Dream On was another easy and lovely book by Angie Hockman. Although, typically I am not a fan of love triangles, the story tackled it in a way that didn’t have me hating it and I thoroughly enjoyed the different pull Cass had towards her two love interests.
There was such a unique plot and I really loved the mystery that was revealed at the end kept this story interesting. Although I felt this was missing a bit of the specialness that Shipped had, it still was a cute read.
Thank you Gallery Books for the arc. Thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
Imagine waking from a coma wondering where your boyfriend is, only to have your family tell you said boyfriend doesn't exist. But wait, it gets better! Months later, he appears....and things get...messy from there.
This is a really cute story - definitely give it a read!
SO CUTE! And unique!! I really enjoyed reading this book. I felt like I knew what was going to happen but the author made that journey one that I didn’t want to put down and ABSOLUTELY wanted to find out what happened with all characters. Ending felt rushed but definitely recommend!
Thank you so much to Gallery Books and Netgalley for letting me read an eARC of Dream On! I read Angie Hockman's other book, Shipped, last year and I loved it so much, so I was so excited about reading Dream On, and while it was an ok book, it was not my favorite.
Dream On 3/5 Stars
Summary from Goodreads:
What would you do if your dream man turned out to be real?
When law student Cass Walker wakes up after surviving a car accident, she is flooded with memories of her boyfriend, Devin. The only problem? Devin doesn’t exist. But everything she remembers about him feels so real, like the precise shade of his coffee-brown eyes; the texture of his favorite hand-me-down scarf; even the slightly crooked angle of his pinkie, broken after falling off a trampoline in third grade. She knows he’s a figment of her imagination—friends, family, and doctors confirm it—but she still can’t seem to get him out of her head.
So when she runs into the real Devin a year later in a Cleveland flower shop, she’s completely shocked. Even more surprising is that Devin actually believes her story, and soon they embark on a real-life romance. With her dream man by her side and an upcoming summer job at a prestigious law firm, Cass’s future seems perfect. But fate might have other plans...
I really wanted to like this book, but I had such a hard time getting over a few things- 1) I couldn't stand Devin, 2) the pacing was slower than I wanted it to be and 3) I was very iffy about Cass as a main character- half the time I liked her and the other half of the time, I felt as though she didn't know what she wanted, so she became wishy washy, and I hate wishy washy. There were some things I did like though- I enjoyed Perry as a character and everything about the flower shop. I also liked getting an inside look as to what it's like being a summer law associate, so that was super cool. I also loved Cass's relationship with her best friend and the relationship that she ends up having with (minor spoiler alert!) their landlord. Overall, Dream On was a fine book, but nothing special and nothing I would reread, but definitely worth a first read.

I was a big fan of Angie Hockman's book Shipped, so I knew I had to get my hands on this one. First of all, the cover is so cute! If I saw this in a bookstore, I'd definitely want to pick it up. I thought that the premise of this was so unique. It definitely pulled me in right away. I loved all the characters too. As an Ohioan, I also really enjoyed the setting. It felt a tad long at times though. I really love Hockman's writing and will continue to pick up her books in the future!
I wasn't sure how I'f like this one since I didn't realize there was a sort of love triangle and that is one of my least favorite tropes.... but I really enjoyed it! The conflict towards the end wasn't my favorite but I think it tied with the story. This was my first book by Angie Hockman and I'm looking forward to reading more of her books!
Well, this was delightful! I loved my time with this book. The characters are witty and so charming. I loved the unique storyline. The ending got a bit overdone but I finished it with a smile. This book just made me happy and I enjoyed it immensely!
I was super excited for this one after having loved Shipped. Unfortunately this one just did not work for me. I liked Cass and I loved the relationship she has with her best friends. I thought the premise was really interesting - A literal dream guy, and the writing was good. But I hated the love triangle. I don't like them anyways but when they involve two love interests from the same family I really can't stand them. It wasn't a bad book, it just wasn't a good fit for me.
The premise of this one was so interesting to me. Waking up from a coma with memories of your boyfriend, only wait, they were made up?? While I didn’t love this near as much as Shipped, it still passed the time just fine. I felt like there was so much more that could have been done with the premise of the book, and it took a turn I definitely didn’t think it would. You see it a mile away, but still not where I would have gone with the book. Anyways, it was cute but the characters were not all that interesting. They felt a bit immature at times. I really only enjoyed Perry. I felt like there were many scenes with Cass and Devin that were very cringe. Also, I am confused with the ending, as it was steamy while the whole rest of the book was not. It was like the ending was written by a different author.
Bottom Line: It passed the time just fine.
**I received a copy of Dream On from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are of my own.**
What a cute cute cute story! Slow burn to the real romance, temporary stop with Mr. Wrong, battling coworkers turned friends, and just the right amount of mixup that gets fixed pretty quickly because both protagonists are smart adults. I would love to see this turned into a film!

Imagine getting into an accident and waking up with memories of a whole life and boyfriend that doesn't exist. That is exactly what happens to Cass Walker and, just when she has almost come to terms with these memories, she runs into the guy from these dreams. Is he her literal dream guy or too good to be true?
I will admit that this book did take me a bit to get into. The first half was a little slow but the second half picked up and I was quickly enthralled and needing to know how it ended! I loved that Cass was authentically herself and that all these characters helped show her how to find her happiness. I really enjoyed the ending and the explanation for these dreams as well.
Dream On was released July 5th, and if it's not already on your tbr, it should be!

Special thanks to Gallery Books and NetGalley for sharing an arc with me in exchange for my honest opinions.
I loved @angie_hockman other book Shipped, so I was excited to get my hands on Dream On! This was a fun, delightful, original, and twisty story!
I loved the creative plot that had me hooked from the beginning. I NEEDED to know why Cass could remember Devin without ever having met him. And I’m so glad the reason was believe and realistic 🙌
A couple twists in the storyline kept me engaged the whole time and a wonderful cast of secondary characters brought out all the feels. I absolutely adored Perry who stood up for what he loves…even if it does go against expectations, and the reason behind his career choice.
It is a slow burn romance, but such an endearing story to read!
I loved @angie_hockman last book, Shipped, so was thrilled to get a copy of this one. It reminded me a little bit of the movie While You Were Sleeping (W/ Sandra Bullock).
Cass is a law student. She was in a car accident and I'm a coma for a few days. She woke with intense, real memories of her boyfriend Devin. Except she learns that she didn't actually have a boyfriend before the accident. Fast forward a year and she runs into this figment of her imagination- and he's real!
Cass and Devin aren't sure what to make of her vivid, accurate memories, but he's willing to help figure it out. It could be fate, right?
I enjoyed this book, especially:
-Theme of Resilience and hope
-Learning to be true to yourself
-Friends to lovers trope
-A lovely flower shop
-Strong friendship
-Really readable
Thanks to the publisher for a opy. All opinions are my own.
Thank you to Netgalley and Gallery Books for this ARC.
The premise of this novel caught my eye right away. I couldn't imagine waking from a coma with vivid memories of a relationship with someone who doesn't exist. And then to see him in person after a year of being told to move on? The idea promised drama and it delivered. I loved reading about Cass's journey back into the workforce and dating. This book had so much I loved: a kind and determined FMC, strong female friendships, forbidden romance, and an underdog MC that made me swoon. The writing was great, the characters vivid, and I enjoyed how everything played out in the end. Definitely recommend picking this one up!
The concept of this book is a bit wild, and I’ll be honest, at the beginning I was not convinced it would work for me. However, I ended up really enjoying this! It’s fun, albeit a little hard to believe, but if you suspend your disbelief, this is quite unique!
TW/SPOILER: miscarriage- I’m not usually one to post TW, but I don’t think this was handled in the right way.
Angie is my girl and I will always suppose her!
This book had a unique romance concept where one of our leads starts in a coma with recollection of having a relationship with her boyfriend, but when she wakes up not only is he not there to greet her, but he’s never met her.. I was super pumped to see how this would play out. Is she losing her mind? Is he lying? Will this all be a dream?
I think this story flows very well. I read it all in one sitting because I needed to know what would happen. It’s a quick, lighthearted summer read that anyone would enjoy!
Thank you to the publisher for the gifted arc.
Dream On caught my attention because of the gorgeous cover. I love it so much that I had no clue what the story was about.
I have mixed feelings on this book. The idea of the book is so fun, but I feel like it was missing something.
While I did enjoy the writing and most of the story, I had some issues with it. My biggest complaint is the love triangle that should not have happened. Had I known about it I would not have picked this book up.
Spoilers ahead. TW
The biggest thing that bothered me about this book is the sub-plot involving Devin’s ex-girlfriend. As someone who has suffered a miscarriage, I hated the way it was used as the problem between the couple. The whole thing made no sense, Devin found out because of blood in the trash can. That was so unbelievable vague and the miscommunication was so unreal. Who the hell wouldn’t ask to the point that you leave your girlfriend alone while she is miscarrying. I immediately hated Devin and the book lost some starts due to that.
Overall I had issues with the story but I would read another book by the author. This book just wasn’t for me.
DREAM ON's premise sounds like the old joke "I do have a girlfriend, but she lives in Canada." but in this case it's an imaginary boyfriend. Our main character, Cass, wakes up from a coma clearly remembering her boyfriend, Devin, who ends up being a figment of her imagination. Or so she thought.
It's about finding love, but also deciding how chance, fate and choice play a role in finding out how to be true to yourself. A quick, cute, & compulsively readable contemporary romance. Light on the steam until the last 25%
FWIW- I enjoyed this author's debut, Shipped, but enjoyed this one more.
Dream On was a highly anticipated sophomore novel from Angie Hockman and one of my most anticipated novels of 2022. I adored Hockman’s debut novel, Shipped (though I’d pass on the audiobook – the quality of the recording was very disappointing). I tried to jump into Dream On on a couple different occasions, but the first 15 pages were slow and I found myself wondering, WHERE IS THIS BOOK GOING?
I finally sat down and committed to reading this book, and I read it in one evening. I love the way Hockman writes characters and develops plot, background, and character development.
This story reads like a second-chance novel, but the twist is that the main characters haven’t technically met yet. Cass wakes up from a coma thinking she has a boyfriend named Devin, a man she knows many details about and can vividly picture in her mind, but her mom and her best friend have never heard a peep about this man, and they chalk it up to her traumatic brain injury. Cass tries to move on from Devin, but her memories are so vivid she can never fully let go.
Then, the cutest of all meet-cutes occurs one day after Cass’s first day at work, at an adorable, third-generation floral shop on her walk home. Cass meets Perry, who wows her with his charm and ability to make a bouquet just for her, in what is a giant romantic moment……………………………that is ruined by Devin.
From there on, Cass struggles with figuring out how to manage her own dreams for her life, the expectations of her mom, her professional goals, her personal goals, and balancing her head and her heart. In the end, she gets everything she wants, but along the way, we get to experience Cass discovering her true goals in life and how her choices are contradicting her desires.
I adored Cass as a character. She had mature responses and addressed challenges and complications smartly and with the maturity you would expect from someone much older than her. I also adored both Devin and Perry. They made mistakes but were also honest, genuine, and vulnerable.
In general, I loved all of the characters in this story, and the supporting cast was just as likeable as the main characters (aside from the villains of the story, obviously). There were hard conversations between some of the characters, particularly around how we want to identify ourselves to new people (example: Cass doesn’t want her traumatic brain injury to be all that someone sees; Perry doesn’t want to be the flower boy, etc.). This is an incredibly important topic of conversation in today’s world, because what the public sees isn’t always how a person feels. I appreciate getting insight into people having to experience difference and how they respond to it. Reading characters like Cass helps me to be a more empathic person and to approach situations with grace, understanding, and an openness to see, listen, and love others just the way they are.
There was good drama and tension at the end, and I loved how Hockman made each character step out of their comfort zone to get to their happily ever after. I was a bit surprised and disappointed in the epilogue, particularly in reference to two characters who I needed to see more evidence of their relationship before the happily ever after happened (when you read it, you’ll know). But I’m so grateful for how the book ended, how the characters found joy, and ultimately, how Cass found herself.
Overall, once I got past the initial skepticism about where the plot was going, I REALLY enjoyed this book, and I give this a solid 4-star rating. It’s very re-readable and I will definitely be checking it out on audiobook in the future!
The plot seemed to be similar to one of Sophie Kinsella's books, Remember me or something like that.
Also the romance seemed to be fast and instant and I am not a huge fan of that. This was a DNF and a one star for me.
