I'm sorry. I did not like the main character or the MMC at all. I DNF'd. Lizzie has ADHD, so she can be impulsive and emotional. I get that and that's not why I didn't like her. The reason I didn't care for her was that her ADHD expressed itself in the form of quirky props like a penis-shaped chapstick or World's Sexiest Grandpa mug. It just didn't seem genuine and instead seemed like quirky manic pixie. And it got to the point where it felt like every scene, every thought, every bit of dialogue was dedicated to showing these traits to the point where I didn't feel like I knew anything about her except that she had ADHD.
I also thought the MMC fell flat. He just didn't have much of a personality.
There were a lot of cliche jokes and dialogue too. Sometimes the side characters were laughing uncontrollably and I was just cringing.
Not for me.
I read and enjoyed the previous book in this world but didn’t know if I would like Lizzie. She’s a fun character and I appreciated the representation for those with ADHD. I personally don’t have it but my immediate family members do so I’ve seen what struggles they have had to overcome, This is a quick, sexy read involving an accidental pregnancy that forces our couple to evaluate what they really want their lives to be like after baby arrives. I enjoyed watching Lizzie find a job she loves while growing in to a relationship with her baby’s daddy. A good read if you enjoy romance. I’ll definitely check out the next book in this series following a group of college friends. Thank you to the author and publisher for an ARC of the book!
I absolutely adored this book. Perfect for fans of Sarah Hogle's "You Deserve Each Other." I think Nicholas' and Lizzie's moms could be best friends (in a bad way lol).
Lizzie is chaotic and wonderful and human. She is vulnerable and hilarious, and Rake brings out the absolute best in her. They are romance leads that truly complement each other and force each other out of their respective ruts.
<spoiler>I've seen some feedback that Rake's ex having had an abortion is negative rep, because it's the evil ex who had it, but I really didn't take it that way. It wasn't about her choice, but about her cheating and leaving Rake out of it. This book actually felt refreshingly pro-choice to me. Rake is clear that he would've supported his ex and Lizzie's decisions either way.</spoiler>
The banter, heat, and character development are all fantastic, and I can't wait to read more from this author.
I really enjoyed this story. It was refreshing. The main character Lizzie has ADHD. Throughout the book we get to experience how this affects her life. She meets Rake and becomes pregnant. We follow them as they navigate their changing lives. It's a very steamy book with a lot of descriptive scenes. It's also a very sweet story with strong, and likeable characters. There's humor and heart. They learn to stand up for themselves and each other. I would recommend this to anyone that likes books with the surprise pregnancy trope, neurodiverse characters, or a lot of spice.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
A sweet and sassy romance from Mazy Eddings. I enjoyed Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake and can't wait for more!
This book is a bright spot in my life. It makes me so happy! I cannot wait for everyone to be able to read it and love it as much as I do!
Lizzie is full of life. She is kind of a mess but it’s seemingly going okay?! Until she loses her job and goes out and ends up having a two night stand, which she NEVER does, with Rake. He’s from Australia so he’s only here on a trip with work and leaving tomorrow. Not to mention he’s very emotionally unavailable. But once he leaves everything is fine until Lizzie realizes she’s pregnant and then Rake quite literally moves mountains to make sure he’s fully involved, that’s when things get complicated.
I love Lizzie so much. She does everything with her whole heart, even if it doesn’t work out 100% you know she gave it her absolute best shot. She has ADHD and while she tries hard to manage it, it’s not an easy task. Her whole life she’s been told she’s too much. But for Rake, who wants nothing to do with a relationship or getting their emotions mixed up, there’s something about Lizzie that makes his heart sing. The way he was fully invested right from the start made me so happy. Meeting Lizzie changed him and while it took him a while to fully understand, he was in and wasn’t going to let her go.
They both have a lot of deep rooted issues. Lizzie’s parents never gave her room to grow or manage her ADHD in a way that really worked for her, they just wanted her to fit into their idea of a perfect little family. So she’s convinced herself that no one will find her lovable because it’s too difficult. Rake was wronged in his last relationship and never wanted to be back in that position again. So he turned it all off, even though growing up and even now his parents show an amazing amount of love and affection. They are such opposites, but it works in the absolute best way. Rake listens to Lizzie, he wants to know what she’s thinking, how her brain works. And no one has ever done that for her.
Lizzie’s friends show up again in the book. I LOVED seeing Dan and Harper again. Dan was an unsung hero. He was cheering Lizzie on when she needed it the most! Again, I can’t wait to see the rest of their stories played out in the next books!
Thank you so much to NetGalley and St Martin’s Press for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you @netgalley @stmartinspress and @mazeyeddings for my copy of this eARC in exchange of my honest review.
Lizzie Blake is always messing up. Her ADHD doesn’t seem to allow anything different. But one thing she’s always managed to succeed at is hookups. That is, until a sexy Australian catches her eye. Rake has her changing her one night stand rule to a two night stand, and she’s not upset about it in the least. Except that a few weeks later she realizes she’s pregnant - and Rake is willing to uproot his entire life to be there for the baby. Will they be able to platonically coparent? Or will their attraction turn into so much more?
I loved this book. It was witty and charming and everything good. I was instantly able to relate to Lizzie’s feeling like she’s never enough. And her and Rake’s bond is so organic that it’s easy to fall in love along with them.
This one gets 4⭐️‘s from me!
I loved Mazey Eddings' first book, and so I was thrilled to receive the ARC of Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake to review. In this story, we follow Lizzie and Rake, brought together randomly in a bar, and after spending one night together are linked together indefinitely. I appreciated the representation of ADHD in Lizzie's character, and I also loved that this story had lighthearted moments that at times made me laugh out loud but had heavier moments, as well. The growth we got to see in both of the main characters was satisfying. Thanks so much to Netgalley and St. Martin's Griffin for the copy to review.
Lizzie is a sexaholic. She stumbles through life sustained by her addiction to sex, specifically one night stands. The vibrancy of the one night stands offsets her other troubles in life such as losing yet another bakery job. All of her life is a reaction to her ADHD. But then one particular one night stand turns into two, and the rest of the story leads from there. While the beginning of the book focuses on her sexual exploits (almost too much), it sets the stage for the rest of the plot. And it is the story telling around that plot that will capture the reader. As the book title says, it's Lizzie's Best Mistake.
Everything about this book was a crisp, clear, sunshiny breath of fresh air! Lizzie and Rake were so sweet, I was rooting for them from the first time they met. I loved the honesty shown in the details of life with ADHD and grieving relationships that didn’t give you want you need.
Well… I liked this significantly less than Edding’s previous book, A Brush with Love. I had a feeling I should skip this one because unexpected pregnancy just isn’t a trope I enjoy but I proceeded ahead anyways. Whoops! I just could not connect and I didn’t buy into this romance at all. It didn’t feel natural or organic and I wasn’t invested. Despite hooking up and getting pregnant at the beginning of the book, this was a looong slow burn as the couple decides to platonically co-parent but still cohabit together during Lizzie’s pregnancy. At first I was like helloooo sexual tension, but I got pretty tired of the situation fast. Rake did not feel like a believable character and Lizzie annoyed me to no end. I also hated the overuse of expressions that made no sense and that is just lazy writing to me. I must say though, as a person with ADHD, her condition is well-written. I also really liked Lizzie putting her foot down and saying no to having toxic family members in her life. Strong female friendships was another great aspect in this book, much like the first book. While this isn’t a book I’ll be rushing to recommend, it’s worth checking out if you, unlike me, like an unexpected pregnancy trope.
This is such a cute book!! Lizzie’s personality is incredible, and I love everything about her relationship with Rake. From their first meeting, to their bathroom shenanigans, and my absolute favorite, when Rake meets Lizzie’s friends for the first time. The bakery where Lizzie works is both genius and hilarious, and I loved the scene where Lizzie learns about it for the first time. The writing was incredible, and I really hope that we’ll get another book (hopefully with Indira’s story) and get more Lizzie, Rake, and Evie.
This book is NOT a mistake!!! And for me, it was helpful...I'll admit early on I was very frustrated with Lizzie. And then Ms. Eddings through her writing invited me to really see her. I have a greater appreciation for those with ADHD. By the end, I was rooting for her big time!! The relationship between Lizzie and Rake is honest and authentic. Thank you for this story.
What a treat to read this neurodiverse story. Lizzie has ADHD, and we get to see inside her mind and the challenges it creates in executive functioning and the day to day. And she meets Rake, our sexy Australian protagonist. And I don’t want to spoil anything, so I’ll just say that their banter is delightful, their story pulls you in, and they have quite a few delicious naughty scenes. I lived in Philly for a couple years and it was fun to see parts of the city come to life — I’d love to go to Lizzie’s bakery in real life, yum! Beyond the romance, this book is also about self acceptance, which is so important for neurodiverse and neurotypical alike. One of my favorite lines: “My life is too full to try and make room for someone that doesn’t want to be there.”
This book in 3 words: Comical. Diverse. Marvelous.
Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake is a messy and unique love story that checks all the right boxes and keeps the reader coming back, chapter after chapter. The writing is strong and almost puts you in a trance with the pacing and delivery. I just adore how Mazey Eddings puts a book together.
While both main characters are likeable and interesting....RAKE. I LOVED RAKE. Adding another book boyfriend to the list.
I love how different Lizzie was compared to typical female MCs in this genre. And to make it even more complex, rich, and wonderful, Lizzie is neurodiverse and it's delivered in a way that anyone can get a glimpse of what that's like. I loved how Mazey wrote descriptions of some ADHD aspects - vivid, honest, and relatable. The neurodiversitiy in this book is outstanding and it fills my heart with such joy to see characters like this hit shelves.
This story was such an enjoyable but substantial treat. I definitely recommend. I received an early copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
This was my first book that I have read by Mazzey Eddings, and I definitely enjoyed it. When I first started this book, I was like.. wow this is a spicy book. I am all about some spice, but was worried there would not be as much of a story line. Thankfully, I loved the storyline.
.
Lizzie has ADHD and has struggled all of her life with people telling her she is "too much". When a one night stand ends up with Lizzie pregnant, her world is thrown upside down. Her baby daddy lives in Australia, and ended up coming over to be a partner in this child's life, a "platonic" partner. With Lizzie's job, family and friends all adding stress into her life, it is awesome how she stays so positive. Lizzie was such an vibrant character, that made you smile and also feel her warmth. Rake, the sexy Australian, made you wish you had this book on audio so you could listen to his voice 😂.

Good book for sure! Add it to your TBR! It is coming out in September !!!! It is a must read! While it was pretty predictable, I really enjoyed it.
Unconventional but I loved it! Very different with great writing. The characters are are fun and the author does a great job of helping the reader get to know them. Its a hot story but also sweet.
Wonderful rom com. A delightful mix of passion and humor and a terrific love story between two people stumbling through life and learning to open their hearts
I have to say that I’m ecstatic to finally be seeing neurodiverse MCs in mainstream novels - and it makes my heart burst knowing it’s an #ownvoices work of art. I can’t even begin to explain how incredible it is for me to read MCs that I can actually, truly relate to and see myself in. So HUGE SHOUT OUT to Mazey Eddings for writing these books that help us neurodiverse women feel seen and give us hope that we will all be taken seriously in our professions someday…and not judged simply by our status as neurodiverse.
Now on to the book itself. 5 BIG BRIGHT STARS for this laugh out loud gem. It gave me all the feels. I laughed (hard at times), I cried (in sadness & in anger at times when the raw truth about how some people treat others just because their brain works differently), I cheered, and I swooned.
MC Lizzie lives with ADHD and has struggled with accepting that she deserves to be loved just as she is - due mainly to her parents making her feel “less than” throughout her life. This part of the storyline broke my heart and sparked the fires of rage inside me - and also made me ever more grateful that my parents loved me wholeheartedly and never criticized my autistic traits.
This is an unexpected pregnancy story with a redeeming love arc that is a slow and highly erotic burn. I absolutely adored Rake, despite his own emotional issues. I also really loved that this is not a story with a perfect male character that swoops in to save the day…no this male MC is flawed and imperfect, but so very lovable too.
Favorite takeaway quote from this one: “Just because your brain works differently from neurotypicals, it doesn’t mean you deserve to be valued any less. It doesn’t mean your love is a burden or a liability.” 🙌. EXACTLY!!!
THANK YOU in spades to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the e-arc in exchange for my honest opinions.
Lizzie is used to making mistakes in her life. She can't hold down a job and has a difficult time adulting in general. When a one night stand with a sexy Australian named Rake turns into two, she's ready to leave him behind despite their strong chemistry. But an unexpected pregnancy forces them back together and they have to figure out how to coparent this baby even though they're practically strangers. As they get to know each other, they fall for each other more and more but vow to keep things platonic so they don't complicate their situation. They won't be able to ignore their fiery chemistry and attraction for another for long.
Lizzie was one of the most fun characters that I have read. She was vibrant, loud, exuberant, and HILARIOUS! I laughed out loud nearly every time she spoke. She was kooky and weird and I loved that about her. Her struggles with constantly messing things up and trying to manage her executive functioning challenges is relatable for many people. Lizzie felt a lot of pressure to be "normal" or "perfect" and when she fell short, she liked to act like judgment from others didn't affect her but it did.
Rake loved Lizzie for all the reasons why Lizzie thought she wasn't lovable. He didn't see those characteristics as flaws but as things to celebrate and appreciate. I loved that Rake did not hesitate to jump into being involved with the baby. He had a good heart and embraced this new situation with excitement and fervor. It made me sad that he needed this so badly, considering how he had been burned in the past and was holding everyone at bay.
Lizzie and Rake's chemistry is electric and hot from the moment they meet. They had a familiar way of interacting even though they had just met. Their sex scenes were passionate, steamy, and really fun. And when they were trying to be platonic friends - I wanted to combust with the electricity and tension between them.
This book was pure joy! Mazey Eddings did an excellent job of writing a story with wickedly smart dialogue that made me laugh. I enjoyed A Brush with Love and this newest book completely surpassed and smashed my expectations. I loved everything about this book and I wouldn't change anything about it. This book was a fantastically fun experience and it was highly entertaining. I was sad when it ended because I wanted more of Lizzie and Rake.
Steam level: 🔥🔥🔥½
⚠️: mention of infidelity (not between the main characters) & death of a loved one
