This is the first book I’ve read from this author and I’m hooked. I could not put the book down! The internal dialogue of the vulgar thoughts of characters was like reading my own thoughts in the way that I talk. Loved it
While I love the story and as it contains office romance, I couldn't help but hope for more. More than a typical storyline. I may have had some problems with the words too, some line felt like the author is trying too much to make them funny. They were funny anyway. I love Moore brothers though. I love the relationship between them. Would've loved it more if we got to see more of them here, emotionally.
This is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed the writing style.
I am a sucker for dual POV in a rom com or just really any story, and knowing what Chase is thinking made the story. I loved the banter and chemistry Campbell and Chase, and the story was done at a great pace. A great weekend read, perfect for vacation with just the right about of steam to add to the story. I was never bored while reading this and the side characters were wonderful. I am really looking forward to Thomas and Alice's story because Alice reminds me of me in a couple ways.
I received an e-ARC from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I was so excited when I read the synopsis and when the copy got delivered to my Kindle. Sadly, as much as I wanted to like this, I found it to be average. And honestly, it took a lot before I was able to take this book seriously.
This book is marketed as a rom-com, and usually, I'm easily amused but I didn't find the humor in this book to be entertaining. For the most part, they seem like a hard sell and were trying too hard to seem funny. A lot of the same puns were also overused and repetitive throughout the book.
The plot was promising, however, it fell short. I wanted the political angst and the justice to have more impact but it was lacking. A large portion of this book was dedicated to establishing what the characters, Chase and Bell, looked like and how much they're fantasizing about each other. There were at least five chapters or so that contained descriptions of their appearances and sexual fantasies.
Based on what I said about the plot, I didn't like the romance in this book. The supposedly romantic connection between Chase and Bell was so lust-centered, and not to mention, very insta-love. I wouldn't say the characters were one-dimensional, but I couldn't relate to either Chase or Bell.
I LOVED LIZ, and all of the side characters, they're funny and sassy, which is not surprising since that's how it's always been with the books that this author has written in the past.
I'm disappointed that I didn't like this book. It's very surprising since I enjoyed Sara L. Hudson's other series, Space. I'm intrigued with the next book in this series, it's about Thomas and Alice, and it seems to have an enemies-to-lovers or hate-to-love trope. I hope other people who decide to pick this up will enjoy it more than I did.
The opening description of this book stopped my scrolling it its tracks: “What happens when a New York City playboy, a Southern spitfire, and a hairless cat walk into a coffee shop? Burnt man-nipples, for starters.”
I mean, come on, how can you resist a hook like that?
Successful entrepreneur Chase Moore is a smooth ladies man with a hairless cat he inherited from a recent breakup. Campbell King is a determined Southern Belle with a knack for marketing and a past. When Chase hires Campbell to run marketing for his newly appointed role as the head of the family department store, sparks fly as they work to revitalize the store.
This book was just ok for me. I found it to be a little slow in the middle, but I really enjoyed the lead-up to the ending – it was tight, fast-paced and I was racing to see how it would all pan out. One thing I loved about the book was that it had awesome villains! The villains in this book are deliciously terrible and when they got their comeuppance, I savored it.
There were some aspects that I struggled with. At first, the hairless cat jokes were funny, but they became tired over the course of the book. I felt that while Campbell was a fully-formed character, I struggled to fully connect with Chase. He seemed at times to be nothing more than the “hound dog” he’s purported to be. I don’t shy away from raunchy language, but Chase’s thoughts were a little too much for me. I would have preferred a slightly subtler inner monologue.
When the book cover says it’s a panty-melting romantic comedy, they are not messing around. I would say this book is a good bridge between erotica and general romance for those that aren’t quite ready for pure erotica but want some heavier spice.
This was my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it.
It's very steamy -- so a heads up if that isn't your thing.
Chase's inner monologue was a little too crass for me at times and the "hairless pussy" joke got old really fast. But I love Mike and wish he'd been in more of the book.
I also wish we saw a little more of life at the store as that kind of Harrods-esque store is fascinating to me (Fortnum & Mason is my spirit store).
Bell's Elvis obsession was wonderful!
I definitely want to read future books in this series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you, Sara L. Hudson!!!
