This is a nice basic guide but I agree with others that more screen shots would be helpful. I write my books in Word and frequently have to look up tutorials for strange problems that arise. Most of these were not covered in this book, which means it was not that helpful for me.
I read a digital ARC of this book for review.
This is a very good resource for improving the way we use Word. There are helpful images to help navigation, as well as some "protips" and a list of keyboard shortcuts. I'm a pretty efficient Word user and I picked up a little information I haven't needed yet but expect to be using soon. Recommended for all but the most advanced users.
This is an excellent reference book for someone who is beginning to using word. It is chock full of information that will help you write your document in record time. Even an intermediate user will find that this book will be helpful as a resource. The book also contains excellent illustrations and step-by-step instructions on how to perform any basic task. It can be read and understood very quickly. I highly recommend this book for any document author.
With thanks to the author, Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA), and NetGalley for providing me with a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
This book is by no means a comprehensive overview of the multitude of features and options available in Microsoft Word, nor was it intended to be. Rather this is a very informative and useful quick guide to acquiring and getting started with using Word.
At the start of the book the author lists different possible use cases for Word, both personal and professional, and for people at different stages of their education and careers, and in a relatively short time does a good job of covering the topics that are relevant to each of those use cases.
The contents covered range from an overview of the different versions of Word and their associated costs, to topics like file management and document formatting, before wrapping up with some advice on how to collaborate with and review the work of others in Word.
I have used different versions of Word for many years for both education and work purposes, and still found some useful pointers in this book. I also appreciated the inclusion of the Keyboard Shortcuts listing near the end of the book, which I believe will prove a handy reference for any user regardless of their level of proficiency with the software.
The informal style of the author’s writing made the book very “readable” and not at all off-putting or overwhelming for non-technical people, as some books of this type can be.
Overall, I would highly recommend this work for anyone looking to upskill quickly on how to use Word effectively.
I have struggled with Microsoft word for many years. This book helps those of us who have indeed had the daily frustrations of using this very popular and global software. I am grateful to have read it and hope it helps others the way it is helping me.
A good introduction and quick read onto the software. Some images to help you out to see it for reference. Not a book that is in-depth but good for a starting point.

Angela Rose is a writer and B2C marketing strategist based in Colorado. When she’s not removing cats from her keyboard, you can find Angela searching for the perfect taco, running 5Ks, whipping up original pastry recipes, and hiking the Colorado Mountains with her photographer husband. Angela is also the author of LinkedIn In 30 Minutes (2nd Edition).
“Given all that, I can honestly say Microsoft Word is fahskath[bti[ghoiga;bskjht[g’hhslgg’hl!”
This is easy to read and even easier to follow basic guide to Microsoft word. What I love the most is how the book is written. I felt like I was conversing with Angela, becoming an MS Word pro!
I enjoyed the cat anecdotes and detailed images with step-by-step instructions on performing the various tasks discussed. Angela did not assume her reader knew the word, so she was very comprehensive without being dull.
This is an excellent guide regardless of your experience. I am pretty savvy with word, and some things made me stop reading, open word, and try out. There were several shortcuts for things that would have been so useful in college!
This is written for everyone, and it is truly a 30-minute guide to mastering the basics of Microsoft word! I definitely want to read the excel guide; I could always be more proficient there.
I can't believe this guide was available to Read Now - it is incredibly helpful. My job has changed recently and I need to put together a number of training guides and there are so many useful tips in here, particularly for formatting.
It does what it says on the cover. I am self taught on microsoft and read this book with interest and i can finally use the tools for editing and track changes, feeling very pleased. Easy to read and you can go to sections if you wish to find out how to do a task. Thank you #NetGalley for the book to review.
Helpful guide to expand your knowledge of Microsoft Word. It’s a pretty quick guide and gives you the ins and outs in a manner you can relate. I’m not sure if the thirty minutes ic correct but maybe just a catch phrase. Four stars for a quick guide.
I received a complimentary copy to read and voluntarily left a review.
For someone that is a office manager I'm always looking for ways to slimline and achieve things quicker. This book has gave me loads of hints and tips I didn't even know I could do. Highly recommend this book.
Angela Rose recently released the third update of her “Microsoft Word in 30 minutes.” The “In 30 minutes” series contains overviews of PowerPoint and LinkedIn as well. This update covers Microsoft 365 and Word for the Web, unlike the previous edition.
As the title shows, this book is a general overview of Microsoft Word. It instructs how to use the various icons and items appearing in the interface. If you have little experience with computers, this will help. Rose walks the reader through the entire process of creating a document, from opening, formatting, saving, and printing it. She discusses the basics of formatting a paragraph and how to insert images and tables into a document.
This short title would help my father-in-law, a retired carpenter who admits his struggle with technology. Yet even though I have worked with Microsoft Word and similar applications all my life, I appreciated the overview of the collaboration tools. I share my documents with Google Docs. Lazy. I know. Microsoft Word has several better features for sharing that I need to use.
Angela Rose accomplished what she set out to do. If you are looking for an in-depth treatment, look elsewhere. But if you want to introduce someone to Microsoft Word, perhaps even yourself, then I recommend this book.
I requested this book because I am looking to brush up on my skills within the family of Microsoft products. And while this book does give that information, I did not find it entirely useful. The entire time I was reading it I felt like I was wasting my time because I can do most of these same things with the google suite for free instead of buying Microsoft office.
Review:
Titling any “how to use this software” book that even *suggests* you can accomplish that in 30 minutes can be risky. Can the author actually pull it off? The “30 minutes” idea is, in my humble opinion, of course, is the “new” Quick Reference of my working years. There’s many a person who has multiple “quick reference” books still on their shelves.
The IMPORTANT key to a “30 minute” book is **UPDATES**!! Software is updated all the time as technology improves. The 2nd edition was published on June 26, 2019. Since a book starts several months before the publish date there it’s been three years between editions.
What appealed to this reviewer before I even flipped the first page as it covers Word for Microsoft 365, the Word I moved to a couple of years ago, BUT my Microsoft Word “knowledge” was the 2010 version.
Microsoft Word in 30 Minutes is not trying to be an “everything and I mean everything” book. The author, Angela Rose, provides what you need to know how to accomplish for what most of us need to know. The examples are clear — not tiny little images.
I have been working with word processors (that’s what we called them in the Olden Days) since the 1980s. And I have a “Word” genealogy project1 underway right now. My test for this book was easy-to-understand instructions for building a Table of Contents and an Index. Have creating endnotes or footnotes changed in the recent Word versions?
All of my “wishes” were granted and you can bet this reviewer is going to be using those in the coming weeks. Yes, I recommend Microsoft Word in 30 Minutes (3rd edition).
I received a complimentary e-ARC copy of Microsoft Word in 30 Minutes (3rd Edition) via NetGalley from the publisher, i30 Media Corp., Independent Book Publishers Association. A positive review was not required; the opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Description: The third edition of this “quick reference” book includes Word for Microsoft 365 *and* Word for the Web. Not “an everything you need to do anything in Microsoft Word”, but an easy-to-understand for what MOST of us need to be a knowledgeable user of the latest Microsoft Word.

Times really are a-changing , as in the new technology of Windows 11, the new word Perfect, and more. This small book will give you the help to maneuver thru this. Very helpful, and I will BUY the book as it comes out.
A good clear descriptions which detailed the changes in word since I last used it which was several years ago.
Very good, details and easy to follow instructions.
A very quick but helpful read about word which is a basic skill nowadays.
I'm currently writing my thesis and this actually helped a lot.
This was a very helpful book for people like me who struggle to keep up with changing technology from time to time! I especially appreciated the screenshots.
Microsoft Word In 30 Minutes is a short general subject guide in a series of guides for a broad range of topics such as Word, LinkedIn, crowdfunding, homebuying, excel, and various others. Originally released in 2016, this reformat and updated 3rd edition was released 27th Jan 2022. It's 104 pages and is available in hardcover, paperback, and ebook formats. lable in hardback, and ebook formats, with a paperback edition out in Feb 2022. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately; it makes it so easy to find information with the search function. The interactive format in this case rendered the read much more accessible and comprehensible for me. Special concepts and references are hyperlinked in the text making it simple to click back and forth without losing one's place.
Virtually everyone of school age or older has at least some familiarity with Microsoft's proprietary word processing software interface. We've all written papers or other documents on it. Some more adventurous users have created invitations or greeting cards. There are many other uses to streamline writing and give documents a more professional finish as well as time-saving shortcuts which rarely, if ever, get used. The author expertly details a number of useful tips and tricks to help readers gain expertise and facility with Word.
The book is short, but information dense. Chapters are arranged thematically: interface basics, creating saving & printing, formatting layout & design, inserting images tables & other elements, and review & collaboration. The subchapters contain step by step screenshots and directions to understand and utilize specific techniques. The text is written in simple accessible language to minimize frustration and maximize efficiency. There are bullet lists with step by step instructions as well as clear inset graphics and tables showing relevant screen shots (helpful!!).
The author has also included relevant useful appendices with universal shortcuts and system specific shortcuts for windows and Mac OS. I wish I'd had this handbook when I wrote my thesis; it would have saved me some frustration and tears.
Four stars. There will be some information which is already familiar to readers, but very few readers will know all of the info included here. I also liked that the author presupposes no familiarity with the program already - rendering this a very good guide for beginners.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
