This is a review for a five chapter PREVIEW of Husband Material.
Ugh, okay, so 5 chapters was not NEARLY enough of what I needed to get me back to Oliver and Lucien. The book opens with a bang—there is a “bespoke crocheted vulva hat” on page one (if that doesn’t make you want to check this out, then nothing will), and the dialogue is immediately and inherently Alexis Hall magic. Falling into Luc’s brain is so easy and effortless you feel as if you’ve known him and been friends with him for years. Bridge, Tom, Rhys, and Alex are already lined up as a familiar cast of characters and the story is placed approximately two years after the ending of Boyfriend Material. Just from the glimpse I got, if you were a fan of Boyfriend Material, Husband Material may prove to be an even wiser, smarter version, with just as excellent cast as before. Alexis Hall has once again created something special. Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for my preview ARC in exchange for an honest review.

O gosh, I loved the first chapters, I can't wait for the whole book! The humor, the dialogues, everything is just perfect! I NEED MORE!

This preview was so good. I can't wait to real the full novel (which I have an advanced copy of so hopefully I can read it soon!)

I am looking forward to reading the rest of this book. I've already laughed out loud several times! I'm so happy to be immersed into the lives of these characters again. I hope Bridge is okay!

OH MY GOD IM GOING TO DIE WHEN THIS BOOK IS LAUNCHED. Alexis Hall has created such a soft book, and Oliver's dynamic with Luc is amazing. I just wasn't to read about the NONSTOP. Even after this preview, I KNOW FOR SURE THIS IS GOING TO BE A 5 STAR BOOK.

I am beyond excited to read the whole thing. I’m a huge fan of Alexis Hall’s work and absolutely adored Boyfriend Material. I can’t wait until I have Husband Material in my hands so I can once again relate a little too much to Luc…

I am have read only a preview, not a full book!
I like this book, the plot was quite interesting and the characters were great. I am looking forward to read full book.
I recommend!

Ahhhh I'm so excited for this book, it's going to be so amazing.
The first book was so great and I'm expecting to fall in love with these characters all over again.

I'm feeling the same vibes I got and that made me love Boyfriend Material, so I couldn't be more exited for this book!!! I can't wait for Luc and Oliver to make fall in love with them all over again.

BEYOND excited for this one--I gobbled the sample of the continuation of Luc and Oliver's story and Hall, as per usual, had me cackling out loud in the first 5 pages. I didn't get access to the full dARC so have my book release reminder set to pluck this one from the shelf of my local indie bookshop come August 2nd.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks for the chance to read a preview of this book!
This book maintains the delightful tone and cast of characters from Boyfriend Material. But my fears about the presence of a sequel with the same couple are coming to pass. Luc and Oliver had what seemed to me like an HEA, but now there are all kinds of things--Luc's ex, Luc's dad, Luc's best friend--putting strain on that relationship. I love them together and I don't want to see them coming apart! I think I'll have to wait for someone else to read the book and let me know if the whole thing is as angsty as all these conflicts being set up in the first few chapters. I certainly hope not!!

I am beyond stoked to read the rest of this book, one of my all time favorite cast of characters and one of my all time favorite authors!!!! This book felt like slipping back into a favorite spot or with a group of friends you’ve missed. It felt so good to be home but now I am not so patiently waiting

I really enjoyed this preview jumping back into the story of these characters that I love so much. The first book was incredible and I have very high expectations for the sequel but I fully trust Alexis Hall to exceed them. This preview got me excited for the full book!

I always know better with previews. They just make me desperate for more! I loved this little sneak peek into what will be coming next for my two favorite characters. Luc and Oliver are just out there, living their lives, while I sit here stewing over the fact that I have to wait to catch up with them.
10/10 cannot wait for the rest of this one. Am dying to be back with these characters and I can't wait to see what else is in store for them along the way.

I absolutely loved the preview of the first 5 chapters of Husband Material. Coming back to Luc and Oliver was like visiting old friends- I could still hear their voices in my head and smiled at their quirks, internal monologues, and (my favorite) dry humor. I'm so looking forward to the release of the full book!

Just the first 5 chapters here, but I felt immediately brought back to this universe I enjoy so much, and I'm very much looking forward to the rest!

I think it's only fair to say that Boyfriend Material was one of my favorite books from last year, so Husband Material was probably always gonig to be a slam dunk for me. I love Lucien and Oliver and their messy, chaotic relationship, so getting to dive back into their story was like visiting old friends.
Husband Material fully delivers. We find Luc and Oliver a few years older and while still solidly in that honeymoon/new love phase, they are relaxing into a comfortable life together. Generally speaking, romances are pretty straight forward, which I actually like. We read them, at least I do, because regardless of the shenanigans that occur along the way, that there will be a happy ending. What I love about these books is that the journey to that HEA is a constant rollercoaster, Luc and Oliver (and their family and friends) are allowed to be imperfect in a way that feels realistic - even though we don't all have rock star fathers or unsupportive mothers, even though we haven't all dealt with eating disorders or anxiety, even if the lives Luc and Oliver live are different then out own - there is something universal about their experiences. Something that we can easily relate to that makes us get deeply invested in their story.
Without giving anything away- Hall does something with this book that I love so much. We get the ending that both we as readers and Luc and Oliver deserve. Even if it's not neccesarily the one we thought we wanted. As the story progesses we see them headed towards the alter, trying to work their way through merging their personal aesthetics, what they've envisioned the day to be, and that is messy. If you've ever planned a wedding or even been to one, you know the pressure and stress to make it "perfect" is monumental. Luc and Oliver crash into eachother over and over again trying to define perfect and in the end it wraps up exactly as it should.
I closed the book thinking "Yes. That was perfectly Luc and Oliver. Any other ending wouldn't have worked." I can't wait for everyone else to get their hands on this one!

Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall was one of the better recent LGBTQ fiction novels, straddling the line between YA and Adult readers with something for everyone.
Husband Material - so far - is an equally enthralling follow-up, picking up a couple of years after where the first book left off with the same characters in new situations. Second novels often fall into a trap, trying to outdo the first book and losing what made the characters special. Hall has deftly avoided this trip by keeping the humour flowing, staying true to the characters and putting them in believable - rather than exceptional - circumstances.
If anything, the premise of the first book - a pretend relationship turned real - was more fantastical than its sequel. This is rare, and welcomed.
It looks like fans of the first book are going to love this sequel, and I'm looking very forward to finishing it come August.

I had literally just finished reading Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall, headed on over to Instagram and saw that this preview was available. I literally went from book 1 to a preview to book 2! I NEED to pick this one up as soon as it is released! I devoured this preview!
This preview follows the first five chapters of Husband Material and continues where Boyfriend Material left off.
Luc and Oliver are just sweethearts and they need to be protected!
The humour continued. The witty banter between the two charcters continued. The wacky friends being zany continued. The sweetness continued. The Britishisms continued. I LOVED this little preview - I will need this book injected directly into my veins on the day of release - I cannot wait!
