Thank you Netgalley and the Publisher for my ARC in exchange for my honest review. This was super cute!!
I had listened to the audio book of A Brush With Love and had enjoyed it. So when I saw there was a new story with a character from the book I got excited. I actually enjoyed this story a bit more then the first book. I think its because I really liked the character of Lizzie, who is so passionate about everything. She has some struggles in the book, having ADHD (which was portrayed so well by Mazey Eddings), but its woven in as part of her journey toward love and self fulfillment. You also can't go wrong with a story of two people suddenly stuck together and committed to being platonic (...which we know won't last). Overall a great, fun story.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I really enjoyed this book, the fact that Lizzie has ADHD and was written in a way that everything was relatable was a plus to me. I just adored every second of this book. But be warned there is food porn in the book, so have snacks ready to go.
I've never been a huge fan of books that involve insta-attraction, but this one really was a cute read. The fact that Lizzie had ADHD also added another layer to the book that made me appreciate it so much more. It took me a while to get into the story, but as it progressed, I found myself gradually falling in love with Lizzie and Rake <3
A nice, fast read for me. Loved the character, Lizzie! I thought the story was sweet and cute. Read the book in a day I loved the story that much!! Five stars!
Oh my gosh this book felt like a vacation. I was so drawn into the characters and their lives. Although this book was too spicy for me, they joy I felt outweighed that.
Lizzy is a perfect main character. I love how Mazey deals with mental illness in her books, this one specifically focused on ADHD. I felt like I understand what those who have this go through now and I got to see how Lizzy managed it better throughout the book. Rake is so perfect. He works hard, actually understands Lizzy, and makes me melt. I need him in real life. And I honestly loved Mary; she’s such an awesome sister in law.
I can’t even tell you how much you need to read this book, just read it. There are so many beautiful quotes I couldn’t even list them all.
An absolute masterpiece.
Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of this book.
4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Don’t let the cover fool you on this one. This is NOT a “cheesy Hallmark” type novel. Not that I’m knocking Hallmark, because I absolutely LOVE those books and movies…I actually thought this would fall into that category when I chose to read it, but it did not. It was a complete laugh out loud, feel good, make you smile…FUN read!!! To be very honest, at first I didn’t think I was going to really like it because Lizzie was getting on my nerves big time. If I don’t like the main character from the start it can totally ruin a book for me…BUT I’m so glad I kept going because my feelings for Lizzie took a complete 180 turn when she found out she was pregnant. She was quirky and sometimes still annoying with her ADHD, but she was so fun to read. She had such a big heart and behind all her wackiness, she was a really kind and good person who was just afraid to fall in love. As for Rake, her big, hot Australian mate….LOVE LOVE LOVED him from beginning to end!!!! This is a great book if you’re just in the mood for something light and fun! There is A LOT…and I mean A LOT of sex in this one….hence why I said it’s definitely not “Hallmarky”. Most of it was written good (some funny parts at times), but there were also a few parts that were kind of cringy…but when an author is writing about sex THAT much, I can see where it can start to sound like a bit much. I guess the author just wanted us to know that Lizzie and Rake REALLY, REALLY, REALLY enjoyed each other’s company! 😂
Overall, I have to say that I really liked this book and highly recommend picking up a copy - pub date is 9/6/22. This is the first book I’ve read by Mazey Eddings but will definitely not be my last. Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press Griffin for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

While it was rather cute, it lacked enthusiasm.
Throughout her life Lizzie has been told she is too much: feels too much, talks too much, expresses too much - withering her ability to maintain long-term relationships and relying on hookups to take a break from her chaotic mind.
Rake, a handsome Australian, is the picture of prim and proper, emotionally unavailable, and avoids the baggage he carries from his past.
After meeting in a bar and having a two-night stand, they find themselves shocked with the news of a baby in the making. Can they team up and coparent for the sake of their child? Or will their issues make them fall and crumble?
This story was alright. While there was nothing wrong in the author's writing per se, the plot was missing the most important factor: demonstrating the reader why they should care about these characters.
Sure, they were endearing in a messy way, but quite forgettable. Lizzie and Rake had moments where they were full fleshed adults, yet I could not find myself interested in them. The author also provided a series of domestic, vulnerable moments that while sweet, never caught my attention.
I recommend this to those who feel like they do not fit in but keep trying.
When it comes to men, Lizzie Blake has a strict “no relationships- just one night stand” policy, because you can’t get attached or catch feelings if you only have one-nighters... right?
Then Lizzie meets a hunky Aussie that changes up the rules...and gets her knocked up in the process.
With a bluntness and much honesty that rivals nearly no one, Lizzie is unapologetically herself with almost everyone, besides her family. Her mother doesn't understand her, her brother is just recently trying to make an effort. She is in and out of jobs so quickly, family loses patience. Lizzie has the best intentions, but her ADHD often manages to get in the way, leading her to be labeled as a wild child and “too much” by her parents and older brother, Ryan.
It’s been a full 24 hours since I finished this book and I’m still buzzing and doing the happy dance. A steamy romantic comedy that continues in the world created by A Brush With Love, Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake is a delicious treat that you won’t be able to put down. Lizzie lives by her own rules and has made a life for herself – following her heart, doing what feels right to her, and not settling down or settling for anyone. While being ghosted at a bar, she runs into Australian dream boat Rake, who’s only in town for a few days and is totally wooed by Lizzie’s go-get-’em attitude. They’re both looking for fun and a one (turns to two) night stand is just what these two unattached single folks are looking for.
And then… whoospies. Lizzie tells Rake that she’s expecting the unexpected, and they both decide to co-parent together, with Rake uprooting his life from Sydney to move with Lizzie. Hilarity ensues with the forced proximity, only one bed, *suggestive* baked goods, flimsy plans to stay platonic… the TENSION. I was legitimately cackling throughout the entire book.
I can safely say that Mazey Edding’s books are both in my top 10 this year. She writes characters and stories that are relatable and aspirational, who live with mental illness and/or neurodiversity (Lizzie Blake lives with ADHD in this book), and are just so freaking good. I read this book in one day (I wish I would have slowed down and savored it… guess I’ll have to re-read!).
Thank you so much NetGalley & St. Martin’s Press for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Sweet book, great characters, easy to read. I really enjoyed a lot of aspects of this book. Lizzie was an incredibly interesting character. She was funny, and very different from other heroines in books I’ve read. Rake was sweet and I really enjoyed the way he began to evolve throughout the book. Their relationship was great, but I wish the book was a little longer. A couple areas were glossed over that should have been included. Overall good book.
This book was a sweet treat (no pun intended). After enjoying Mazey Eddings' debut novel, A Brush With Love, I jumped at the opportunity to read this one. I had high expectations going in because I had already fallen for Harper and Dan, but I definitely wasn't disappointed with Lizzie and Rake's romance. I daresay it's spicer than the last book?! You might need to pull out the fan for this one. Lizzie Blake has made it onto my favorite female characters list! It's so refreshing to read about neurodiverse characters, and Eddings is so talented in the way she writes their experiences. They give you a deeper understanding of mental health issues and how it can affect an individual’s daily life.
It's hard not love Lizzie Blake’s vibrant energy and I felt for her struggles and her overwhelming emotions in dealing with her ADHD. It's beautiful to read her character ARC and see what a strong support system and professional help can do. Rake was the perfect, dreamy counterpart, whose name I couldn't help but laugh at every time I read it. I loved reading their interactions and opposing personalities come together as they prepared for their little bundle of joy.
I am officially a Mazey Eddings’ superfan and I think she’s made it onto my “auto buy” list for sure. I can’t wait to get my hands on her third book: The Plus One!
After loving Mazey Eddings first book, I was thrilled to receive an ARC of Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake! This book did not disappoint, I enjoyed everything about this book. Mazey’s love of Philadelphia is so evident in her writing and storytelling. I love that the city is so well represented in her books! This is the first book I’ve read with such strong adult ADHD representation and I appreciated that point of view so much. I will absolutely be recommending this book to my friends and family! I can’t wait to purchase a physical copy on September 6th!
I LOVED Mazey Eddings's debut, A Brush With Love, so I was so happy to see this arc was open for reading!
Unfortunately, this sophomore novel doesn't hold up.
I am now keenly aware that I do not like the accidental pregnancy trope. It was my fault for not reading the copy and just going off of what I knew of the author's work, but the pregnancy plotline threw me for a loop! I can see now why it's not a well-loved trope. I suppose in some books it could work, but here, it felt like a plot device rather than an actual growing point for the characters.
First, I didn't get a clear sense of why Lizzie wanted to keep the baby so badly. It didn't make sense to me and therefore I couldn't take the whole rest of the book very seriously. Second, I didn't like Rake. I mean, he was okay. But compared to Dan, the LI from ABWL, Rake was so flat. His motivations were bizarre. *SPOILER* Literally moving around the world because a random hook-up got pregnant because you have some unresolved trauma with your last gf getting pregnant? I just didn't buy it. He was not as well developed or as deep as I would have liked.
I did like Lizzie as a character. Eddings writes funny, rich characters (which is why Rake was so disappointing to me). I just thought the same outcome could have been achieved some other way without the pregnancy. Really, this felt like a book about pregnancy/impending motherhood written by someone who isn't a mother/parent.
I'd still read future books by Eddings, this just wasn't for me.
While this book was sweet and the main character and her struggle with ADHD resonated with me, I just am not a fan of “women being pregnant” type tropes. The book itself was fine. I recommend it for anyone looking for a cute romance about getting knocked up from a one night stand. However, it just wasn’t for me.
BRIEF SYNOPSIS: Lizzie has a reputation for messing things up. To keep her messy self from becoming anyone else’s problem she sticks to a strict rule of only one-night stands. But when she meets Rake, a hot Australian in town for just a couple of days, the one-night stand turns into two-nights. Rake’s given up on relationships, even meaningless flings, but Lizzie catches him off guard. It’s just a couple of nights, what’s the harm? When Lizzie discovers there’s an unexpected bun in the oven, Rake is determined to be there for her 100%. The two decide they can do this whole platonic co-parenting thing and move in together during Lizzie’s pregnancy. And they’ll both discover that sometimes mistakes have beautiful consequences.
I really did not expect to love this book as much as I did. And the characters! I was so drawn to Lizzie. The book mentions multiple times how her character draws people in and that’s exactly what she did. Lizzie has ADHD and I thought Eddings did an outstanding job helping the reader understand Lizzie and what was going on in her brain. One part that resonated me is when Lizzie’s boss calls her lazy and she thinks that she’s not lazy because she has the desire to work hard and do well and succeed, she just struggles because her brain has trouble with focusing. And I thought that was such great insight into what a person with ADHD must feel like. It’s not that Lizzie didn’t want to do things well, it was just harder for her and I loved watching her figure out ways to take ownership of her ADHD instead of letting it own her.
And Rake. Oh what a wonderful one he was. I loved that he adored Lizzie for exactly who she was and met her exactly where she was. And vice versa. Rake had some baggage and Lizzie was so patient with him. I loved watching the dynamic of the two of them.
Once again I found another romance read where I felt like the problems or “drama” were dealt with upfront and in a logical way. I didn’t feel like there was unnecessary drawn out plot just to create drama or tension.
I think this book is outstanding and I highly recommend. I loved it so Much I am probably going to buy a hardcopy of it. It was Fantastic!
Humor, romance, and self-love vibrate in this book. The characters are vibrant and well developed. The romance and spice builds a pressure throughout, with breaks of wrestling with very real issues. It was refreshing to read a romance that touched on neurodiversity, ableism, and family trauma. Finally, a romance set in the real world, with real, diverse people. Love to see it!
🤰🏻 Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake 🤰🏻
“For anyone who’s been told they’re too loud. Too emotional. Too much. You are the perfect amount of enough.”
This book was a beautiful exploration of someone being loved exactly as they are, no changes necessary. Constantly having been told she’s a mess, she’s made mistakes, she’s failed, Lizzie feels like a victim in a neurotypical world where she experiences everything through the lens of her ADHD. She is desperately trying to not be “too much”, when she meets Rake for a whirlwind weekend that results in an oops of a coparenting journey. As they try to navigate the new waters, while also getting to know one another, they also start to better know themselves.

Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC! Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake is on shelves September 6th!
This is my mistake for not reading the summary before requesting this one. I am really not a fan of the unexpected pregnancy trope but if that doesn’t bother you, pick this up! It’s a cute, fun read! Also, Loved seeing some ADHD rep !
I loved this book so much! Mazey Eddings has yet to fail me; her romcoms are always a perfect combination of humor, drama, and love. I'm obsessed with the fact that Rake didn't hesitate to drop everything and move to another country to co-parent with his one night stand. I love Lizzie and her very chaotic brain. I'll absolutely be shouting about this book on socials whenever I have the chance.
