Lizzie Blake is one of the most unique and bright female MCs I've read about. I love how she embraces her quirky, weird side and doesn't care about the opinions of others (even with a rough childhood). Rake was an intriguing main character. I liked the fact that his love language was being supportive, even towards the end with the conflict. Speaking about the conflict, I thought it was unnecessary and predictable. This book could have been shorter, and still deliver its story. There were many parts that dragged for me and really didn't hold my attention for long before I got bored.
The unexpected pregnancy trope is usually a hit/miss for me, and unfortunately, it was a miss. I didn't feel the deep connection between Lizzie and Rake, and at times, it felt more like lust than love. I didn't particularly feel a connection to the characters either.
Still, I loved the friendship dynamic and the heartwarming epilogue.
We should always have more neurodiverse books because ADHD in this book was not romanticized and was told in a way that helped me understand it enough to differentiate between truth and stigma. I plan to read more about ADHD after this. I look forward to more books in this series.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for a copy in exchange for my honest review.
(Will post review on Instagram closer to the release date, but the review is available on Goodreads)

Love a book that is filled with romance, twists and true angst? Then you'll love this story!

The two main characters - each with their own fears of commitment and inability to connect on a romantic level with another person - find themselves at the right place at the right time. Starting out as just another fling, these two find themselves in a rather sticky situation when Lizzie finds out that she is pregnant. The man she had a weekend fling with is brought back into her in a way she never expected - a true partner. It's a great story of two people coming together over something unexpected and finding a true, happily ever after.

It is a raw and beautiful story that illustrates the reality of a neurodiverse person and their journey to unashamedly claiming their space in the world.

Lizzie is in her late-twenties and is always the life of a the party. She knows how to have a great time and has a friend group she would die for. While she feels deeply; one thing she wonโ€™t allow herself to do is fall in love. Having spent her entire childhood hearing how she was โ€œtoo muchโ€ and being taken from one psychiatrist to the next in an attempt to wrangle her personality and ADHD, sheโ€™s determined that burdening a romantic partner with her love is just not something sheโ€™s willing to do.

Just because Lizzie wonโ€™t allow herself to fall in love, doesnโ€™t mean she lives a lonely, romance-free life. In fact, she loves sex and the comfort physical closeness brings her. As far as sheโ€™s concerned, she will have no problem spending her life enjoying one-night stands with zero attachments.

Itโ€™s all going according to plan until she meets Rake โ€” a mysterious, sexy, emotionally unavailable (๐˜บ๐˜ฆ๐˜ต ๐˜ด๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ฑ๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ด๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ๐˜ญ๐˜บ ๐˜ธ๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ญ-๐˜ท๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ด๐˜ฆ๐˜ฅ ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ ๐˜๐˜ช๐˜ด๐˜ต๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ค๐˜ข๐˜ญ ๐˜™๐˜ฐ๐˜ฎ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ค๐˜ฆ) Australian that is visiting her city. These two fit together so well in this one night stand novel! I adore Lizzie and love how she overcomes her challenges in life. She has a one night stand with a handsome Aussie of a man and it was her best mistake yet. I thoroughly enjoy a story where I am cheering for both of the characters the entire story and this was it. They balance each other in the best of ways and their story made me smile the entire time. It's a a fun, steamy, low angst read that will have you flipping pages!

I was recently diagnosed with adult ADHD and this book spoke to my soul. I do not have it as severely as the main character, but the feelings surrounding rejection and the busy brain was described exactly how Iโ€™ve experienced. The author either has ADHD, knows someone intimately that does or did some outstanding research. What I love about this book is that it is not just an adorable romcom with a cute plot, but a book with a character that represents so many people in this world.
I got really attached to these characters. Lizzie is not just relatable, but hilarious. I love the development we get to see when she becomes more confident with her ADHD and starts to believe in herself. What makes a good book as well is that the side characters were interesting, even her new boss.
The plot wasnโ€™t very unique, but it had a lot of the popular tropes that I do enjoy reading.
The only part I struggled with is some of the sexual content was over the top. If a lot of talk about sexual activities and parts bothers you, you may want to stay away from this book.
Overall, Iโ€™d recommend it to certain audiences and Iโ€™m looking up the authors other book to read.

I loved this book! This book made me laugh and cry, and I very rarely cry at any book, TV show, or movie. I saw a lot of myself in Lizzie. Thank you Mazey Eddings for writing this book, because I saw a lot of myself in Lizzie, which in a world where weโ€™re often told to โ€œcalm downโ€ or act normal, this book made me feel like not being what society wants is okay.

What a charming, sweet and funny book. Both of the main characters are so easy to love, especially Lizzie, who leaps off the page with her energy, humor and vibrancy. I really enjoyed how her and Rakeโ€™s relationship evolved and how they helped each other move past their issues. I wish the pregnancy milestones had been featured a bit more, but other than that, I really, really liked this story and look forward to checking out more from the author.

I absolutely loved this book. In fact, I think I enjoyed this book even more than the first in the series, A Brush with Love. I am not usually a fan of the accidental pregnancy trope, but this book surpassed all of my expectations, and I am so glad I had. the opportunity to read it. The characters are amazing and well developed. Lizzie is so alive, she is wild and energetic and fun. She has the best personality, and you can't help but adore her character for being so unabashedly herself. I think Rake complemented her well. The romance Eddings delivers is wonderful. The relationship that blossoms between Lizzie and Rake is so lovely, and oh boy did I love their chemistry. I was rooting for them the entire time. I loved how supportive Rake was and how he recognized he had his own emotional struggles he needed to overcome. This book is a feel-good romance, but it's also a story of what it's like to live with ADHD and it does a really great job tackling deep topics like ADHD representation, self-love, and toxic family relationships. I found myself experiencing all the emotions while reading this book. From smiling and laughing to crying, this book tugged at my heartstrings and made me emotional in all of the best ways. This is a fun, heartwarming romance that I cannot recommend enough. I adore Mazey Eddings' writing, and I cannot wait to see what's next in this series.

witty, charming, and full of fun moments, lizzie blakeโ€™s best mistake is a winner!

lizzie brings energy with her everywhere she goes. when she meets emotionally unavailable rake, she figures whatโ€™s the worst one night can do. but rake gets her humor and treats her with the kindness and respect she always craved. a surprise pregnancy has both their lives flipping upside down and navigating their feelings for each other as well as lives as new coparents.

lizzie was such a relatable main character and all i could think of with rake was liam hemsworth! a great summer read for sure!! thanks net galley for the early access!

This was a great book! Beautiful at times and heartbreaking at others. It was a unique glimpse into the life of an adult with ADHD and how to view traits and personality from a different perspective. I love that she reunited with her brother despite not being able to mend the relationship with her parents.

I recently read A Brush with Love by Mazey Eddings so I was excited to start Lizzie Blakeโ€™s Best Mistake. Lizzie is a talented baker with ADHD who struggles to keep track of some things and often blames herself for these struggles. She meets an Australian, Rake, at a bar and their one-night stand becomes a two-night stand and then becomes something else entirely. You donโ€™t need to have read A Brush with Love but there is some crossover with Harper in Lizzieโ€™s book.

What I liked: I think Eddings did an excellent job of creating a character with ADHD and some of the struggles Lizzie encounters. I really liked how Rake was also able to advocate for and support Lizzie. I love when a man stands up for his woman. Eddings also brings the spice from early on and is able to keep it spicy throughout the book.

What could be better: I found that there was just a lot of conflict and arguing in the book and that just wasnโ€™t the vibe I needed at the time, unfortunately. I understand why the conflicts were important to the plot but it kinda dragged me down.

Overall, I think I would give this 3 out of 5 stars. However, I may revisit it later since I know what to expect now. If you are looking for a book with an accidental pregnancy, neurodivergent representation, and spice, this is absolutely the book for you.

Thanks to St. Martin's Griffin for the free book.
I absolutely adored Lizzie. She was such a fun character to get to know. There is so much depth within her. My favorite part of Edding's books are how she has a main character that is neurodivergent. Lizzie has ADHD, and this book made me understand my partner better. Tackling this topic and showing the differences in the way that those that have ADHD function was so well done. I also loved how Lizzie was, overall, surrounded by people who loved her and only wanted the best for her. Harper, Thu, and Indira are such great, honest friends to have.
I figured out through this book that I am not a surprise pregnancy trope fan. As someone who went through having a child in the recent years, I thought there needed to be so much more depth between Lizzie and Rake. Yes, there was LOTS and LOTS of physical attraction. But coparenting takes way more than physical attraction, and I wanted to see them work through the emotional attraction - and figuring out the whole 'we're having a baby' freak out more.
I loved Rake as well. He was just such a sweet man to Lizzie - the kind of person she needed.

Ok, this book ended up being MUCH "more" than I expected based on the first 10%. When the m.c. hit her first sex scene- decidedly NOT "fade to black"- at 8% in, I wondered if the whole book would be just one erotic encounter after another. Not that that would have necessarily bothered me! But generally I like more story with my sex. ;) I am very happy to say that this book offers so much more.

Reading the author's bio at the end, she notes she is determined to write love stories for "all brains", meaning neurotypical AND neurodiverse. And our m.c., Lizzie, is definitely a bit neurodiverse, in that she has ADHD and her brain is constantly firing at a different tempo than the majority of brains. As she has been made to feel bad about this her entire life, she now has many trauma responses, including one-night-stands with strangers she'll never see again, so she doesn't need to fail at another relationship. But when she tumbles into Rake's hotel bed, she finds herself actually having _fun_. And then things get a whole lot more complicated.

Lizzie's story is about loving ALL of yourself. Not just how to look, but how you think and how you react and the who of who you are. And how we are ALL valuable BECAUSE OF who we are and how we are, not just in spite of it. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, story, writing, and dialogue. The sex was not gratuitous, not always in-your-face, and often very, very FUN. I smiled and laughed, and I definitely choked up at times. I really loved Lizzie and Rake. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

What a blast this book was! From the beginning to the end I adored Lizzie and Rake and the family they ultimately end up building.

I just love how Mazey writes her characters. They all feel like such real and tangible people that at times I forget that Iโ€™m even reading about people who donโ€™t exist. Lizzieโ€™s internal battle with ADHD throughout the book was so heartwarming to read about. She goes from sort of letting it control her life to realizing maybe it is possible to still be her and also have a better handle on it. But also that sheโ€™s still her no matter what and she deserves love and respect. Seeing her come to this realization and stop letting people shove her into a box was beautiful!

The fact that Rake wholeheartedly falls for her even harder because of her quirks was so adorable. Any time we were in his head getting to see how he sees her, I loved it! Their chemistry was *chefs kiss*. Rake being an aquariusโ€ฆ Definitely checks out. I related to him so much throughout this book. He took awhile to really open up to her with words but the small things he did along the way to show his affection and seriousness for her!!! โ€œYou certainly remind me of home, Birdy.โ€ AHHHH.

Overall, this was just such a feel good book even during scenes that absolutely tore at my heart. If you like romance with a dash of accidental pregnancy, a sexy Australian and a beautiful chaotic baker who likes to bake titty cupcakesโ€” you need to get your hands on this book the second it is out!

I loved this rom-com! Lizzie is the best and my new hero! She overcomes so much and has has so many hardships, but she rocks. Loved!!

This was the cutest, funniest, light hearted romcom!!

Lizzie Blake seems to live a chaotic life. She's 27, lives with her bestie, and is a baker but has a difficult time keeping a job due to her uncontrolled ADHD. She's sort of been misunderstood her whole life, especially by her family. Her mother just wants to put her into a category as the embarrassment of a daughter who will never be successful. SAD RIGHT? Because of this, Lizzie has come up with a new way of living life that includes trying to stand clear of her mother and live as freely as possible. This includes copious amounts of hook-ups, specifically, once night stands. The one night stands allow her to keep anyone from getting too close.

Enter Rake. Yes, his name is literally Rake. The hot Australian Lizzie meets at a bar after she was stood up on a date. They immediately hit it off as Rake is attracted to Lizzie's lively energy. Rake is in town for work and they end up going back to his hotel room for a VERY FUN night. Lizzie, who is used to mediocre sexual interactions with random guys, is sort of shocked at the easiness she feels with Rake. The spice hits early in the story and LET ME TELL YOU, it hits well! However, the awkwardness settles in once Lizzie is trying to leave. Rake wants Lizzie's phone number in case he's ever in town again and she's hesitant due to her one night stand rule but gives it to him anyways.

A few days later, Lizzie finds herself getting fired from her most recent baking job because she was constantly showing up late to work and her boss was fed up. Feeling down in the dumps, she decides to see if Rake is still in town. She breaks her one night stand rule and proceeds to spend a fun day in the city with Rake. They finally say their goodbyes and Rake heads back home to Australia.

Rake is back home but can't get Lizzie off his mind and Lizzie is down in the dumps because of her job situation. She's literally sick to her stomach (vomiting) and she though she was sick because of the job situ. Let me assure you, it was not about the job. Miss Lizzie has a baby on board with none other than Mr. Rake. When she tells Rake the news, he's immediately ready to share the responsibility and be as involved as Lizzie will allow him.

Lizzie and Rake are trying to navigate co-parenting (or I guess pre-co-parenting because the baby's not here yet). Lizzie is nervous because she doesn't want Rake to think she's not cut out to be a good parent because of her forgetful and whimsical nature and Rake is nervous because he's uprooting his life to raise a child with a stranger and has difficulty opening up emotionally due to past relationship trauma. However, Lizzie and Rake are able to fall into things quite nicely. Of course there are bumps in the road because Lizzie is Lizzie, but Rake finds himself becoming very fond of her. Lizzie's character is truly wacky and infectious. I found myself laughing out loud at the things she said/did so many times. She is so off the wall but thats what makes you love her and its one of the many reasons Rake fell for her. They develop such a nice friendship and I loved all their little moments together. There was smut in the first 10% of the book which I am ALWAYS a fan of, and it was HOT! The 2 MCโ€™s are so comfortable with each other and you can just see it right off the bat.

I loved seeing how Lizzie grew. She went from being a gal with uncontrolled ADHD, not knowing how she would be able to raise a child to finding a job that was perfect for her, ways to better control her ADHD, and worked as a team with Rake to prepare for parenthood. Rake was so supportive of Lizzie as she was trying to figure her life out which was so beautiful. He never judged her for having ADHD or for the way she chose to liver her life which was refreshing because Lizzie was so used to not being accepted for who she was. She grew up with parents who didn't understand her or support her quirkiness. When Rake offered her that support and understanding, she really felt seen. Rake was also able to open up to Lizzie regarding things that happened in his previous relationship that helped her understand him better. Rake also stood up to Lizzie's parents and told them off which was VERY much necessary and was very hot ;) I mean anytime a love interest stands up to their partner's annoying/rude family is just amazing.

All in all, I ate this book up! it was such a quick read bc it had short chapters and the story was continuously moving. It never felt boring and was the perfect length. Iโ€™m typically not a fan of 3rd person POV but this was written in a way that flowed very well and was very easy to read! I never wanted to stop reading because Lizzie's character was so funny, likable, and infectious and I loved seeing her platonic co-parenting-ship with Rake turn into more.

Iโ€™m glad I gave this author another chance, but this one wasnโ€™t for me. Similar to โ€œA Brush with Love,โ€ I appreciate the representation of neurodiversity and mental illness in this book, and Iโ€™m partial to series where the secondary characters from one book get to have their own romcom in the next installment. My issues with โ€œLizzy Blakeโ€™s Best Mistakeโ€ are twofold. First, Iโ€™m not especially drawn to the accidental pregnancy romcom trope. I didnโ€™t do any research on this book beforehand, so this oneโ€™s on meโ€“โ€“I probably should have guessed what Lizzyโ€™s โ€œmistakeโ€ would be.

Secondโ€“โ€“and most importantly-โ€“the writing just isnโ€™t very strong. Itโ€™s repetitive and awkward, especially whenever thereโ€™s conflict between the characters. I noticed this in โ€œA Brush with Love,โ€ but itโ€™s especially apparent in this book, perhaps because the focus is on the protagonistโ€™s ADHD. The book reads, at times, like the author is following a WebMD checklist of the ways that adult ADHD manifests in women. Many scenes in the first half of the book feel like they were built around Lizzyโ€™s specific issues (her impulsivity, her RSD), instead of allowing those issues to come up organically. I imagine that Eddingsโ€™ lack of subtlety could be helpful to readers whoโ€™ve had similar experiences, but who havenโ€™t been able to understand or name them. But as a reader who doesnโ€™t need as much hand-holding when it comes to this topic, I wish this book didnโ€™t read so much like a PSA.

3.75 stars! I loved this book! It was cute and fun and Lizzie was a ray of sunshine. I love the platform it gives ADHD, and how Rake saw her as some kind of rare gem when she clearly did not. It was precious and sweet, and I thought they had great chemistry. The way he described her hair and eyes had me ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ

The only complaint I had was that it seemed like the author forgot she had already asked about the nickname โ€œBirdyโ€ at the beginning of the book? She asked again at the end and got the full story โ€” as well as the same cute little tease from Rake about her beak โ€” but it didnโ€™t really acknowledge that it had also happened earlier, ya know? It felt like it was mistakenly out in their twice. I wish there had been more of an acknowledgement that this was a follow-up question to the first time she asked.

I also would have loved more of a focus on her pregnancy, and her feelings of becoming a mother. It felt like kind of an afterthought once she decided to have the baby. But I would have loved to hear more of her internal monologue on becoming a mother, especially with her own broken relationship with her mom.

Adored this story! Definitely unlike any story Iโ€™ve read before and I really enjoyed seeing characters that werenโ€™t absolutely perfect. It was nice to see a character with ADHD and how they function through life and a difficult situation. Also Rake was a perfect love interest!
