Alexis Hall has a writing style that is engaging from page 1, so I knew a preview would be worthwhile. I was glad to see a continuation to Boyfriend Material!
I love Alexis Hall and his writing so much and I'm so glad he's giving more story to Luc and Oliver!
I cannot wait to read the full version of this one! Super cute book,
Amazing characters! I’m looking forward to the full story.
Even in this short preview, we are reminded of the created characters created by Alexis Hall. The writing is well-paced and keeps the reader feeling engaged and interested. We get to see a small glimpse into what I'm sure will be an amazing full-length novel.
This preview continues the great chemistry shown in Boyfriend Material. It is difficult to rate the book as a whole off just a few chapters but based on this sample I will definitely be checking out the full book.
The first book was one of my all time favourite romances and this is gearing up to be another favourite. I love the writing and the characters and the setting. Can’t wait to see where this goes.
This is simply a preview, so I won't be posting this review elsewhere, but it definitely made me want to read the whole book!
These are only the first five chapters of Alexis Hall's new book, Husband Material. Reading these chapters was like falling into a conversation with a best friend you haven't seen in years. I was screaming with delight from page one. I cannot wait to get my hands on the rest of the book. Hall pulls you in from page one and I was instantly rooting for Luc!
Super interesting start and I’m really excited to see what happens after this! I really enjoyed the first book so I have high expectations for the sequel.
This was a preview for the first 5 chapters of Husband Material. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the book and seeing how Oliver and Luc's story continues!
Really interesting start to the book. I cant wait to see how the rest of this one goes, but i have super high hopes
This teaser is absolutely brilliant. I need to read the whole book straight away. Urgh I missed Luc and Oliver and this seems like the fitting sequel to 'Boyfriend Material'. I love it.
This sneak peek into Husband Material was complete & total perfection with a return of all the characters we know & love from Boyfriend Material. Just want to give Luc and Oliver a hug and I enjoyed being able to visit them and all their friends again. A perfect continuation of Luc and Oliver's story, I cannot wait to read the rest. Pre-order: CHECK!
Thank you to NetGalley, Sourcebooks Casablanca, and of course, Alexis Hall for this sneak peak!
This made me so excited for the full book! I can't wait for August to read more of the story, I love Luc and Oliver so much!
I'm very excited to see what happens with the rest of this book! I really enjoyed the first one and was slightly apprehensive of the idea of a sequel but will definitely be reading it in August!
This was a preview for the first 5 chapters of Husband Material. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the book and seeing how Oliver and Luc's story continues!
In a completely unsurprising discovery, this book is looking absolutely fantastic. Alexis Hall's humor shines through every little detail, from the crotched vulva hat to the gender-neutral bird do.
In this preview of Husband Material, the sequel to Boyfriend Material, our favorite disaster gay Luc (who is no longer such a disaster because of character development!) is throwing his best friend Bridget a bachelorette party. He then runs into his infamous ex (yes, the one who sold all the private details of their relationship to a tabloid magazine for money), and said terrible ex introduces him to his fiance and has the gall to invite him to their wedding (cue your favorite Olivia Rodrigo song). Between the drama, we get snippets of his fabulous queer chosen family friend group, the respectable barrister boyfriend Oliver's gentle support, and some serious best friend bonding. Basically, it's everything you (well, at least I) loved about Boyfriend Material.
It's worth noting that this book will have four weddings and a funeral. Yes, like the movie (obviously gayer) but we don't yet know who the funeral will be for or how the plot will be similar (other than the ratio of weddings to funerals) and how it will differ. This will haunt you (if you happen to be me. I just really need the rest of the book, in my hands, right now. Did pre-order it as soon as I could? Yes. Should you also pre-order it? Undoubtedly. But maybe read the first book first, if you haven't already.)
It's hard to write a review based on just a preview of a book but this preview does what a preview should: grabs your attention immediately, makes you invested in the story, and then ends at a very suspenseful spot where you will scream into the wind about how badly you need to read the entire book.
The drama is back again! I enjoyed the preview. The jokes between Lucien and Oliver are still there and the hilarity of Alex is still apparent. I love the fact that we get an extended chance to see into their mismatched (personality wised) lifestyle. Most books of this caliber do not continue to go into the main characters relationship and I am so glad that the author choose to continue this. Since this is a preview, I noticed that there will be some laughing and some make-ups for Bridget, Lucien, and Oliver,
However, while reading the preview I noticed that there were a few spelling mistakes, and a couple grammar mistakes such as spacing issues and dashes not being included. They were not highly noticeable, but for me I noticed them immediately. I hope that the full version coming out will have those corrections in them. As I was not able to obtain the full advanced copy, I cannot say if those mistakes were fixed or not.
Overall, the preview was great. It really was that, a preview to what will happen in the book and to build a little suspense in what will happen between the characters.
I want MORE. I loved the first book so much and was so excited when I heard there would be a sequel. This little preview had so excited and now I want the rest of it!
Following the sharp and very funny Boyfriend Material, Husband Material does not disappoint. It is lovely to see how Luc and Oliver’s relationship has continued to grow and strengthen but in a realistic way with challenges to overcome. I love the setting (very British) and the humor. A very fun read!
