The art in this book was awesome. This is a great book even if you are not familiar with the story. Great for all ages. Loved the new-ish perspective from Belle.Getting a better insight into her thoughts and feelings was nice from previous versions I have seen and read. I would say it was a nice mix from the Disney original animated version and the newer Disney live action version with Emma Watson. Would of loved a bit longer book with a bit more details, I was definitely sorry when it ended. Will look for other books by this author in the future for sure.

First and foremost, I'd like to express my gratitude to Netgalley and Tokyopop for providing me with an e-ARC of this manga.
Summary: Belle, an intelligent, charming, and independent young woman, is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle in Disney's live-action blockbuster "Beauty and the Beast." Despite her anxieties, she befriends the castle's enchanted staff and learns to see past the Beast's terrible exterior to the genuine Prince's kind heart and spirit inside. In this full-color manga-style graphic novel, Belle's positive view of the world is depicted through soft, warm, and vibrant colors, which explores Belle's innermost thoughts as she learns that genuine beauty comes from inside.
Beauty and the Beast is one of my all-time favorite Disney animated and live-action films. As a lover of the film and tale, I appreciated how well this manga depicted Belle's point of view. Aside from that, the illustrations were simply stunning. Colorful and vibrant.🤍
Despite how Belle felt at the beginning of the story, the colours used were bright because she has a positive outlook and wasn’t depressed and this was expressed in colours. I loved the colours and so did my 8 month old when I read it to her; she loved the colours so much. I gave this 5 out of 5 stars because the drawing was well represented for the manga style and the change in colour scheme to represent emotions was fantastic. There is a second manga that goes with this which is from Beast’s POV; check out my review for that on my blog.
*This was originally released in 2017 and then they released it again in a full color edition.* This was so cute! I loved the art style, everything was so beautiful and detailed. I'm glad they re-released it in full color, I don't think I would've liked the B&W edition as much to be honest. The only thing that I disliked was the writing seemed awkward sometimes. Like it was going too fast and skipped a line or two. The story is still great and if you know beauty and the beast this won't really be a big deal. Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for providing me with an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
Its the familiar story we all know and enjoy. The color tones are brighter and match belles imagry. While the story wont have any suprises it is still an enjoyable read. If you are familiar with Manga or Manhwa the reading style is no issue. I would recommend this set just for the imagery alone.
Belle is perhaps one of my favorite Disney characters of all time. The animated Beauty and the Beast is the first movie I ever saw in a movie theater. So, it holds a special place in my heart.
That being said, this fully illustrated manga immediately caught my eye. While it didn’t disappoint, I wish I had also read the Beast’s POV along with Belle’s.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this beloved classic in manga format.
The manga illustrations for both Beauty and Beast's tales are stunning. Please read both volumes to read the whole fairytale. The manga focuses on the Disney live-action film, not the Disney animated film.
In this volume, Beauty's Tale shares the clever and loving bibliophile's innermost thoughts of the world and desires to learn more about the Beast with patience and kindness. The bright and soft color palette in Beauty's volume balances the Beast's dark and cool palette and how much of an influence she is to the Beast. Perfect for Disney's Beauty and the Beast fans to add into their collections!
THESE ARE SOOOO COOLLLL
I love all of the manga translations of different fairtytales and Shakespeare and different classics
its just fun to read them in a different way
and better for those who want to see the visual, like younger audiences :D
super amazing art!
Disney Manga: Belle's Tale was based on the live action movie instead of the animation that came out in 1991.
I really love the manga illustration for this beauty and the beast and seeing it from Belle's POV. The color of the art is bright and beautiful which portrayed Belle's character in the story.
Although, the flow of the story sometimes confuse me. Manga was supposed to be read from right to left just like the instruction on how to read the book. However, there are some parts in the story makes more sense when I read it from left to right.
Also I saw some words weren't translated in English. But, there wasn't many of them so I could still easily enjoy the book.
Overall, this is a wonderful and beautiful manga illustration of beauty and the beast.
I'm looking forward to seeing the other book from Beast's POV!
If you want to pick this up make sure to pick up the Beast's Tale too in order to read the full story of this fairytale.
Thank you to Netgalley, Mallory Reaves and TOKYOPOP for granting me this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Loved it! The story flowed as a tale as old as time - get it? And it still remains a gem with this graphic novel. I can’t wait to own the physical copy of this + the beast manga! The covers are brilliant aligned next to each other.
Would definitely recommend if your a BATB fan.
Design
The design of the manga is beautiful! I’m really thrilled. Not only the cover is an eye-catcher, but also every single side of the manga. The characters are of course based on the movie, but nevertheless they look unique and new. Breathtakingly beautiful!
Action
The plot is exactly as you already know it. You shouldn’t expect any surprises or innovations, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing. The story of Belle and the Beast is and remains a beautiful fairy tale that can be read and loved at any time. It just doesn’t get old or boring.
Nevertheless, I have minor criticisms about the manga. There were sometimes a few leaps in time that irritated me while reading. They took me out of the story and disrupted the flow of reading. I would have liked the time leaps to be marked.
In addition, I found the reading a bit lengthy in places.
Conclusion
Despite the well-known story, this manga is unique and gives the fairy tale a new shine. I like the design very, very well and the story is also beautiful. I’m looking forward to the second volume!

Gestaltung
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
This Beauty and the Beast Manga tells the story of Beauty and the Beast, but particularly Belle's side of the tale. Inspired directly by the live-action film adaptation of the Disney Beauty and the Beast story, this manga offers a quick and fairly faithful adaptation of the film.
I don't think I really have much to say about this manga. As a Beauty and the Beast fan, it was fun to read through Belle's familiar story in manga form. I enjoyed a lot of the art -- though I thought the Beast's face generally lacked depth -- and I particularly appreciated the how-to-read-manga guide.
Overall this was a solid, fun experience, although for readers who aren't fans of the live action film, this may not be the best read.
I received a copy of this manga through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This manga is actually a part of a manga duology with one in the narration of Belle and one in the narration if the Beast. This is the story of Belle. 🙂
I love the fairy tale of The Beauty and the Beast and I enjoyed the movie adaptation with Emma Watson quite a lot. The whole movie is lovely and it has beautiful songs. These mangas reminded me the movie but sadly it was a pale shadow of the magnificence of the movie. Lots of sweet and funny scenes were omitted and without the Beast’s Tale this would have been too sparse for a good story…🙄
Out of the two stories I liked the Beast’s Tale the best! Beast was a deeper and more interesting characters. Also he had the most of insight into his curse and interaction with his servants which were probably the best parts of the story…😉 But read together the mangas made a decent whole story. 😊
If you liked the live action movie, you will like this manga adaptation. The illustrations are incredible, and the story follows in detail what we already saw in the film starring Emma Watson. Perhaps I missed a bit more length in the final part, as I had the feeling of spending more time in the castle than in the conclusion, although I understand the reduction to fit the manga format. Besides, maybe that’s adapted in the Beast's part, which I haven’t read yet.
I was given a free advanced copy from Netgalley, but all opinions are my own. Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers, and author..
Beautiful edition in full color art. This fairytale retelling of Beauty and the Beast closely fit the live action Disney film minus the singing.
The story is a quick and easy read of the original tale. I think my only critique has to be that these didn't have to be separate books between Beast and Belle by the way these are written. Story wise the biggest differences I feel came at the beginning during Belle's start in the Village versus Beast's tale beginning before he's cursed. Other than that the story was basically the same just with Belle's thoughts instead of Beast's
Thank-you NetGalley and TOKYOPOP, Disney Manga for the chance to review this ARC.
I'm a Manga lover, and Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Disney Princess movie so having these two things together was just amazing!
I loved the art style here mixing both manga and the Disney traditional style was a great way to do this.
The story follows the Live Action Beauty and the Beast film from a few years ago.
I really enjoyed the detail here, from the facial expressions to the clothing.
This is a must for Disney lovers!
DNF at 24.7%. There was a scene where she decides to take her father's place and asks for a minute alone with him. She tells her old father that she loves him ... and then shoves him so hard that she actually sends him flying. I mean, her father is really old. What if he fell down and broke his legs or ribs or something? It's super dangerous. I found this violence so disturbing that I couldn't force myself to keep reading.
Perhaps I'm not the audience for these books, but I found this book to be not interesting. I found the Beast's version to be better.
I thank NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book. This is one of my favourite fairy tales and reading the manga made me feel so happy!
Okay, first things first. This is based on Disney’s live-action version of “Beauty and the Beast” released in 2017. (I’m a fan of the original Disney animated movie released in 1991 but the 2017 version is pretty good too.)
I don’t need to sum up the story this time, right? Everyone knows “Beauty and the Beast”. This is a faithful rendition of the original “tale as old as time”. To a great extent, having familiarity with the movies will help you appreciate the plot better because there are a couple of abrupt scene changes and skips in the narrative. Of course, if you know the original fairy tale, that would help too. But the movie will make a difference to your experience.
I’ll focus mainly on the manga aspect of this book. This is part of a two-volume manga series which was originally released in 2017, just after the movie. This latest edition is the full colour version of the original B&W manga. (Obvious then that this is aimed at the Western audience. Japanese manga is almost always in B&W.) The colouring for the two books has been done in two distinct styles, to represent the personality of its lead characters. This version, which comes to us from Belle’s point of view, is painted in a style inspired from shoujo anime (manga aimed at young girls.) Thus the colours are bright and quite fluid. They don’t hit your eyes by being very flashy. They suit Belle’s story perfectly.
The illustrations are wonderful, drawn in typical anime style. Beauty especially is a joy to behold. However, some of the panels (or koma) are blurry. This spoils the effect of the overall illustrations. There are a couple of speech bubbles where the script isn’t in English. I am not sure if this is a problem only in the ARC version.
At the same time, the manga in the book isn’t consistent. Traditionally, manga stories are read from right to left and from top to bottom, in the same way as Japanese writing. However, this book mixes this up many times. So some pages come in the traditional order while some other pages are in the Western left-to-right order. This becomes confusing while reading. Either way would have been fine by me; having both is what creates the problem.
Overall, I did like this manga, but not as much as I had expected. I’d rather watch the movie again instead. I am yet to read the second book in this series, which comes from the point of view of the much misunderstood Beast. I’m looking forward to that one as it would be a perspective not seen in the movies. Let’s hope that book goes better.
3.25 stars from me.
My thanks to TOKYOPOP and NetGalley for the DRC of “Disney Manga: Beauty and the Beast - Belle's Tale (Full-Color Edition)”. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.
