Y'all, this was CUTEEEEE. I love a good romance, girl-finding-herself moment, and this had all of it plus a literal dream man. I'd read this as spoiler-free as possible for maximum enjoyment!
This rating hurts my heart because I adored Shipped, but this book just didn't click for me. The premise was interesting and unique, and it was a cute, twist filled story. But the book also contained one of my least favorite tropes (love triangle), and the pacing was a little slow for me.
What I liked about this book:
1. Perry. He was a great book boyfriend. He was supportive and kind. I loved his job as a florist and the passion he showed for it.
2. Brie & Marcus were both great side characters. I liked their mini story.
3. For the most part, I liked Cass. I loved her showcasing her skills as a lawyer and as an artist. I also loved her journey to finding out what she wanted her career to look like.
4. The sense of place is wonderful. I've never felt the need to go to Cleveland, but Angie Hockman brought the community to life similar to the way she did the Galapagos Islands in Shipped.
5. This cover is beautiful!
What didn't work for me:
1. The love triangle, especially since these guys were brothers. This is my least favorite trope and I wasn't really expecting it in this book.
2. I thought the sex scene (that happens in the epilogue) was unnecessary. It felt out of place for the tone of the book. I'm not opposed to an open door scene but this one just felt thrown in for the sake of having one.
3. Devin's ex-girlfriend situation just felt icky.
4. Cass's indecision regarding Devin and Perry went on too long for me. I wish that "is it fate?" story line was wrapped up quicker.
While this particular book wasn't a hit for me, Angie Hockman's writing style is. I would happily read her next book. Thank you to NetGalley and Gallery Books for the advanced e-book in exchange for my honest review!
I enjoyed Angie Hockman's previous novel "Shipped,' so I was looking forward to reading this and it did not disappoint! I'm rating this a 3.5
After a car accident, Cass wakes up with vivid and romantic memories of her boyfriend, Devin, but her family and doctors inform her that he doesn't actually exist. Much to her surprise, she encounters Devin for real a year later in a flowershop. When they agree to meet up, much to the chagrin of his brother Perry, it seems like fate, but she wonders if this is all too good to be true.
Romance novels are typically predictable, so I loved the twists and turns in this book. I honestly had no clue how Hockman was going to account for her memories! The dialogue was fun and I felt invested in all of the characters, especially Perry. Cass' struggles to reconcile her love of art with her career as a lawyer were very relatable and had me rooting for her the whole book. I loved seeing her growth after the accident and her journey of self-discovery!
I would love to see a Brie and Marcus book next!
Thank you to Netgalley and Gallery Books for an e-ARC in exchange for my honest review. Dream On will be released on July 5, 2022.
I loved this book. Another successful read by this author. So glad I got an early copy of this book to dive into.
I certainly did not expect this book to be what it was but I liked it. The reason why she dreamed of Devin fell a little flat for me but I really liked the romance between her and Perry. I wish they spent a tad bit more time together but that's just a personal thing.
I received an arc through netgalley.
I thought I had the plot all figured out within the first few pages, but I was pleasantly surprised!
Cass wakes up from a nearly week long coma and finds out that her boyfriend, Devin, is a hallucination and no one has ever heard of him before. So behold when she walks into a flower shop a few months later, there he is. Devin is actually a real person, but the only problem is that they’ve never met before.
Cass is determined to find out why she can remember so many little facts about a man she’s never met before. So when Devin agrees to get to know each other, Cass is suddenly dating the man of her dreams… except that’s obviously too good to be true right?
Enter Perry, the man of her dream’s brother. Cass soon realizes that maybe her fairytale ending isn’t exactly all it’s cracked up to be and finds herself in the middle of these two brothers.
This romcom was fun and unexpected and you’ll find yourself not able to put it down because every time you think you’ve figured it out, another curb ball is thrown.
Thank you so much to @netgalley and @gallerybooks for an advanced copy to read and share my opinion!
This was a delightful tale! I really enjoyed the "dream mate" aspect and the realization that your dreams may not always be what is truly right for you.
Cass wakes up from a coma following a car accident and she is looking for her boyfriend, Derek. She quickly finds out that she doesn't exactly HAVE a boyfriend named Derek. She knows very specific details about him, things that should couldn't have just invented. She finds herself in a flower shop, chatting it up (and flirting) with the cute owner, Perry, and comes face to face with the actual Derek...Perry's brother. Cass and Derek get to know each other and start to date, but she finds a much different and deeper connection with Perry.
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to seeing what Angie brings to us in the future!
The premise totally caught my attention (waking from a coma to literally meet the man in your dreams) and I was so curious how it would all shake out, but unfortunately this book just did not do it for me. Once the competing love interest was introduced the plot became way too predictable, and something about the writing / perspective just made it a boring, slow read. 2.5 for me, but rounding up to 3 because I didn’t hate it and think others might enjoy it.
Cass was in an accident and wakes up from a coma asking about her boyfriend Devin Bloom. However, her mother or her best friend have no knowledge of Devin. The question is, is he real or are her memories of Devin a result of her accident?
This was an entertaining read with great supporting characters. There were some plot twist" that I figured out, but overall an enjoyable read! I will definitely read more from Angie Hockman.
Dream On is written in the first person narrative from the perspective of Cass. After passing her bar exam, Cass gets into a terrible car accident. She wakes up from a coma with months worth of memories with her boyfriend, Devin. So naturally she’s expecting her boyfriend around when she wakes up. Except *drum roll* there is no boyfriend named Devin. A year later she stops at a flower shop and finally sees the man of her dreams, Devin.
I was pretty much sold right after reading the premise. Totally sounded like my type of romcom! The story started off strong and I really loved the first quarter or so of the book. The middle was almost painfully slow but it bounced back in the end for a satisfying end (I was totally thrown off by that random smutty scene, not complaining though). Admittedly, love triangles really aren’t my trope of choice and it’s use of it here was… weird. The plot was pretty predictable but I live to channel my inner Poirot so that doesn’t bother me too much in this genre. I also wasn’t a fan of the flippant way miscarriage is handled in this book. The romance didn’t really have too much time to develop, this one almost felt more like women’s fiction in that sense. Between this one and Shipped, I honestly can’t decide if I’m a fan of Hockman’s writing. It doesn’t always flow naturally for me. What did I like? The rational way the characters dealt with their problems. It felt very real and likely. While this book left something to be desired, for me at least, it was a quick, fun read that I can definitely see my friends enjoying. I will say that I definitely enjoyed this one more than Shipped! Recommend if you’re a fan of chick lit.
Ah so cute!! This story unfolds slowly, in the good way where you just keep wanting more, but the ending is so worth the wait!
From the very beginning, my heart just went out to Cass. She was in a terrible accident, and she wakes up after six days with memories of a boyfriend who doesn’t exist. She knows his name, remembers his face, and knows so many details of his life, but there is absolutely no trace of the guy in her phone, photos, or other areas of her life. No one believes her. It felt like her mom, especially, was not very supportive of what she was going through. I just felt so much empathy for her, how isolated she must have felt!
Months go by and Cass has done the work to move on from the accident. She’s landed a summer internship at a prestigious law firm giving her a second chance at her dream career. Then on her way home one day, she stops into a flower shop where there’s this adorable meet cute … interrupted by THE GUY?!
What ensues is a story of seeming missed chances and I just kept hoping Cass would OPEN HER EYES. Cass goes on a little journey of self-discovery along the way, and as she finds out where her true passion lies and what kind of life she wants for herself, she begins to realize what has been right in front of her. Like I said, it’s a sloooow burn, but when it all comes together, it’s perfect!
4/5 from me! Add this one to your TBR!
I enjoyed this light romantic book. The story was great and I loved and enjoyed the characters. A great beach read to get lost into! I highly recommend!
Brief Synopsis: Law student Cass Walker wakes from a coma after a car accident with painstakingly real memories of her boyfriend Devin. The only thing is, Devin doesn’t exist. It doesn’t matter how vivid she can see him and how real all her memories are; he’s just a figment of her imagination. But a year after she wakes up, she runs into him. He is in fact real and so are all the things she remembers about him. Fate has brought her the literal man of her dreams. But when her dreams become her reality, will they be everything Cass thought they would?
I throughly enjoyed this book. I really feel like this book was different than other romances I’ve read. For one I feel like it had So many twists, what I feel like is a rare trait for rom com books. I guessed one twist early on, but there were quite a few others that I did not see coming. I thought about this book when I wasn’t reading it because I was dying to find out what was going to happen.
I absolutely loved Cass, the main character. She might be one of my favorite characters I have ever read. She was so level-headed and logical. I feel like so many times the main characters in romances make such stupid decisions. They neglect sharing true feelings or they jump to conclusions and act too quickly. I don’t feel like Cass did that a single time. I feel like she really took her time to come to terms with any feelings or realizations and that she behaved so logically throughout the whole book.
I also feel like the author handled every conflict in an extremely rational way. Conflicts weren’t drawn out for more “drama” and they weren’t just quickly brushed over. You could see the characters really working through issues and acting like rational adults.
This is an open-door romance, but the steam comes in the last half of the epilogue, so if you like your books free of spice, you can still read this one and easily skip over that part.
Overall I thought this book was great. It was Such a wonderful romance and I do feel like it was Different than what I thought it would Be and from anything else I’ve read. I can’t wait to read more by this author.
4.5⭐️
🔥Open-door romance.
I was in love with this premise. Girl dreams of her future love?! I’m in. I had to find out what happens. It starts off fine but we never really get much depth from the characters. Even the love connection is pretty smooth but after a while we see the cracks and it becomes obvious she is being pulled in another direction. Yeah, I’m down for a love triangle but not when it’s this close. That was a no for me. Also, the fake pregnancy side story was also a no and made me want this story to just end. It was all too predictable and everything fell into place way too easily. So, while not a bad story at all it wasn’t for me. 2.5 stars rounded to 3.
Thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for the ARC.
SHIPPED was one of my favorite books of 2021 so I knew I'd have to check out Hockman's next book and it did not disappoint. This was a cuuuute read. I loved the characters, loved the unique story, and loved how everything came together so well.
I loved the premise of Cass meeting the man of her dreams - literally. It felt like a unique take on a story that felt familiar. Plus, and this was the best part, there ended up being a logical explanation for everything. I won't say what that explanation was as not to spoil everything, but I'm just so happy everything made sense. There was quite a bit of foreshadowing leading up to it and it all came together so naturally. A slow clap for Hockman on this account alone.
Also, Cass and her love interest were just adorable. Every time they were in the same room or had scenes together I'd get a little giddy because they were just so good together. I won't talk about this much as it's a bit spoilery as well, but 10/10.
Overall, this was a great book! I'm officially sold on Hockman's writing and can't wait to see what she writes next.
The premise of this book was so intriguing, I was excited to read! It was a cute and heartfelt love story. I appreciated the issues the main character faced and it felt like I was listening to a friends story filled with real ups and downs!
Short synopsis: Cassidy woke up in a coma with vivid memories of Devin being her boyfriend before her accident, problem is Devin doesn’t exist. When she runs into him and his brother Perry in a flower shop a year later, she thinks fate brought him to her and she can’t wait to get to know him better.
My thoughts: I liked the premise of this story, I enjoyed Cass and her tenacity to accomplish her goals. How trusting she was of putting her heart out there with a stranger and the friendship she had with Brie. I didn’t feel like the conversation between each of the characters was genuine, it felt so forced a lot of the time. There were a couple situations where I felt like Devon and Perry were very presumptuous in deciding what was best for Cass (someone they barely knew.)
Read if you’re a sucker for:
* A dream man turning out to be real
* Flowers
* Love triangles
* Quick paced read
⚠️ Trigger Warning: “Fake” Pregnancy turning into pregnancy loss
Dream On is a sweet, quick, summer rom-com. I really enjoyed the author’s writing style because it made the book so easy and fun to consume. The premise of the book was unique which made me want to read it more than a typical romance book. I thought that the characters were lovable and relatable with just enough fun banter to make this a perfect rom-com. I look forward to reading anything else that Angie Hockman comes out with!
Thanks Netgalley and Gallery Books for the ARC!
A big thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with this ARC! This was the first time I’ve been able to read a book before it’s release date, so this was super special to me :)
Imagine this: waking up from a coma and the first person you want to see is your boyfriend of three months, only to find out that he doesn’t exist. Weird, because you totally remember that he brought you tulips on your first date and how he hurt his pinky finger. How could he be made up? He has to be real.
And then we meet THE Devin Bloom (okay so maybe that’s not his real last name), the man of our supposed dreams, and our world gets flipped upside down.
I really enjoyed reading this one! It made for a sweet romcom with a few twists that you might see coming if you pay careful attention ;). I kept wondering why Cass had all these memories of Devin and how she knew all the details of his life. The explanation for it is one that I would have never guessed, but once you read it, it clicks. I will say that some of the tropes used in this book weren’t my favorite, but that’s just personal preference and I do think that the author did a great job with them.
Hoping to read more from Angie Hockman in the future!
DREAM ON - ANGIE HOCKMAN
3.5⭐
Cass Walker wakes up from coma after surviving a car accident only to have memories of a man named Devin Bloom..who is not known to anybody close to her.
But what happens she meets him in real life a year later..
Can her dream man be her real life partner?
MY THOUGHTS -
What an intriguing plot so refreshing idea..I binged this one in a day practically only as i wanted to know how did Cass know about Devin and the reason in the end did make sense and was justified.
However ..I didn't like Devins character..esp Devin and Sadie ..that storyline felt a bit too much ..
The troupe of love triangle was also stretched till the end for my liking.
Thank you Netgalley and publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
