Reading the five-chapter preview of Husband Material feels like hugging tight a very dear friend after not having seen them in a while. And within just a few minutes of reconnecting, you’re reminded again— as if you could ever forget —that said friend is hilarious but sincere, sweet but uncompromising, romantic but real. You're reminded of all the reasons why you became very good friends in the first place.
Gods, how I have missed insecure, self-deprecating, endearingly awkward Luc; supportive, overly reasonable, and charmingly stoic Oliver; and all their adorably crazy and quirky friends. I’m just so happy to be with them again that I just can’t stop smiling. To say that I can’t wait to read the entirety of Husband Material would be an understatement.
Beyond overjoyed of this sequel as we have been quite attached to the characters ! It reads and feels the same, like a coming home part! Really can’t wait to get my eyes on the rest!
This book is different from the rest (for me from this author) because they usually are about meetings and first times and developing relationships, and now he has done a beautiful job on an already existing relationship, with all of its comfort, habits and remaining uncertainties with characters still developing, still maturing and dealing with their past. It is different! Hilarious, and splendid.
The first five chapters determined the pace and left so many questions
What is the weak link in their relationship ?
How will Luc and Oliver grow together and individually by the end of the book?
How come the picture of Tom isn’t with Niall?(filthy bisexuals…) :p
Who will get married?
Will Oliver’s parents accept a brutally honest boyfriend at some point?
Is John Flemming going to properly die this time?
Too many questions, yet one certainty that the author will deliver!
“Husband Material” is the sequel to the very popular “Boyfriend Material” and picks up two years in the future. Lucien and Oliver are in love but still have some things to iron out on their way to happily ever after.
The writing here definitely has the same feel and tone as the first book; funny but also heartwarming and emotional. A must read for fans of “Boyfriend Material.”
HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO WAIT TILL AUGUST TO READ THE REST?!!!!
I NEED MORE RIGHT NOW, PLEASE I BEG YOU!!!
This was a wonderful teaser to an anticipated sequel. The author brought back the same banter and humor to the characters and relationship as well as an emotional depth. Luc dealing with the joys and stresses of a long term relationship in the face of friends getting married and an ex getting married make for an interesting dynamic. I’m looking forward to seeing how the conflict that’s starting in these early chapters plays out between Luc and Oliver and how it will resolve itself in the end. I do love this author’s work and am looking forward to the full book.
WOW did I miss these characters.
Luc is still just as witty and funny as ever, but with the added bonus of being more self-aware and kind to himself. Gotta love that character development. I’m very intrigued to see how Oliver is handling his family and life in general. I know a few issues were brought up at the end of the last novel, so I’m hoping things have gotten a bit better for him. I’m glad to see that he and Luc seem happy together. I was full on clutching my chest at the domesticity of it all.
Absolutely cannot wait for August!
I am absolutely STARVING for more!
Alexis Hall is one of my favorite authors and at the top of my list of autobuy authors - deservedly so. Reading a preview of Husband Material immediately felt like coming home. Even from the first page, Hall's voices shines through. It's witty and clever and has Luc's self-deprecating voice that I love with my whole heart. I've missed them terribly,I love recognising Hall's voice and knowing that there will always be this voice to return to for comfort and joy. What a wonderful voice to know. Its so good to be back.
These first five chapters have me so excited for reading the full Husband Material book later this year! Alexis Hall has done a great job writing more Luc and Oliver magic again. Boyfriend Material was one of my favorite books and I can tell that the sequel will be right up there, too.
This is an amazing book and just much as an instant hook in as the first book.
It is everything you'd expect from the amazing Alexis Hall and so much more! I can't wait to the read the entire book now that I've got a taste of it!
Luc and Oliver, I'm rooting for yall!
Woah! Husband Material is going to be so good.
From what little bit I did read wasn't enough.
I can't wait to read the full book!
From this preview, it seems Husband Material will have all the same magical elements that drew me to Boyfriend Material. Specifically, I love that both romantic and platonic relationships in this book are detailed with such care, with realistic challenges for these relationships to overcome. In short, this has made me even more excited for the release of this book and I can't wait to see more of Luc and Oliver's adorable relationship.
I missed Oliver and Luc! I can already tell this book is going to have everything I loved about Boyfriend Material plus more. I can’t wait to read the rest!
Eeeee!! It’s almost cruel how great this was. I cannot wait to read the full thing. I love Luc and Oliver so much. This preview was also a good reminder that I absolutely need to re-read Boyfriend Material because I couldn’t remember any of their friends and we kind of dive right in.
I'm reading the sample chapters from NetGalley and my heart is so full. It's so funny and so heart-breaking and so beautifully soft. I'm living for Oliver's protective mean streak, and Luc is such a sweet mess and trying so hard. I love how complex everyone is and how even when everyone is trying their best, the past finds a way to creep in and cause problems. I can't wait til summer! ^-^"
Just finished this, and I truly cannot wait until August for the whole book!! Voice-wise, AJH jumped right back into the character of Luc -- it sounds just like him, and his growth feels realistic for a two-year gap. Matured, but with new struggles that bring up a few of the same issue's he has always had. I love being with the whole gang again!!
Because this was just a sample of the first five chapters my review wont be that long. I adored the first book so as soon as I saw that the preview was available I downloaded it. This preview has me extremely excited for this book to come out. I don't think I will be able to wait till August to find out what happens next with Luc and Oliver. I cant wait to see were their relationship goes.
Thank you to Sourcebooks and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review
I missed these two so much and this preview already had me cackling. and then screaming when it ended because I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS WHEN IS THE FULL BOOK GOING UP ON NETGALLEY WHEN?!?
Thanks to Netgalley and Sourcebooks for posting the first five chapters up as a preview. The preview made me so happy and so sad at the same time.
Super happy because Oh man have I been waiting so long for this book. And the first few chapters got me right back into the characters I love and just yay!!
But I am sad because the wait feels even longer now!! Ahhhhhh.
I have preordered both the ebook and paperback versions and this preview made me so glad I did.
This too short preview is everything that I want in Husband Material, and I can’t wait to read the rest of the book as soon as humanly possible. Luc and Oliver are adorably Luc and Oliver-ish in every way. Even the secondary characters, from Luc’s CRAPP co-workers to his closest friends had me laughing loud enough to startle my dog.
I underestimated how much I adore being back in the Boyfriend Material world. Alexis Hall is a master at creating the perfect blend of banter and emotional struggles. I can’t wait to read the rest of this book!
Perfection. Absolute perfection. I didn't think I could be more excited for this book than I already was. Alexis Hall has seamlessly fallen back into the BM universe and hit the ground running.
This preview was such a treat. Reading this was like throwing a favorite blanket around myself and enjoying that cozy familiar warmth. All the characters we loved from BM are here again in perfect form and I cannot wait for August!!
