Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an e-arc of this book. My opinions are my own!

I'm a sucker for fairytale retellings so when I got approved to read this Hook/Tinkerbell retelling, that made me very happy! A twist on the tale where Tinkerbell is cast out of her fairy homeland? And has to stand her ground with the fearsome pirate Hook? I was intrigued!

It's hard to describe much about the book without giving away too much. When we meet Tink, she is on a mission retrieving a valuable jewel for the mermaid queen. She is the only one capable of providing the means for Tink to return to her homeland, where she was cast out. Let's just say this jewel might just be in possession of a certain handsome pirate, who's missing a hand...

I very much enjoyed the first part of the book, with Tink trying to steal from Hook. A fierce fairy to be reckoned with. I still enjoyed the rest of the book, too, but there were some minor details that just didn't do it for me, personally. I just thought Hook was too... nice, for a pirate. Same goes for his crew. Also there were a few plottwists that didn't feel necessary to the story, not without taking more time to deepen out the characters and the story as a whole.

But like I said, I did enjoy reading this book and it gave me some Pirates of the Caribbeans and Once upon a Time vibes. Did I start a rewatch of that series because of this book? Maaaybe... 😅

I thought this was a nice, easy read with a new twist on the classic Peter Pan tale!

The Second Star to the Left is an interseting retelling fantasy story of Peter Pan. In this novel Tinker Bell and Hook are the main characters.

I was always interested in reading books about already known stories or characters, and that was my main reason to request this one. It has a fascinating writing, which gets the reader instantly into it, and pulls us even deeper till the end.

The whole novel is really intense and adventurous. This book can be a top hit for everyone.

Second Star to the Left is a wonderfully written, captivating, well-paced re-working of Peter Pan. In this one Captain Hook is a gorgeous pirate with a heart of gold, a sexy accent, a curse to lift and a vendetta to win against the true villain, Blackbeard. Tinker Bell is not a small fairy but rather a vertically challenged, somewhat naive pixie who just wants to be able to find her way home. For both to gain their heart's desire ((view spoiler)) they have to complete a quest by working as a team.

Hook and Tink are both very likeable characters and I quickly found myself caught up in this delightful enemies-to-lovers tale - especially with a hero who seemed a mix of Jack Sparrow and Killian "Hook" Jones. The story had a good mix of action/adventure, character development and world-building - not to mention a couple of red hot love scenes too. It was easy to not only feel the connection between Tink and Hook but also to believe in the strength of their feelings for one another.

Depth and colour were added by including a wide cast of well rounded supporting characters. The back story of both protagonists was slowly revealed as we progressed through the book, some of these threw very unexpected curveballs at both the reader and character alike. My only wish would have been for the quest to have not been quite so easily completed, though we did eventually get conflict.

I very much enjoyed this book, with its feel-good vibe, great characters and great story it is one to add to your TBR list.

I love retellings, and my students are becoming more and more interested in them too. This unique take on Peter Pan, focusing on Tinkerbell and Captain Hook is a magical tale

4.5/5

I have been loving fairy tale retellings recently, and this retelling by Megan Van Dyke did not disappoint.

The story follows Tinker Bell and Hook who must work together to locate an item for the mermaid queen. She offers them the opportunity for both of their desires to be granted; Tinker Bell to go home to be with her pixie family, and Hook to lift a curse on him. The catch is: both of them can’t stand each other.

The storyline definitely kept me engaged throughout, with the perfect balance of romance to action. I loved how this book almost acts as a prequel to the traditional Peter Pan story we all know and love, which really added a unique twist to the story. The relationships between the side characters as well helped break the story up, and just created such a lovely world.

My only complaint, and what dropped it half a star, is the book is marketed as an enemies-to-lovers book. However, I do feel this enemies-to-lovers was a bit of a stretch, maybe mildly dislike-to-lovers?

Overall, a unique retelling of a classic retelling with an added touch of steam, and set in a gorgeous world. I would highly recommend!

Second Star to the Left certainly left me impressed. It’s a completely different interpretation of Peter Pan’s story. It’s not too grimdark, but it has so many elements of a light-hearted adventure with plenty of action, joy and a lot of steamy action. Sometimes the elements of the story made me feel as if I was reading a story from my childhood. I really enjoyed many parts of this novel and the entire basis of Blackbeard featuring in this story plays a big role in this book.

Tinker Bell has a charming personality, which allows her to mingle around with Captain Hook. She’s running away from a past she wants to forget, after having a deal with the Merfolk. But what she finds herself is bigger than herself. However, I was conflicted with her character at some points as she often seemed to react to events rather than take control of some scenes. She often gets drunk which is quite fun, and I have no idea why but it reminds me of Amy from Brooklyn Nine-Nine (an odd reference but I was just randomly reminded of that). However, she’s smart enough not to get in trouble. Or I wonder, is she? Hook’s a charismatic character, one who has an obvious attraction to Tinker. I’d describe Tinker and Hook’s chemistry as water and fire. That’s what I’d say.

The story is relatively easy to read, and easy to follow. There’s a vast array of characters that have been given their unique twist, their unique personality and agendas. I really liked the way naval combat was written, and I also liked the descriptions in this book. I don’t wish to spoil much, but perhaps the climax and the twist could have been a bit deeper. Otherwise, I totally recommend this novel!

I've submitted my Amazon Review as well

Tink searches, not for lost treasure, but stolen treasure in Second Star to the Left. In a quest to return home to her family. Along the way she meets Hook, they change each other's lives forever. This is not your standard fairytale rewrite. The characters' lives entwine in unexpected ways, on adventures that reveal unexpected truths. This book is extremely detailed in every aspect, therefore being a romance, this is not for children, or teens, but 100% of the adults that grew up loving JM Barrie's Peter Pan, and are so into fairy tales that they finished watching Once Upon a Time - even that last season. But definitely just for adults.

Thank you to NetGalley, City Owl Press & the author for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!

This is a Peter Pan retelling unlike many others, with Tinkerbell & Captain Hook as our protagonists. I thought the overall plot was interesting, but found the romance a bit ‘insta love’ and rushed.

Some parts were thrown in a bit unnecessarily for excessive dramatisation, while other aspects of the story had more potential to be built out and expanded upon.

It’s still a fun, quick & easy read, but I think a lot more could have been done with the solid foundations.

Woah, what a rollercoaster of a retelling this was! “Second Star to the Left” is a steamy, lighthearted, fast-paced Hook X Tinker Bell retelling that kept me hooked from the very first line. Thank you to @netgalley and the publisher for sending me an ARC!✨

I loved the take on the characters so much. We are able to see a bit of a different side than what we are used from the original stories and the previous retellings — I’ve personally never read a Tink X Hook one — and god they do make a fine pair! The chemistry was undeniable and the steam and banter absolutely delicious. The characters undergo a lot of individual evolution, and yet, a lot of it as a couple as well. They have soft AND hot moments. The ending also left me thinking that I’d be very, very, very happy to read a continuation of it — the way the author wrote it made it seem (to me at least) like a prequel to the original story and I adored that.

What an unputdownable retelling. With tons of banter, a twist on the old tale and of course, lots of spice and smoldering tension, “Second Star to the Left” was one wonderful story. I might not have slept. Oops. 4 stars⭐️

I got an ARC copy so I am going to give my honest review. Honestly, I just dove in and did not set any expectations when I read this book. It was a bit awkward for me considering I was thinking of the Disney Captain Hook and Tinkerbell. I WAS SO, SO, SO WRONG! Every chapter made me fall in love with the story and the characters and even the side characters too.

I was just sold by the fact it was:

Enemies to lovers
There was a Curse
and it was Smutty

It was put off at first because oh no, yikes... Captain Hook and Tink? How will this work?! OMG. LIKE I SAID! BEYOND EXPECTATIONS. That's why I gave it a 5!

This is my first time reading a Megan Van Dyke novel and her writing was just magical. There were moments where I knew what would happen, but that was fine, and it's just beautiful. So the story felt like I was reading a Pirates of the Caribbean fairy tale, but it's just different. I would definitely recommend this if you wanna read a stand-alone, high fantasy, romantic, and with the right amount of delicious spice. Not kidding guys. Holy smokes. The spice is perfect for this book its not over the top and it's not lacking, but it's just right. I love it. I am in love with Captain Hook. HAHA! There is something I'd never say in a million years, but here we are. I definitely, added this "filthy pirate" to my book boyfriend.

A Peter Pan/Captain Hook retelling with spice!

Tinkerbell just wanted to save her cousin, but ends up stranded in the human realm. While working with Captain Hook to try and fix her way home, she ends up falling for him

I am absolutely in love with this new spicy twist on Tinkerbell and Captain Hook

Thank you NetGalley and City Owl Press for a copy of this ebook. This is my honest voluntary review

This book was a really fun and entertaining read from start to finish. I'm a big Disney fan so I was of course in on the concept of this one from the get, but what I really liked was how different this spin on the classic characters was. Tink was a fun and loveable heroine and Hook was my favorite kind of hero--broken and gruff but a big softy on the inside. I loved the adventures they went on together and how they saved each other. And it was super steamy, which I am always here for!

Do you like fairytale retellings with morally grey characters, enemies-to-lovers, and epic tropes such as one-bed and found family? Are you a fan of spicy romantasy books? This book is definitely the ticket. Tinker Bell is stuck in the human lands because she sold her pixie dust and has been banished from her home as a result. She ends up in a battle of wills with a "filthy pirate" - a one Captain Hook - and fights to find a way home.

Tinker Bell is a determined pixie who would do anything to save the ones she loves. Hook is taken by surprise when he meets Tinker Bell and can't get her out of his head. Tink is a pixie on a mission that will require she teams up with a pirate that she doesn't trust, but that she quickly learns might not be as bad as she originally thought. Can Captain Hook really be a better man than she thought?

The plot gave some unexpected twists and turns that did not disappoint. It was a fun plot that kept me entertained from start to finish and had me wanting more. There's magic, mystery, betrayal, and a sweeping adventure that built a delightful book with delicious spice. I can't wait to see what the author will come out with next!

✨maladaptive daydreaming about Killian “Captain Hook” Jones the entire time I read this 🥵🥵✨

You would think that it would be harder for me to throw off my entire tbr after simply seeing this is a steamy Neverland retelling where Tink and Hook end up together. But no, it really is just that easy 😏😏

And boy am I glad I read this book.

Tropes
💫 fairytale retelling
😩“It’s not a curse, you’re just in love,”
⚓️ adventure on the high seas
🏴‍☠️ ship captain/pirate hero
🧚🏻 fiesty heroinę
😏 hero bitter after the heroine betrayed him. . . but more because she made him ✨feel✨feelings
😍 hero falls first
🥵 “there’s only one bed”
😭 found family

This book is the epitome of why I love reading indie romances, because every now and then you find a diamond in the rough that steals your heart and never promises to return it the way it was 😩

If you know me, you know I am always on the hunt for a new retelling. And my standards are HIGH. This book ticked every one of my boxes 🙌🏽🙌🏽

Woven seamlessly with adventure, wit, found family, fantastic characters, sizzling chemistry, and tender romance, this book had me in its clutches from the very first pages 😍🙌🏽

If you were a wh*re for Killian Jones from Once Upon a Time like I was, then this is the book for you 😏😍 This Hook was JUST like Hook from OUAT. A tall, dark, and handsome pirate who hides a tender man underneath his tough exterior 🥵 I love the trope where the hero starts to freak out after he starts to feel feelings for the first time and this book was FULL of that trope 😩🙌🏽 I was on cloud nine.

Tinkerbell was just like the Tink from OUAT too, a feisty, slightly bitter bad*ss who secretly just wants to be happy and help the people in her life 🙌🏽🙌🏽 I loved both Tink and Hook fall in love with each other. They were so cute and tender while having cheesy chemistry and banter.

The found family trope was such a nice surprise. I love that trope so much 🥺🥺

The adventure had me on the edge of my seat. This gave me the same thrill I used to feel when I read YA fantasies with a mature, well developed romance I long for. If you are a fan of YA fantasy and want a more well developed romance, read this now!!

The spice in this book was so good and so intimately tender, I was practically in tears 😍🥺

The little appearances and references to Peter Pan made me so happy. (Am I insane to be demanding a Peter Pan retelling from Megan Van Dyke right now? 😏😏)

I cannot wait to read what else this author comes out with 🙌🏽🙌🏽

This book quickly made its way into my favorites list and its never coming off.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 stars | 🌶🌶🌶/ 5 steam

**I received an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review***
I loved every page of this book! freaking amazing! It was very fast paced which is amazing because I don’t like books that have slow start as it makes me lose interest. The story starts as soon as the first chapter opens!
The romance is hot and blinding! Literally every trope I love, this book has it (Guy falling first, Enemies to lovers, Forced proximity, Slow burn, Found family). I love sarcastic/funny bad boy persona so naturally, I fell for Captain Hook(LMFAO) but the chemistry he shares with Tinker Bell is just woww! and the way hes so infatuated by her??? ahhh *cluches heart*. The slow burn keeps you on the edge of the seat and when it eases the spice hits ;) [Spice level 🌶🌶]
Looking for romance, adventure, humour, and suspense? then youve picked up the right book!
Don’t even get me started on how well written it is! The author really knows how to tell a story because the entire story just flowed so well, truly captivating!
Reading this was such a magical experience <3

Thank you to the author and Net Galley for giving me the opportunity to read and review the eARC of this book! Also happy publishing day to Second Star to the Left!

Retellings are a genre of their own in my opinion, and I absolutely adore fairy tale retellings! Peter Pan is one of the characters I've always had a crush on, since childhood. But Hook! He made me forget that puppy crush and got me falling for him hook, line and sinker through this book. God, sometimes I wished I was Tinker Bell.
And yes, Tink! She was always a fiery little pixie. In the movies and the original book, but her character display in this book took it to the next level.

More than anything, what I loved about this book is the fact that it's more about Tink and Hook, than Peter, I loved that! I never knew I needed this interaction until I read Second Star to the Left. Certain smutty scenes were a little too much for my taste, but other than that, I enjoyed the book a lot! I'd definitely recommend it to my friends.

I absolutely flew through this story (no pun intended) and was whisked away into an imaginative and fantastical retelling of the story of Captain Hook and Tinker Bell. "Second Star To The Left" is an adult fantasy novel full of whimsical and thrilling characters that come alive on the page all while facing exciting new challenges and daring conquests. There is explosive and fiery chemistry between our two leads, nods to pirate lore from outside the original Neverland tale, and plenty of exciting twists and turns to keep you hooked from the very first page!

100% recommend this book! What a great steamy read. I never thought I’d want to see Tinkerbell and Captain Hook together but here we are. Wonderful story telling and absolutely delicious steam. Thank you to NetGalley for letting me read this in advance!

I recieved this book as an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to netgalley and author Megan Van Dyke for the opportunity to read this ARC.

As far as retellings go this one is my favourite I've read so far, it grabbed me from the first chapter and did not let go. There's action, romance, betrayal and steam. As a huge fan of once upon a time I'm no stranger to routing for Hook to get his happy ending and this book delivered the sarcastic pirate who finds something he never thought he was looking for very well.

The author took the story of Peter pan and gave us a found family story about a misfit group of pirates who just want to provide for their families, as well as a pixie who just wants to go home. The background for both main characters tugged at my heart strings while their banter with each other provided a romance that was believable. The twists at the end were an interesting way to close out the story and I didn't expect so many in so few pages towards the end of the book. The dual POVs allowed you to get into the heads of both MCs which is something I really enjoy in a book with the enemies to lovers trope.

Bonus points for how much I love the cover for this it's beautiful. I look forward to reading future works by the author.

Review will be posted to amazon and goodreads alongside netgalley.

A swashbuckling, romantic adventure with a dash of spice and pixie dust!

S Y N O P S I S

When Tinkerbell is exhiled for selling pixie dust in a moment of desperation, she'll do anything to find a way back to her beloved homeland.

Meanwhile, Captain Hook and his crew have suffered since the fateful night that he met the beautiful, thieving pixie who landed him with a curse that turns the oceans against him.

But when a mutual nemesis and a shared quest brings them together, Tink and Hook find that they might not hate each other's company as much as they thought.

R E V I E W

I fell hard for this reimagining of Peter Pan, starring Tinkerbell and Captain Hook as we've never seen them before.

This was a clever, creative take on the Neverland we know and love. Megan Van Dyke brought Hook and Tink to life in such a way that you can't help but root for them both from the very start. I loved the world she built around pixies and pirates, and I absolutely adored the cheeky, charming crew of the Jolly Roger!

While this is definitely a spicier romance, this isn't the kind of story that hangs on it's love scenes. The plot is fast-paced and engaging, and the tension between Tink and Hook is deliciously built and well-earned.

I can't wait to see more of Megan Van Dyke's stories on my shelves in the future!
