactions between Lizzie and her parents were heartbreaking for me but I loved how her relationship with her brother developed through the novel. I loved how accepting Rake was and how he championed Lizzie.
I highly recommend this book!

MY THOUGHTS
I loved reading this book. Lizzie is thoroughly flawed yet so relatable and adorable. Loved all the minute things she focuses on to help her deal with her ADHD
Rake was the perfect calm to Lizzies storm. He stood up for Lizzie and no matter what never doubted her even 1%.
The accidental pregnancy troupe and one bed situation worked well in their story.
I love mental health representation in books as these issues are faced by so many that it offers them so much positivity and hope
Thank you Netgalley and St Martin's press for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
LOVE LOVE LOVE. I adored A Brush with Love and was so excited for this arc and it gave me all the feels! Devoured it in a day!
I typically am not a huge fan of the surprise pregnancy trope, but in this book, it just works! Lizzy is imperfectly perfect and will be so relatable for so many readers. It is not often that I connect so much with a characters feelings like I did when reading this book. And it has all the steamy scenes!
Lizzy's discovery of her fullest self as she faced her insecurities head on had me bawling and will leave me thinking about this book for a long time.
Mazey Eddings has absolutely cemented herself as an auto-buy author and I CANNOT WAIT for what she does next!
This book. This FREAKING book. I flew through this, the second book in Mazey Edding’s A Brush With Love series, in a day and loved every single moment. It was delightful, hilarious, and heartwarming, and by the time I reached the last page I already wanted to turn to the beginning to read it all over again.
Lizzie as a main character was so relatable to me. I loved her in A Brush With Love, and this book gives much greater insight into who she is as a person. There were so many moments of her internal dialogue that felt like things I have experienced in my own life, and as a result Lizzie Blake now owns a special place in my heart. She was also an incredibly fun character to read, and I loved seeing her come into her own and find her passion, while also healing from the pain of her past.
The relationship between Rake and Lizzie was undoubtedly the highlight of the book. Rake was a fantastic supporting character, and definitely became a new favorite book boyfriend of mine, and seeing the way he defends her in front of her family and friends made me fall in love with him even more. The banter and chemistry between the couple is off the charts, not to mention that Eddings has pulled off the incredible feat of writing a no burn romance (there is face sitting literally within the first fifty pages) that is also filled to the brim with angst and yearning. Watching the main characters face the scary and exciting things that come with being parents, while also learning to let each other past their walls in the process, was what made this story so special. I know the surprise baby trope is not the favorite of a lot of readers on social media, but this one was executed in such a beautiful way that I hope people will put aside their misgivings and give this book a chance, because it is one that needs to be read by everyone.
If you are looking for a wonderful and unique romance, with characters and relationships that are to die for, filled with witty banter and laugh out loud moments, then look no further than this book.
I really enjoyed Ms. Edding's A Brush with Love, so I was thrilled to learn that it was going to be a series. Lizzie Blake's Best Mistakes takes us on the adventures of Lizzie as she tries to find her way in a world that isn't quite ready for her or so she thinks. For some people Lizzie might think too much or be too much in general but she's generally ok with who she is. Until she meets Rake and has a bit of a weekend fling with him but then she finds out she's expecting. What she doesn't expect is Rake.
Except that Rake and Lizzie are exactly what the other one needs; it just takes them a little time to figure out.
Ms. Edding's does a fantastic job of developing characters who are neurodiverse and making you understand them a bit more than when you started the novel.
I can't wait for the next book in the series.
3.5 stars.
I really loved parts of this, but it somehow fell flat for me. The premise was so so promising. I like Rake and Lizzie’s banter. I think a big flaw for me was that I just didn’t like Lizzie very much. I liked the conversations around her ADHD, and the discussion of RSD actually opened my eyes to some things my daughter might possibly be feeling sometimes. Overall it was an easy and entertaining read, but not something I’ll remember well or rave about. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC to review!
I just couldn't get into this. I was having a really tough time in the beginning, and it was getting better the more I read, but I was just having such a hard time actually wanting to pick this up. And I don't know if it was a combination of me kinda-sorta slumping, or just struggling to enjoy this book in particular. Lizzie and Rake have immediate lust for each other, but I never felt like their relationship went beyond that - which is not a great foundation especially with a surprise pregnancy in the mix. There are plenty of quirky one liners and over dramatic characters if that's what your looking for in a quick, romance I think this will work for you.
After reading her debut novel, A Brush With Love, Mazey immediately became an auto-buy author for me. Her gift for articulating how her character’s neurodiversity affects them emotionally and physically, and how they navigate their day-to-day life, is immersive, informative, and imperative for destigmatizing these mental health issues. I LOVE the complex characters she creates, and the found family and partners who love and support them unconditionally. And her use of imagery to convey emotion is exquisite.
Lizzie Blake, who suffers from uncontrolled ADHD, is one of the most alive characters I’ve ever read. Her personality jumps off the page driven by the need for stimulation and impulsivity. My heart ached for her need to connect with people but feeling like she is too much for anything sustainable. So many times in this book, I wanted to give her the biggest hug.
Enter Rake. Their chemistry was instant and he exuded sweet and sexy vibes right off the bat. And I mean, let’s be honest, Rake is a unicorn of a man, but his backstory helped provide a believable context for his actions. The way he was there for Lizzie in every single way and was so in tune to her was beautiful.
I loved that this story was told in (third person) dual POV. I also loved how Lizzie’s 🌶 baking profession fit her personality so perfectly, was a productive outlet for her ADHD brain, and became a catalyst for positive change in her mental health and professional arc.
I highly recommend this book and Mazey’s first! They are truly special. I can’t wait for her next one featuring Lizzie’s bestie, Indira!
Thank you so much @smpromance for the digital ARC through @netgalley!!!
After giving A Brush With Love four stars, I jumped at the chance to request an arc for Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake by Mazey Eddings. This book is set in the same world as A Brush With Love and it is nice knowing the backstory for Harper and Dan, but you don't need to read ABWL before LBBM.

› Lizzie Blake loves Philadelphia. She's a talented baker and has ADHD which makes her struggle with organization skills, remembering important things or keeping track of time. She seeks sensory input, and stimulation and is impulsive. She also has Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria which is a part of having ADHD. "People who have RSD don’t handle rejection well. They get very upset if they think someone has shunned or criticized them, even if that’s not the case. Up to 99% of teens and adults with ADHD are more sensitive than usual to rejection. And nearly 1 in 3 say it's the hardest part of living with ADHD." (https://www.webmd.com/add-adhd/rejection-sensitive-dysphoria)
› My husband and son have ADHD and I'm an Educational Assistant. A neurodiverse person in a love story warms my heart to no end.
› Lizzie has an awesome roommate named Indira. They've been roommates forever and I love how Indira understands Lizzie and is incredibly patient. I suppose it helps that she's doing her psychiatric residency so she truly understands Lizzie's unique and creative brain.
› Lizzie is not very close with her brother, Ryan AKA "the golden child". Her parents always admired Ryan's successes while they made Lizzie feel horrible about herself.
› Lizzie has a strong sex drive, sticking with one-night stands because she has a fear of rejection. While waiting for her date at the bar she meets Rake. Tall with broad shoulders, and did I mention Australian?
› Rake is patient, loyal, and smart. He was burned in the past and has been single for two years so he figures he's probably due for a fling. The fling turns into more than a fling when Lizzie finds out she's pregnant. Rake and Lizzie get an apartment together, planning to have a non-romantic co-parenting relationship, however, the sexual chemistry makes that very difficult.
› Rake's response to Thu 36% into the story made me tear up. I love Rake so much. He has his flaws, but he accepts Lizzie and loves her not despite her ADHD but because of it. ♥
› In the acknowledgments Mazey Eddings shares that she has ADHD and autism and wanted to write a story about someone like her finding love.

• Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake is a sexy, fun read with an important narrative about neurodiversity, self-love, forgiveness, and mental health. It reminded me of The Sizzle Paradox by Lily Menon. I'm definitely looking forward to reading Eddings next book about Lizzie's roommate Indira which is coming in 2023.

“I want to hand over all my old memories because I only want to make new ones with you.”
This book was everything I wanted it to be and more.
Lizzie has made many mistakes, but she’s never made the mistake of letting someone get close to her. After losing another job due to her ADHD, she has a two-night affair with an Australian man named Rake who changes everything. He’s sworn off relationships, but something about Lizzie keeps drawing him back. When she tells him about her unexpected pregnancy, he decides to uproot his life to be part of his child’s life.
Lizzie is such a beautiful, relatable character who comes fully fleshed-out and truly unapologetic about who she is. Her ADHD is portrayed really well with a sensitivity to the subject that I thought was import. But the representation is just as important. We see how it affects her daily life, her relationships with her parents and brother, and her relationship with Rake. Everything feels realistic and not overblown, and I can’t imagine how special this book will be for people with ADHD who feel misunderstood.
The friend group was absolutely stellar. When Lizzie doubts herself, they’re right there to pick up the pieces and remind her what a beautiful person she is.
And Rake is truly top-tier book boyfriend material. He is there for Lizzie immediately when she tells him about the pregnancy and his support is unwavering. They have a lot they need to figure out, but his confidence in her is lovely and endearing, and it’s heartwarming to see how continually proud he is of her.

ARC BOOK REVIEW: Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake by Mazey Eddings
PUB DATE: September 6th, 2022
I want to first start off by saying thank you to Mazey Eddings, St. Martin’s Press, and Netgalley for giving me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Have you ever had a decision that you had to make and during the week you get different messages, whether it’s from books, people, concerts, or somewhere else? Well… this book, I tell you, solidified a big decision for me. Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake was absolutely the book I needed to read… and I hope it helps others with normalizing toxic family behavior and being able to stop the continuous emotional and psychological abuse.
Anyways, now to the review. In all honestly, I was not liking the book in the beginning; the characters were not my favourite and the storyline was bland….but boy was I wrong and the more I kept reading, the more I was pleasantly surprised. I absolutely ate this book up and loved everything about it. Once the storyline picked up and we learn more about the main characters, Lizzie and Rake, you can’t help but fall in love with them. The unexpected situation they are both thrust into and how they handled it will leave you in awe. Rake and Lizzie’s relationship is a bit of a messy and unusual one but it is one that will leave an indelible mark on your heart. Mazey did an excellent job at focusing on a neurodevelopment disorder which in Lizzie’s case resulted in some mental health issues involving friends and family.
I see Rake being the new book boyfriend everyone wants. This book will make you laugh, empathize and gain a deeper understanding of people who are seen as “different” by societal standards. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a new kind of love story that is as unique and as special as Lizzie.
Mazey has done it again!! I really loved this book from start to finish, especially the ADHD rep & found family. Lizzie & Rake’s relationship is precious and so well written.
Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake, is Mazey Eddings’ debut novel!
This one caught me by the cute cover alone. I did not realize that it was actually the second in a series (but I didn’t read the first), but it can be read as a stand alone.
I loved these characters. Lizzie was so likable, with her struggle with ADHD and trying to find her fit in life. Rake was a gem, trying to do the right thing even if it meant sacrifices for him.
Although not entirely believable, Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake was a heartwarming, friends to lovers RomCom with a surprise pregnancy. I adored Mazey’s writing and cannot wait to see what she writes next!
Thank you Netgalley and St Martin’s Griffin for this eARC to read and review.
You would be making ZERO mistakes if you decided to read Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake! Mazey Eddings really is an instant buy for me, and she did not disappoint with her sophomore novel (for which I had high hopes considering how much I loved her debut novel). After meeting Lizzie in A Brush With Love, I really couldn’t wait to see what types of shenanigans she would get into and who would be the lucky guy to get to love her. And let me tell you Rake is dreamy and swoony, and definitely values Lizzie for who she is, and just complements her perfectly!
This book had me in my feelings right at the dedication, and let’s talk about feeling seen and I hadn’t even gotten to page 1! I also loved how messy and authentic Lizzie was, and how her energy and true self just leapt off of the pages. I truly enjoyed how she lived her life to the fullest, how she wanted to, and with zero apologies/regrets. I could just go on for days about how much I love Lizzie and Rake, and how they go from being lovers to pseudo-friends/roommates to lovers and just how perfectly imperfect they are for each other. I also wish I would have counted the number of times I laughed out loud while reading this book, but just know it was quite a bit.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided to me through NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to Mazey Eddings and St. Martin’s Press for giving me the opportunity to read this book!
This was a good sequel to A Brush with Love. I really enjoyed the neurodiverse representation. Thank you for the eARC!
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martins Press for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
I wasn’t a fan of this one. I didn’t like the characters. I couldn’t connect with them. Felt very unrealistic and almost laughable
I loved A brush with love and I was so looking forward to read this new story by the new to me author, Mazey Eddings .
I loved this book so much.
I think I lived it so much because I could relate to Lizzie on so many levels even if everyone is different and some of the things her mind take a trip on aren’t even realistic, it actually makes sense to me.
I know it’s not a book to be read in a few quick hours because I wanted to devour it and actually take my time with each chapter and actions.
Rake is my favourite hero. He is so unexpected and understandable, and most of all, he wants to take the time and learn and get to know Lizzie as she is, with the good, the bad and the ugly true at times.
I think it’s a great story that many will enjoy as much as I had.
🆓📖Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy through NetGalley
Mazey Eddings nailed this one!
Lizzie has uncontrolled ADHD and being in her head is a whirlwind. I do not have ADHD so I can't speak to the accuracy (plus everyone is different) but being in her head felt so real. It's hard to imagine living your life that way, but I know many people do each day. Lizzie had so much growth throughout the book, which really showed at the end when dealing with her family.
I really liked Rake. The fact that he liked Lizzie for who she was, and not who she was expected to be. He didn't always understand her, especially at the beginning, but instead of looking for conformity he asked questions and figured out what she needed. Even though they didn't want to label themselves in a relationship they absolutely were in one, and it was a healthy one at that.
Highly recommend this nuero-diverse book, we need more books like this.
