Thanks to Charlesbridge Publishing and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in return for my honest review.
I found this to be a charming book about families, new families and bonding around food! Jillian is a young girl whose parents are divorced and her mother has remarried. Her step-dad is a good guy but she now has a new grandmother, and is upset as to why she now as 3 grandmothers and does not want to lose her other birth grandmothers. The first visit is a disaster, the second goes better and eventually all 3 grandmothers come and make their own traditional soups and the bonding of the new family happens. Good story, very understandable situation and bonding over soups is "souper"! Supported by good illustrations, it also comes with 3 soup recipes that I have already copied!! Fine effort by both author and illustrator, this is a wonderful book about blended families and what we all have in common.

I just reviewed Brand-New Bubbe by Sarah Aronson. #BrandNewBubbe #NetGalley

Brand new Bubbe is a new upcoming book of Sarah Aronson. It is a beautiful picture book for children. I am really thankful to Netgalley and Charlesbridge who gave me a chance to read this book.
It is a story of Jillian who in her childhood is introduced to her stepdad and she faces a new family. Jillian tries to adjust with new family and her bubbe.
It is interesting read to know how she manages herself and how she brings all family members altogether. I loved reading this book.
I personally recommend this book for little kids and requests mothers of kids aging 5-8 should gift this book to their kids. Happy reading!

Such an adorable book! I miss my Bubbes!

You will love this beautiful storybook because of the Bubbe of course, but also for the storytelling and the recipes!

The concept of acceptance and found family vibes is perfectly reflected in this story.

Love the amazing artwork. I just love the recipes given towards the end. Didn't I mentioned it already?!

Thank you, Charlesbridge, for the advance reading copy.

Brand-New Bubbe is a wonderful story about how to blend a family (and how to make soup). While I was immediately won over by Bubbe, Jillian took more time after all, getting comfortable in stepfamilies takes time and this book is a great way to explore the big emotions that can come with this adjustment. Jillian's struggle to welcome Bubbe because of her fear that she would be replacing the grandmothers that she already has felt very real. The line "like soup, family was made with love" stuck with me. It shows readers that it is possible to blend a family and traditions and the result is always that there is more love to share. I highly recommend this delicious book.

A lovely story about adapting to a new family life. With the image and idea of families changing, this story is a great one to show little kids just how similar we all are.

Great read for all families, kids' book clubs, and schools. There's an old adage that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Well this goes for a little girl named Jillian as well, who does her best to ignore the new grandma (or bubbe) to the family. After all, she already has two grandmas and she loves them a great deal. She doesn't need a third grandma (her stepdad's mother).

Bubbe is, however, not easily brushed off. She's a loving, caring woman ready with hugs, kisses, gifts, and when all else fails--homemade soup. But Bubbe's soup is different from Jillian's delicious favorites--Noni's meatball soup and Gram's spicy gazpacho.

Once Jillian accepts that Bubbe is not so bad after all, she devises a plan to bring all of the grandmas together--through cooking naturally.

This story is a wonderful teaching opportune of acceptance and what makes a family. All three grandmas soup recipes are included in the back of the book.

Kids will throughly enjoy Sarah Aronson's well thought out story about family. Ariel Landy does a brilliant job with her fun and colorful illustrations.

Thank you to Charlesbridge and Net Galley for providing an ARC of this book.

This story about Jillian and her Bubbe. It was nice to see her finally warming up to Bubbe.
This book teaches children that family is not only by blood.
Thanks to Netgallery and the publisher for this ARC!

Review to come August 7th to blog and to Goodreads in September. (August is my vacation month in which I will be mostly taking a break from blogging, there will be posts, but I won't be fully active).

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

I just couldn't resist this book when I spotted it on NG! I mean, that cover is just so sweet and I wanted to know the story behind it.

In this book we meet Jillian who has recently gotten a new and nice stepdad, but you know what comes with that as well? A grandmother! She calls herself Bubbe and she is more than eager to make friends with Jillian. Jillian however isn't in the mood, and I could also understand. It must have been strange already to have a new father, but to also get a grandmother, especially when one has two fantastic grandmothers!

I had a laugh at her plan, yes, it was mean, but again I could understand from where she was coming from. I am glad though that it didn't deter Bubbe and that Jillian's mom even had a chat with Jillian. I was already wondering if that would happen or if this one would just magically leave such important chats out as do some children's books about this theme.

I am so happy with the ending and I was surprised to even see a great-grandmother there! That is so amazing, I wish I could have met my great-grandmother! I just loved Jillian's idea and I was so proud that she dared to take that step. That she went for it! Plus, there is a fun surprise in the last picture that just made me smile!

The art was really fun, I love the style and the colours. It fits really well with this story and I definitely have to see if I can find more art by this illustrator!

Extra points to the recipes at the end! That really completed the book for me! Plus, I love the extra resources, and oh yes, that final picture was just the cutest. Congrats!!!

All in all, a very sweet book about family and that you aren't replacing people, you are just adding them to your family. There is always room for more family! Recommended!

This one was really cute! I liked the family. The daughter is dealing with a new step grandma and feeling lots of emotions. But in the end the food helps win her over and she brings her whole family together!

Thanks NetGalley for this ARC!

'Brand-New Bubbe' is a beautiful story about family. The front cover is absolutely stunning, with fantastic illustrations to match!

My only concern is that within this sentence, ''She smothered Jillian with bright red kissy lips', commas may need adding in-between bright, red, and kissy lips. I found no other concerns bar this one, and the sentence structure, and language really flowed within the story.

I loved the seamless way the story introduced the concept of different cultures, and what love and family mean. I adored the character of Bubbe, and I liked the ending where Jillian gathered everyone together.

Rated 3.5 stars

This is amazing! Jillians feelings about getting a new bubbe were validated, understood, and addressed. I respect that liking her wasn’t forced. Everyone allowed her to take her time processing this new change. In the end once she gave bubbe a chance she realized she wasn’t so bad all on her own.

Jillian's mother remarries, and that brings in a new grandmother, her Bubbe. She thinks that two grandmothers are quite enough, and doesn't want anything to do with her, despite how her bubbe tries to get her to realize that there is plenty of love to go around.

Bubbe gets Jillian to make matza ball soup with her, and when Jillian tastes it she realizes that soup is symbolic of what a family is, all bits of things that go together as one.

The recipe for the soup, as well as her two other grandmothers' soups are included in this very sweet picture book.

This is a very sweet picture book about how family can grow and the only requirement for family is love. I also liked how each of the grandmothers have a different moniker - gram and noni, and now Jillian is getting a bubbe now that her mom has remarried. I also enjoyed the way food was used as means of growing closer and soup the metaphor for how family is a blending of “ingredients.” Overall this was really cute, and I really loved the illustrations.
