Disney's Beauty and the Beast is one of the greatest animated features I saw when I was younger.
And when I heard that a manga version of it was coming out, I had to read it.
We have here the story presented from Belle's point of view in Belle's tale, the manga follows the plot of the Disney movie.
The drawings are really pleasant to the eye and are quite close to film.
We also discover what happened to Belle's mother, at least I don't think I remember the movie talking about it...
I won't dwell too much on this tome but it's still a must-read for all fans of Beauty and the Beast.

I was more interested in the other volume: Beast's tale, where the story is told from the point of view of the Beast.
We discover a little more about the past of our cursed prince and especially about the relationship he had with his father, the same relationship that transformed the young innocent child into a haughty man and indifferent to the misfortune of others until the day he crossed the path of a certain enchantress.

Two interesting companion books which bring a new life to the Disney classic and could make a new generation want to discover this magnificent movie that deals with subjects like rejection, acceptance and the right to be different.
The Beast, having never known any kindness since the death of his mother, had no one to explain and show him the meaning of love.
Having only known his father's rejection, he has never known how to deal with others and has become even more withdrawn since the curse began.

First and foremost, I'd like to express my gratitude to Netgalley and Tokyopop for providing me with an e-ARC of this manga.

Summary: Belle, a bright, beautiful, and independent young woman is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle in Disney's live-action blockbuster "Beauty and the Beast." Despite her anxieties, she befriends the castle's enchanted staff and learns to see past the Beast's terrible exterior to the genuine Prince's kind heart and spirit inside. In this full-color manga-style graphic novel, which chronicles the Beast's effort to move on from his past and learn what it means to love, dark, chilly, subdued colors depict the Beast's pessimistic view of the world.

To be honest, I preferred Beast's point of view to Belle's. We can see why he avoids connecting with others and opening up to them in this manga, as well as how he evolved over time when Belle entered his life. The things that love motivates us to accomplish. It's like getting to know a different beast. And the man who reads with his girlfriend🤍

The colours at the beginning of Beast’s tale were black and dark blue to represent his dreary view of the world and his dissatisfaction. They become a lighter blue as he discovers his emotions with Belle and by the end of the tale the colours are very bright to signify his enlightment and the break of his curse. I loved the colours and so did my 8 month old when I read it to her; she couldn’t get enough of the colours. I gave this 5 out of 5 stars because the drawing was well represented for the manga style and the change in colour scheme as the story progresses was fantastic. There is a second manga that goes with this which is from Belle’s POV; I can’t wait to read it.

*This was written in 2017 and then was re-released in full color.*
I may have enjoyed this perspective more than Belle's! I think it's because the movie is mainly from her perspective so this is a bit different. I like how they used the colors, making Belle's perspective bright and happy and the Beast's dark and gloomy (until the end). The writing didn't seem as disjointed this time, but was still a bit quick (maybe that's just because it's a manga). Again I really enjoyed the art and thought this was a fun read! Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for providing me with an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

Design
The manga is beautiful! Each page is beautiful to look at and unique. I love it so much! I really like the design and it is perfect. A real eye-catcher.

Action
It was really interesting to read the story again from the point of view of the beast, as there were some surprises for me. I liked that the same situations that already happened in Volume 1 were portrayed again from the point of view of the beast. Although it was sometimes not very exciting, it was interesting and sweet.

Conclusion
Overall, I also liked the second volume of this Dilogy very much! The design is beautiful and perfect. The story is interesting to read and has given me beautiful reading hours. Clear recommendation!

Gestaltung

Klare Empfehlung!

I'm already a huge Beauty and the Beast fan and I was quite eager to see the manga version of a beloved tale. If you were a fan of the live-action movie, then you'll have no problem enjoying this. I was hoping for something a bit new from the story since this captured the high points from Beauty and the Beast.

I loved seeing the concept art at the end, it's absolutely beautiful!

This is better than Belle’s version but it is still not as satisfying as I had expected,

The story is based on Disney’s 2017 live action movie of “Beauty and the Beast”. While the story is faithful to the movie, it doesn’t include all the scenes but covers the events that happen from Beast’s perspective. This lends the story a novelty that was missing in the other book that contains Belle’s version of events. After all, hers is the more popular narration so to see things through Beast’s eyes made a big difference. The story tries its best to help us understand Beast’s decisions. I loved Beast’s internal monologues in this book.

This book is part of a two-volume manga series which was originally released in 2017, just after the movie. This edition is the full colour version of the original B&W manga. While Belle’s book was full of bright and pastel-y colours, this one has more sombre and duller colour tones to match Beast’s “beastly” mood.

The illustrations are very nice, aptly manga in style. The manga order in this book is better than in Belle’s version but it is still not consistent throughout the story. Most of the pages follow the Western comic style of left-to-right panels, with only a few pages coming in the manga order of right-to-left. Either would have been fine, but having both isn’t good as it muddles things up.

Once again, there are jumps in the storyline, which I now realise were covered in Belle’s story. So the two books are like halves of each other but not exact semi-circular halves. Rather, they are more like two pieces with jagged edges but which fit into each other perfectly. This will create a problem if a reader chooses to go for one of the books and not the other. To get a complete experience, reading both the stories is a must. Perhaps, it would have been better to have the complete story in a single book than these two separate editions with partial narrations. (Then again, watching the movie too will provide the complete story.)

Basically, I enjoyed this graphic novel far better than Belle’s story, but it still left me wanting more.

3.75 stars.

My thanks to TOKYOPOP and NetGalley for the DRC of “Disney Manga: Beauty and the Beast – The Beast's Tale (Full-Color Edition)”. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.

Its the familiar story we all know and enjoy but I really enjoyed seeing more of Beasts side. The color tones are darker and more blue tones that we associate with beast. If you are familiar with Manga or Manhwa the reading style is no issue. I would recommend this set just for the imagery alone.

The manga illustrations for both Beauty and Beast's tales are stunning. Please read both volumes to read the whole fairytale. The manga focuses on the Disney live-action film, not the Disney animated film.

In this volume, Beast's Tale captures the his struggling mindset as he tries to move on from his past. He learns how to be compassionate and to love through Belle and it clearly shows as the color palettes of warm and cool palettes balance each other out. Perfect for Disney's Beauty and the Beast fans to add into their collections!

Disney Manga: Beast's Tale was based on the live action movie instead of the animation that came out in 1991.

To be honest, this one was more interesting to read compare to Belle's Tale since we rarely see it from Beast's POV in the animation or live action movie.

Unlike the warm and bright color we see from Belle's Tale, Beast's Tale was have darker and cooler tones of color for the art illustration portraying how he lives his life trapped in a curse which slowly change when he got to know Belle.

Although, I have to admit I've seen same scenes from Belle's Tale since I've read that one first before reading this. It might feels repetitive at some point, but I don't really mind it since I love seeing the stunning art.

Overall, this is a wonderful and beautiful manga illustration of beauty and the beast. Seeing it from Beast's POV and how the tone of art portrayed the Beast's emotion is a really nice touch to the story.

If you want to pick this up, make sure to pick up the Belle's Tale too in order to read the full story of this fairytale.

Loved it! The story flowed as a tale as old as time - get it? And it still remains a gem with this graphic novel. I can’t wait to own the physical copy of this + the belle manga! The covers are brilliant aligned next to each other.
Would definitely recommend if your a BATB fan. I love that it was told from the beasts perspective as well.

This manga adaptation of the live-action Beauty and the Beast film follows the Beast's story, from his childhood and the origin of his curse, until the curse is broken.

Having now read both the Beast's tale and Belle's tale, I believe I enjoyed the Beast's tale better, simply because it offers a perspective we don't get much of in the film. We get to see the Beast's childhood, the night of his curse, through his eyes, and it's quite an intriguing perspective. I do still have the same artistic problem with this installment, which is simply that the Beast's face is kind of... well, bland. He doesn't really look like himself, or like anyone, really. But beyond that, I did enjoy the rest of the art.

I received a copy of this manga through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This manga is actually a part of a manga duology with one in the narration of Belle and one in the narration if the Beast. This is the story of the Beast. 🙂
I love the fairy tale of The Beauty and the Beast and I enjoyed the movie adaptation with Emma Watson quite a lot. The whole movie is lovely and it has beautiful songs. These mangas reminded me the movie but sadly it was a pale shadow of the magnificence of the movie. Lots of sweet and funny scenes were omitted and without the Beast’s Tale Belle’s Tale would have been too sparse for a good story…🙄
Out of the two stories I liked the Beast’s Tale the best! Beast was a deeper and more interesting characters. Also he had the most of insight into his curse and interaction with his servants which were probably the best parts of the story…😉 But read together the mangas made a decent whole story. 😊

I loved it just as much as I loved Belle's perspective. The only big problem that I had with it was that there were many scenes that were exactly the same as the ones we saw in Belle's perspective. But apart from that, it was enjoyable to read and I loved experiencing again the story from Beauty and the Beast.

I was given a free advanced copy in exchange for my own honest opinion. Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers, and author.

Is the art beautiful? Yes, Will I be buying these? Also yes because I love this story and I'm an advocate for more colored Mangas. This is definitely more a western style manga, but I'll still take it.

I mentioned the major similarities between Belle's and Beast's Tale in my review for Belle's story. Yes it's to be expected since they are the same story. But I just wanted a little more than their thoughts for similar scenes. especially from Beast's side of the story since this was based off the live action Disney film (where we did get a ton of new back story from him). Could have even given the side characters more.

Thank-you NetGalley and TOKYOPOP, Disney Manga for the chance to review this ARC.

Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Disney Princess movie so when I saw that this was a telling in the Beast perspective I flipped. I love duel narration in books, It gives the story so many more layers.
The story follows the Live Action Beauty and the Beast film and that movie did a really good job at showing more of the Beast. I loved the illustrations here and the Beast's inner monologue it gave the story more live and it was simply wonderful.

This is a must for Disney lovers!

Even though I did not love this book, this was a more interesting version of the two narratives. I liked reading the Beast's background.

Imagine reading Beauty and Beast in a live animation Manga edition. The color scheme worked really well to set the mood. It took me a while to understand how to read (the instructions are the end, which I read after finishing the book. That’s the trouble with e-copies), and yet, it felt as if the dialogues didn’t follow the same pattern throughout.
I love how the servants are creepy cute. Sounds like an oxymoron, but the book had The Addams Family vibes (one of my favorite shows as a kid). Reading the Beast’s POV was interesting. His vulnerability came out well, even though the book seemed a bit rushed. Guess it’s probably because of the format.
I’m not sure how much I enjoyed the live animation art. Some of it was superb. However, in some scenes, the expressions seemed forceful. Maybe that’s how it’s done. I confess I have almost no knowledge of this art form. I requested the ARC just to enjoy the fairytale in the full-color edition.
To sum up, the Beast’s version is a good take on the original and adds depth to the storyline. I love the illustrations of the rose in the glass jar. The magic and power translate to the page perfectly.
Thank you, NetGalley and TOKYOPOP, Disney Manga, for the ARC(s) in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
