Thank you to NetGalley for this arc. Going in to this manga knowing that it came after the 2017 movie, I relaly enjoyed it. I really love the beautiful artwork in this and how bright and soft the colors are in this version of the manga
I grew up on Beauty and the Beast, and it has a special place in my heart.
This manga interpretation warmed my soul so much. The illustrations were spot on, exactly what you would want from the story.
I read the whole thing in one sitting, with a smile on my face!
It did pull slightly more from the newer live action version, as opposed to the older cartoon version.
Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorites! So I knew I had to read this manga! I really enjoyed Belle’s tale! I loved the art and the colors that were used to make her side of the story! It was gorgeous. I did have a hard time with the flow of the story though. It tended to read from right to left and then from left to right so it got a little confusing at times. But overall, I really enjoyed this. Thank you so so much to the Publisher and Netgalley for the arc in return for an honest review!
I absolutely adore beauty and the beast so I knew I was going to love this. Its a manga version of the 2017 movie so don't go in expecting the original story. The art work so so detailed and gorgeous and AMAZING in full-colour! It was also a super quick read.
Review to come March 20th to blog/goodreads.
I received this book from Netgalley/the publisher in exchange of an honest review.
I was very much hyped about this graphic novel with manga-style art. I love Belle and the Beast and I always love reading books about it, either original, retelling, or whatever else is out there. XD
In this book we follow Belle. We all know the story of how things go. Dad disappears, Belle goes after him, she meets the Beast. Stays there. Romance blooms. Drama happens. But despite knowing all the story, despite it not bringing anything new, it was still fabulous to read. And I just love Belle. She is so strong, yes the comments and remarks of people hurt her... but she stays strong and true to herself. I love that she loves to read. I wish we had seen just a bit more of that in this one. We see it at the beginning, but then when she gets to the Beast it just gets less. I would have loved to see that library way more! Also, can I just step in the story? I want to check out all those books~
The ending was just as dreamy as it always was. It made me smile! Though really Beast just keep your hair the way it was when you turned because those curls... no.
However, make up your mind on the text direction. It went from left to right to right to left. It was utterly confusing. Go with one or the other, but don't do both. I had to re-read several pages (and some I just gave up on because there was too much dialogue and too little sense) and that is just not something you want your readers to do. That is also why it lost 1 star.
The art was pretty OK (I do love that this edition is all colour, it made things come to life more), but at times things were just odd. Facial expressions for instance. The furniture was a tad off/weird. Proportions didn't always seem to go right (I had a laugh at how big that carriage was from the inside it went from being house sized to being barely big enough to contain two people). And why was everything so blurry at times? It was truly a shame, I do hope that in the edition that is coming out it will be fixed and that this is just something the ARC has.
All in all, despite some issues, I still had fun reading this one and I am glad I had the chance to read it. I am not sure if I will be reading the Beast's tale, while I like his POV, Belle's is still my favourite. And again, the text directions being all over the place.. not a motivation.
(First of all, thank you NetGalley and Publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest opinion)
Starting with the fact that my favorite Disney film is Beauty and the Beast is hard for me to not love anything related to it. So, of course, I love reading this manga. I read Beast's Tale and I enjoy the story told again by Belle's POV. In Beast's Tale, I love the Beast draw (more than Belle) but now I think I love both of them. The story and the ARC of this manga are about the Disney live-action plot. I love more the animation, though. Maybe I would try to make another version, not related to any of the movies, but still, I will always love all Beauty and the Beast adaptations.
Just as lovely as The Beast’s Tale. I found this one leans in more towards the live-action films dialogue and plot points versus how The Beast’s Tale blends both films together, but it was still enjoyable to read.
What I loved about both stories is that the reader gets insight into what both Belle and the Beast are feeling in each of these scenes. It’s really sweet, especially when they’re read back to back.
Gaston seemed like more of a jerk, if that’s even possible? He was almost comedically irritating, which was fantastic because I really think that was needed without Le Fou singing his praises throughout like he does in the films.
Pulling attention away from his character in the last book was a bit confusing, mainly because of have the films memorized, but I almost wish that in Belle’s version they kept the scene where he ends up face down in the mud after his failed proposal. He’s a character you love to hate.
Overall I really liked Belle’s narration, and seeing the progression behind her and the Beast’s growing relationship. Oh, and the iconic “I love you” scene, I was so happy it was included!
Beauty and the Beast is one of my all-time favourite fairytales so there's no doubt I love the story, regardless of adaptation. It's my first time seeing it in manga though so this was an interesting and enjoyable read.
The flow was a bit confusing for me: Sometimes you have to read left to right (the speech bubbles), sometimes you have to read right to left (the panels and speech bubbles).
I also feel like the artwork had a lot of potential but left quite a bit to be desired. The illustrations and colours themselves are beautiful, but turned out looking blurry and low-res. Not sure if it's because of the format but I hope the actual book will look as beautiful as it should, or it would be such a shame.
A beautiful full-color Beauty and the Beast manga!
I actually really loved that this story followed the live-action film rather than the animated film. It was a refreshing change. The one thing that I found a bit disappointing was how the story was pieced together. There were places it felt a little disjointed or lacking, like it skipped to a new scene before it should have.
Overall, a wonderful story for anyone that loves Beauty and the Beast!
Huge thank you to Disney Manga/TokyoPop via NetGalley for the e-ARC to read and honestly review.
The colorful art was beautiful and it is a nice story. I love Beauty and the Beast. I enjoyed reading Belle’s POV.
2 stars - It was ok
This manga version of Beauty and the Beast was ok. This one is Belle’s POV of the events that happened. This is based on the newest live action movie, not the original animated film. Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Disney film so I was very disappointed that I did not enjoy this manga. The reason why I didn’t enjoy this manga very much was the art style. The proportions were off in some of the panels for Belle and was a bit jarring at times. The coloring really washed out any details in the characters and made half of the panels just seem blurry. Also some of the servants were very creepy looking, like Mrs. Potts.
I really enjoyed this!! The Beauty and the Beast manga shows the classic tale through the eyes of Beast while the Belle manga shows the tale through the eyes of Belle, who's perspective we've already seen from the show. The drawings and colorizing were super eye catching in this manga, and the drawings added an element of enjoyment here that can't be recreated by watching the movie or reading novelizations.
I was a bit jarred by how similar the prince and Belle look after he changes from the Beast--they look like siblings! But other than that I really enjoyed these mangas!
This manga follows the 2017 Beauty and the Beast movie from Belle's perspective. We see her as she learns to see the Beast's true self despite his exterior.
Very good and fast it captured the most important part
That looks doesn't matter its actually what's deep inside that counts very good and very quick read
This manga follows Belle’s side of the story in Beauty and the Beast. It is based off of the 2017 live action film. This manga originally released the same year as the film but it is being rereleased in full color, which is amazing. The art is really gorgeous and having the full color really adds to the overall story. This doesn’t add anything that wasn’t in the movie but it was still a really fun read. I love Beauty and the Beast so much so I will glad consume every iteration of it that I can find.
I thought it was very interesting that this volume used bright pretty colors and the Beast volume uses a lot of dark colors. This is definitely a book that I will be buying a finished copy of when it releases.
A quick, lovely read. Gorgeous script and illustrations. It took me right back to seeing the movie. Love that the story was after the live action rather than the animated version.
“A tale as old as time”
I just love Disney and fairytales. Honestly they are what is probably one of the few things I’ve carried and held dear since being a child. Reading this quick anime style, was quite the experience. I have two others with similar read style and this was up there with them quality wise, smidge different reading on the tablet it kept trying to jump me back up so I’d constantly have to scroll and refind the part I was trying to read.
Story is just the same as the Disney live action , sorta attempts to mimic it art wise looking like the actors and actresses but the colorful art was well done and story one old and new would love to read.
I would have liked this a lot more if they had based it off the original animated movie, but instead it follows the slightly different plot of the newer live-action film and gives the characters that design, which makes all the castle servants look super creepy (especially Mrs. Potts).
