I really enjoyed the authorial voice throughout this book and the neurodivergent representation. A surprise pregnancy where a character is somewhat struggling to manage her own life, though, is hard to swallow and makes the romance a bit less captivating.

I should have read the content warnings on this before I requested it. The unplanned pregnancy trope was triggering for me at the time so I had to put it down and come back to it.

Once I was ready for it, I loved it! I adore this universe that Mazey’s created and can’t wait to read the next installment. The friend group in this series is #goals - and the romance isn’t bad either!

I read this without realizing that it was book 2, so as of right now I have not read A Brush with Love. I enjoyed this book. I loved the ADHD representation in Lizzie and how she fought to be better every day. The struggle is real. I also loved that she found people who understood her and helped her when she needed it. It really does take a village to survive this life. The erotic bakery is absolutely something I would jump to be a part of, the fact that it was underground was hilarious. Rake, omg to his name, is a beautifully flawed character, He has baggage that makes it hard for him to open up to Lizzie but he’s a stand-up guy and does what he can to help take care of her since she didn’t get into her situation alone. This book was laugh-out loud funny and made me cry near the end. I’m looking forward to reading other books by this author for sure.

Mazey Eddings has been added to the list of favorite authors for me. Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake is the second book in the A Brush with Love series, but I read this one first. Even without reading A Brush With Love prior to this, I didn’t feel like I was missing out on anything, and I loved having the chance to go back and read the first book after this one.

Lizzie is a completely relatable main character, and Mazey does an excellent job at making Lizzie’s ADHD a part of the character but not the entire focus. I didn’t read too much about this book before diving in, so I was surprised that one of the main plot points/tropes in the book was a surprise pregnancy. This is usually a miss for me in books, but Mazey incorporates this perfectly into the character arcs for Lizzie and Rake without overwhelming the other developments as their relationship progresses.

I loved Lizzie and the life that she builds for herself throughout the book, and I adored Rake as the male lead. It’s clear that his feelings for Lizzie are driven by more the surprise pregnancy they find themselves in.

All the stars, and I’ll definitely be picking up more books from Mazey Eddings.

First of all, I am absolutely obsessed with Mazey Edding's writing so as soon as I saw this novel I knew I would love it. I am OBSESSED with Lizzie and Rake as both individuals and as a couple, They both have so many amazing qualities that are amplified by each other, which makes you root for them throughout the entire novel. Highly recommend!!

I thoroughly enjoyed Mazey Eddings’ first installment of this series and was anxiously awaiting the follow up. This book did not disappoint. Written with Eddings’ classic wit, humor, and sarcasm, the MC Lizzie accidentally becomes pregnant following a one night stand and embarks on a journey of single parenthood. However, her Australian hookup, Rake, isn’t one to back down from responsibility. What starts out as platonic co-parenting obviously turns into more and I’m here for it all!

Lizzie: feeling too much, expressing too much, saying everything aloud comes into her mind, too straightforward, fireball, dealing with her ADHD by running away from attachments, experienced in hookups!

This is a very classic case of “it’s not you, it’s me.” I have been following Mazey on IG for a long time and was so excited for her that I overlooked the fact that this book is one of my least favorite tropes. I really wanted to love Lizzie Blake, especially because of the neurodivergent representation, but I just couldn’t get past the accidental pregnancy trope.

What a fun read. Lizzie can't seem to fit in anywhere and her family lets her know it every time they see her. Along comes Rake and her world changes. After spending a weekend under Rake's Australian charms, Lizzie finds that she is pregnant. Driven by his desire to be important in his child's life, he moves to America. As their relationship grows, hilarious situations and sarcasm bring lightheartedness to their lives. I really enjoyed reading this.

Loved this one! This book has great ADHD rep. Typically, I am not a fan of the tropes in these books but it worked for me in this one. The characters were so loveable and flawed, it made a beautiful messy love story. Really strong book from Mazey!

this was fantastic! I blew through this and finished it in less than 24 hours. After finishing The Luckiest Girl alive it was exactly what I needed. It was hilarious, adorable, and the authenticity in which ADHD was incorporated was top notch. Also I’ve never felt so strongly about a book boyfriend and I might be a tiny bit in love with Rake. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series!

Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake follows Lizzie, an incredible baker who has struggled to adjust to adult life with ADHD, and Rake, an Australian she meets after she is assaulted in a bar waiting for a blind date. Rake is visiting NYC and after a few days of fun, he heads back home. Two weeks later, Lizzie discovers that she's pregnant. As Lizzie and Rake try to figure out the best ways to coparent and cohabitate they start to realize that maybe they don't need to push their feelings for each other away.

I really enjoyed this one! I found myself pulled into the chaos that Lizzie and Rake dealt with and was cheering them on every step of the way! Unfortunately I think this was a case of wrong story, wrong time for me. I found the way the book treated abortion to be really out of touch and decided to DNF after I read about the ex and her abortion.

This quote from https://medium.com/helen-reads/lizzie-blakes-best-mistake-95d34434dfd3 sums it up perfectly for me. "Blaming Rake’s emotional withdrawal on his ex’s abortion almost entirely negated all the things both Rake and Lizzie said about how abortion is a valid choice for a pregnant person. You can’t simultaneously validate abortion while also using it as the reason one of the main characters was so messed up. It felt like the book was trying to play both sides of the coin and it was really frustrating and disappointing."

I think Mazey Eddings writes some really great characters so I hope to connect with one of her future books.

I gave the book 2 stars below but I do not typically rate books that I DNF.

This book just felt so over the top and unrealistic to me. There was no real connection between Lizzie and Rake and it was just so difficult to get into the story. I am also not a fan of the surprise pregnancy trope so that just made me dislike this even more.

Loved this cute rom-com! The main characters were lovable! I loved the chemistry between them and how they tried to keep a plutonic relationship. Lizzie’s quirks and personality were likable and relatable. This book was laugh out loud funny and also had a lot of heart. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

I loved Lizzie and Rakes Story.
This author was new to me and the story was a bit of a slow st.art, but once i got into it i couldn't put it down.
I absolutely loved Lizzies' character, and her fun energetic ways. She was such a refreshing character from what i have been reading lately.
Lizzie and rakes chemistry was there from the begining and never wavered. Rakes adoration for lizzie made my heart melt.
Over all this book had it all.
Great representation, the cutest love story, a bunch of laughs and a great ending!

I absolutely adored Lizzie, and her energy and zest for life. Her character was a breath of fresh air, and I just loved her. You don’t read many books where the main character has ADHD, and I thought the author did a great job of educating the reader about it while making it fit in the story.

Rake was such an adorable character. I loved how enamored with Lizzie he was. The chemistry between the two of them was undeniable, and there are definitely some spicy scenes in this book.

This is the second book in the A Brush with Love series. It’s a connected series so you can read this as a stand-alone which is what I did not realizing it was part of a series. I loved Mazey Eddings writing style so I will definitely read the first book, and I look forward to continuing the series. I loved this book so I highly recommend checking this series out!

This was my first time reading anything by this author. Though is didn't LOVE this read it was still good. It was an easy read and had some funny one liners and such in it...it just wasn't my favorite.

This book was a bit of a slow start for me, but I am so glad I stuck with it. I ended up really enjoying Lizzie and Rake's story.

They were both interesting characters with past experiences that have negatively shaped how they see themselves and relationships. However, they find a strong connection when an unexpected pregnancy brings them closer together.

As I said before, this book really did start off a bit too slow for me. However, it did become more evenly paced as the story progressed. I also ended up liking Lizzie and Rake more and more as the dual POV let me get inside their heads and understand them better.

Overall this was a solid read and I am looking forward to the author's next book!
