This was a cute story version of the classic story beauty and the beast. Love the art style told in an anime. Definitely something to check out.
Beauty and the Beast from Belle's point of view. The art work was incredible and colorful. If you like Disney and manga you will love this. Thank you to NetGalley, TOKYOPOP, Disney Manga, and Mallory Reaves for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Beauty and the Beast has always been one of my favorite Disney movies and Belle is one of my absolute favorite characters. I mean of course I love books so I always really related to her.
I think I would have enjoyed this a little more if the formatting was a little better for a digital copy. It was really hard to read at times. I still enjoyed the book though!
Beauty and the Beast (1991 version) is my favorite Disney movie. I've always loved this story, to the point that I've done my best to consume all mediums of entertainment that is either a retelling of this story or inspired by this story.
With that said, I'm also a big fan of anime and manga, so when I saw this iteration of Beauty and the Beast, I knew I had to read it.
I want to start by saying these books are based on the live action 2017 movie, which it follows pretty closely.
The art in these books are beautiful. The colors are gorgeous and everything is just so beautifully done. The story is the same one we've come to know and love, but this version is told from Belle's point of view, so to get the full story, you definitely also need to read Beast's Tale.
I enjoyed this book, but there were a couple continuity issues as far as English/Japanese translations in a couple areas, as well as instances where the pages went from turning in the proper manga direction (right to left) to a comic book direction (left to right). Hopefully this was just an ARC thing and was fixed prior to publishing.
Other than those things, I enjoyed this book, even if just for the illustrations. 3.5 stars
Thank you NetGalley for the review copy!
Beauty and the beast is one of my all time fairy tales, It's also my favorite Disney movie but the live action and animated. So I love the story in any format. And this Manga version brought it to life in a whole new way.
Wait, what? There's a manga version of Beauty and the Beast that focuses on Belle's side of the story?! Why didn't anybody tell me about this? But seriously, Beauty and the Beast – Belle's Tale is a refreshing take on the tale, written by Mallory Reaves and illustrated by Gabriella Sinopoli Sinopoli and Studio Dice. Side note: It's also the first in a set. That's right! Beast also has a part to play in this.
If you ever wanted to get into Belle's head during the events of Beauty and the Beast, then you're in luck! This graphic novel covers all the same events that the classic Disney movie shows us, but it also gives us a chance to see what Belle is thinking.
I won't waste time summing up the plot of this story – I think most people probably know it by heart at this point. And those that don't have probably made a point of avoiding it and thus won't be much interested in this take.
I have to say that I enjoyed Beauty and the Beast – Belle's Tale. It was light and fun, the perfect break after a heavy read. Admittedly none of the insights were all that groundbreaking, but I wasn't exactly expecting any plot-shattering revelations, you know?
To address the artwork, we first have to discuss Beauty and the Beast – Beast's Tale. As a duology, both are intentionally illustrated and colored in different styles. Belle's has more of a classic shoujo anime style. It's bright and almost feels fluffy.
My biggest complaint about this graphic novel is that it was difficult to read. Some pages felt like they were written in American comic format (left to right), while others were in manga format (right to left). Maybe this was my review copy and not the published versions.
Beauty and the Beast from Belle's point of view. The art work was incredible just like in the second one. If you like Disney and manga you will like this.
Beauty and the Beast manga style, the Belle's Tale is the story that we all know, and some. It is similar to the movie one, so you can guess how the story goes. Still, its interesting to read again, since it is well drawn and captivating.
Thank you to Netgalley, Tokyo Pop and Mallory Reaves for the advance copy in exchange for a review. The story has some new scenes and twists that were good addition to the story. We see a glimpse of how Belle fell in love with the Beast, how she was able to connect with him. I like the graphics except for the inanimate objects like Mrs. Potts. Mrs. Potts looked especially scary. I read mine on the Kindle so there were no colors but I still appreciated it nonetheless.
This was a very beautiful retelling of the Beauty and the Beast told from Belle’s perspective! The artwork was filled with beautiful illustrations! I recommend this for both Disney and fairytale fans!
I'm a sucker for anything Beauty and the Beast, and a full-colour manga is definitely one that caught my eye. The illustration was beautiful. It was a quick read that I devoured happily in one sitting.
Full color manga style graphic novel of Belle's side of the Disney version of Beauty and the Beast. Originally released in 2017 in black in white. This is not only a full color edition of the manga the book is larger. Some really cool things are done that bring both books together. You do need to read both volumes in order to get the entire story.
Colors are so powerful. When the characters are feeling defeated the colors are muted as they get hope the colors brighten. It adds so much to the story. I read the 2017 version without color and the art was beautiful, but color added so much. Definitely worth buying even if you already had the previous edition.
Amazing adaption of Beauty and the Beast.

Graphic novel version followed the movie really well. The illustrations were very well done. Great beginners manga for kids moving out of the children's area and into the teen/adult range.
I'm not much of a Manga reader but it being disney made me interested. It was definitely different but I still enjoyed it.
Wow! A manga version of Beauty and the Beast? Sign me up please. This makes for a quick read between my heavier reads.
There’s nothing new here in the story that we don’t already know but this Is actually a manga adaptation to the live movie in 2017. There are two volumes - one focusing on Belle’s POV and the other on Beast’s POV. I love that they each have their own perspectives because it gives us an insight into what their thoughts are and helps us appreciate the plot better.
In Belle’s story, we learn more about how she really feels being an outcast in her town. There was also a glimpse into her background and where she had lived as a child. I enjoyed how the story flowed but I felt that some parts ended quite suddenly, like it was cut short.
The illustration was were nicely done and although this follows a manga style, reading from right to left, some of the dialogues did not follow this which can be a little confusing. Overall, this was a nice and enjoyable read. I also felt like watching the movie again after this!
Thank you NetGalley and Tokyopop for the arc.
Belle's Tale is half of a manga set of the Beauty and the Beast tale, this volume from Belle's point of view.
The artwork is lovely and designed to evoke the emotional changes Belle experiences, starting at happiness with her father, then fear and worry, and eventually happiness with the Beast. This is a great introduction to manga for new readers. There is a bit of repetition between this volume and the one from Beast's point of view, replicating the artwork and dialog.
I really enjoyed this manga version of Beauty and the Beast told from Belle's perspective.
It's colourful and describes the story perfectly.
Perfect for any fan new or old.
A neat visual depiction of the classical “Beauty and the Beast” story told from Belle’s point of view! The pages are in warm and cold colors which perfectly depict the personalities of the two main characters. Even though there are 160 pages of manga, they are easy to read and the story sticks as much as possible to the original story.
Special thanks to NetGalley, TOKYOPOP, Disney Manga, and the author for giving me the opportunity to review the ARC, and to you, my reader, for taking the time to read this honest personal book review.

A really wonderful tie-in with the movie, that also adds a lot to the original story. beautiful and fun, with glimpses into the way Belle thinks throughout the story. Makes the love story that much sweeter.
Disney's Beauty and the Beast is one of the greatest animated features I saw when I was younger.
And when I heard that a manga version of it was coming out, I had to read it.
We have here the story presented from Belle's point of view in Belle's tale, the manga follows the plot of the Disney movie.
The drawings are really pleasant to the eye and are quite close to film.
We also discover what happened to Belle's mother, at least I don't think I remember the movie talking about it...
I won't dwell too much on this tome but it's still a must-read for all fans of Beauty and the Beast.
I was more interested in the other volume: Beast's tale, where the story is told from the point of view of the Beast.
We discover a little more about the past of our cursed prince and especially about the relationship he had with his father, the same relationship that transformed the young innocent child into a haughty man and indifferent to the misfortune of others until the day he crossed the path of a certain enchantress.
Two interesting companion books which bring a new life to the Disney classic and could make a new generation want to discover this magnificent movie that deals with subjects like rejection, acceptance and the right to be different.
The Beast, having never known any kindness since the death of his mother, had no one to explain and show him the meaning of love.
Having only known his father's rejection, he has never known how to deal with others and has become even more withdrawn since the curse began.
