A long awaited read, it was a delight to come back to Luc & Oliver. I only wish that there was more of them to come back to. They're in peak form, Luc still as hilariously and relatably messed up, with Oliver being the steadfastly loyal calm to Luc's chaos. A great read for those who've missed our two guys, but the romance gets lost in the dialogue on the politics of it all.

Coming from someone who has not read boyfriend material this preview hooked me in. I can't wait to read the rest of the book. I am so enthralled by Luc and Olivers relationship. It really makes me want to read the first book and finish this book. I would say it would help to read the first book in this series.

I loved the preview and I am so excited to read more of the book! I need to go buy this as soon as possible. Alexis Hall has such a talent for writing romance.

I absolutely loved this preview! I laughed a lot and it reminded me of how much I laughed during Boyfriend Material. I am so excited to read the rest of Husband Material! Alexis Hall is becoming one of my favourite authors!

Luc sees how everyone around him is getting married and achieving their dreams, so he is beginning to feel the pressure that maybe they should get married too. After 2 years with Oliver, his life has become quiet, although his insecurities have not disappeared.
But when one day he proposes to Oliver, their relationship becomes increasingly strained.

I started with no expectations and found very real situations and characters, conflicts that could exist in any couple you know.

This book retains the essence of the first one by giving us humor, drama, exaggerated situations and all from Luc's POV. The chapters are very short and overall it is entertaining.

I liked the way the author portrays the social pressure of being around 30, getting married and starting a family. How the expectations of others influence life but in the same way how we are all different and everyone is free to choose what makes them happy. The characters matured a lot since the previous one and that is something I highlight, you really feel the passage of time and the advancement of the relationship.

Lots of humor, but some of this was just a little too much. It's hard to buy into the what's happening and still like/root for a lot of the characters.

The first 5 chapters felt somewhat promising but I was also not as enthused about them as I wish I had been. I"ll give them 3 stars because I did feel like continuing after finishing them. What happened next however...

Real Rating: 2.5* of five, rounded up because I'm soft-headed

I GOT A SAMPLE FROM THE PUBLISHER, THEN CHECKED THE WHOLE BOOK OUT OF THE LIBRARY TO BE SURE IT WASN'T A GOOF. IT WASN'T A GOOF.

My Review: Mean-spirited instead of snarky; cruel instead of incisively observed; slightly distasteful because the men aren't even in the same language family, let alone on the same page of the same book. (The Moomin references and the jigsaw scene probably got both whole stars.)

It had a tough act to follow, it's true. I expected much more from [book:Boyfriend Material|50225678]'s sequel. But the only scene that had the same touch as that book was when Luc and Bridget talk through his options before the last chapter.

Saddens me to find the heart of Luc and Oliver's strange brew missing.

It's hard for me to write a review for any Alexis Hall book because all I want to do is just scream about the perfection of everything he writes. I loved everything about Boyfriend Material, and have to admit that I was a tad nervous that another book about Luc and Oliver wouldn't measure up. That was just dumb of me.

Luc and Oliver are talking marriage now, and everything about their journey toward saying 'I do' is perfectly awkward, and comical, and ridiculous, and charming, and heartfelt. There is nothing I could say to do it justice, so just go read it or listen to it on audiobook (honestly, do both) because the narrator for these books is perfection!

Our favorite disaster gays are back! It was wonderful to see the crew again.

That being said. Generally speaking I did enjoy this book, but I liked it less as it went along. Luc's sense of tension, anxiety, and being unsure was a bit too palpable. The first book succeeded because Luc's feelings were portrayed as realistic without being over the top, and I think this one went too far in that regard. There was significantly less humor and significantly more bickering. Like. I get wanting to portray characters as genuine people, but it didn't feel like a book in the same series. This one felt a lot more General Fiction than Romance, if that makes sense. If there are more books in this series, I hope that the natural humor finds its way back. I missed it a lot.

Thank you to NetGalley for a preview copy of the ebook in exchange for an honest review.

This book doesn’t disappoint with the same personality and wit of Boyfriend Material. However, at least in the first 5 chapter preview, I wished there was a bit more of the angst and high stakes of the first book in the series. Looking forward to reading further.

I'm so glad I have a copy of the book, otherwise I don't know how I would be able to wait to continue reading!

So far, it seems like Husband Material is everything I could have wanted out of a sequel. It brings back the same humor and characters, but with a slightly more mature protagonist. I can't wait to see what Alexis Hall has in store for Luc and Oliver!

Alexis Hall can do no wrong. I loved getting to see Luc and Oliver’s story continue and it was just as delightful as expected.

I loved Husband Material so much. It's so fair to have a romance focus on a couple that already got their HEA, and this was incredibly done! It made me so happy to read and I loved seeing how Luc and Oliver dealt with their problems over the years. I also loved how it showed that even though they were in a happy healthy relationship they still had individual issues to work on.
I ended up reading the rest of it before I wrote this review and the one thing I didn't love in just a purely practical sense was that they didn't have a conversation about them wanting to get married. Weddings are expensive and difficult to plan. If they didn't want to be married, why did they wait until the day they were supposed to get married?
But even still this book was incredible and I cannot wait to read more!

Luc and Oliver back again??! Already queued up on Libby to borrow it. Their witty banter is on point as usual.

The good things about this book: the audiobook is narrated by the same very talented actor, who does lots of lovely voices and accents.

The bad things about this book: ...all the rest? I found Luc pretty self-centered in BOYFRIEND MATERIAL, and he certainly hasn't changed. It was weird to me that no one had suggested therapy, and that no one has in the interim, and seeing Luc and Oliver back on the page made me realize just how badly Oliver also needs therapy. The way Luc thinks about Oliver's relationship with his body and with food seems honestly quite harmful to me, and I'm not going to get into the weeds on proper expression of or identification with one's sexual identity and the community that comes with it but I really didn't feel comfortable with the way Luc felt about Oliver not loving the rainbows, et cetera.

It makes a lot of sense to me that many people felt let down by this book - if the first one were one I'd held real close to my heart, I would be disappointed, too. I didn't think BOYFRIEND MATERIAL necessitated a sequel, and this book really proved to me that it didn't. If you were satisfied by the first as a stand-alone, don't waste your time here.

Thank you Sourcebooks and NetGalley for the ARC!

Alexis Hall has knocked it out of the park again. After a breathtakingly good story of love, friendship, and family in ‘Boyfriend Material’, the sequel is poised to be just as funny, thoughtful, heartfelt, nail-bitingly tense, and incredible. I’ve never felt more connected to a pair of fictional people and I can’t wait to see what shenanigans Luc and Oliver get up to in this book. Can’t wait to read the rest!

This was exactly as I expected, Perfect!❤️
A little disappointed with the ending, but In a way, it was more olive and Luc and also perfect.
I'm deep into Oliver and Luc and other side characters. such beautiful relationships where they communicate, and have flaws.
P.S: Oliver and Luc having their pretty woman experience is probably my fav scene everr😍😍😍
And we are getting book 3, honestly what more do you want?

Husband Material was sweet just like Boyfriend Material, but is it a book I would pick up over and over, to reread? Probably not! There are a lot of great things this book is doing. However, I wasn’t sitting at the edge of my seat or never wanting to put the book down.
