I was impressed by Jaime Lynn Hendricks' debut novel and was thrilled to receive an ARC of her upcoming book, "A Lovely Lie." However, I must confess that "It Could Be Anyone" has been gathering dust on my NetGalley shelf for quite some time.
The story begins with a gripping chapter that will take your breath away! Trevor and Fiona exchange their vows, and everyone is enjoying the wedding reception when Trevor suddenly drops dead. His death is presumed to be from an allergic reaction, but it is being investigated as suspicious.
Fiona’s five college friends flew in from NYC to attend the Miami wedding. Although they all publicly praised Trevor, none of them meant it. The story jumps between different timelines and shows flashbacks of Trevor's conversations with each of Fiona’s friends. He blackmailed them into giving him the support he needed to encourage Fiona to go through with the wedding. Somehow, Trevor unearthed a dark secret each wanted to keep hidden and dangled it over their head. He was such a devious scumbag, he deserved what he got!
"Finding Tessa" was such an exceptional book. "It Could Be Anyone" was an intriguing story tucked within a stunning cover, but it didn't quite live up to the author's debut novel. I have a feeling “A Lovely Lie” will measure up and I’m excited to plunge in!

I was late to the party reading this one but I loved it! A group of best friends, a wedding where everyone is getting blackmailed by the groom and a whodunit vibe. It kept me guessing and intrigued!
A twisty page turner that was hard to put down! I'll be looking for more novels from this author for sure.
This was okay. I guess I just never found any of it particularly compelling. It was easy to follow and the premise was decent enough but the characters' motivations never quite came together for me.
A fairly classic "whodunit" mystery. At first I was worried that I would have trouble keeping all the characters straight, but after about 10% it was pretty clear in my mind. Oddly enough, the most interesting aspect of this book wasn't who the killer was, it was all the relationships and history between all the friends!

Everyone has secrets and it could be anyone who committed the murder of a man that some could justify...deserved it.
I was swept in right away with the soon to be deceased groom blackmailing all of his potential killers. What a great title and great cover. This was a fast-paced story that gave me total The Guest List vibes (Lucy Foley) which is one of my very faves.
It wasn't too difficult to keep track of the fairly large cast and I liked the short chapters. There were lots of twists, turns and back stories to keep me engrossed. Although I could not relate to any of these characters and none of them were particularly likeable the mystery still drew me in and with so many suspects I was eager to discover the killer which turned out to be a bit of a letdown for me.
This wasn't the spectacular thriller I hoped it would be, but it did hold my interest. Would read this author again.
Lots of drama and shocking secrets.
I'm late in posting this review but rest assured it is not from a lack of love. This book had me on the edge of my seat from the first page. The tragic death of the groom was a nice set up, before revealing that each member of the wedding party had a motive for his death. I really enjoyed the multiple POVs and different timelines, providing more depth to the relationships of the group. It definitely took some getting used to since there were so many characters to learn about, but it made for a fully fleshed out cast of devious suspects. The pace was on the faster side which I love, and the misdirection was executed perfectly.
An awesome thriller from one of my new favorite authors!
4/5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I recommend this book to readers who enjoy multiple POVs, characters with dark motives, and shocking secrets.
I was meh on this book. It starts off at a wedding with the groom being murdered at his reception and then goes back to tell the tale of a group of friends who all have reasons to murder him. They all had some serious secrets and none of them are very likable, including the groom, although he is the nastiest of the bunch.
It is a closed-door mystery which I love. Trying to figure out who the murderer is. It is a fun trope I do like to read and try to solve. But with this book, by the time I was halfway through, I found I just didn't much care which one killed him. And by the time you find out who it was, how they murdered him, it just felt like a bit of a let down. I did try to guess but never came close to the actual who/why.
If you are okay with all dislikable characters and love a closed-door mystery, give this book a read
This was addictive and full of twists. I enjoyed weaving through the mystery itself and the many secrets of the guests. Clever and entertaining.
IT COULD BE ANYONE by Jamie Lynn Hendricks is a fun and fast-paced whodunit!
The first chapter is told from the killer's POV and hooked me instantly! Trevor, the groom at a wedding, dies. He is an asshole and almost everyone has a motive to kill him. The story is told via multiple POVs -- the five friends of the bride and the groom. As the story unfolds , we learn that this group is MESSY and CHAOTIC and with friends like that, you don't need enemies.
Addictive and binge-worthy! Would recommend!
I loved this deceitful mess of a book! It opens with a tragedy at a wedding: the groom has died, possibly under suspicious circumstances. Come to find out, everyone in the wedding party had reason to want him dead.
I will say that there are a lot of characters to keep straight. The narration switches between the POVs of all the members of the wedding party and the timeline jumps from past to present, so it definitely takes some focus until you get the hang of the cast. I started this one on audio and admittedly got completely lost, so this is one book I really recommend reading a physical copy of.
The pacing was wonderful, and I was on my toes the whole time. I couldn't guess who the killer was, since everyone had motive and opportunity! This is the second thriller I've really enjoyed from Jaime Lynn Hendricks, so I can't wait to see what's next.
Five friends on their way to a destination wedding in Miami and they all have one thing in common aside from being close friends with Fiona, the bride: they all secretly hate the groom, Trevor and yet, they've all rooted for him in an effort to convince Fiona to marry him. Why? Because he's got a horrible secret about each and every one of them. And Trevor has no qualms with blackmail. So, when Trevor dies at the wedding, it's clear that foul play is afoot but the whodunnits run deep and so do the secrets!
Trevor is a complete and utter asshole.
And all the secrets! Seriously, so many secrets! I loved it!!
Fast-paced, twisty, and well-plotted!
I flew through this book and could not put it down. A propulsive and compelling thriller.
Thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for sending a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book, and look forward to future thrillers from Hendricks! Awesome story with lots of twists and mystery.
Why have I waited so long to read Jamie Lynn Hendricks’ books?? I could kick myself and am very much anticipating reading her newest one now! The writing is so well done, and the character and plot development kept me deeply invested in this story. The beginning gripped me with the revelation that the groom has died at his wedding and someone is all too happy to have been responsible for this death. Then the storyline goes back and forth from months previous, leading up to the wedding, as well as the wedding activities the week of the wedding. I truly thought it could have been any of the guests at one point or another. It was such a cleverly plotted novel, One that left me thinking, how do thriller authors pull this off? Hendricks is an extremely gifted author who I look forward to reading more of very soon!
4.5 stars
This opens at a destination wedding where the groom dies from an allergic reaction during the reception. Meanwhile, the killer watches everything unfold from a few feet away and we are left wondering why this has happened and who the culprit is. The thing is, It (literally) Could Be Anyone.
A solid whodunnit mystery with several POVs, plenty of motive, and cliffhangers galore to keep the pages turning. All of the characters had their own secrets that were slowly revealed throughout the story. Of course I tried to predict what they would be and I couldn’t have been more wrong. The way all of these came together and connected was so clever and well thought out.
I loved Finding Tessa by this author and this one was just as good. Check this out if you like a whodunnit mystery with lots of secrets.
3 for neutral, was unable to access my netgalley account for months, until today. Because of this, I was unable to see which books I needed to read. I apologize for the inconvenience and hopefully will not have any more issues in future.
Jaime Lynn Hendricks never misses with her incredible thrillers. Twisty, turny, and full of characters you'll love to hate. I can't wait to see what she'll do next.
Solid 3 star thriller about a group of best friends, with so many secrets you can’t even understand how they call each other best friends.
Fiona is marrying Trevor and all of her college friends are in the wedding party except none of Fiona’s friends like Trevor, in fact Trevor is blackmailing all of them to support their relationship and be part of the wedding.
Seriously though, the secrets are intense, some more so than others and if these secrets come out, friendships will be destroyed.
There were a few plot holes and sometimes I found some parts dragging on but overall if you love thrillers about toxic friendships then you’ll enjoy this!
*Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review*
Lies, secrets and a dead groom at the wedding - this one packs a punch!!
