This is a very good book and yea I recommend everyone read this book. I cried so much throughout this book so go buy a box of tissues before starting this book.
This book starts off telling of happy times Lily had with both parents before she knew her Father was sick. Then sad times. Each times these girls was lied to and tricked. These poor girls suffered so much. Lily kept them together, kept them pushing forward. She is truly my Hero. I would love to meet this lady as she is a true Hero. She has strength and kindness. I think she is one amazing lady.. I am amazed by her..
I want to give this book one billion stars but they will only let me give five. Thank you NetGalley for letting me be a early reviewer.
This is an unbelievable story of strength, courage, and determination during the holocaust. I have read many accounts of the holocaust and of survivors of concentration camps, and this is one of the most riveting. I highly recommend this book.

My sketch …
This is a true story and oh, how I wish it weren’t.
Lily is a Hungarian Jew. Her story begins before the Holocaust. By Yom Kippur in 1944 (Sep 26-27), Lily was in Auschwitz. There she promises herself to not only survive Hitler’s hell, but she would tell her story to the world for those who could not. The reader will know from the survivor what it was like in this touching, compelling story. Now age 98, Lily along with her great-grandson, Dov, carries you through her life. Lily is one incredibly special woman.
My Review:
Lily’s story is more than what happened to her and her family in the concentration camps — yes, she was in more than one. Have you ever wondered why the Jewish people would seem to calmly board those awful trains? Or stand in a line leading to the gas chambers? Lily explains and you, the reader, will now understand.
When we hear, view or read about the Holocaust, we rarely read what happened after the victims were rescued. Did we think they went home? That people took them in? What did we assume? This was the section of her story that taught me things I never knew.
At times, I had to put the book down and let my heart grasp what I had just read. And my mind.
Lily’s Promise will make you feel. Be sure to read the publisher’s description; you can read it on Amazon or NetGalley. I wish I were better with words for Lily’s story deserves better than me.
Personally, I would love to meet Lily Ebert. To tell her in person “Thank You for telling your story and you are precious and special to everyone who knows you. When people read this book, they will know you too.“
Lily’s Promise is a MUST READ for everyone. Lily survived hell to tell this story. We owe it to her to read it. You won’t regret doing so.
I received a complimentary e-ARC copy of Lily’s Promise via NetGalley from the publisher, HarperOne. A positive review was not required; the opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

The Holocaust was such a horrible event. Every year, I diligently watch the 6 part series on the Holocaust so I never forget one single piece of what happened. If we erase history and don't learn from it, we are doomed to repeat it. We must never forget what damage and pain the Holocaust caused to individuals, families, towns, everything. Lily's Promise is horrifying in terms of explaining what she went through, how she survived. But, there is light in all the darkness. The unrelenting love shines through as a beacon of hope and that is the truly inspiring story we need to tell. If you are a lover of history, don't miss this book. If you don't know much about the Holocaust and the terror is caused, read this book. Read this book no matter what. You cannot erase history because you don't like it. Learn from it.
This is probably the sweetest memoir I have ever read. And one of the most meaningful and important ones as well. How can a memoir that includes a Holocaust survivor's memories be sweet? Well, Lily's description of her childhood in Hungary and her strong family ties are incredibly heartwarming. Even when in concentration camps, she creates bonds with others. This is not to minimize her or any other victim's tragic and horrific experiences, but Lily is a very special person and this all shines through.
The book is enhanced by Dov's chapters telling the story of how Lily went viral and his own strong interest in telling her story and the story of his family.
I'm so grateful to Lily for sharing some very painful memories. I love her and you will, too!
