We need more books like this. There are too many stories about LGBTQ+ angst with bittersweet endings. Sometimes we need to see what happens after the happy ending.
Yuujirou and Rui have dated for years, and are now third-years in high school. Rui remains tall, while Yuujirou can fit in his lap. Literally! It's one of the first panels.
Still, what does "after" mean now that they're together. Does it mean solely fending off girls that think athletes are available? How does one focus on entrance exams and a future? They both have to find out.
These two do have great chemistry, and some steamy scenes. I do wish the character designs were stronger, but I had a lot of fun reading.
Always love a good Yoai. Cute art style as well as a cute story. Not to spicy. Definitely would like to see more.
Dekoboko Bittersweet Days by Atsuko Yusen is a cute continuation of Dekoboko Sugar Days. There's a little more drama in this second volume than in the first, and overall, it's a great read for those who want a character focused BL comic to read.
Love love love this manga!!!!!! I am a huge BL (boys love) fan. Give me all the things BL related!! I love how genuine Yuujirou and Rui are with each other about their feelings. My heart melted when Rui asked YuYu if he would rather him be a girl and YuYu said he didn't care what gender Rui was to him Rui was just Rui. Their families being so supportive was so sweet. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!!!!!
This story was cute and fun! A good palette cleanser between reads. I will for sure recommend it to my friends. In fact I want to go get the physical :)
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me free access to the digital advanced copy of this book.
A simple yet sweet sequel that pulls at the heartstrings. Although it tried to include a few plot points to introduce conflict, there were times when it felt slightly cliché. Overall, an easy but lovely read.
A very sweet and nice sequel, that everyone who enjoyed the first one will. love. Pushed the story forwards and had many good moments but wasn't really necessary overall.
This was absolutely delightful and they are definitely my favorite. They are truly adorable and I could read endless chapters of them. While I do prefer the first volume this was really good.
Dekoboko Bittersweet Days is the second novel in the Dekoboko Sugar Days series, and it is such a happy and fun series. If you're looking for a quick escape into a world of romance and humor, this is the series for you.
What happens when two friends who have known each other their whole lives realize that what they have is more than friendship? That is what Rui and Yuujirou are working to find out. First friends, now boyfriends, the two have a love that slowly blossomed over time.
Now that their love is out in the open, they can relish the sweet moments that come with companionship and true love. In this story, it is true that opposites attract – and stay together.
Dekoboko Bittersweet Days was such a cute follow-up! I enjoyed this story. Even though the story is mainly from Yuujirou's perspective, I feel like we get to know both characters equally, which is fantastic since their combined story carries the most weight.
I love that this series has taken the time to delve into healthy communication within a couple, emotional maturity, and many other elements that I feel most stories gloss over (especially teenage romances). It's a breath of fresh air.
Never before have I seen a series title so on the nose. Dekoboko Bittersweet Days is very sweet (with some steam mixed in, to be clear!), and it will work its way into your heart.
I don't mind the occasional romance story. It can be interesting to see different ways that characters interact with each other. I find that more difficult when it is the entirety of the plot. This one rests solely on the "will they/won't they" tension with no other plot elements keeping us engaged.
first of all thank netgalley for providing me with this manga.
tells us the story of two childhood friends, Rui, who during his childhood was small and adorable and easily passed for a girl and Yuujirou who was always more rude, as they grow their feelings change and they begin a love relationship. However, we do not focus on the beauty of first love, but on everything that comes with it, in their last year of high school, in clubs, in what they will say and how they manage to cope with all that.
And everything is well run, I have nothing bad to say, from the illustration to the story they tell. fully recommended.
I give it 4.5 stars out of 5
A super-cute continuation of the Dekoboko story! This volume is just as amazing as the first, and I highly recommend reading it!
I read the 1st book of this love story and like it. In this book we get to see what happens to the couple after they confess to each other and get together. Like the 1st book it's sweet and cute, I would recommend it.
A sweet, cute and refreshing bl manga that was undoubtedly very pleasant to read.
Deboboko Bittersweet Days follows Yuujirou and Rui who are childhood best friends and now..lovers. The book is set in high school. The boys are in their final year. With graduation looming, life presents them new hurdles. Yuujirou plans to be a architect and Rui, a fashion designer. Now they have to reconcile their career dreams with their mutual desire to stay together forever. They are in love with each other but afraid of confessing that to each other. And now that Rui is planning to go to France for studying, their blooming relationship faces the biggest challenge ever. Will the boys be able to overcome their fears and risk to choose an uncertain future where they might or might not stay together??
I was approved for the arc months ago and ended up taking too long to get around reading it. I'm slightly mad at myself for that. Because this manga was so cute! The characters were fleshed out nicely and they were so adorable. I loved how frequently and patiently they communicated with each other. And we all know communication makes a romance perfect, right? 😁 So, of course, I loved Rui and Yuujirou. The humor was wonderful too.
But still, I have to say that this manga wasn't anything special. The plotline wasn't unique. It felt to common and too generic. I read so many bl mangas, lots of which are so good, this one just fell flat for me. The steamy scenes were so awkward. Lots of parts and dialogues didn't make sense. The story moved faster than necessary. And the ending...it was unsatisfying. So, overall, it was a 3 stars read for me.
Rui and Yuujirou have been best friends since they were kids. Now that they confessed the feelings they’ve been harboring for each other, it should be smooth sailing. They haven’t told anyone about their relationship, but life is good until they face the possibility of a long-distance relationship. Will their relationship survive this bump in the road?
I’m going to be honest here. I’m a clown and didn’t realize this was the second in a series. That said, the opening of the book is a reminder of everything that went down in the first volume before kicking off the story, so I wasn’t lost at all. I will be reading the first volume, but as I write this review, I have not read it yet. I can say that it’s very easy to get into the story thanks to the refresher that’s intended for anyone who didn’t reread the first volume before digging in.
I absolutely loved the story from the start. It’s a very sweet story about best friends who have always known they were meant for each other. While I missed out on watching them confess their feelings and discover they feel the same way, I did get to see them in love and living their best lives. I also got to see them hit their first big struggle in their relationship, but I won’t mention if that’s resolved because that would be spoilers!
I loved every character that was featured. While I love Rui and Yuujirou, Rui’s brother is my favorite character in the book. I do wish we got to know the supporting characters more, but it’s entirely possible that we got to know them well in the first volume. I’ll find out when I read that. However, as it stands, some of the supporting characters fly through while others are there often but don’t get much character growth. If this series were to continue, that’s something I’d love to see.
All in all, I think it’s a wonderful love story full of funny and sweet moments. This is the second book I’ve read from Atsuko Yusen, and I’m excited to see what else they come up with. So far, this is the second cute and heartwarming story with a touch of humor that I’ve read from them and I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next.
Dekoboko Bittersweet days is the sequel to Dekoboko Sugar Days, and the story of sweet, affable Rui and athletic and intimidating Yuujirou. Friends from very young childhood, they have always been in love with one another and in this volume grow into adults and a more mature relationship.
The story starts during their last year of high school, as they are preparing to choose colleges and trying to steal moments together despite the scarcity of privacy. The boys try to keep their relationship a secret from their families and friends, concerned about disapproval and a lack of acceptance. They are very sweet and loving toward one another until Rui makes the decision to go to college in France, devastating Yuujirou at the prospect of separating for 4 years. Rui feels that without going away to grow as a person, he will not bring as much to the relationship nor be someone Yuujirou will be proud to be with for the rest of his life. How the two handle their families, their college years, and the years after college is told with sweetness and illustrates the boys growing maturity and appreciation of one another. Their tale is easy to follow without having read the first volume, but having read Bittersweet Days I'm now eager to read Sugar Days.
A great continuation from Dekoboko Sugar Days, Dekoboko Bittersweet Days adds a layer of conflict that the first volume seemed to lack. I did really enjoy seeing these characters again and watching them navigate their relationship.
I actually read this ARC unknowing that it was a sequel and now I cannot wait to read the first volume! It was such a good story within itself. I got attached to the characters extremely fast and the climax problem actually made me very sad. I'm so excited to go back and see where there relationship grew from.
Sweet, a pleasing art style, and with a focus on communication in relationships that is refreshing for the genre
He makes sure we talk before I get myself too bend out of shape
Enjoyable and I definitely would like to pick up the volume to which this book is a sequel!
Featuring Yuujiro Matsukaze, judo champion and quite short. Aspiring to be an architect he is quite short (Quit kissing my forehead. It just reminds me of how much taller you are) and occasionally bothered by that.
He is together with Rui Hanamine 186cm long, creative, half French, domestic and with a lot of housekeeping skills. Tall bottom representing one could say, which is good in a genre where height almost always is used as a signifier to one’s character.
The boys are in their final year of high school and in general they are quite clear eyed on the choices they need to make.
Yuujiro says: It’s already pretty incredible to make enough to live your life without any restrictions kind of fawning over the glitter of middle class financial stability.
And: Then again, it might be impossible to afford a stand alone house right away, which, definitely combined with the wish of a cooking island and a garden seems a realistic take on things (the Tokyo housing market, am I right 😂).
Seasons are chapters, and besides some steaming scenes, there is a focus on emotional maturity and talking things out instead of the trope of misunderstanding and misinterpretation growing out of hand. Very well done in that department and you really feel they are supposed to work together as a couple on that level. Also family and societal reaction is a source of anxiety, but is not problematic, a refreshing take as well.
There is some (maybe unintentional) humor as well, this cracked me up: This is not the time to moping. It’s time to get your butt in gear!, being said before a motorcycle ride. And one character expressing appreciation to another by saying: Even your faintly visible smile lines are lovely also had me chuckle.
Even the conclusion of not being limited by love and focussing on personal growth and happiness besides a focus on each other was really nice in messaging. Overall a well drawn story, with good subversion of what one might expect of the genre. Very enjoyable!
