I ADORED Edding's book titled A Brush With Love. I knew I HAD TO read Lizzie's story as soon as it was available.

It was phenomenal. Perhaps being a fellow member of the adult ADHD club helped me in the regard to liking it so much!

Lizzie was hilarious. The way her scattered brain works is on par with my own and I liked it.

Rake is swoonworthy! He is an Australian hunk who is visiting Philly for work.

A one night stand turns into a surprise baby. The surprise baby turns into such a great story!

If you want to dive into the head of someone with ADHD, and also someone with some prior relationship drama which manifests into current life, and a dollop of humor then this is for you!

I really love books that give space for all different experiences on the page, it’s great that it not only gives a chance for people to feel seen, but also for others to see life through a new lens. I will undoubtedly try any book Mazey Eddings writes, I love her writing style, wit and sincere efforts to not only give representation for neurodivergency, but also to give a true perspective of the highs and lows.

For me, the cover art for this book really matched our heroine Lizzie - bright, sunshine-y and colorful. Lizzie was a really interesting character, and I was really happy to see her finding new appreciation for herself (despite outside influences) along the way. I really love a ‘found’ family - so I also really enjoyed that and loved getting a glimpse of past characters from A Brush With Love. No spoilers, but I was so happy with Lizzie’s realization and outcome with her family along the way too.

I really appreciated the chance to read and learn about an experience of what ADHD and RSD can be like. Seeing both the highs and lows of what it can be like to deal with - the hyper-focus, drive, creativity and energy vs. (in Lizzie’s case) the struggle with time management / awareness, overwhelming feelings and reactions to, etc. It was like you could really feel some of the experience, the writing painted a vivid picture. As a reader, I felt that overwhelmed feeling and that at times chaotic feeling.

I will be the first to admit the unplanned pregnancy trope is not generally for me, but given the author, I knew I had to give it a try. While I still don’t love the trope, I did enjoy the writing and story. My wishes for this book are based around some preferences, in order to not spoil anything, I wished that the topic of abortion had been omitted - I did not care for the specific handling in this case. I also wished for a bit more to Rake - Lizzie was such a big presence and I felt we really knew her story and who she was, Rake I didn’t feel I ‘knew’ as well.

Overall, the writing was well done and I appreciated a glimpse into another perspective / experience. I look forward to reading more from the author in the future. Thank you yo NetGalley and St Martins Press for the chance to read an early copy!

I was given an arc by Netgalley for my honest and unbiased review.

Well, Mazey Eddings has done it again. Written a book that I relate to on a cellular level. The ADHD rep in this is flawless, and for ME to give a book with a surprise pregnancy trope (not a spoiler; it’s IN THE BLURB) 5 stars?! You know it’s good.

This one is spicier than A Brush with Love, and it’s super funny.

Thank you to Netgalley, St. Martin’s Griffin, and Mazey Eddings for the ARC!

Super enjoyable book with neurodivergent representation. Lizzie struggles with her ADHD, which impacts her relationships and career. Without giving too much away, I’ll just say that she works on herself and finds love in the process. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐬: accidental pregnancy, opposites attract

𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲: Lizzie has made endless mistakes. Kitchen fires, pyramid schemes, bangs (of the hair and human variety), you name it, she’s done it… and made a mess of it too. One mistake she’s never made is letting anyone get closer to her than a single hook-up. But after losing yet another bakery job due to her uncontrolled ADHD, she breaks her cardinal rule and has a two-night stand that changes everything.

Once burned, twice shy, Rake has given up on relationships. And feelings. And any form of intimacy for that matter. Yet something about charming, chaotic Lizzie has him lowering his guard. For two nights, that is. Then it’s back home to Australia and far away from the pesky feelings, Lizzie pulls from him. But when Lizzie tells him she’s got an unexpected bun in the oven, he’ll do whatever it takes to be a part of his child’s life… except be emotionally vulnerable, obviously. He’s never going to make that mistake again.

Through a series of mishaps, totally “platonic” single bed sharing, and an underground erotic baking scheme, Lizzie and Rake learn that even the biggest mistakes can have the most beautiful consequences.

𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰: I just want to say thank you so much to Mazey for writing a book with such an accurate ADHD representation. I have ADHD and have never related to a character as much as I did with Lizzie. You don’t see a lot of books where the adult protagonist has ADHD. If you do see a book where the main character has ADHD, it’s never really properly addressed or given a name. I love how intertwined the reality/struggles of having ADHD are with the plot and romance.

I genuinely love the characters. I loved Lizzie and her entire personality. She’s witty, chaotic, and so much fun to read about. Rake is also a great book boyfriend. He loves everything about her including her ADHD brain. He doesn’t ever try to change her or get annoyed with her which is soooo important for someone with ADHD. I loved this book and I highly recommend it!

“Lizzie splayed her palm across his chest, feeling the gentle rhythm of his breaths, the ticking of his pulse. She wanted to sink her fingers into it and grab his heart. Own it. Or take her own out and shove it next to his.”

“You’ll probably never fully grasp how wonderful it is to know a person like you exists.”

“Lizzie stepped closer, looking at the splotchy pink icing, trying to make out the words written in terrible cursive on the top. She realized it said Rake ♥s Lizzie, and she sucked in a breath. “It’s really ugly,” she said, tears pricking her eyes as she dragged her gaze up to him. “I love it.””

A bone-deep kind of happiness is what this book has gifted me.

The love I have for Lizzie is the kind that I haven’t felt so intensely for a character in a really really long time. Nothing I can write will do her justice.
My sweet darling Rake with his hurt and his hope. Trying to do what’s right and missing the mark every once in a while.
Indira, Thu, Harper and Dan being the literal best fucking friends in the world. I cannot with this group.

I really wish I had something substantive to say but the truth is I loved this book to the core of my being and I cried and laughed and cried some more and I want to read this book again already.

All the hugs, and talking under the bed, 6 attempts of banging it out of their systems, and getting caught masturbating in the shower…and then slipping because why leave him with any dignity.

MVP: Lizzie 💛

I LOVED this book. Mazey Eddings is an auto-read author for me now. Everything about Lizzie Blake just made me feel happy and seen. The ADHD rep is amazing. I am absolute trash by the surprise pregnancy trope in books, but even if I wasn’t, she did it so well in this. So don’t let that deter you. It was wonderful. I love Lizzie and Rake and I can’t wait to read Indiras book next!

A fun, heartfelt story. I loved following along with all of Lizzie's "mistakes," especially watching her relationship with Rake evolve. I thought Lizzie's character explained her ADHD in a really thoughtful and interesting way- I could see how she experienced things differently with her neurodivergent mind. Made me want to give Lizzie a big hug and say "hang in there" multiple times throughout the book. You too will find yourself laughing and smiling along with Lizzie as she finds herself with Rake.

What I appreciated about this story was Lizzie and her neurodiversity. The author did a wonderful job highlighting the highs and lows. She also has a remarkable wit to her writing. Sadly, I’m not a fan of the pregnancy trope and especially didn’t like the backstory for Rake. It put a bad taste in my mouth that someone would be vilified for having an abortion in 2022.

Typically not a big fan of pregnancy tropes, but I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked this story!! Eddings novel was sweet, fast paced and not to mention- Lizzie was amazing! Loved everything about her character. Well done!

I went into Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake with zero expectations and thoroughly enjoyed it! The book was fast paced and enjoyable, and had me smiling on almost every page. While the accidental pregnancy trope can be overdone and poorly received by readers, I thought it was very well-executed. Lizzie and Rake’s chemistry was great, and I loved reading how to pregnancy brought them together (even when they tried to avoid it). Overall a really great story and a quick and fun read!

Mazey Eddings' storytelling is only getting stronger and stronger! Lizzie Blake (the protagonist, and best friend of Harper from A BRUSH WITH LOVE) came off the page so richly! Her humor is gold. I felt her fears, her doubts and insecurities, and I felt her passion for life too. It's truly a testament to Mazey's writing that she was able to connect the reader so well with Lizzie. I'm also impressed with the thoughtfulness and care behind the ADHD rep. While I am neurotypical, I grew up around people with ADHD, and this book took me inside the mind of someone like Lizzie and others from my own life, creating an empathy I'm not sure I've ever experienced at this level. Rake, too, was such a lovable love interest. I appreciated the way Mazey teased out his backstory little by little, which gave him an air of mystery! Do not skip this book, y'all!

CW: emotional abuse by a parent

Lizzie Blake is out there living her life. Yes, she bounces from job to job. Yes, she is doing the Tinder scene. And, yes, she is totally unsure of what she's doing with her life long term. But, honestly, Lizzie is happy as long as she gets to be in a kitchen baking up her favorite treats.

Enter Rake, the hot Aussie with an accent that turns Lizzie's knees to jelly and a body that she wants to climb like a koala on a eucalyptus tree.

The two didn't plan to be more than a one night stand. But fate intervenes and, soon, Rake is moving to Philadelphia to be with Lizzie and their little bun in the oven.

As a massive fan of "A Brush with Love," I was so excited that Mazey Eddings was coming out with a new book! And not only a new book, but one from the POV of Harper's friend Lizzie. What I wasn't so thrilled about? The accidental baby trope. Not my thing at all. But, I thought I would give this a shot and I am so glad I did!

"Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake" is a hysterical, heartfelt, steamy romp. I found myself laughing and crying with Lizzie as she navigated life, relationships, and pregnancy. The ADHD representation was well done and was woven into the story in a way that it wasn't front and center, rather it gave the reader an idea of how an ADHD mind works.

I would highly recommend this book!

3.5 stars

So fun and cute! I loved how bubbly this book was, just like the main character Lizzie Blake!

I adored the ADHD representation in this book and how it was the forefront of the story and how it taught me so much about ADHD and how it affects those who have it and how they think. I've always enjoyed learning about things I'm not familiar with and this book did a wonderful job of doing that through the representation.

Also, I'm a total sucker for an Australian accent, so Rake was great! He was a great character that stood up for Lizzie and was so understanding in different situations, loved him!

My only downside to this book was the it just wasn't my kind of story. I'm not a fan of pregnancy tropes, and I just didn't vibe with the characters, but that's totally a me thing!

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the earc in return for an honest review.

Looking for a book to make you laugh out loud (and I mean who isn’t?) then look no farther.

Lizzie has never really fit the mold. Living with ADHD she’s always had a hard time being what the people around her need. To avoid getting hurt she gives herself the rule to never hook up with the same guy twice. When Lizzie meets Rake, their instant chemistry leads her to break that rule and have a TWO night stand which results in more than they expected.

•Laugh out loud funny!
•Not instant love but instant Lust
•ADHD representation
•Healthy dose of 🌶

I was laughing from the first few pages. Lizzie was a hilarious and messy character who I just adored. Rake is total book boyfriend material and the story definitely worked for me. It not everyone’s favourite trope but it was done so well that I throughly enjoyed this book!

Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake is available September 6, 2022.

I adore Lizzie Blake. She is determined, chaotic and loves fiercely. Her friend group is amazing. They overstep at times but are supportive, loyal and understanding.

I enjoyed the way the story shows the reality of a neurodiverse person and the struggles they face. For sure this is a different and messy love story with a lot of humor thrown in.

Trigger warnings for emotional abuse.

This book was so freakin good! Lizzie and Rake were thrown into a whirlwind romance, you could call it insta-love, but I loved their connection. I was shocked at how quick into the book things got steamy, but I loved every second of it! Their relationship was definitely unconventional, sometimes messy, but so so cute to see it blossom throughout the book. I also haven't read a book that dove so deep into ADHD as a real struggle for people, so the representation of that was really refreshing to see in Lizzie and her struggles. I had no idea this was part of a series (technically) and now I'm running to grab that one after how much I loved Mazey Eddings' style of writing!

THIS BOOK. LIZZIE. RAKE.

Lizzie is a baker who is not "successful" by society's standards, nor her family's. Rake is an Australian businessman in Philly for a work trip. They have a *spicy* first meeting, which turns into a few meetings while he is still in town. After he goes back home, Lizzie unexpectedly finds out she's pregnant. When confronted with the opportunity to co-parent and co-inhabit with his baby mama, Rake jumps on it. Yes, this had the unexpected pregnancy trope- HOWEVER! The pregnancy served more as a plot device to force proximity and provide a few obstacles to the relationship. And honestly, the characters themselves were so richly developed that I wasn't even bothered by my least favorite romance trope!

Lizzie is a wonderful character who happens to have ADHD which undoubtedly affects her life but doesn't define her. I was so invested in her journey and her success as well as her relationship with Rake and with her friends and family. Rake was so supportive from the very beginning of Lizzie herself, her decision to carry out the pregnancy, and her erotic pastry business. Their non-traditional way of handling the unexpected pregnancy made for a story that I could not put down.

I cried, I laughed, I LOVED. I am so incredibly happy that Mazey Eddings wrote this story for the ladies with ADHD out there who have struggled to see themselves in media without being the funny side character. As she says in the Acknowledgements, "Every brain is beautiful, and they all deserve love exactly as they are."

This is a one night stand that turns into an unexpected pregnancy and two strangers forced to live together and make a plan for co-parenting, all without falling for each other, easy right? This has forced proximity, ADHD rep, naughty baking, and pregnancy trope. The pregnancy comes up in the first 20% of the book and is part of the main plot so I found that it didn't bother me at all like some pregnancies that happen in the last 5% of a book and are the sole reason a couple gets back together. I cannot personally speak to the ADHD representation, but to me it was done well. It provided a glimpse into the mind of someone with ADHD and what one persons experience might be. There are family members of the character with ADHD that do not accept her so that could be trigger to someone, just be aware.

I loved this book I think Mazey Eddings may be a new favorite author for me. Her writing is great, makes me laugh, deals with some interesting social issues and I love the romances.

TW! I think this book is being written and published at a very interesting time. The book was written before Roe V Wade was overturned and is being published after the fact. There are two different instances where choice during a pregnancy is discussed. It is brief and in my opinion done well, but given the times of this being written/published I think it is worth mentioning.
