*Review is of Book Preview (Chapters 1-5) not the entire novel. *

Husband Material is one of my most anticipated releases and I was so excited to get this "extended sneak peek" of it after Boyfriend Material landed in my Top Ten of 2021.

This book takes romcoms a step further than the typical timeline of a romance. It also diverts from the standard romcoms lineup which usually entails a chain of friends finding their happily ever after through their companion novels series.

**Warning Mild Spoilers Below**

To start, we're met with Luc realizing that the phenomenon of marriage is literally happening all around him. More specifically, people like his estranged ex being engaged to someone new and his best friend having her bachelorette party on the same night. We didn't get far enough into this novel to see how this topic comes across to Oliver's and Luc's lives but the drama that began surrounding it was interesting. I love that there was a sense of familiarity with the same characters as before but everyone's a little bit older. Instead of seeing the Meet Cute with the usual HEA at the end, we're seeing all the messy drama that follows with the foreshadowing of a wedding.

Thank you SourceBooks Casablanca and Netgalley for this preview of Husband Material.

This preview contains the first 5 chapters of the book. I read through these in one sitting without even realizing it. In the end, I was left wanting more. Can't wait to read the whole book once it's out. Love it. Looking forward to following the rest of the story

The first five chapters of Husband Material are a wonderful reintroducing of the main and secondary characters of Boyfriend Material, as well as introducing some new characters. The first five chapters set up some very interesting (and some wonderfully funny!) situations, and I’m very much looking forward to seeing where Alexis Hall takes these characters.

I loved the first five chapters, there are many laugh out loud moments, as well as some poignant parts. Very much looking forward to reading the whole book in August!

Right from the first chapter this book immediately draws you in. The author did a great job drawing you into the scenes and into the book. I cannot wait to see what the rest of the book has in store!

Thank you to NetGalley for this preview of Chapters 1-5!!

I mean, is there ever a bad time to come back to Luc and Oliver? Oh, how I've missed Luc's neurotic inner-monologue and Oliver's cool and composed support of Luc. In Husband Material, we see Luc and Oliver two years after the end of Boyfriend Material, living their happily ever after. But as much as these two characters grew from each other in their origin story, some of the same insecurities seem to threaten Luc and Oliver's happily-ever-after—including Luc's jerk of an ex-boyfriend, Miles.

To tell the truth, it has taken me reading many of Alexis Hall's books he wrote before Boyfriend Material and Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake to truly appreciate what a nimble and talented writer he is. (And wow, there are A LOT to choose from! "Prolific" barely covers it.) He somehow always manages strike the balance between lighthearted and hilarious (sometimes, even in BF and here again in HM, bordering on slapstick) and poignant, writing some truly beautiful gems that just strike right at your heart. It's what makes his characters so darn lovable and memorable. I cannot wait for the book to be released so I can find out Luc and Oliver's future.

Right off the bat, I want to say that I'm not sure if sequels to romance novels that feature the original couple are my favorite genre. Not because they are inherently bad, but because we end the first book with the couple being incredibly happy, and then we spend most of the sequel watching them struggle. It just doesn't give me the same warm, mushy feelings as I get from standalone romance novels. This was my biggest concern with these first five chapters. I can already see that there is going to be quite a bit of conflict between Luc and Oliver regarding both time and Miles.

Additionally, Miles inviting Luc to his wedding feels unnatural and uncomfortable. Could it happen in real life? Sure. Would it? Unlikely. Personally, I cannot imagine a scenario where Jojo would 1. Learn about Miles actions and be okay with marrying him and 2. Ask him to invite the man he betrayed. As a result, I do think I might struggle to get through this novel. While it might be nice for Luc to get closure, I personally do not care about seeing him resolve things with Miles, and would prefer it if Miles stayed far, far away.

I will say, that I really loved the first book, and I am hooked from the first five chapters in that I do really want to know how everything is resolved and I want to see Oliver and Luc get their true happily ever after, so I do anticipate reading the full story when it is released.

I adored Boyfriend Material, reading it in less than 48 hours, which is no small feat when you're a Mum of two young kids and have a business to run! So I was beyond excited to be able to read the first 5 chapters of Husband Material.

I loved continuing on with Luc and Oliver's love story set 2 years after the ending of Boyfriend Material. It appears that their lives have continued to be drama-filled, thanks to Luc and his bestie, Bridge.

I can not wait to read the rest of the book. To see what happens with Tom and Bridge, whether Luc attends the wedding of Miles and Jojo and what else is in store for Luc and Oliver, who are in my opinion #endgame

Thank you Alexis Hall, Sourcebooks Casablanca and of course, NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read and review Husband Material

This was a wonderful sneak preview of a book that I’ve been highly anticipating. I loved boyfriend material an absurd amount and was so happy to see that we wouldn’t have another book of Luc and Oliver. It was fun to see that Luc’s inner dialogue is still as chaotic and funny as before in the first book. Already I can see that there are going to be issues popping up in their relationship from outside sources as well as anything that goes on in Luc’s head. I’m also intrigued by what I’ve seen of their friends so far because I love them in the last book and I’m looking forward to seeing more of them in this book. I am now even more anxiously awaiting the release of husband material.

I was completely in love with Boyfriend Material from the moment I picked it up, and the sequel looks just as amazing. Alexis Hall's writing style is so quick and fun, and all of the characters are very relatable and human. These few chapters had me giggling like a fool, and I'm so excited to read the rest!

A great preview of the follow-up to Boyfriend Material! Excited to see these characters again, and see their relationship develop further. The supporting characters have a great dynamic, and it was lovely to be back in this world. Looking forward to reading more once out.

The same witty internal monologue and swoony feeling as the first. The first five chapters set up some great internal struggle for Luc and some wonderful support (as always) from Oliver. I cannot wait to read the rest.
