Terminus

[Blurb goes here]

While the story is interesting, I didn't care much for the main character...or the rest of the ensemble. The individuals portrayed in Terminus seemed to me, to be just paper thin cutouts. There has to be some sort of empathy between the reader and the protagonist, unfortunately this guy was written without a soul or even a compelling back story.

Now, this is only my personal opinion, I'm sure that other readers will be able to enjoy Terminus way more than I did.

I really enjoyed this book. Matt is a likeable protagonist, despite being an unemployed drug addict, with very questionable judgement. He gets naively drawn into a power struggle between two drug lords in a dystopian near future city with extreme economic disparity between social classes. He is precariously existing in the green/rich zone, but spends increasing amounts of time in the more poor and dangerous yellow and red zones. He seems to have no prospects for employment, and is not even seeking a job, though he's got to be burning through his savings living in the green zone without one. He seems to be in a depressed state, though that isn't outright. Without purpose or decent friends, he's very vulnerable when he meets and becomes involved with a mysterious and alluring cult member representing the newest drug, Peace. This all seems like there's no possible good outcome, but things turn out much better than expected! The book comes to a very satisfying if slightly improbable conclusion, loose ends nicely tied up, no frustrating teasers.

PS - NetGalley is "Unable to find book with ISBN "3101202217483" on Goodreads."

This book was so cleverly structured and bursting with intrigue. The world caught my eye, and I found it fascinating as we find out bits and pieces throughout the story, especially at the beginning. It wasn’t info dumped though, more cleverly slotted into the narrative so it didn’t slow the story down.

The plot was unique and so well put together. I loved the idea of the world being split into zones to keep people safe. And I loved the mystery and creation of the drug Peace. I almost wanted to head into the red zone, just to read about what it was like. I wanted to learn everything I could about the world, even if it would put me on edge!

Although I loved the world, I struggled to relate to the characters, and it took me almost half the book to care about what happened to them. And even then, I could survive not knowing.

I’m on the fence about this one. However, it was still worth a read and I wouldn’t hesitate to check out more from the author in the future. Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and author, for a chance to read and review this book.
