This book was just ok for me, somewhat predictable, a group of people with secret and an evil man who is threatening them all. Someone kills him and we find out right at the end who did it. The characters didn't feel like real people to me, there was no one I really cared about
Awesome storyline, and a great new addition to classic who dun it books! A bit of a slow start but once it started going, the tempo really picked up.
What a ride! At first, I thought I might get lost in all of the perspectives, but I didn't and felt I had a good grasp on each character by the end of the book and nobody got left out. I really enjoyed the setting and how everyone was out of their comfort zone being in the Miami humidity for a wedding they resented. It brought so much to the surface and I felt like I was reading authentic human reactions and thoughts. The storyline was well paced, shocking and interesting.
A train wreck of characters in the juiciest way! What a wild ride. Everyone is hiding something and everyone has a motive are my favorite types of books!! Did not figure out the character that actual did it, so that was fun! A non stop roller coaster ride.
Jaime Lynn Hendricks is a new fav of mine after reading her debut novel Finding Tessa. I was super excited to see she had a new book coming out called It Could Be Anyone. This was a solid murder mystery about 5 best friends headed to a destination wedding in Maui. One turns up dead…and we now have a ‘whodunnit’ on our hands!
I loved the multiple POV’s and the short chapters in this book. We learn the victim early in the book, but that was okay with me. This was very fast paced and I was able to read in a couple of sittings. It was a total page turner. I liked getting to know each character and finding out what their secrets were. The ending was satisfying. I had my suspicions but was wrong- which I appreciate in a murder mystery. Figuring the ending out early is not fun for the reader, in my opinion.
I’ve become a huge fan of Jaime Lynn Hendricks. I find her books to be so interesting and I LOVE her writing style. With only 2 books currently written, I feel it’s safe to say that she will have many more books that are even more amazing headed our way!! Many thanks to NetGalley and to the publisher for an ARC. Loved the book and will definitely recommend to others.

It Could Be Anyone gave me The Guest List meets Pretty Little Liars & I was here for it! This story revolves around the wedding of Trevor & Fiona. Everyone loves a good wedding right? Well, maybe not everyone because by the end of the night, Trevor will be dead. It truly could be anyone seeing as none of their friends like Trevor for reasons nobody else knows. Every character has something big to hide & all of them are sus. We all love a good unreliable character 👀 Overall, Hendricks does a beautiful job telling this twisted tale & sets up the perfect “whodunit”. Thank you so much to @netgalley & Jaime Lynn Hendricks for allowing me to read this delicious arc. 🥰
It Could Be Anyone is available 5/10/22, make sure you get your hands on it!
It Could Be Anyone by Jaime Lynn Hendricks
Oh, this book was so good you guys!
Save the date for May 10, 2022. You're all invited to the shadiest wedding, ever!
When reading you can expect nobody to be who they say they are. An entire wedding party of close friends...There are several POVs in this one but don't let that overwhelm you. I never had any issue with keeping track of names and relationships.
The groom to be, Trevor is unlikeable and for GOOD reason. The author did an amazing job at making me instantly hate him yet, I couldn't stop turning the pages to know what this dude's deal was! He was a real peach.
This is a fast-paced thriller you will have trouble putting down. I enjoyed the ride it took me on. I'm also glad no weddings are coming up over on my end!
Many thanks to @netgalley @penzlerpub / @scarletsuspense @jaimelynnhendricksauthor for allowing me to read early!
It Could Be Anyone is expected to publish on 5/10/22
What a FUN and WILD ride!
It Could Be Anyone finds a close knit of college friends attending a wedding of one of their own to outsider Trevor. On the surface Trevor seems like a decent guy but the bride Fiona thinks the relationship may be moving too fast. Trevor, wanting to get in good and enjoy the advantages of Fiona’s political family by marrying her decides to bribe the close-knit group to make sure she says yes when he proposes.
The book starts off with Trevor’s inevitable and shocking demise at the wedding and then flashes back in between a couple of days before the wedding and 5 months prior when Trevor’s about to propose from each friend’s POV. Shocking and I mean really shocking secrets are revealed as Trevor approaches each friend with blackmail he has on each person and tells each one they better make sure Fiona says yes by talking him up and encouraging her about the relationship she’s doubting. Secrets within the group one doesn’t know about the other and secrets from their shady past thought to be long buried are all known by Trevor. I literally gasped out loud at some of the revelations.
The pacing of this book was fast as we got closer and closer to the wedding and the characters were perfectly terrible!
This was a 5* read and I really enjoyed it. Thank you to W. W. Norton Company and NetGalley for the EArc and the chance to review it! Be sure to get your copy of this excellent psychological thriller on May 10th, 2022!
This book was a whirlwind that I couldn’t put down.
It starts off with the groom being murdered at his wedding and the rest of the book introduces a close group of friends and the bride’s family members that lead the reader to believe the groom’s murder could have been achieved by any of them.
It’s a fast paced tale of friendship, love, betrayal, and leaves the reader questioning who did it up until the very end.
This book didn't do anything for me. I couldn't get into it all. Trevor was evil and the whole premise of him blackmailing everyone and them just complying was farfetched.
This was a fun read--well, most of it was. I loved to hate Trevor and I enjoyed getting to know the wedding party and their hidden secrets. Fiona sucked. I loved the juicy twists at the end. It was between 60 and 89 percent that I started to skim. The narrative was taking too long and not forwarding the plot. Otherwise, this was a decent thriller.
Apt title as any of the wedding guests could have been the murderer.
My second by the author and I tend to enjoy a deadly destination wedding plot. Sadly, this one was lacking in atmosphere, thrills and pacing. The chapters felt choppy and long winded.
I enjoyed how the author set up a nice charade and some BFF drama. I also enjoyed the guests hidden agendas. They are all hiding secrets and playing along. I thought it might be similar to The Guest List by Lucy Foley, which I loved.
Whenever I want to start skimming, I know I'm losing patience with the narrative. There were too many POV's and the timeline was skipping back and forth. "Who is this character again?" and "What are they hiding?" is what I was getting hung up on. I usually can't wait to find out who the murderer is, but I didn't even care who did it!
It just went on and on and on...
The ending was also a snoozer for me.
Trevor, dear Trevor, what a conniving little rat you are, or should I say "were". Trevor is now DEAD at his very own wedding at the hands of one of his very own "friends" and good riddance!
Ok, so we know from the beginning, that the groom dies at his wedding reception but the fun is finding out the WHO and WHY. The list of suspects is rather large however as they all had a motive to want him dead. We get to hear the POV's of Allie, Emma, Ethan, Dutch and Zee and they all have rather big secrets they wish to stay buried.
This was a quick and enjoyable read. I must admit though that knowing Trevor was dead from the very beginning took away from the overall suspense of the story. I still enjoyed finding out what each character was hiding and who had the biggest motive to kill him. I eagerly await Ms. Hendricks next book.
A big thank you to Penzler Publishers and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book. 3.5 to 4 stars!
If you read my reviews, you must know by now that I love a vacation-gone-wrong (in a book of course, not my own). I couldn't wait to read this new novel and it did not disappoint!
In It Could Be Anyone, we travel along with five friends to Miami for the festivities leading up to a glamorous wedding of Trevor and his quiet, yet well connected and wealthy fiancee Fiona. Trevor is loud, obnoxious, deliberately upsetting guests as he believes he is untouchable once he and Fiona are wed.
However this destination wedding is headed for disaster as plenty of attendees want this union to fail. Read along as the situation becomes deadly as Trevor might have messed with the wrong person this time #ItCouldBeAnyone .#Penler #PenzlerPub #Scarlet #netGalley #netgalleyreads
Overall, I enjoyed reading this book. I was continually intrigued by the secrets of all of the friends and wanted to keep reading. However, knowing from the beginning that Trevor was killed, it kind of took a lot of the suspense out and left me feeling the ending was a little anticlimactic.
A group of friends are heading down to Miami for their friend, Fiona’s, wedding. There is only one issue Fiona’s husband to be has blackmailed them all with secrets from their past. None of them are aware they are all being blackmailed which is why they all seem to be acting strangely but they don’t know why.
What will they do in order to protect their secrets and will their friendships last despite these secrets is anyones guess.
Wow this was a page turner and one I devoured in less than 24 hours. The premise is not all that unique but the story was told in such a great way. I loved that each chapter told the story from the POV of each of the friends. The story also unfolded in the perfect way that you never guessed the twist or at least I didn’t. The ending was a surprise in a good way and I liked the way the story wrapped up. I also liked the overall themes of friendships and relationships enduring the test of time and overcoming challenges. This was my first read by this author but it certainly won’t be my last. You must read this one.
Well we’ll well I finished that book and have to admit I didn’t see that going that way! But I loved it. I loved finding tessa gave it 5 stars and when I noticed this one I kept my fingers crossed and was so excited to get approved. I did love this book each and every page made me have to keep going. I will say I loved finding tessa more then ending was a total BAMB shock to me and this book wasn’t as whoa it was good but wasn’t a shock just interesting. I give this book a four and most definitely recommend it’s a nice easy fast pace read.
The storyline is fantastic and engaging from start to finish. Come May 10th, 2022 you have to make sure you go out and get yourself a copy of It Could Be Anyone. Thank you to Netgalley and Penzler Publishers for this advanced copy
I couldn't get interested in this one at all, the author just did not convince me to care about these characters and I didn't enjoy the writing style.
