Such a promising start for a book that I am awaiting patiently. I can tell this book will have its own twist, turns, and that humour that we all adore, so excited to read the complete book!
I loved being able to join Luc & Oliver's world again along with their quirky gang of friends. The preview left me wanting more & wondering how they were going to get close to goimg down the aisle like the title of the book says.
My favorite criminal defence barrister is back!!! And my favorite chaotic mess!
I JUST finished reading Husband Material, sadly, because I didn’t want it to end, so I am really up in my feels right now and my thoughts about this book are racing. Overall, this book just made be so happy, feel so comfy, and also laugh out loud so much I was reading passages aloud to my husband. It’s of course rare for a couple’s story to be continued in a follow up book after the first HEA/HFN, but I’m so glad Alexis Hall let us visit with these two again, and the continuation of their story was done is such a skillful, creative way. I’m so glad they’ll have at least a third book, because I would gladly read one million of their stories. I LOVE Four Weddings and a Funeral (the movie, and the short lived Hulu series, which I am BEGGING @hulu to bring back), so this concept just filled me with joy. But this book is not without tension - once Luc and Oliver decide to get married, and the wedding-preparation-train is in full motion, I was thrown right back into the horrible feelings of stress I had when planning my own wedding. This book was such a thoughtful exploration of what weddings v. marriage v. relationships/love (in various forms) mean to different people. Just really brilliantly done, and I’ll be mulling over everything in this book for a long time. So far, probably my favorite book of 2022!
So, as for some random Romancelandia Criminal Justice Reform thoughts (some light spoilers, but I’m really trying to keep it as vague as possible):
An early on joke about a bus conductor sentenced to be executed manges to bring about this little kernel of enlightenment from Ryhs, which foreshadows later events: “That’s the problem with the criminal justice system. The rich and powerful, well, they can get away with anything.”
Luc, Oliver, and Luc’s coworkers do then have their own criminal justice run-in on the way to one of the weddings, and it’s a very clear analysis and acknowledgement of how their privilege gets them out of the situation.
Throughout the book, Oliver continues to educate people on the realities of the criminal justice system just as he did in the first book, and it just continues to melt my heart. And in one moment of foreplay, Oliver tells Luc, “Be Gay. Do Crimes.” I died.
You know I love a good scene of a criminal defence lawyer having to explain their job. There was a great one of these scenes in Boyfriend Material. And Oliver once again has a banger explanation for someone in this book, when someone suggests that his career is a bit “dodgy”!
Alexis Hall's follow up to "Boyfriend Material" was worth the wait! "Husband Material" reunites readers with Luc and Oliver.
This was the preview only – love Luc and Oliver and getting a peek had me so excited for the full novel!
This was a sample only - I have requested and will review the complete book.
This is a rating for feedback only and does not reflect my enjoyment of the actual book.
A good start to the story with great banter. I'm going to order the book in audio because the narrator is so great. Fingers crossed things go smoothly for this couple as I don't like it when established couples get split up and then come back together.
I loved this preveiw. Boyfriend Material was one of my favourtie books fo 2020 and I was happy to be back with the boys, Luc and Oliver. the dialogueI was amazing and I am so ready for the full book to see what happens next!
Alexis Hall is the funniest author alive, probably. Returning to my favorite characters and the running gags that made me love Boyfriend Material put the biggest smile on my face. This series truly exemplifies the best of queer literature — I'm going to devour the rest of this book.
I was not expecting this kind of start, but it's definitely on brand! I really missed all of these quirky characters, the amazing dialogue, and it's sounds like there's going to be A LOT of wedding drama in here. Can't wait to read it all
Back with Luc and Oliver, 2 years after Boyfriend Material. Husband Material is just as laugh out loud funny as it’s successor.
Just as obsessed with this one (so far) as I was with Boyfriend Material. Can't wait to read the full thing :)
It feels so good to be back in this world with Luc and Oliver, I missed them so much. Our book club will be reading Boyfriend Material in September just in time to pick this long awaited sequel. Can’t wait!
All I can say is that I am beyond excited for the release of this book! This teaser just elevates my excitement! So cruel!
I loved, loved , loved this preview very much.
I heard about the book before and was already interested in reading it. But after loving this excerpt so much I will read this book for sure.
As far as I'm concerned, there is no such thing as enough Oliver and Luc. I'm very excited to read the full version of this book after reading the preview.
This is my review for the first five chapters!
Trigger Warnings: alcohol, cursing, cheating
Representation: Gay, Lesbian, South Asian, throuple, Bisexual
Husband Material is the sequel to Boyfriend Material. We pick up 2 years after the first book at Bridget’s hen party. Oliver and Luc are still together and thriving in their respective jobs. When Bridget calls one night in shock, Luc is by her side to help her through what could be the worst night of her life.
I have thoroughly enjoyed being back in this world! I think this preview has made me even more ready to read the sequel and hate the cliffhanger it provided! So far both men continue to be the men I fell in love with the first time around and the additional stress of Miles adds a fun twist!
This snippet of the continuation of Luc and Oliver’s story leaves me excited for more of the story. It’s never fun to receive a wedding announcement from someone you thought was part of your past, but having a wonderful partner to go through that experience with makes things a little easier. This is the case with Luc and Oliver. I can’t wait to see how this story plays out in full.
I loved this preview, so happy to be back in the company of Boyfriend Material's Luc and Oliver. Can't wait to read the whole thing.
I have not read the first book but reading this preview just made me want to read the two books now. I cannot wait to read this completely. Hope it would be available locally by then.
