This preview of the sequel to Boyfriend Material was amazing! It teased enough to let us know that although the characters have grown and are in fact boyfriends, there is still work to be done in terms of communicating and having a healthy relationship. One of the aspects I liked most about Boyfriend Material was seeing Luc and Oliver being forced to talk about their feelings with each other, and it looks like that continues in Husband Material.. Can't wait until August!
I absolutely LOVED Boyfriend Material so I was thrilled to get a preview of the sequel! I really like Alexis Hall's writing and these first few chapters have me desperate to know what happens next! I'm so excited about getting my hands on the whole book that I’ve already pre-ordered my copy!
Chapter 1-5 preview was ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This cast of characters absolutely warms my heart. The witty banter. The pick-me-up humor. And now I can’t wait for August for this book to come out!!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC!
Irresistibly hilarious from the very first page! I'm so delighted to be reunited with my favourite fake-boyfriends-turned-real-boyfriends, and I'm more excited than ever to read the whole book!
In this preview of Husband Material, we quickly learn that Luc and Oliver have reached that age where everyone around them are getting married, or getting engaged, or thinking about getting engaged. Luc and Oliver are not engaged (yet?) but their relationship of two years seems to be reaching new levels of stability - so there should be zero issues between them when Luc is confronted with a past trauma that he thought he'd put behind him, and forced to consider the best way forward when no option seems free of regret. Right?
As much as I can see trouble looming on the horizon for Luc and Oliver, I'm so excited that we get more of their story! Alexis Hall has such a good handle on their personalities and their quirks, and that really shines through even in this preview - they're both instantly recognisable from Boyfriend Material, and I'm so stupidly excited to see them again! I've missed Luc's intensely witty humour and Oliver's profound sincerity, and I feel that same sizzling energy between them on the page that I loved so much in the original. Even five chapters in, I'm completely hooked! I can't wait to keep rooting for these two when the full novel is released!

Readers of Boyfriend Material rejoice! Reuniting with Luc's witty inner dialogue and rampant self-doubt, and spending time with his endearing, over-the-top group of friends and coworkers, is as much fun as in the first opus of this series (duology?)

In the first five chapters of Husband Material you'll find:

- a non-gendered-bird do

- the return of CRAPP

- accidental misuse of social media

- ex-boyfriends being as entitled and dickish as ever

- Oliver's amazingness making up for all past dickish ex-boyfriends

- an early 2000s romcom marathon

- and genitalia shaped crochet hats

Luc's voice is, as in the first book, hilarious, witty, and self-deprecating. Alexis Hall has a way of making me snort out loud at every page that makes the opening of Husband Material as addicting as its predecessor. I know a great summer read when I see one... Can't wait for this book release!

Reader, I laughed out loud. These first chapters reminded me of all the reasons I loved Boyfriend Material. Not all of the jokes were funny (the one about Rhys’ OnlyFans account landed with a thud) and I’m worried about Hall’s ability to sustain enough believable conflict between Luc and Oliver to carry an entire novel. They’re supposed to be in a good place (good enough to get married perhaps…?) and even they can only have so many misunderstandings to be tearfully resolved. I was also a bit alarmed to see Oliver going vegan—his character in the first book was some of the most accurate eating disorder representation I’ve seen in genre fiction, and I hope Husband Material can do more with that than a few jokes about beans and tofu. Only time will tell—can’t wait for August 2!
When I saw this suggested I knew I needed to have it! Even if it was just the sample!
But now I regret it because I need more! I need to know they are okay and I need to know where Tom is and I need to know how long till Rhys realises he’s on a porn site!
I missed all the characters and need more!
This was only 4 or 5 chapters but so Hugh has gone on already!
Thank you for netgalley and the publishers for allowing me to read an ARC of this book
Loved the first book in this series and this one is just as good! I need the rest of this book ASAP!
Five chapters were not enough!
Boyfriend Material is one of my favorite books and this early taste of Husband Material by Alexis Hall left me hyped for August.
If the first five chapters are any indication, I'm going to relish this book. Luc and Oliver are back and it feels like catching up with old friends.
One worry I have with sequels is that the characters will regress, or have wholly different personalities. It's clear that these characters remain flawed but determined to display the emotional maturity gained in Boyfriend Material.
As with the first book, Hall has me on the edge of my seat with anticipation to what our loves will get up to in this installment.
What a perfect taste! Boyfriend Material was one of my favorite books that I read in 2021 - it is so fun to be back with Luc and Oliver. CAN"T WAIT FOR THE REST!
I loved Boyfriend Material, so is there any doubt that this preview sampler would be anything less than 5 stars? As much as I loved seeing Luc and Oliver again, the introduction of Miles in the first two chapters is giving me pause-- something is being set up here, and I can't wait to see where Alexis Hall takes us!
I am so excited to read the rest of this book! A lot of romance series will introduce new characters in the second or third book as the lead romantic couple, which is great, but it is also nice to see the story of characters that you loved continued. Definitely looking to finishing this book when it comes out!
I really liked Boyfriend MateriaI and was so excited to see there was going to be a sequel. I was lucky enough to be able to read the first 5 chapters of Husband Material and I can not wait to see where these characters go!!
I am so excited to read the rest of this book! With the first book in the series, Boyfriend Material, having been runner up for my Book of the Year 2021, I expected this book even just the preview to blow my mind. It certainly did not disappoint on any aspect. I can not wait to get my hands on the rest of this book.
they gave us domestic bliss, I had no idea how much I'd missed luc and Oliver it's like going back to your childhood house and using your fav blanket again, it's home it's fun im sure there will be more drama but I for one can't wait to see them again
I missed the window to get my hands on a full ARC for Husband Material but luckily I was able to get a small preview to satiate my hunger for this book.
Falling back in to Luc and Oliver's story has been the best feeling! I've missed these two so much and this preview was 100% not enough to hold me over until August.
First of all, Miles is a prick. I barely know the guy and I hate him with a fiery passion. Second, Jojo could be great but I hate him too. Luc deserves the best and I really hope he and Oliver find the time to have all the wonderful, adorable, coupley dates they want because I want these boys to have a world full of happiness.
This preview was amazing, I'll always be a big fan of Alexis Hall's writing and how witty and fun the characters in this story are. August better come quick!
Husband Material, at least the five chapters I was able to get, are dropping readers immediately back into Luc’s very addled basket case of a brain and I AM HERE FOR IT.
Luc is still struggling. Oliver is still patient, but I’m wondering if that patience is running out?
Already I can see that Hall is dropping major foreshadowing with lines like “no matter how hard I try” and by sliding Miles into two of the five first chapters!
Good lord, I'm so excited for this I can barely put it in words.
With the first book in the series, Boyfriend Material, having been runner up for my Book of the Year 2021, I've got to say my expectations for the sequel are high, but the first five chapters have already knocked it out of the park.
Alexis Hall's humour is incredible, her writing and especially her characters have you hooked from the first page.
If I had to give a single criticism it's that the formatting and font of the text messages makes them a little hard to discern from the normal text, but that's literally the only negative thing I have to say about this.
Also, pro tip: If you're into Audiobooks, Boyfriend Material is on Spotify and Joy Jameson does an incredible job reading it.
