This one archived before I had the chance to read it, but then I got it from the library so now i'm reviewing. I tend to enjoy Mark Edwards' books but this one unfortunately didn't make the cut for me.

It started out really strong and i was INVESTED...then it went off the rails. Things started to not make sense, it got too chaotic, and several plot points were too unbelievable for my liking.

2 stars! I will still read more from this author but this wasn't my favorite!

An entertaining read that had you gripped from the first page. A little far fetched in places but not so much that i didn’t stop reading it as I needed to find out what happened !

I enjoyed this, however not as good as some of his others.

Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.

2.5 stars rounded up to 3, solely because I love Mark Edwards.

Sigh, I wanted to like this book so badly. It was fine, but nothing like Mr. Edwards' earlier thrillers which are totally gripping. I love how Mark Edwards describes his books as "scary things happening to ordinary people" and that is very true! His characters are relatable and make you feel like any of these things could happen to you.

Aiden Faith's younger sister comes to visit him in Seattle from the UK. They run into an environmentalist group while out and about and shortly thereafter Aiden's sister goes missing. He will stop at nothing to find her and bring her home, but does she want to be?

I liked the fast-pace story of this book. There is no shortage of action. While I liked Aiden, I couldn't really connect with any of the other characters. Because of that, I didn't really care what happened to anyone in the book. His books are supposed to be far-fetched a little bit, and so I was able to suspend disbelief for that; but still some parts of the storyline were a little silly and the characters could use some work as far as believe-ability goes. There are a lot of people in this book who the reader is supposed to care about, but they weren't fleshed out too well and I just didn't care.

Special thank you to Netgalley and Amazon Publishing for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read No Place to Run. The book was not what I expected from the author. I have read a few other books and this was not anything like his others. It was not horrible but it just seems like the writing was so different and not as interesting.

No Place to Run by Mark Edwards is a standalone book and I loved it especially as I was hooked within the first few pages. I loved the characters and they played great parts within this new book. Mark's books are always full of great twists and turns throughout and this one was no different. I Loved it.

I highly recommend this book.

I adore Mark Edwards, as an author and then as a person. He brings such a fun author relationship to his readers, hosting virtual PubDay parties and other interesting interactions with readers. Of all of his books that I have read, this one was good but not my favorite. I enjoyed the premise. An young Englishman who is a computer science guy and now living in the Silicon Valley region invites his sister across the pond for a visit. She is a rather typical teen who is at times excited by what the day offers and at other times sulky and uncommunicative. They go sight-seeing and venture into a local park where an environmental organization is holding a protest. Scarlett, who is a 15-year-old, disappears. Her brother Aiden panics and then she shows up a few minutes later, having been approached by a stranger to talk about a local band. Then a few days later, she disappears and becomes a missing person. There are few leads to go on until an older woman who is a traveler on a train, happens to be awake and looking out of the train’s windows when she spots the missing girl. She has been missing for 2 years at this point but this woman has an uncanny ability to recall faces. She alerts the authorities and Aiden decides to try to follow her description of where Scarlett may be located.
The early chapters drew me into the story and left me interested in what was to come. At times throughout the novel, I was on the edge of my seat with anticipation. Unfortunately, this was inconsistent. I found some aspects of the story to drive the plot forward and keep me reading and other times I felt like the story became stagnant and I found myself drifting. This is a bit unusual for Edwards, who generally writes compelling and propulsive stories.
Overall, the story was fun to read with a series of twists at the end that were intriguing. Some of these I thought were believable and others, not so much. I did enjoy this thriller and would likely recommend it for the right reader. I recommend Edwards as an underrated author of thrillers for people to check out.

No Place to Run is a novel that stands alone, written by Mark Edwards. A young girl, fifteen-year-old Scarlett, the sister of Aidan Faith, went missing two years ago in Seattle and is seen being chased by a man in a woodland clearing by a passenger on a train. Is it Scarlett?

A great atmospheric setting and a few twists contributed to my enjoyment of this novel. It will keep you pondering what might happen next. An action-packed, compelling domestic thriller, it's well worth picking up.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Amazon Publishing UK via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

Thanks so much to netgalley & Mark Edwards for an early copy of this book.

As everyone probably already knows Mark Edwards is my favourite author ever so I’ve been so excited to read this one & it did not disappoint.

As always I was hooked immediately from the first chapter, his writing just always has a way of grabbing my attention.
I went in expecting a dark thriller quite like his other books but was surprised to find this one took a slightly different turn and it took on more of a crime thriller approach which I think he did so brilliantly.

As always Mark has the talent of writing some insufferable characters who really know how to get under your skin, I really enjoyed how different this book was, I’ve not read anything quite like this before in terms of the topics it explores and covers.

Overall I really enjoyed this one, I think I’ve enjoyed some of his others more but I still highly recommend this one too, it’s not quite as dark psychologically but it’s a very dark crime with lots of twists and turns and if that’s your usual cup of tea then you’re in for a treat!

Bummer...

No Place to Run started out strong for me. Aidan's fifteen-year-old sister, Scarlet has come to visit him in Seattle when the unthinkable happens - She Disappears. Consumed with guilt and heartbreak, Aidan has not stopped looking for her. When he is contacted by a woman who says she saw his sister, Aidan begins his search.

What he finds is Lana who is looking for a lost sibling as well. Her brother Samuel has gone missing and local authorities claim he was killed in a wildfire, but she knows he is out there somewhere....

Will Aidan and Lana find their lost siblings?

Again, this started strongly, and I was all in. I even enjoyed the ecoterrorist part of the book until I didn't. UGH! I tend to Love Mark Edwards books. I look forward to them and I am always on the lookout for a new one. I was over the moon when I saw this was on NetGalley but sadly, this one lost steam and fizzled out on me.

I usually round up and I initially did but upon further thought, decided not to in this case. This won’t deter me from reading his books in the future. I will still be on the lookout and happily read what he writes next.

I have always enjoyed Mark Edwards' books and couldn’t resist getting this one despite my current issues with my extra slow reading.  This was different from the usual reads by the author though. I have come to expect creepy, captivating, atmospheric stories from him but this leaned more towards action.

The story begins with a lot of suspense that immediately drew me in. An old woman is on a train going through a forest when she sees a young woman being chased. What is even more shocking is that she recognizes the woman who is a familiar face from a missing persons poster.

After the suspense of the first chapters, the story however takes a turn that I wasn’t expecting and wasn’t really a fan of as I don’t really like action-packed reads and this one had quite a number of guns going off. If you don’t mind a bit of action, then you’ll certainly enjoy this book. It had quite a number of twists and as always, Mark’s writing is fantastic.

Thank you for NetGalley for providing me with this book for review. My first read from this author, wow from the first few pages it totally hooked me in. Read it very quickly, once I started I couldn't put it down.

This is such a shame for me as I love Mark Edwards as an author and have enjoyed many of his books that I’ve read but No Place To Run fell flat for me.

It started off promisingly with the origins of the story gripping me but the plot just grew to be entirely unbelievable and I struggled to stay engaged. I did finish the book, although I was tempted to DNF a few times, and there were the occasional moments that reeled me back in with the story picking up speed toward the end but overall I just didn’t feel invested.

I think this author excels at the twisty, psychological, creepy and tense stories and this one is a different direction entirely which I’m sure will hold appeal for many readers but unfortunately it just wasn’t for me.

Scarlett Faith disappeared two years ago while visiting her older brother Aiden in Seattle. He has been searching for her ever since, plagued by guilt that she vanished on his watch. There has been nothing but false leads and dead ends, until a woman says she is sure she saw Scarlett fleeing a pursuer in a forest clearing in Northern California. It seems fantastical, but could it be the lead Aiden has been waiting for?

Deciding to follow the lead, Aiden heads to California and finds himself in a town ravaged by fire, covered in missing posters and filled with secrets they will do anything to keep.

A new book by Mark Edwards is always an event for me and he can be relied upon to deliver an intriguing, suspenseful and twist-filled thriller where ordinary people find themselves in terrifying situations. And he’s done it again, this time taking a very timely topic and merging it with something much more sinister that makes you think twice about who you trust and what you get involved in. There is a lot of action but I will admit that it wasn’t my favourite of his books as I prefer his darker stories.

The book is filled with a cast of fascinating and well developed characters. There are siblings desperate for answers, naive young women, a mysterious woman with a mission, brutal security men and corrupt officials. Aiden is at the centre of it all. He is likeable and easy to root for; an innocent bystander who just wants to find his sister, he gets caught up in a web of dangerous secrets that makes him enemies who will do anything to silence him. There are also some great villains who have that sadistic streak you commonly see in Edwards’ books. Told from multiple points of view with flashbacks to the time leading up to Scarlett’s disappearance, it isn’t immediately clear how all of the different characters and threads are connected. But Edwards slowly weaves them together until the full, surprising picture emerges.

Menacing, tense and twisty, No Place To Run is an entertaining thriller that I’d recommend to those who like their thrillers on the quirky side.

Mark Edwards books are always so great to read. He creates brilliant adrenaline filled psychological thrillers boarding on horror as you really don’t know where the next twist will jump out on you as you find your heart pounding along with the main characters! This book is no exception as we enter the remote depths of North California and you get a real sense of a closed small town community unwelcoming to incomers poking around in their business. The lead character of Aiden is written really well along with all the characters and the baddies are particularly good!
