Other Birds by Sarah Addison Allen is available now. For fans of magical realism and romance this is a sweet story that follows Zoey who heads to her deceased mother's house and finds quirky neighbors and encounters some paranormal activity. I have enjoyed this author in the past for the feel good vibes. This book is quite a bit different than what she normally writes but I still thought it was a good story.

I waited for years for Allen's latest book. I discovered her years ago and instantly devoured her books of magical realism as soon as I could.

Other Birds is a sweet book of never really fitting in, but finally finding your place among a found family.

Thank you, NetGalley, for an e-ARC of Other Birds by Sarah Addison Allen.
Other Birds is the story of a girl trying to reconnect with her past by visiting the home her mother lived in before her death. A story about life, death, and the choices we make. Told in different points of view, including voices of ghosts that "haunt" the complex. A sweet story that shows the power of friendship.

Other Birds is a magical realism/supernatural story about friendships and second chances. Zoey moves into her late mother's old condo at The Dellawisp in a lovely little island in South Carolina, known for it's marshmallow industry and tourism. She vows to make friends with the other residents, all whom have secrets from the past they carry deep within them. Thrown into the mix are the Dellawisp birds themselves - funny little turquoise birds known for stealing items from the residents

I started this book once, months ago, and ended up putting it down as it didn't grab me and my TBR was calling. That's the lovely and funny thing about books! Sometimes you found the right book at the wrong time. I decided to pick it back up after a friend read it and loved it. I found that I devoured it the second time around. I fell in love with the allure and magical qualities of Mallow Island and The Dellawisp. I LOVED the characters and watching how they grew and changed. I'm so glad I came back to this lovely book, what a treasure. If you love a character heavy read with some magical components subtlety woven in to a sweet story, you also may love this one!

Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read in exchange for my honest review!

This copy was kindly given to me by the publisher and Netgalley for review. All opinions are my own.

I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH. I have missed Sarah Addison Allen's books and this one did not disappoint. If anything, I hate I didn't read it sooner. There is just so much magic to her writing, language and stories. I loved the different POVs throughout this novel and the different take on the ghost that follow the characters. Allen's books are so much fun and always put me in a better mood; it might sound weird but it makes me look at the mundane moments of life as a little more magical.

I can't rave about this book enough.

I absolutely love Sarah Addison Allen and I really enjoy magical realism so I was looking forward to this book and sadly it disappointed me. Each of the SAA books I have read in the past were delicious from the start and ended up being scrumptious and making me want seconds. Honestly, if I had not have read an SAA book before I might have abandoned this one very early on. As you can see, it has taken me some time from reading to writing this review. I hate to be negative and sound whiny but really there were parts of this book that were like eating the best cheesecake but more parts like pouring a glass of milk only to realize it is sour. That is the only way I can describe it. It was a good story but parts of it were too wordy for me and it wasn't as magical as her other books. Don't go by my review. There are many reviews raving and some where people liked this less than I did but...I am still a fan of Sarah Addison Allen and will always read what she writes and I thank her for making magical realism with all the trimmings a genre.

Zoey is ready for a fresh start and that begins the moment she arrives at The Dellawisp, an apartment building on Mallow Island, South Carolina named for the magical little birds that call the building home. Zoey is hoping for a chance to connect with her deceased mother who left the apartment to her, but what she finds is not at all what she expected. The Dellawisp's tenants are quite the characters and there is something truly magical about the place. Can Zoey find what she is looking for with a little bit of magic?

It took me a while to get into this book, but I finished it three days ago and I still keep thinking about it. The idea of what makes a home is what really stuck with me after this book. For each person, the idea of home is completely different. I really liked seeing how each of their stories unfolded. The writing style is not my personal favorite, but the story is definitely one I will take with me.

I loved the imagery of the ghosts and the found family Allen created. While it was certainly predictable, its a good segue away from Nora Roberts or Danielle Steel

After graduating high school, Zoey has returned to Mallow Island in South Carolina to claim the apartment her mother left her. The Dellawisp has a small cast of quirky residents: two estranged middle-aged sisters, a quiet chef, a struggling artistic young woman, and the reliable caretaker. But ghosts also linger here, and they have opinions about how these residents are living. As Zoey settles in, small mysteries emerge that bring these misfit “other birds” together. A lovely book about community and found family, with the lightly magical backdrop that Sarah Addison Allen is known for–a heartwarming and cozy read.

Thanks to Netgalley,, St. Martins Press and especially Sarah Addison Allen for this ARC. I love this authors books, they are always so magical and heartwarming. I’ve waited so long for a new book by this author, and she definitely did not disappoint. I loved all the characters, all the storylines and the mystery surprises. I’ve read and loved all of Ms. Allen’s books with each one better then the one before, if that’s even possible. 5stars is my rating, and if I could give it 10, I would. Congratulations Sarah Addison Allen on this new magical, and heartwarming book. It was well worth waiting for.

A fantastical array of characters each with their own gifts. Zoey is embarking on a journey to discover her past on beautiful Mallow Island. The Dellawisp condos and their inhabitants are both quirky and unique. So is Zoey with her invisible bird Pigeon. The condos are named after a local and rare bird called the Dellawisp. Someone dies on the property not long after Zoey arrives and the mystery begins. This colorful cast of characters will keep you guessing, not to mention the ghosts.

I NEVER miss a novel by Sarah Addison Allen. Her books are always a special treat. Her sense of place is phenomenal. She makes you feel as if you are there, her characters come alive and the real world disappears.

I’ve never read anything by this author but now I need to read everything! Magical realism at its finest! I absolutely loved the characters from the very beginning! Zoey moves into her diseased mothers apartment with her invisible bird named pigeon…. A murder happens right away and the eccentric people from the apartment complex come together to find out what happened. This story is heartwarming and beautiful and a complete change of pace for me. I truly enjoyed it!

Sarah Addison Allen is a must-read author for me and I appreciated the opportunity to read and provide an honest review of Other Birds! I always appreciate the dash of magic in Allen's books that is just enough to be whimsical but not so much that the world is unfamiliar. This story of found family was lovely. The hidden away apartment complex, and the birds flitting about were so delightful. This was a beautiful reminder that the hard parts of our stories are not the whole story and that something better and fulfilling might just be waiting where you least expect. If you're looking for a story of friendship, redemption, and some whimsy, this is the book for you!

Sarah Addison Allen does it again, I loved this so so much. If you like magical realism, secrets, found families, secrets, ghosts (they're not scary, I swear), and did I mention secrets? Check out Other Birds. The long wait since her last book was totally worth it.

While tagging my shelves I accidentally clicked food, and then realized, no, food totally fits. Allen has a talent for describing food that I feel like I can taste it.

Magical realism set on Mallow Island, SC (close to Charleston) this long awaited new novel by beloved Sarah Addison Allen did not disappoint. Zoey is heading to the College of Charleston and claims her deceased mother’s apartment at the Dellawisps. A horseshoe shaped complex on the island, the Dellwisps are home to a group of eccentric characters who have historically kept to themselves. But shortly after Zoe arrives, one of the tenants dies and the group bands together to figure out just what happened to her.
