If you woke up from a coma looking for your boyfriend and or the man of your dreams.... only to discover he wasn't even real? Cass is involved in a car accident that sends her into a coma. When she wakes she just wants to see her boyfriend. But everyone tells her they have no idea who she is talking about. There is no one named Devin Bloom. But Cass remembers everything so vividly... This book was an interesting twist. But I felt like it wasn't a read that I enjoyed. Although Cass did evolve at the end of the book.

I didn’t really know what to expect when I dove into Dream On. It’s a little different, but that was nice. I don’t know if I would classify it was a romance. Maybe woman’s fiction. There definitely is romance in it. I think it’s one of those books that it is best to just go in blind and enjoy it.

I voluntarily read an early copy.

Genre: romcom
Pub date: 7/5/22
In one sentence: Lawyer Cass wakes up from a car accident looking for her boyfriend Devin - who turns out to be a real person but not her boyfriend...until sparks fly between the two.

I enjoy romantic comedies with a touch of magic and whimsy, so I had high hopes for this reinvented "While You Were Sleeping" plotline. I loved main character Cass - her determination to pick up her life after her accident was admirable. I also loved seeing her work with Devin's brother Perry to save his flower shop.

Where this one fell a bit flat for me was Devin - I just didn't care for his character, especially the way he treated the women in his life. The plotline was also a bit predictable - even more so than the typical romcom.

I think many readers will still enjoy this one; it just didn't give me the warm fuzzies that the author's debut Shipped did. TW: pregnancy loss.

Thank you to Gallery Books for providing an ARC on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I read Shipped by the same author and LOVED it. So when I saw this new title “Dream On” I knew I had to read it. I was in such a reading slump and this book helped me out of it! The way the author writes is so carefree and easy. The plot was something I had never read about: a girl wakes up from a coma with memories of having a boyfriend- however she has never met this man in real life… until she does. It was great I loved it and can’t wait for more from this author!

First, my thanks to NetGalley and Gallery Books for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I really loved Hockman’s earlier novel, Shipped, which I read last year, so I was incredibly excited for a chance to read Dream On. Hockman has such an easy, relatable way of writing a blend between romance, rom-com, and romantic tragedy that it makes her books utterly readable.

This book is filled with charm, and has a splash of tragedy. Our protagonist, Cass, sustained a traumatic brain injury after a car wreck and woke up believing she was dating a person named Devin Bloom. The kicker? None of her family or friends has ever heard of Devin and there’s no evidence that he exists.

Fast forward a little while later, and in a perfectly adorable meet-cute, Cass meets a person named Devin who matches all the internal and external features about “Dream Devin”… and also meets his brother, florist-shop-owner Perry.

What ensues is a mix of rom-com with a dose of friendship and workplace rivalry. This one packs in a bunch of little side-stories that eventually connect to the larger theme of the book nicely.

I really loved this one- it has lovable leads, a charming plot, quirky sidekick friends, a perfectly despicable “bad guy” and all of the elements that you love when watching a rom-com or reading a romance. It also had “While You Were Sleeping” vibes for me.

There are some trigger topics within, but I won’t post spoilers. If you’re a sensitive reader and want to know, message me and we can chat.

If you love romances and rom-coms, you need to pick this one up when it drops this July!

I really wanted to wait until summer to read this but I got way too excited. So it goes without saying that I really couldn’t have waited for this book to come out and am so glad I received an ARC. Thank you Gallery Books and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review? I really enjoyed Angie Hockman’s writing style and I really did like the twists that this book consisted of. The concept alone was just so intriguing and the characters weren’t too corny, which is something I was fearing for a kind of book like this. I have had Shipped on my shelf to read for so long (I know, I should’ve read that first but this book sounded so interesting and immediately had me hooked, I couldn’t help it) and if it’s anything like this, I’m going to love it. Overall, I was thoroughly surprised by this book and how invested I was in Cass and Devin and the theories I was coming up with as I was reading, so there’s a bit of that mystery element that I was pleasantly surprised by!

A good story. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. I was a bit disappointed because I loved Shipped. I couldn’t connect with these characters. It’s an easy read

“What the hell am I suppose to say? ‘Hi, you probably don’t know me, but I imagined we were boyfriend-girlfriend when I was in a coma. Wanna grab a drink?’” I hiss.”

Cass survives a car accident and wakes up from six days in a coma with memories of her boyfriend Devin. The only problem? Devin isn’t real, but she can’t get this imaginary boyfriend out of her head. A year later, Cass has her life back on track and started as a summer associate at a prestigious law firm. She stops to by herself some flowers to celebrate and bumps into the real life Devin! What does this mean? Did fate bring them together? Are they soul mates? Everything seems to be falling into place for Cass…. Or is it?
.
I’m not typically a romance reader… but I really enjoyed this one! It wasn’t super cheesy or cringey! It was cute and the characters seemed real and genuine. The plot was filled with little twists and I flew through this one in two days! It could have used some spice… but I’ll let that slide 😉 If you enjoy a fun, sweet romance.. check this one out when it comes out in July!

I received a digital copy of this book as an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. Thank you NetGalley and Gallery Books and of course author Angie Hockman. All opinions expressed are my own.

I had the pleasure of reading an advanced copy of Dream On by Angie Hockman. I loved Shipped (also by Angie) and looked forward to this new work. It did not disappoint.
The book follows Cass Walker-A recent law grad-who gets into a car accident after leaving her bar exam. She wakes up after a coma with memories of a relationship with a man whom she has no other proof of knowing. He's not in her phone, there's no photos, his name does not exist. Cass begrudgingly begins to accept that this man-Devin- does not exist, only she can sketch him in perfect detail.
After several months, Cass moves in with her best friend, Brie, to begin her summer internship with a prestigious law firm. Day one, she decides to drop in at a flower shop on her way home and bumps into none other than her mystery man, Devin.
As Cass pursues a relationship with him (and is fully honest with him up front which was so refreshing because honestly I thought she was just going to string him along and they'd have a big blowup about it in Act 2 or 3), she also spends some quality time with his brother, Perry. Thus, a love triangle is born. Each brother clearly represents a different path she could take in her life. Devin, who would keep Cass on her career-driven path to excellence and be the sparkly power couple with advantage but also working incessantly. Perry, who chose a career he loved versus what would make money and encourages her to pursue her artistic hobby that she had long ago set aside for lack of time in law school.
Angie delivers again with snappy banter and honest types of friendship that everyone should seek in their lives. There's a few twists and turns that I didn't see coming. If spicy romance is your thing, this is probably not your jam as there's only one scene that I'd say is about a 2 on the spicy scale. I enjoyed this book from start to finish and will keep Angie on my list of authors to buy immediately.

This book was sooo very amazing, not gonna say much as not to spoil anything but I’m so glad I received an arc!! I don’t think I could have waited for it to come out!

I had a really hard time getting into this one! The plot didn't do it for me. THAT ASIDE- It was cute, it was entertaining and Angie Hockman has a skill for writing really lovable characters with quick wit and fun banter!! I will still read more from Angie, but this one just wasn't my favorite!

Dream On by Angie Hockman is a clever love story disguised as a post-coma twist of fate. When Cass awakens from a six-day coma, she is convinced that Devin is her boyfriend. She sketches him as if captured from a photo, knows accurate and intimate details about his life, and remembers their time together. The trouble is that they have never actually met and her neurologist chalks it up to a delusion. When their real-life worlds collide a year later at the REAL Devin's brother's flower shop, Cass has to figure out what it all means. Who is he and why did she think he was her dream man?

I really liked how the story unfolded. The character development was well written and the pacing of the story was fantastic. I enjoyed the notion of fate vs. reality and the message of doing what brings you joy.

**MINOR SPOILER**The one problem I had with the book is that I didn't think the steamy scene in the epilogue was necessary. The book stands as a sweet love story on it's own. I rate it PG throughout 32 chapters, but then ending makes me rate it R. The steam at the end seemed gratuitous and rushed and it didn't add anything to the storyline. The author did such a great job with their chemistry and tension to develop their relationship before this point, so why mar it with something unnecessary? I hate that I had that feeling as I closed the book because it didn't reflect the whole, but it was my last impression and why I deducted a star from this otherwise fabulous book.
FINAL RATING: 3.5 stars rounded up.

✍️ One Sentence Synopsis: You wake up from a coma to find out the man of your dreams is real… you just don’t know how you know him.

💭 Overall Thoughts:
Just Like Heaven meets While You Were Sleeping in this adorable rom com— and while there were definitely similarities to the prior two romcoms mentioned, Dream On has it’s own twist.

I enjoyed that this one was part romance and part mystery that unveils itself throughout the book. Cass is a genuine, fun, witty protagonist who you will fall in love with and root for throughout her challenges. It was well paced and had some delightful banter!

Highlights:
😁 Witty Banter

Cass Walker wakes up from a coma only to be told the man she vividly remembers as her boyfriend, Devin Bloom, doesn’t seem to really exist. Her friends and family have never met him - until one day a year later when Cass and Devin meet again…

I really loved Dream On - it was like a sleeper hit for me, one of those books where you get so much more than you were expecting. Initially I will admit I was drawn in by the cover of the book - which is stunning by the way! Then in reading the blurb I was really intrigued. The premise gave me some While You Were Sleeping / Sophie Kinsella’s Remember Me vibes.

This was such a fun, lighthearted and interesting romcom storyline to watch unfold. There was an element of light mystery - with the Devin situation. A whole lot of personal growth and discovery as Cass grapples with ‘restarting’ her planned path post recovery. Romantic tension and will they / won’t they figure things out.

I enjoyed the world created and found Cass an fun character to follow and root for. Without any spoilers, it was interesting to see how things turned out and the explanations behind certain elements. I could see things headed in certain direction about 30% in, the journey there was intriguing and I was really happy with how it was handled and wrapped up. Overall, just a really enjoyable read that kept me going to the end.

Super cute, trope-y, sweet. Dream On was very fun to read! It was light-hearted and funny. I absolutely was drawn in based on the synopsis, and I'm glad that she knocked it out of the park!

Dream On is a sweet romance novel that follows the story of Cass Walker a recent law school grad who also just got out of a coma who swears she has had a boyfriend Devin Bloom, whom she can detail in drawings and stories. But nobody has met the guy. Months after her coma she starts to realize that maybe she was just dreaming of this guy when she meets Devin at a flower shop he helps out at called Blooms and Baubles. Maybe her coma-dream wasn't a dream after all?

Cass and Devin are introduced by a mutual friend and Cass tells him her wild story. From there a wild adventure unfolds. Read this fun, adventurous, coming of age story to find out how Dream On ends and to determine if Cass finds her true love in Devin.

Dream On is a fun, cute, sweet novel based on romance and love that starts with a tough accident. It is well written, a fun story that is written in a unique way with a fun ending.

After reading Shipped by Angie Hockman a five star read for me I was so excited to read Dream On and let me tell you it did not disappoint! This story gave me all the feels taking me through an entire spectrum of emotions. Just when you think you have it figured out there are twists and turns that keep you engaged and anxiously awaiting the next page. Can you imagine waking up after a terrible accident and being in a coma to find out the life you dreamed and thought was real was really a dream? Your dream guy Devin and the relationship you cherished a figment of your imagination. Convinced Devin was no more than a fantasy she is blindsided when she runs into her dream man a year later. Shocked and amused by her story Devin and Cass decide to see if fate played a part in bringing them together and if there relationship can be more than a dream or something real. What does fate have in store for Cass & Devin? Trust me you want to go along for this ride and find out. Definitely add this to your TBR.
