*Thanks to Netgalley for giving me an ARC*
I do love Beauty and the Beast as it is my favorite. The colors and drawings are stunning but I do wish we would have a little more insight to Beast's life before the curse.
I was really excited when i finally got this as an arc but after reading it i must admit that it kind of disappoint me because the story is just the same as the original tale. I would still give it a 3 star rating because the illustrations are gorgeous.
I loved the original Beauty and the Beast animated movie, it shone brightly during my childhood. The modern live action adaptation, however, I was pretty lukewarm about, even though I really liked the new musical number, Evermore. I was really curious when I saw this manga and its companion one of the Belle's perspective, as I'm a long time lover and reader of manga, and Beauty and the Beast, as it turns out, is something that's still close to my heart. I read Belle's Tale first and this one second. I did enjoy this one more, but I think that's due to knowing more about Belle/from Belle's perspective, so more content in here felt new and fresh. I really like how the two books work together, it isn't necessary to buy both, but they are more enjoyable together. The art is really nice, although I wouldn't describe the style as classical manga, that doesn't at all detract from it; if anything, this more westernized style suits the story better. Overall, it was an enjoyable read. I didn't give it five stars because I personally found it a bit derivative, but that really can't be helped because of what it is. I think any Beauty and the Beast enthusiast will like this book and its companion Belle's Tale.
This is the manga version of the live action movie of Beauty and the Beast. It's in full color! The color palette for Beast's Tale were darken hues: blues and blacks and shades of grey. Compared to Belle's version, the colors were darker (intentionally so). The story line does focus on Beast's point of view and perspective of the events that take place within the pages. And some of his thoughts made me think and some made me sympathize with his plight.
I loved how the characters were drawn. And I found the minor differences from the movie delightful - Belle reads to the Beast from Romeo and Juliet and my English teacher heart beat with joy. I still giggled when I saw Chip and still swooned at Beast's gift of the library to Belle. All in all, it was a delightful retelling in manga style. I did enjoy this one slightly more due to the brooding nature of the beast and the background from his childhood that was delved into more.
I have a manga unit planned in my classroom and plan to add both to my collection for students to borrow.
Beautiful images! Loved the POV from the Beast! The formatting was a little off but manageable! Definitely worth getting this in full color!!
I was unable to give feedback on this title. I received approval for this request after the title had been archived.
Beautiful, vibrant artwork! That was the first thought I had when opening this book. This is the story of Beauty and the Beast, with the focus on the beast and his life. It was so similar to the books and movies that are already out there but with some gorgeous drawings on top of it. The story wasn't the best version, however. I am so used to reading this with more emphasis on Belle and many of the characters that live in the palace with the Beast. Even so, I truly enjoyed this and think it is a must for all Disney Collectors.
I found the artwork in this manga to be absolutely stunning. Story true to the live action movie. The imagery used is perfect for the character’s perspective.
A really quick enjoyable read. Perfect for Disney fans and those who love to read manga.
The artwork was beautiful and I really loved how it portrayed the Beast's own story.
Thanks to NetGalley for the eArc.
I think this is such a cool idea of Disney to turn some of their movies into manga. I am a big fan of Beauty and the Beast and I enjoyed the live action version. I like how they adapted the movie into a manga. I also like how they divided it up into Belle's and Beast's tale. I like the story from their points of view. The art style is very beautiful.

First want to thank Netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this in exchange for an honest review! Just like the first book I was excited to read this one as well. I really love seeing Beast's side of things since the story really just focuses on Belle. His backstory is just really sad but at the same time I can see why he turned out the way he did. Like the first book the coloring was done well and the only complaint about the manga is how some of the characters are drawn. There were just a bit off. Other than that it was a pretty good read!
Beauty and the Beast is a wonderful fairytale and I love watching both the animated and live-action version. Reading this tale in manga form was great! The illustrations are beautiful and the overall feel of the story remains, even when the pictures aren't moving ;)
I love how they split Belle's and the Beast's story for this manga, it brings a new dimension to the story even though I already know it so well.
The Beast's story is darker than Belle's and I really like how they made that distinction in the books.
3.5 stars rounded up.
This second installment of the manga adaptation of Disney's live action film version of their animated "Beauty and the Beast" film is so much better from Beast's POV than it was from Belle's, for the most part because Disney seems to have listened to years of critiques to their interpretation of Beast's origin story, and has done their best to fix it. At least, that's how I see it, and think they've done a good job fixing the issue, because as I've always mentioned in my reviews whenever Disney's version is used as the basis for retellings, my one major problem with it is that I've never agreed that their origin story for Beast meshed with the spirit of the French fairy tale.
And, whilst it's not a perfect fix, I think it's great! It goes so well with Disney's own spin on Madame de Beaumont's version of the fairy tale, which is the one they retold, and it keeps its core theme of redemption for past mistakes, a key element of the original fairy tale. I liked their expansion of the story of the curse, what led to it, why Beast acted like he did towards the enchantress that cursed him. The expanded origin story not only humanises Beast but, pretty important to me personally, it shows that Beast was a victim himself and allowed that victimisation to warp his soul. I like how the young prince evolves internally, how you can glimpse his wounded humanity fighting to come through the beastliness, and how he wants to better himself in spite of continuously falling prey to his bad temper. He truly reforms himself! And it's heartwarming to see.
As a critique, I'd say that the manga adaptation would've probably worked better if Belle's POV and Beast's POV were inserted one after the other in a continuum instead of split into two separate volumes. Why? Because the Beast's Tale volume overlaps with scenes from the Belle's Tale volume, resulting in repetitive scenes that bloat the story. Some of the scenes we already saw from Belle's POV in the first book are repeated rather than elaborated on differently. And also, the abruptness in transitioning from one chapter to the next is still there, although it flows better by virtue of Beast's POV being both more inward-looking and more artistically panoramic/big picture in its depiction of scenes. And finally, I think Beast is a bit too obviously handsome through that animal face the curse bestowed on him, as if he's wearing make up and a lion mane wig instead of having a truly animalistic head like in the animated film, where he was both truly beastly and ugly and with an imposing ferocity, as he should be.
Anyway, I enjoyed this very much! They toned down the preachiness that was seeping in from Belle's POV, too. And I think that the live action film's additions to Beast's story combined with the animated film's visuals together would make for the perfect retelling rather than just either alone.
This title is the flip side of Belle's tale. Whereas Belle's tale is following Belle's point of view this title is following Beast's point of view. We get the typical start to Disney's Beauty and the Beast, whereas we did not in Belle's Tale because it's not from Belle's point of view. We get Beast's origin story and learn about his parents and relationship with the servants in the castle and what happened to them. We get Beast's inner monologue which was very enlightening. We see, as Mrs. Pott's says to Beast, that Belle transforms Beast into a more caring person.
This manga followed the live-action movie of a few years ago very closely. But perhaps the relationship and plot progression was a bit abrupt and could prove confusing for people not already familiar with the story. However, it was enjoyable for me to get a glimpse inside the Beast's head and a first row seat to his inner monologue filled with defeatism and angst.
As a 90's kid the original animated movie and it's drawing style holds a special place in my heart, but I still very much enjoyed this new re-imagining and redesign with more anime-inspired illustrations.
The coloring chosen for this manga and the transition from darker and in colder tones (blues, greens and grays) to brighter, happier colors, really managed to depict the loneliness and sadness of the Beast and his change of heart as he fell in love with Belle.
All in all, I think this would appeal to all Disney lovers be them young or old.
3.5⭐

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I have to say that I loved the Beast's part of the story more than the one from Belle. It was more interesting to follow and to see things from his side of the story. I liked the colorful and vibrants illustrations, it was enjoyable to read and I hope there will be other books with the princes' POVs, it might be interesting.
Thank you Netgalley and TOKYOPOP for the opportunity to read this manga.
As I have said, Beauty and the Beast is my favorite movie. I was enchanted by the story and the music.
This manga is the adaptation from the live-action movie.
I really think that there can be more from the point of view of the Beast/Adam, more thoughts and scenes.
Hope to see more movies been adapted into mangas.
The beast point of view in another precious telling in manga format and I am completely surrendered to this wonderful story(again) Here We take a look on what's going on prince Adam's mind and what made He be cursed and act like a monster, when He was jus a gentle and naive boy who always wanted to be loved by someone for what he truly was. This is about a love who look beyond what its seen.
Excellent full color manga of beauty and the beast. Love how they portrayed the beast in this volume. And how the cover matches with Bell's. Perfect for Disney fans, beauty and the beast fans and fans of princesses. Great pick for children too.
I liked the illustrations in this one than to that of Belle's tale. I loved the dark colorings and features in here. Just like Belle's tale, I loved how the story of Beauty and the Beast in the Beast's POV was condensed well in this one volume. The narrative was still there despite having a short amount of pages, and we really get to dive deep into the Beast's feelings and emotions as well as his internal struggles.
