More than a romance, I just found the characters and how they talked to each other laugh out loud funny. But in a good way.
Lizzie is incredibly funny, gives no f’s, and takes charge while bringing Rake along for the ride. The ride being pregnancy after the couple’s one night stand.
I don’t love accidental pregnancy to romance plots, but this one wasn’t bad. Pretty enjoyable.
I knew when reading 'A Brush with Love' I wanted to hear Lizzie's story. This was so much more than I could have anticipated. The author does such an excellent job with Lizzie's mental health and ADHD. This book could really be read as a standalone but it was great to have little cameos from Harper and Dan from 'A Brush with Love'.
There were so many moments in this book when I was laughing out loud and other moments when I reflected and related to Lizzie. This book was equal parts heartwarming and heartbreaking.
I can't wait to see what Mazey Eddings does next!
I didn't realize because the description of the book on here is so minimal, but this is an accidental pregnancy story. I don't like that trope at all, so I've decided not to read it. If I had known, I would not have requested this book.
I'm very conflicted, but I really liked the characterization. I felt that there was so much complexity and depth the author put into these characters. Maybe like an 84% like? So like 8.4/10, roughly four stars.
Baking scenes were hilarious. This was like a funny, raunchy version of great British bake off. Loved both of Mazey eddings’ books. I hope she keeps writing
I squeeeeeed in the parking lot and got weird looks from the cars parked next to me when I received this ARC. I read A Brush With Love (Eddings' debut novel), and Lizzie was so endearing and supportive to the heroine in that story, so I was beyond excited to hear she had her own book coming... and it didn't disappoint. Not. One. Bit.
Lizzie's character blew me away to be honest. There were so many moments and descriptions that resonated with me HARD CORE. I have not been diagnosed with ADHD, but am also neuro divergent and Eddings reminded me how beautiful brains can be.
The relationship with Lizzie and Rake didn't follow the often expected timeline of a romance novel and I appreciated that so much. Not only do we get delicious steam and slow burn between the two, but we also get this super REAL melding of lives. These lovebirds will stay in my heart for a very long time, just as Dan and Harper have (characters from the first novel, A Brush with Love).
LOVED:
* Lizzie's Brain! She sees the world in such a colorful and magical way and NO FREAKING WONDER Rake couldn't help but fall in love with her
* Bernadette - Erotic Pastries. Enough Said.
* He calls her Birdy... and the story behind it is precious.
* This couple doesn't just banter, they troll each other hard and it's delightful
WOULD HAVE LOVED:
* Um, just more... forever. Please build a legacy series from Lizzie's life story. kthxbai.
FAVORITE QUOTES (holy shishkabobs there are sooo many!)
* "every crafted confection, allowed her nervous system to sigh in relief. The constant flood and buzz of energy zipping randomly from neuron to neuron could finally be allowed."
* "She decided she could do this. Be more responsible. Turn a new leaf. The problem was, Lizzie had turned so many new leaves, she could be a decaying forest floor for how many of them had failed."
* "She was a ball of energy and fire and noise, so different from the calm and controlled way Rake measured his days. Some deep hidden part of him was trying to scramble out of it's cage and bask in her energy."
* "Hugs were miracles. Drastically underrated daily miracles."
* "Lizzie's energy tugged at him like the moon pulls the tide, and there were countless moments when he wanted to give in to the current."
* "It's like I'm looking up at all the energy that lives inside of me. Like whatever divine being or miracle of science that made all these beautiful stars, also made me. Whatever allows for stars to exist also allows for me to exists."
OVERALL:
MUST READ. 100%. I will literally recommend this book to every person I can talk to about it.
Thank you for Mazey Addings and Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book. I received an advanced review copy for my honest review and here it is. Tada!
Lizzie is great at one-night stands. But something about Rake-- the gorgeous Australian man she met at the bar-- has thrown her for a loop, and when she picks up the keys she accidentally left in his hotel room, she sleeps with him for a second time, which is, for her, almost unheard of. Two weeks later, with Rake safely back in Australia so she doesn't have to worry she'll give into her desire and sleep with him a THIRD time, she discovers that she's pregnant. When she calls him to let him know, Rake surprises her by jumping on a plane to talk things through in person. He's insistent that he wants to move to be near her, and wants them to move in together so he can support her and be right there when the baby comes.
The spark between Lizzie and Rake is intense, sweet, funny, and sexy all at once. Right from the beginning it would be almost impossible not to root for them, and they only get more lovable (individually and as a couple, try as they might to keep things platonic).
Something I really appreciated about this book was that Lizzie has ADHD, and it was one of the first times I've ever seen that part of myself reflected in a book so well (something Mazey Eddings has done twice now-- the anxiety rep in A Brush With Love was also very familiar). The ADHD is shown as something that creates a lot of problems for Lizzie but not as a moral failing of hers (except from a character we're meant to see as the bad guy).
I've been a HUGE fan of Mazey Eddings since about the first page of A Brush With love and didn't think it would be possible for me to love this book even more, but Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake is one of my favorite books I've read in a really long time.
Not for me. Main character too crass. I couldn't relate at all with the main character and I unfortunately did not finish the book.
I absolutely loved this book! I've never been a fan of the surprise pregnancy trope but when I saw Mazey Eddings wrote it, I knew I needed to read it. I fell in love with this friend group when I read A Brush With Love and when I saw there was a book about Lizzie, I could not wait. Coming from a woman with ADHD, Lizzies character captured what I go through on a daily basis perfectly. The way that Rake loves her for who she is is my biggest dream! I can't wait to read more by this author.
Another really excellent book my Mazey Eddings. Her neurodiverse characters are always multi-faceted, funny, and people you want to spend a lot of time with. The way Lizzie's ADHD is explained is thorough, and helps you have a lot of empathy for her. And Rake is such a good partner for her who wants to learn more about how to help her, and listens when she explains what she's going through. If you've read and loved Mazey's first book, like I did, you'll be happy to see characters from that one show up here. The best friends are ride or die, and at first make some mistakes in handling Lizzie's big surprise, but redeem themselves quickly. This is a romance with a lot of steaminess too, and I am here for it. So really, you laugh, you cry, you feel all sexy. What's there not to love?
Thank you for this book Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake in exchange for my honest review.
Wow! Can Mazey Eddings write well? Yes she can! This is my second book to read from this author and I think I loved Lizzie!: story better than A Brush With Love! Not only could I relate to Lizzie as someone with ADHD, I absolutely enjoyed Rake and Lizzie’s relationship! Who can’t relate to finding love when you least expect it? Sometimes life isn’t what you think it will be, and Lizzie Blake’s story proves that that is just fine! Mazey Edding’s books are now an autobuy for me!
YAII. THIS BOOK. I literally teared up at the
dedication, and then basically the entire last 20%. And don't even get me started on the acknowledgments. As a fellow ADHDer, this book honestly meant more than I think I can ever express. I am very different from Lizzie in a lot of ways. But the way she felt about her brain. The way she felt like she was too much, unlovable. A lot of her quirks and habits. These were all things that felt like a reflection of my own life. I ended up highlighting like half of the book. Not only is this story sexy, and sweet, and HILARIOUS. It's a love letter to every ADHD person who has felt like they were too much and yet not enough at the same time. Who have felt like they're a failure and don't deserve love. And
even more generally, just any neurodiverse person who has felt this way (even if it wasn't ADHD). This book is my newest hyper fixation/obsession and I won't be getting over it anytime soon
Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake is a ROMCOM about a black sheep of a well off family that happens to have ADHD. She is looking to find herself, love and a familial connection. She is equal parts confident and insecure. When she finds herself the carrier of an unexpected pregnancy via a two night stand she gives the baby daddy an out. But Rake, said baby daddy, is not interested in an out. He is emphatically all in.
Lizzie, like most disasters, is very relatable. Everyone has that stretch of time where nothing seems to go right. But for Lizzie it’s been quite a long stretch of time. Even though for a number of reasons, Lizzie should have driven me crazy and in turn I should not like her; because of the way Mazy Eddings wrote her I found myself rooting for her so hard. Anytime she spaced out, showed up late, bumped into strangers, puked on the sidewalk , had a curt conversation with her mother- I was there rooting Lizzie on as her life was on fire. I loved how Eddings explored and played out Lizzies adult ADHD in a way that felt very real and not just glossed over.
Rake was someone I wished I got to know a bit better. His intensity and devotion was swoon worthy. There were times I thought he was maybe too perfect but then he’d mess something up and become very human quite quickly. Which I enjoyed.
I would recommend this book to the hot messes out there. The ones that are not sick of the red head main character. Those that can stomach eating genital inspired cupcakes.
This is my first book by Mazey Eddings, and I can’t wait to read more! “Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake” features the protagonist, Lizzie- a neurodivergent character who is struggling to manage her adult ADHD and the ways in which it impacts her life and relationships. This book features themes such as forced proximity, accidental pregnancy*, and instant attraction. (*I normally do not continue accidental pregnancy books, but the context and situation in this narrative somehow made it ok.)
While the primary romantic relationship is heartwarming and quirky, my favorite part of this novel is its treatment of mental health- wrestling with her mothers historical treatment of her and her illness, problem solving solutions for succeeding with her neurodivergent symptoms, and creating a positive plan for the future. Additionally, the book has lots of spice and uses humorous banter to move the narrative along. Can’t recommend highly enough! Thank you to Net Galley, the author, and publisher for this electronic ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this as I was reading it but now that it's been a few weeks since I read it, I find myself forgetting it was ever on my shelf. Although it was enjoyable, I just don't think I can confidently recommend it to anyone coming in and sell it.
I went into this book blindly. This is my first book by Mazey Eddings but won’t be my last!
This story centers around Lizzie who lives with ADHD and hooks up with Rake and unexpectedly becomes pregnant. I will be the first to admit pregnancy tropes can be annoying to read but I really did enjoy this one. It’s very well done. The chemistry between these characters is addicting and HOT. I found myself being pulled to my kindle to just read more.
My only complaint is that there wasn’t more.
Tropes:
*instant attraction
*accidental pregnancy
*one bed
This book was everything you could want in romance!! I loved the light it shined on the struggles of adult ADHD and sex positivity. It’s hard not to fall in love with Lizzie Blake and feel like you really know her. Lizzie and Rakes journey is heart warming, sexy, and charming. Could not recommend this book enough!
This book is a laugh out loud romance that deals with subjects like, ADHD and RSD.
Lizzie and Rake have a two night stand that causes unexpected issues. They were never supposed to see each other again. But, circumstances change all that.
The story is well written and the characters are not only funny but heartbreaking and heartwarming.
This book took me for a wild ride of feelings. I was so happy to see the author do ADHD justice. I loved how raw and honest the book was, how Lizzie's characterization was respectful and loving. I loved Rake's devotion to and adoration of Lizzie. The two of them had me near tears. Incredible!
This is a MUST READ. Like no joke. I just got finished with it and I directly came to Goodreads to show this out to the world!!! Wow, the author's writing style puts you in a trance. You literally feel like you're there in these lives with the characters living it with them. The twists and turns kept me so intrigued, I just HAD to keep reading to see how this book turned out! Lizzie is so relatable, as I have ADHD myself. Beyond that, she's so loveable, outgoing and fully raw. I love that about her! She lives her life vividly without a regret. Rake on the other hand is well put together, tidy and a little reserved but they fit together so dang well. You're going to be rooting for them like you rooted for Ross and Rachel on Friends, the entire time! I absolutely loved this book. Going to tell all my friends to check out this romantic comedy. Had me giggling then tearing up then worried what would come next! And that ENDING. Girl, please. The whole thing was just so flawless. GRAB THIS THE MOMENT IT RELEASES, you will NOT regret it.
This ARC was given to me to review from the publishers and NetGalley. All comments above are solely my true opinion after reading this book.
