Lawyer and "boyfriend"

Cass Walker had just passed the bar exam when she was in a car accident and then woke up in the hospital after being in a coma for six days. She expected her boyfriend Devin to be by her side but she finds out that everyone else thinks Devin is a figment of her imagination - even though she remembers the most minor details about him.

Fast forward a year. Cass is working as a Summer Associate at an esteemed law firm in Cleveland when she stops by a flower shop and runs into...Devin, who's never seen her before, and his brother, the owner of the flower shop.

I enjoyed this story, with its twists and turns, and I loved the way it turned out. No spoilers here. Guess you'll have to read it to find out.

I highly recommend this book.

I received this advanced reading copy from Gallery Books through Net Galley in the hopes that I would read it and leave an unbiased review.

Dream On by Angie Hockman
Contemporary romance.
After waking from a coma, Cass remembers a relationship that never actually happened. Resigning herself to recovery, she restarts a Summer Associate job hoping for a job offer and moves in with a long time friend. An impulsive flower purchase sparks a flirty conversation and a shocking meeting of the man from her false memories.

Cass and Devin start a relationship based on attraction and her memories. She becomes involved with work and community.
I loved this story. But it’s hard to review without spoilers.
I felt that first spark of attraction and interest. I felt the lack of depth and connection in the relationship with Devon. I admired Cass and her ultimate decisions. I figured out the Sadie connection long before the reveal.
One of those sigh worthy romance endings.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley. I can’t wait to share this with romance bookclubs.

I’ll be honest: it was the adorable and colorful cover that caught my eye, and then the absolutely bonkers description pulled me in. While I had some quibbles with the plot, it’s very entertaining and I could easily imagine this being a blockbuster rom-com movie.

“So I’m the man of your dreams?”
A breathy laugh escapes me. “Kind of.”
“Okay then.”

Cass has it all. She has a loving boyfriend, she just passed the bar, and she already has a job offer at one of the most prestigious law firms in Cleveland. Until she’s in a car accident and ends up in a coma for nearly a week. Luckily, she’s set to make a full, if difficult, recovery, but there’s something terribly wrong. The problem? She doesn’t actually have a boyfriend. As far as she can tell, Devin Bloom never existed. After months of recovery, Cass is set to start a summer internship at the law firm in hopes of landing the full-time position in the fall, when she wanders into a flower shop and meets Devin – who has no idea who she is.

The book is told from Cass’s first person POV. At the beginning of the book, there’s no question that she’s struggling but trying to keep herself together. Even months after the accident, she still has some trouble with her memory and her mother seems determined to coddle her forever. She’s stressed about the new job and whether she can handle it, but the worst of all are the lingering memories of all her dates with someone who doesn’t exist. And then she meets Devin. For his part, Devin takes it pretty well once Cass (almost immediately) explains the whole coma/imaginary boyfriend thing. Plus it’s clear she really does know things about him that a stranger – or even a decent stalker – wouldn’t. But she and Devin’s brother Perry, the owner of the florist shop, get off on completely the wrong foot. He’s very suspicious about the whole thing, though he does eventually come around, even apologizing with a lovely bouquet. I liked the rest of the side characters, especially Cass’s best friend and roommate Brie (and their landlord, Marcus).

“After a week—or two, if the flowers are ours—the blooms fade, and what was once a beautiful bouquet shrivels up and dies. But the act of giving someone even a small slice of beauty, and the thoughtfulness behind the gesture . . . that’s permanent. That’s what I love about my job. Being a florist means celebrating the interconnectedness between people and the brief bouts of beauty in a world with too much ugliness.”

The premise is absolutely fascinating and the author’s handling of it was superb. The plot never went in the direction I expected. There’s some chit chat about fate and kismet and the like. Brie believes there’s a scientific reason for it: Cass must have met Devin at some point before, she just doesn’t remember it. Marcus, their landlord, is more inclined to believe it’s fate, with all the obligatory jokes about Devin being the man of her dreams. For my part, I had a lot of fun coming up with theories, none of which ended up being right!

As for cons, I’m not a fan of love triangles, even ones where it’s glaringly obvious which one the person will end up with. I think it was handled very well, but it still dimmed my enjoyment of the book. My second quibble was that Cass’s main competition for the full time lawyer position was, well, a very unfriendly woman. She was deliberately shown as cut-throat and manipulative, in contrast to Cass’s repeated friendly interactions with her, and honestly? That whole plotline left a sour feeling in my stomach.

As far as steam, there’s not much except some kissing until the epilogue. It’s not that I’m complaining about it being a mostly low heat book – frankly given all of Cass’s turmoil, it’s very understandable – but I found it really odd to have a sole sex scene in the epilogue. It’s honestly a complaint that could be made about the last 10% or so of the book. There’s a lot of “coincidences” and things are wrapped up much too neatly and quickly. Sure, it’s sweet, but it definitely challenged my suspension of disbelief.

Overall, an entertaining book, and I’ll probably try something by the author again, though hopefully without my least favorite trope!

This book was adorable, and also a really fast read. I couldn't put it down! We go from seeing MC Cass pass her bar exam and ready to work on her career goals, to waking up after a 6-day coma following a car accident. Her recovery is long and difficult, especially because she woke up looking for her boyfriend...who apparently doesn't exist? EXCEPT YES HE DOES! Ahhhhh this book was so cute.

Okay, so, some of the "twists" could be seen coming from a mile away, BUT, I still really enjoyed the rom-com feel of the book. I thought the writing was great- I could easily picture it all in my mind. I don't want to talk about all of the characters because it would give too much away. But let me just say, I love a smart, female MC who gets to show off her intelligence in the story. Also, love a store with a dog- adorable.

My only real issue is that there is no sexy times. To me, that can always add to the romance. They should have gotten it on. But, fine. Angie Hockman left that out for whatever reason and I still liked the book! Looking forward to her next novel.

I adored Shipped and had high hopes for Dream On - thankfully it didn't disappoint! I usually shy away from love triangles but this one worked for me and I loved Cass and Devin. There was a side plotline that didn't sit well with me so that's why I'm giving it three stars. But definitely some cute moments, especially if you're looking for a lighter rom com this summer.

Cass wakes up from a coma thinking she’s in a serious relationship with a man named Devin. The only problem is that he does not exist. At least he doesn’t seem to until she runs into him a year later in a flower shop. Cass comes to realize that the man of her dreams might not be the love her life when she starts to fall for Devin’s brother. This was such a fun read! If you’re a fan of While You Were Sleeping you will love this one! Thank you Netgalley and Gallery Books for the egalley in exchange for my honest review.

This book was super cute! The romance was perfect and I really enjoyed the whole story.

I really loved Cass's back story of her accident and the mystery of what happened and how she remembers Devin. Along with her accident, it was really interesting to see how she navigated the struggles she had and also how she came to term with the accident throughout the story.

When it comes to the love story, I really really enjoyed the plot of it. It very much gave me Salvatore brother vibes, so say no more.. i was hooked. I felt for both of the love interests but then there was a clear winner for Cass (and me lol) at the end. Another thing that I loved about the story was that the romance was strong throughout but there were a lot of other smaller things going on that made it even more enjoyable and just a well-rounded romance book.

I can't wait to read more from this author.

I happily give this book 4.5/5 fun stars rounded up.

Well, it's official... Angie Hockman has quickly become one of my favorite, must-buy RomCom authors. Dream On is sweet, unique, romantic and completely adorable. Is it predictable? Absolutely. However, it's full of likable characters with endearing personalities, who you will be happy to root for page after page. I loved it!

A huge thanks to Gallery Books and NetGalley for the advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

It’s official, Angie Hockman is now on my auto buy author list!

I loved her debut, Shipped, that I always describe to people as the Unhoneymooners and The Hating Game had a baby. (LOVE IT!)

And now, we have Dream On which is perhaps the most original romcom I have read in ages. I laughed, I stressed, I had tears of joy, and I really loved this story.

Cass is a new attorney struggling to find her way in life after her accident. This story along with being a tale of people finding each other, also explores what we need in our lives to be happy. Is it getting the job we thought we wanted? What happens when our dreams turn out to be not what we expected?

In walks dream boy that Cass woke up from her Coma believing was her boyfriend… but things aren’t always as they appear and not all dreams are what we think.

This one does have a love triangle which so normally don’t like, but Hockman did this book in such a way that it all works and is tied up nice into a little bow.

There are twists and turns and I was literally on the edge of my seat trying to sort out how it would all come together but it all worked perfectly!

I highly recommend this one to all fans of romcoms and to anyone who has had a dream that didn’t pan out to be all that they thought it would be.

Dream On was contemporary romance that had a love triangle and slow burn. It was really hard to get into this one and I was as confused as Cass. It didn’t flow as well as I’d liked and the romance made me crazy. It does have a HEA!
I loved the ending so I’m giving it a 3.5 ⭐️.

I haven't read the author's book Shipped but you better believe I will after finishing this one! I really enjoyed it and can't wait to see what else there is by her.

Eeekk! I adored this book! I read it while at the beach and it was the perfect light and romantic read for the occasion. It was totally pretty, but the journey to get to the HEA was fab!
Cass had a car crash and wakes up from her coma looking for/remembering her boyfriend Devon. But no one in her life knows of his existence. Did she dream him up? She thinks maybe she did since there’s no trace of him in her life anywhere. She starts her recovery and heads back to work as a lawyer working her way up the corporate ladder, but she doesn’t find it as fulfilling as she expected that it would. When she stops to pick up some flowers one day after work, everything changes when she actually runs into Devon and they try to figure out how they know each other because he has never seen her before despite her memories. Devon’s brother Perry runs the flower shop where she met Devon, but it’s going under and he needs her help to save it. In the process, she realizes it’s not Devon who captured her heart and mind, but Perry.
Super cute and flirty and full of self empowerment which I loved. I can see this being a but hit this summer and maybe even a lifetime movie.

After enjoying Hockman’s last book, Shipped, I was looking forward to this one, and it did not disappoint! I enjoyed the plot, characters, and setting. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

First off: I LOVED this book. Shipped was cute, and I did enjoy it – especially for a debut, but this book hit my heart in a unique way and I’m still thinking about it days later.

While this book does start off with the slightly cliché trope of waking up from a coma confused … this one comes with a twist: Cass wakes up with NEW memories. She’s not missing anything from her past, but she has imagined an entire boyfriend by the name of Devin who never existed.

Well, until he does. She runs into him a year later by accident after, well, running into his brother at the local flower shop.

And once she gets him to hear her out? They kind of hit it off and start dating for real! Then the question turns to whether or not her coma-induced dreams were fated for her to end up with Devin… that is until her heart starts leaning in another direction.

This book was wonderful, and as much as I love the tropes involved, I honestly loved the characters most. Cass had her flaws, and that’s part of what I loved about her. She made mistakes, seemed a bit over the top at points, and was trying to recover from trauma and a major upheaval to her life and goals… But overall I loved her, and her friendships, and I loved how she didn’t seem afraid to be herself wherever she went.

This book is wonderful and I truly urge you to give it a read if you’re looking for a lighthearted and heartwarming read.

DNF at 36%. I love love love hearing stories of people experiencing what seems like a glitch in the matrix or a slip between different realities. So the premise of this drew me right in - Cassie wakes up from a coma after a car accident and is asking for her boyfriend Devin. But no one in her life ever heard of a Devin and they think she made him up. Until she meets him a year later and so many of her coma memories are true.

Love this premise and I think there are lots of interesting places it could go from there. However I am able to see where this is headed and it’s a trope I really don’t enjoy. I checked other reviews and can confirm this one isn’t for me. But I’ll still read other books by the author and really enjoyed Shipped.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the advance reading copy.

Thank you Gallery Books for my copy. All thoughts are my own!

I have been craving all the easy, breezy Rom Coms lately. I enjoyed Shipped last year on audio so I was excited to give Angie Hockman’s next book a try. And it was cute! I found the premise unique and while “out there”, handled is a really natural way. It felt absurd and realistic all at the same time.

Synopsis:

“When law grad Cass Walker wakes up after surviving a car accident, she is flooded with memories of a man named Devin. The only problem? Devin—as confirmed by family, friends, and doctors—doesn’t exist. Everything about him, from his coffee-brown eyes to the slightly crooked angle of his pinkie to his high-wattage charm, is a figment of Cass’s coma-addled imagination. Still, she can’t get him out of her head.So when she happens upon the real Devin a year later in a Cleveland flower shop, she’s completely shocked. Even more surprising is that Devin actually believes her story, and despite his protective younger brother’s doubts, they soon embark on a real-life romance. With her dream man by her side and a new job at a prestigious law firm, Cass’s future seems perfect. But fate might have other plans...”—Amazon

What I Liked:

The “Magic” Element—I thought this premise was unique! Cass wakes up from being in a coma and thinks she’s been in a relationship for a guy named Devin for three months. But plot twist, she hasn’t and none of her friends and family know who she’s talking about. It was a very cinematic concept and I could see it as a movie.

Cass’ Profession—I’ve learned A LOT about Big Law since meeting Ashley. It is such a demanding career and I loved how Cass explored her career as a lawyer and the kind of work that leaves her feeling fulfilled.

The Tone—It was light and breezy with the right amount of heart.

What Didn’t Work:

Just Wasn’t My Vibe—I liked this book fine, but I don’t think it will stick with me. But I think if you liked Shipped or books that aren’t cheesy like Hallmark movies but aren’t super smutty either, this will be a great closed door Romance for you.

Character Authenticity: 4/5

Thanks to NetGalley and Gallery Books this book made me feel all the feelings. I laughed, I cried, and there were moments I almost threw my kindle across the room. Not to quote Brie from the book, but I agree it was a soap opera of a time and I really enjoyed it. My only complaint is that the very end in the epilogue felt out of place. Had similar scenes been sprinkled throughout it wouldn’t have felt so weird, but it was just kinda tossed at the end. I really wasn’t a fan of how her driving was addressed. Other than those two things I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed Angie Hockmans debut novel Shipped, so I was excited to get an ARC for Dream On! I really enjoyed this one as well. I am obsessed with this cover and can't wait to get it in paperback. Overall a solid read, thank you to the author and publisher for the advanced copy!

I think I enjoyed Shipped a little more than Dream On, but Angie is definitley an author I will continue to read. I enjoyed this twist on the whole coma scenario. Instead of having to fall back in love with someone after you wake up, she found the man of her dreams (literally) and had to help him fall in love with her. I loved the twists, the love triangle, and ultimately the growth for all the characters til the end. I do think the romance wasn't quite there because you didn't see much of them on page together since she was with a different person. So I felt like I couldn't believe the such strong emotions they were giving out, but the ending was cute and sweet and I love how it turned out for every one.
