This chapters were so good! I want to read this book so much, and also the first one Boyfriend Material because I'm idiotic and didn't know this was the second book in the Boyfriend Material Saga. However, while I wait to this book being released I can read the first and make time. Go go go!
The sequel to my all time favorite romance book! I loved all the characters in the first book and have legitimately missed them so I couldn’t wait to dive back into Luc and Oliver’s lives. This was such a perfect taste of what’s to come and I am counting down the days until I get my hands on the full book!
oml these chapters!! the character dynamics are still SO spot on, the characters growth from the last book is still there, but they’re still growing and learning, this is going to be such an amazing read i can already tell!!
If I wasn't desperately excited about 'Husband Material' before, I certainly am now! I have missed Lucien and Oliver - their witty dynamic is back in full force. Alexis Hall retains the funniest bits from the first novel, such as the 'hilarious' jokes in the office which never land the way they should, as well as throwing plenty of new drama into the mix in these first five chapters. My copy is on order- bring on August!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher who provided an ARC of the first five chapters of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Okay. Alright. I just read the first five chapters (preview via netgalley) and I am ajksdfhjsdk in the sense that I cannot wait for August and missed these fools a lot more than I thought I did. Boyfriend Material was one of my favourite 2020-reads and I think Husband Material is set to be a 2022-favourite. Luc is the best disaster in the universe and the humour is spot on.
Oh, I missed Luc and all his CRAPP!! The anxiousness, the colorful troupe of friends, the weird jokes, the snarkyness, the overthinking, oh and the amazing barrister boyfriend, of course! The sweet awkwardness of being in love and how that doesnt solve Luc's personal problems is so real and perfect. I can't wait to find out who proposes to whom and how funny and imperfect and sweet it will be.
Alexis Hall did it again. Husband Material is already preordered and I will (not so) patiently wait for it.
This preview was just a brief taste of the hilarity, thoughtfulness, and breadth of emotion to be found in any of Alexis Hall’s books, and I am confident that Husband Material will not disappoint. From the very first page, the story takes off running with these fascinating disasters of characters, And I admit, I cheered when chapter two started with an “Okay, Alex.”
Looking forward to release day with great anticipation.
Boyfriend material was one of my favourite books in 2020, so I was super excited to get this preview copy. And let me tell you- it did NOT disappoint. I'm almost certain that Husband Material would be my favourite this year!
The book so far has been so laugh-out-loud funny that I was surprised! Oliver is just the purest person and Luc is so dramatic. My favourite kind of people!
I can't wait to read the rest of the book!
That gif of Invader Zim yelling, "I HAVE A MIGHTY NEED!" That was me before, during, and after reading this preview. Husband Material starts off with a hilarious scene of the caliber readers expect from Alexis Hall, and by the end of chapter 5 we're into the angst and Lucien's self-fulfilling fear of screwing up. From the first chapters alone, it's already obvious that Husband Material is going to be an epic 2022 read you won't want to miss.
I loved this so much! The humour was on point, and I just realized how attached I am to the side characters? I swear I was very sad about the news. I hope I can see more of how the 'being mature' works out for the protagonists!
I read Boyfriend Material for the first time last summer, so these characters (and their voices) are fairly fresh in my mind. What struck me here was the way AJH was able to so seamlessly dive back into this world even though, I believe, some time had passed between writing BM and this one. The characters, their personalities, and Luc's narrative voice is captured here exactly as it was in BM. And though two years has passed, in a way it feels like we're picking up with these guys right where we left off. If the mission here was to make the reader feel like they are visiting with old friends, then mission accomplished. I think we're in for a real treat with this one!
I loved reading the 1st five chapters of Husband Material. I was scared that since this book was written a while after the first, the characters will loose their voice. Atleast in the first chapter, luc seemed way too put together than Boyfriend Material. But I appreciate the character arc for sure. This book is set after two years and we do change as people in healthy relationships for better. I can’t wait to read the rest of the book and see what happens with Luc and Oliver.
Fantastic! This book is going to be one of my favorite books of the year! This was only a preview so I don't know the ending but I loved getting to go back and visit some of my friends and see what happens to them after the end of Boyfriend Material!
This preview of the first 5 chapters was perfect! It was very easy to remember all the characters and details from the previous book. The writing was amazing as Alexis Hall balances the line between witty and serious very well. This book is also appropriately paced, with just enough buildup to the main bulk of the plot. I cannot wait to read the rest of the book in August.
So much fun to catch up with Oliver and Luc again. They are such a good couple and finding out hwo they will tackle challenges in a new phase of their relationship is exactly what I want to read about. Looking forward to laughing and crying through this sequal!
This was fantastic! I literally cannot wait for this book to come out. Luc and Oliver’s love story is so wholesome and this series always has me laughing out loud!
I missed Luc and Oliver so much, 5 pages in and i'm already swooning and laughing. I'm so invested I need to read this whole book right now.
This book carries the vibe from the OG Boyfriend Material. We find Oliver being sexually dominant, Brigette being panicky and the Jameses continue their double names. The first book was a big hit in our retail space and queer book clubs of all ages really enjoyed it. II can't wait to share the sequel. Also, how brilliant is it that the series is called London Calling?
I don't know how he does it, but Alexis Hall strikes again. This is just a preview but the conflict is set up beautifully, it's hilarious from page 1, and I'm way too excited about seeing some old side characters. As always, I wish we had a dual POV but I'm definitely going to be picking this up when it's published. Very Bridget Jones vibes, but make it gay and PC. Love it
Pros: I am a new reader to the romance genre, so I am thrilled to have the opportunity to sample a book. I'm still learning the subgenres and tropes and figuring out my favorites. I saw the author's first book in the series Boyfriend Material EVERYWHERE when it came out. At the time, I didn't think I liked romance novels, so I didn't read it. Now after reading the sample of the sequel, I know I need to go back and read the first book--I love a British rom com!
Cons: This is not a con of the book but a note about the sample: It would have been great to have a note on NetGalley that this is the second book in a series.
Thank you to NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca for the opportunity to sample this book!
