oh my goodness how charming. extremely sweet and romantic and sexy, clearly drawn so much that you can see the movie in your mind. the hook is good, the characters are likable and it's just so satisfying
I received this book for free for an honest review from netgalley #netgalley
This book got me out of my book hang over, so good!
Somewhere between the two types of Hallmark movies is the plot of this book. Emotional abuse, addictions, and the steep price of fame are balanced out by childhood nostalgia and a couple of cinnamon rolls who constantly misunderstand each other and hurt each other but want the best for each other.
I liked the concept and tried really hard to continue with the book, however I ended up not caring for the characters that much and unfortunately dnfed.
A cute romance about a second chance love story. An easy read, would be great for vacation - or if you are a fan of HGTV. Some spicy scenes, FYI - I'd say medium-hot salsa. Perfect for fans of Jasmine Guillory or Christina Lauren. The story flowed well and the addition of some family drama made me want to keep reading. The ending was my absolute favorite part, I how the author wrapped everything up!
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review!
I loved this book! Just outright absolutely adored it so much.
First off, these characters are awesome (except two, those two are terrible and I hate them) - Shelby is a total badass who, like so many people, made some mistakes in her youth. Sucks for her that they were very public mistakes, but she's turned into a woman I want to be friends with. And Cameron is just. So. Perfect. I loved that this was not your typical romance where the main love interests have some sort of falling out - the "us against the evil Lyle" feeling really worked for me. All around this was sweet, funny, and wonderful!
Opinion: Adorable and surprisingly spicy. I loved it. I was quickly hooked into this read and spoke about it often. It was fun and witty. Former child stars who secretly dated are reunited to film a “fix-it-up” type reality show. Working together is a breeze and so is the “fake flirting” but things (as always) get real and this witty storyline with lovable side characters will have you laughing.
Details from their past (since it’s a second chance romance) are seamlessly added to the storyline. I enjoyed the characters and nods towards modern references, the song titles (since they sang on their former tv show), and the supporting characters were great. Man I hope some of the side characters get their own books because they were just as wonderfully created as the main characters. When “Built to Last” is released in the fall, I’ll be happy to add it to my list of recommendations. So cute and spicy.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the early look in exchange for an honest review.

This wasn't my cup of tea but it will definitely appeal to some. There's a cute fixer upper vibe going on but that was the most likeable thing for me.
The language and open door sex is an instant turn off and the two main characters weren't very likeable. This was a DNF for me.
Reading Built to Last felt a lot like watching some of my favorite rom coms…the ones that I can’t pass up if they’re randomly on tv or that I know like the back of my hand so it’s just comforting to have it on in the background.
The characters weren’t picture perfect teen stars. They were real and had real issues which was refreshing. Loved the setting. Loved hating the antagonist. Loved rooting for the leading couple.
If you love a good romance with a little spice and flavor and ALSO have a thing for shows of the HGTV/Fixer Upper persuasion, then add this one to your list. Shelby & Riggs were MFEO. (And if you don’t understand that reference, google it, then add that movie to your watch list.)
And a big thank you to @stmartinspress and Erin Hahn for this eARC!
I was super excited to read this adult romance from the bestselling ya author, Erin Hahn, and she did not disappoint! Shelby and Cameron are former teen Hollywood stars, and they’ve just been given a second chance to get to know each other again - and maybe rekindle the spark from years ago. Now they are renovating a house together for an upcoming reality show. In Michigan, in a decidedly non-Hollywood town, they discover who they really are and if their relationship and love can survive in the real world outside the glitz and glam of Hollywood. Their story is angsty, yet endearing. Their sidekicks are lovable. And their shenanigans are hilarious. Pick this one up if you are looking for a fun unique twist on a modern day romcom.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC to read and review. All opinions are my own.
2.5 STARS
First things first, I was given a copy of this book as an ARC, in exchange for an honest review. A big thank-you to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Griffin, and Erin Hahn for allowing me to be an early reader!
I’m going to start this review off by saying I was quite disappointed. I had such high hopes for this book. The plot and storyline are so good, but unfortunately, it just wasn’t executed right in my opinion.
Shelby Springfield and Cameron Riggs are childhood sweethearts. They starred in a popular teen show together and since then they’ve had a strong chemistry.
Eventually the two of them part. Cameron moves on to work for National Geographic, while Shelby has found a passion for home renovations and restoring antiques.
Years later, Cameron and Shelby get an opportunity to star together on a home renovation reality TV show. The two of them work together restoring antiques, renovating a home, and filming a pilot episode for the series.
Throughout the two of them working together, Shelby and Cameron are able to connect with one another again, and see that their chemistry hasn’t gone anywhere.
When I read the blurb of this book I was so excited. Second chance romances are one of my favourite tropes, and the home renovation aspect seemed so interesting to me.
There were just so many parts of this book that made me cringe and gave me second-hand embarrassment. Also, as you can see, this book had me in a total slump. I’ve been reading this book since April 9th, and it is currently April 22nd. That being said, I think if you’re able to get past that, this book would be totally up your alley!
If the plot of this book piqued your interest, then make note of the release day: October 18th, 2022! x
Second chance lovers with a slow burn Hollywood setting. I loved the part when they had to share a hotel room. At first they were enemies and slowly ending up falling back in love. The percent feel good romance novel.
Honestly, it was the cover of this book that made me want to read it so bad initially. The cover and the whole entire book were just so stinkin’ cute. I was a little nervous at first but then the writing style just sucked me in and I was consumed in this book. I read it so quickly. I loved the characters so much. This book would make such a cute housewarming gift for a friend! I loved it. I promise when you read it, you’ll be quickly consumed and love it!

Two childhood sweethearts find a second chance at love
This book gave me "With love and other words" by Christina Lauren vibes. Shelby and Cameron after almost a decade apart find themselves reunited for a home renovation pilot. But even after being apart for a long time, these two can't hide their feelings for one another.
If you like books with...

I loved Built to Last. It was the perfect blend of last chance love and jaded third party romance. I loved that I rooted for the two main characters from page 1. I also loved that nothing overly tragic happened to throw the readers off. It was a quick, easy, enjoyable read!
Thanks to NetGalley & St Martin's for the e-ARC.
Better than I expected! I'm not usually interested in "Hollywood" stories and definitely not anything reality-tv related but this was really cute. I loved the main characters, Shelby and Cameron, and the way the author wove their back stories with their present relationship. Shelby, in particular, was a great, independent female lead character. And Lyle. Oh, Lyle, you just want to throttle him. He's the reason this is 4 stars instead of 5 - I didn't get why they put up with him for so long.
No spoilers but I would LOVE to have seen Cameron's video. And yet, the author did such a great job describing it, you feel like you're watching it on the page anyway, it's so vivid.
Okay there is really nothing better than a mediocre child pop star turning into a refurnishing superstar. I am obsessed. I really love this book. I have been a fan of Erin Hahn's YA stuff so when I saw this novel I was excited to see her break in to the Adult space.
This book has it all. It makes you laugh. It makes you swoon. It's a second chance romantic comedy that will have you turning the page until you get to the last one and then still makes you want more. I highly recommend this book. I couldn't not give it five stars.
From the first page of Built to Last, I was laughing. The plot is established early, which drew me in quickly as I chased the slow burn romance. It's a dual POV which is perfect for a romantic comedy centered around miscommunication, and rationalizing why she didn't just come out and say what she was thinking, or why he left the way he did. Another fun element is that each chapter is titled after a song, giving a playlist for this story.
What’s special about this story is that it wraps you up in rustic goodness. A home remodeling TV show and plenty of spicy scenes. This is the perfect romantic comedy with a setting so vivid I could smell the sawdust as I read.
This is my new favorite cozy yet spicy read.
Top notch wit!. I really enjoyed the sardonic humor. Hahn created some fantastic characters in a story that felt realistic. The home reno was balanced well enough that I felt like I was there without going so far that it reads as a how to manual. Would definitely recommend.
This was my first book by the author. It was an ok read. Definitely didn’t wow me and took me a bit longer to read, but still good. I didn’t feel a connection to the characters or the plot.
Thank you NetGalley & St. Martin's Griffin for the ARC.
