3.5/5 for She's Mine by Belinda Wright
Oh my.....
I don't think I've read such a fast paced book. Either all of the event happened in a few days, the time skips were large, or I wasn't paying that much attention. Seriously, one minute they has just met and the next minute, umm, yea.
HOWEVER, I liked the pace. It gave me a thrill, a sense of actually living in the rush of the mafia world. The danger and fear-driven excitement was pretty awesome.
Slater is one hot mf. He was also quite surprisingly respectful (in mafia men standards). Get you a man that kills for you is all I'm going to say.
Dale is pretty great in her own right too. Not exactly a damsel in distress like I thought she would be, but I felt like she didn't really talk that much honestly. Most of her dialogue was inner, so it would have been nice to "hear" more of her outer dialogue.
My least favorite part though? The cliffhanger. Why? WHY?
Ill start with the positives.. I did love this story, im a sucker for mafia and protector tropes. Both main characters are written well and are likeable. I will say it seems this is very slow moving and then at 90% its crazy fast paced. I mean cliff hangers definitely sell books but if it takes that long to get to a climax most won't make it. I felt there was a lack of love even though they both fall fast. They barely talk about anything or have a connection other than him being a protector and her first. There was a lack of creativity in the spicy scenes it felt like one repeated multiple times...also lots of "quickys" with no real spicy details so they felt thrown in. Im hoping book two dives into them more and I guess I will end it with saying I will be reading book 2.
This is a softer mafia style romance book. The characters have potential but they need a little more chemistry or pizazz to be totally invested in their relationship. Since this is not a standalone book it will be interesting to see if they are offered more in the second book.
I really loved Daleylah’s character. She was wrote very well. The plot was very fast paced and easy to follow, it was a really great and entertaining story. The scene where they met El Patron at the club is definitely one of my favorites. Can’t wait for the rest of their story!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
DNF
I ended up DNFing the book at 50% Because it was putting me in a reading slump. I feel like I will maybe read it all the way through one day but it was putting me in a reading slump.
This is the first book I have read by this author and really enjoyed it. Sometimes it is hard when stories take place over seas with relating to the cultures. But I had no problem with this one. Slater is a strong man with a strong personality and when he meets Dale at his babysitting gig sparks fly. Dale is a sheltered girl thanks to her dad and his enemies. When Dale is almost killed, Slater takes things into his own hands regardless of who is makes mad and takes her for himself. He has his share of enemies as well but believes he can give Dale a normal social life, because he stays neutral in his business dealings and doesn't take sides. But his associates cause issues for him and he becomes the enemy and they in turn are coming after his weakness. Didn't realize this would end in a cliffhanger and expect for that this was a great story. It had enough romance, suspense and drama that it kept me turning the pages. Will definitely be reading book two in this series. Honest review in exchange for ARC.
I decided to still give a review to this book i felt like the characters love story didn’t develop well and something about the plot felt missing there was no build of tension until the last chapter lack of character development I’m giving it 3 stars to be nice as it’s the authors first book
I feel like this could’ve had so MANY MORE spicy moments!!! The plot was truly great and so were the details with Dale. I definitely needed more personal information about Slater that made him who he is today. The two together are definitely perfect, just needed more. Ugh, the boom needs in a cliffhanger which I understand 100% why and now I need answers!
While the beginning may have been a little slow, the story quickly picked up and I found myself not wanting to stop reading Slater and Daleyah’s story. Odd as it seemed that a gangster not within a crime bosses organization would even consider watching a 22 year old woman, but he does and Ms. Wright makes the storyline work. Once Slater finds Dale in his arms, you know he is not letting go and as naïve as she is, she knows Salter can be trusted and begins falling for him.
This was a good book and although I am not a fan of cliffhangers (and this one is big), I will definitely be reading the next book.
I’m fairly new to dark romances but I can’t say this is one I would recommend.
Slater owns a chain of fight clubs that are also a front for illegal activity. He’s not in a gang but assists a few of them with their “business”. One of the gang leaders talks him into protecting his daughter while he’s out of town. Cue obvious drama of the danger and love variety.
I didn’t feel much of a connection to either of the main characters, and felt they lacked depth and weren’t very likable. Insta-love - their relationship went from nothing to “I’d protect you with my life” without much evidence of feelings developing. I also found the plot somewhat lackluster. There was no build of tension until the last chapter when it ended on a cliffhanger.
Slater was asked to do a favor for one of his business partners. The favor is to watch over the daughter while he goes always on business. Dale, the 22 year old daughter, just wants to escape her life. She has 2 weeks left to graduate college and get out of this criminal lifestyle. When Slater takes on the job of being her babysitter sparks start to fly. Dale starts to see that maybe she could love someone who is in the business of crime and still be happy. Will everything work out and her get her college degree? This books ends in a cliffhanger and you will have to wait for the second book in the series to come out.
Slater is an MMA fighter and owns multiple gyms and businesses along with his brothers and best friends. He is asked by one of his crime mob associates to protect his 22 year old daughter Dale while he is out of town for 2 weeks. Neither Slater nor Dale are thrilled with the situation but try and be cordial. They quickly realize their physical attraction to one another and have to trust one another when someone tries to kill Dale. This is a dual POV book that ends on a cliffhanger.
This was a quick and entertaining enough mafia/bodyguard romance. The plot was intriguing, however, there was a lack of character development/dialogue and I felt that the chemistry was rushed. The sex scenes were also lacking. Dale was a pretty dull female main character but I found Slater much more interesting. The relationship between Dylan and Lina made me curious to know more about their history.
Overall I feel that the bones of this book are good and I hope these things can be improved in the next book.
This was good fun! I enjoyed the characters to a certain extent and the mafia type storyline is definitely a current trend. Super easy to read and a bit different from the usual of this genre. I found the characters to be interesting, but felt that Dale went from hate to love in all but two seconds - drawing that relationship build out a bit more would've made me a bit more satisfied.
I really enjoyed this book! I loved how the storyline unfolded of how Slater and Dale were brought together. There was suspense, action, and intriguing characters. I didn't expect a cliffhanger and now I'm dying for the next book in the series! I hope other characters are explored as well...I'd love to know more about Lina and Dylan!
