Speaking of mistakes, I made the big mistake of not reading the summary before I started reading. I am not a fan of the unexpected pregnancy trope, and it is clearly outlined in the summary - still, I was not expecting it. 🤦🏻♀️ Parts of the plot were hard for me to get through, but it had nothing to do with the writing.
I really enjoyed Rake + Lizzie together and how their relationship evolved throughout the novel. The adult ADHD rep in the main character was also very well done + eye opening. The banter + laughs throughout were perfect.
This is a sweet story & overall I’d recommend it if you aren’t bothered by the pregnancy trope. Moral of the story: read summaries. 😊
“Your brain was built different and that’s beautiful, never a burden.”
Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake ☀️
➖release date: September 6th
➖rating: 5/5 ⭐️’s
➖spice level: 3/5 🌶’s
Having to wait until September to get a physical copy of this book is going to be absolute torture, because wow, wow, wow!! Easily my favorite read of the year so far!!
“Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake” feels like both sunshine and the most beautiful chaos and it’s truly just a love letter to anyone who’s ever felt unlovable simply because of who they are. I feel so very seen and safe in this book and I would love nothing more than to stay in the comfort of Lizzie & Rake forever. 💗
what you’ll find in LBBM:
➖a hot Australian hero 🐨🥵
➖one night stand ⮕ accidental pregnancy
➖spectacular ADHD rep!! 🧠
➖close proximity
➖erotic baked goods 🧁
➖”let’s just do it once to get it out of our systems”
Lizzie is so unapologetically herself, while Rake is achingly sweet and supportive, so although the “accidental pregnancy” trope isn’t always my favorite, with these two it just works exceptionally well! Lizzie & Rake are both so much more than you initially see on the surface and I loved how easily and naturally they cared for each other, despite what they’ve both gone through in the past.
This book is fun and endearing and will make you feel so many wonderful things and I just can’t recommend it enough! Lizzie reminded me a lot of Hazel from Josh & Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren, so if you enjoyed that book then I’d absolutely check this one out!
Thank you soso much to @netgalley and @smpromance for providing me with an arc in exchange for an honest review!
I love Lizzie. What a breath of fresh air. I normally don't love books involving pregnancy, but this was totally different. I stayed up late to finish it, because I just loved this so much.
There was so much I loved about this book. I loved the spotlight on women being sexual. I don’t feel like I see enough representation of women just wanting casual sex, so this was a treat.
There is a lot of focus on mental health, therapy, and neurodiversity and I thought this was a really vulnerable read. Great banter, great spice, and I just loved Lizzie and Rake together.

Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake follows the title character Lizzie as her two-night stand with a sexy Australian (Rake) turns into a little more than they bargained for. Lizzie is a loveable and high energy FMC who is neurodivergent which was a huge draw for me. This book also includes pregnancy trope, one bed, & erotic baking.
This is my first Mazey Eddings book so I had very little idea about her writing style. I was pleasantly surprised by the 🌶️ and how early we got it. And while the spice in this story was great I only wish there was more 😏. The story was fun and the characters likable - as a reader I wanted to be a part of their friend quartet.
Lizzie was easy to root for and exciting to read her POV chapters. She has dealt with many people misunderstanding her and how her mind works. This is so relatable for all of us, the desire to be loved for your whole self and not what you can do for others.
The story was a little predictable, but when going into any rom com the reader has an idea where it's headed. I enjoyed the flirty banter and slice of life scenes. Wish there was more of the actual pregnancy 🤰 discussed (more doctors visits, symptoms mentioned, baby planning) because I think it could have added to showing Lizzie & Rake's relationship progress.
Overall this was a fun read and I look forward to reading Mazey's other books.
I received an eARC from NetGalley & St. Martin's Press for my honest review.
Love this book with the fiery protagonist and understated love interest!! Super interesting and definitely recommend!!
In the much-anticipated sequel to Mazey's debut I laughed, I cried, and I absolutely loved this book! Lizzie and Rake burrowed into a corner of my heart and I will keep them there forever. Lizzie thought she felt too much. Luckily, Rake was there to believe in her and share that she is never too much. I loved how Lizzie's life with ADHD was celebrated not put down in any way (other than by her horrible parents, but that's here nor there).
Let's not forget the tropes... one bed, accidental pregnancy, and the hero has an accent. *swoon*
Please, go get this book! You won't be disappointed.
*ARC courtesy of the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. I want to express a thank you to the valued author, the publisher who took a chance on the author, and Netgalley for providing a copy.*
I LOVED this book. So many of my favorite tropes - accidental pregnancy, forced proximity, found family, only one bed!!!!
Lizzie is a flurry of chaos, kindness and loyalty who I want to be best friends with and Rake is a sweet, protective person I would always want to have my back.
The emotional growth and journey for these two made me laugh and cry *a little* but I loved every second of it. I would read 1000 pages of their mundane daily tasks just to keep them in my head a little longer. A new comfort read for me for sure.
Mazey has become an auto buy author for me and cannot wait for the rest of the series. Her neurodivergent representation is amazing and has helped me feel seen and appreciated through both of her books. Thank you NetGalley for offering an early review of this book.
Well that was a fun time!
I might be one of the few people who read this book having not yet read A Brush with Love, so all the characters in this book were new to me. And while there was insta-lust in the beginning (as it is part of the story), I really enjoyed getting to know Lizzie and Rake more and watching them learn more about each other as well - and this also helped with the unrealistic idea that two people who had a two night stand are suddenly in love.
Lizzie, who has ADHD, has never allowed herself to fully enter a relationship because she believed herself to be a burden on others. Rake hasn't allowed himself to open up to anyone after a brutal relationship experience in his past. Together they grow to not only better understand each other, but themselves as well.
Read this book is you like:
- Hilarious, witty banter (mostly Lizzie)
- Australian accents
- An unconventional & messy romance
- STEAMY open door romance
This book was absolutely delightful! I loved how the author incorporated one of the most common diagnoses to live with, ADHD, and showed real life examples of the daily struggle!! The story line was a little far-fetched, but overall such a charming book.
I really liked this one! It was vvvv hot and steamy. And I learned so much about ADHD and the mind of someone with it. It was such a beautiful story about found family and career and not worrying about being traditionally "successful." Eddings is such a good writer AND a dentist?! I don't know how she does it.
This is the second book I 've read by Mazey Eddings. I found her first book a little slow and uninteresting at times.
Not the case with this book! She seems to have hound her groove! Her writing style seems to puts you in a calm mood. The characters are well defined and fully developed. You literally feel like you're there in these lives with the characters living it with them. The twists and turns kept me wanting to read more., wanting to know more. Lizzie is a very relatable character. A must read, especially for those who feel as though they are marching to a beat that's not matching anyone else's. Keep marching!
I went into this with low expectations as I didn't enjoy the author's debut but this was the total opposite. I loved Lizzie and Rake and their chemistry and I really loved to see some good ADHD rep - I can't believe I've never read a romance with ADHD rep before and I want them all now!
For the first 10% of this contemproary romance, I was not impressed. It didn't strike me as original or well written. The dialogue felt very juvenile between our hero and heroine and it just didn't compell me. The smut was top tier, but everything else was lacking.
However, the story quickly turned around into one of the most endearing romances I've read in recent years.
This is about a whirlwind of a one night stand that results in a surprise pregnancy and a move across the globe. I somehow didn't know that this had a pregnancy as a main story arc, and for that I'm thankful as it would've put me off. However, I cried, laughed, and felt hot and heavy. This book is the package deal.
Though I can't speak for the accuracy of the ADHD rep, I personally did find it informative and I learned about forms of it that I didn't have prior knowledge to.
I'm giving it a high 4 stars as, like I said earlier, the dialogue was juvenile at times and often reads as unrealistic. But ya know, if you can't appreciate some cheesy banter in a romance book, when can you?
This is my first Mazey Eddings book and unfortunately It was not for me.
Lizzie is a ball of sunshine and loved her sense of humor. Then we have Rake, he is a little bit awkward and supportive. These characters separately are good, but together not so much. Don’t get me wrong, it is the fact that when stories revolve around their relationship, their connection needs to feel genuine and deep to be believable, however this was not the case.
I really wanted to like it but I couldn’t believe their relationship, yes they had chemistry and tension but thats it, it didn’t go further than that.
CW: frank/graphic discussions of sex, unplanned pregnancy, toxic parent
I would like to thank NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for providing me with a free e-ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Lizzie Blake, an aspiring baker with ADHD, has been known for being a serial one-night stand person. However, after meeting Rake Thompson in a bar, she breaks that streak and ends up getting pregnant. Rake, an Australian native with his own baggage from a previous relationship, immediately moves to Philadelphia to navigate co-parenting alongside Lizzie.
I really enjoyed this book for a lot of reasons. Eddings provides an excellent storyline that will keep you sucked in and rooting for Lizzie and Rake to work out. Eddings also does a good job with pacing the story through the plot. I never felt like things were going too fast or too slow in this book. It felt just right and it was enough to get you turning the page.
This book provides positive neurodivergent representation, which is the thing I really love about Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake. Identifying as neurodivergent (I’m autistic), I really appreciated how neurodivergent people were portrayed in this book and that it was written by someone who is actually neurodivergent. You can tell throughout the book about what it’s like being neurodivergent in a neurotypical society and I really liked to see how neurodiverse characters can be successful. Additionally, I really liked how the other characters supported Lizzie and her ADHD. They never judged her and were patient with her as she advocates for herself. This made me feel seen (even though I don’t have ADHD) as there’s not a lot of books out there with neurodivergent MCs and they are shown to be loved as their true, authentic selves.
Also, I do want to point out that there are a lot of discussions of sex in this book and the sex scenes are a bit graphic. Personally, I thought that they were a bit too much at times. However, if you like the steaminess between love interests in books, this may be up your alley.
Other than that, this is definitely a book to read this fall. Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake is a fresh rom-com with neurodivergent representation and I can’t wait to hear more from this author.
This was a cute story despite the fact that this is not my favorite trope. Eddings pulled it off well and I ended up loving Lizzie and Rake's story. There was tons of chemistry and heart. Can't wait for more from Eddings.
I really need to start reading plot summaries because I didn't know this was an unplanned pregnancy story and I'm nottttt a fan of those
But it was a refreshing change to all the other romances I've read recently. This won't be for everybody, because there's kinda insta-love and gooey sweetness that may seem unrealistic, which is why you can't take this one too seriously
This is my first novel from Mazey Eddings! I didn't realize there was another book in the series but I didn't feel confused or thrown off whilst reading. I loved the dedication, “For anyone who’s been told they’re too loud. Too emotional. Too much. You are the perfect amount of enough.” Thank you NetGalley & the publisher for the ARC. I look forward to reading more!
This is a super cute story. I’ll admit as a type-A person. Lizzie as a character stressed me out a bit in the first parts of the book, but it was really enlightening to see how she worked and struggled and strived to find her niche and success. Rake is a great hero, if a bit too-good-to-be-true. I love any book with excellent gal pals and Lizzie’s crew really lives up to that, even with conflict that can pop up sometimes with old friends. Plus, who doesn’t love a quirky bakery owner as a side character?
