The story of Double follows two friends as the pursue acting. One of them has some talent, but the other is highly skilled. The two of them work together to bring out each other's talents, but how long will this relationship last while one of them lives in the other's shadow?

I was given this manga to review by Netgalley, and have not read the first volume. So I did find the story a bit confusing at the start of the volume. That being said I think that the story has a lot of promise and had I read the first volume, I think I would have enjoyed reading this a bit more. The art is quite nice, but ultimately I'm not compelled to read more of his story only because it doesn't suit my personal interests. I'm rating it semi-highly because I do think others might enjoy this one.

The art looks amazing i definitely enjoyed more this second volume than the first one. This sets up a lot of things that could lead to major events in the future so i am very excited to see how this goes forward! the illustrations continue to be amazing one of the best mangas out there

The story follows two friends who seek to better their acting skills, fame and fortune. Yuuji is a good actor but Takara is an undiscovered genius. However, Takara’s genius only comes out with Yuuji’s help. How long is Yuuji willing to give up his own dreams and live in Takara’s shadow?

The drawings are good. The story line is interesting and haw lots of potential. This is the second in the series and I did not read the first. I got a bit lost in the beginning and think it would really have helped if I had read the first issue. Sometimes it was hard to tell the difference between “real time” and imaging how to play the role.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.

Double, V. 2, is the continuation of the story of two aspiring actors, Takara and Yuuji, and their attempts to launch their careers. Takara is the more talented of the two, but he also appears to be neurodiverse and needs Yuuji to help him focus his talent into his performances.

Takara wins a role in a large-scale movie, which turns into a lucrative commercial deal while Yuuji is still doing friends' local theater productions. Takara struggles to deliver an adequate performance on set without Yuuji there to help him. Takara's career is rapidly eclipsing Yuuji, and while there isn't any jealousy yet, it seems inevitable.

The artwork is amazing, particularly the full-color cover.

Finally read the 1st volme and this one and I would say this is pretty much a fire and a compelling volume.

I absolutely enjoy the characters development as well as their interaction and friendship. Aside from that their passion towards acting.

I am absolutely excited on the next volume and how it goes on after this one ended.

I absolutely adored the first volume but I enjoyed this one a tiny bit less. Don’t get me wrong, it is still very good and the drawings are amazing but, I felt that in this volume, Takara starts to take his independence from Yuuji. Also it focuses more on Takara. I wonder how the next volumes are going to be.
4/5

Double, Volume 2

Thank you to Tokyopop and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

This slice of life manga is a fascinating look into the world of acting and also focuses on the relationship between the undiscovered genius of Takara and his best friend, Yuuji.

In this volume we learn more about how Takara thinks and interacts with others outside of the purview of Yuuji but we also see his reflecting on their relationship as he tries to fit himself into the role the director wants him to, rather than the one he developed with Yuuji!

Takara’s world is expanding and he’s meeting all sorts of different people, his acting is improving, but Yuuji is stuck.

What will bubble up in the fissures of their relationship?

If you like character focused work, I think you’ll enjoy this!

(It’s definitely not a BL tho, if you were wondering lol)

I'm loving reading about the world of acting. The main character's way of performing is really fascinating. Each volume brings more of how his method is evolving and how complex it is with his actor friend. Didn't think I'd be so interested in this series but it's one I'll continue to read.

Takarada gets a role as supporting character in a film by a very prestigous director, and has to leave his best friend behind to go on the set.

Did not like this as much as I did volume 1. There were some penals in which either the perspective or the anatomy totally went wrong. Now, if I consider the pace at which manga are churned out, you can only expect some flaws to creep in.

What irked me more was that I had difficulty following whether we're in the present time, if we're in introspection, if we shifted to the other character, and while I was figuring out where we are, I was taken out of the flow so frequently that I lost all my enjoyment and didn't care at all about the characters or the plot.

Not sure if I read on. Since this is characterdriven and we don't have much of a plot, I don't feel the need to read on if I don't enjoy it.

The arc was provided by the publisher.

Picking up from last volume, Takara's manager lands him more auditions. Both he and Yuuji try their luck at landing a role in the latest film from an esteemed director. The role may force the two to confront how they feel about where their friendship lies. Meanwhile, the theatre company tries to put on a production of Chekov's Three Sisters while struggling with a few hurdles thrown their way.

Really enjoyed the direction this volume went in. The way Noda represents the overwhelming relationship between Takara and Yuuji manifests in such interesting ways and it's been cool to see how new characters respond to their dynamic. Speaking of these new characters, the level of detail put into their designs has really impressed me. Excited to see keep following this series.

Double, Volume 2 by Ayako Noda is a slice-of-life manga about men who want to become actors. The story revolves around Takara, a genius actor who hasn't made his big break yet. Meanwhile, his "double' and best friend Yuuji is jealous of Takara, but he's the only one who can bring out Takara's talent. As the two enter the world of auditions and showbiz together, will they lead each to success or drag each other down?

Overall, Double, Volume 2 is an interesting look into the art of acting. One highlight of this book is the relationship between the two main characters. This is not a BL manga, so they don't have a romantic relationship. But they have a very strong and perhaps codependent friendship. It will be interesting to see if it leads to greatness or failure. I took off 1 star, because I wasn't a huge fan of the artwork. If you're intrigued by the description, or if you're a fan of manga in general, I highly recommend that you check out this book when it comes out in

Thank you, Tokyopop, for the advance reading copy.

I remember reading the first volume as an ARC and it's quite memorable. I am thoroughly impressed with the sequel. I was expecting too much out of the characters and the plot. I'm happy to say that I got more than what I was anticipating. And what surprised me the mkst was the artstyle and the art sequence! Such a huge improvement and I just couldn't take my eyes off of some panels as I was truly amazed with the artist' artwork. (And this is how my expectations go even higher for the next volume!)

I love how the characters are. They are really chaotic together but they are dead serious when they're working. This switch in their nature still surprise me. And the humour always cracks me up!

Well done. Kudos to the hardworking team!
