This story is about a woman who is a lawyer by day but is a secret Historical Romance author in the night who writes about strong fictional women who aren’t easily won by their love interests.
I purely picked this book for this premise. There were moments at the beginning that cracked me up so bad and I was looking forward to more witty banter and comebacks from the main character, Miles. But things didn’t look up well when the story was going all over the place and there was hardly any connection between the Miles and the love interest.
Miles was writing her romance stories under her pen name Emma Browning, whom no one has seen or talked to. She was socially awkward and had a blushing condition so she didn’t want anyone to know that she was Emma at any cost. But when Emma was nominated and won a prestigious award and landed a deal with a publishing company (Iconic), Miles had to make sure her cover stays safe.
Miles tried everything to sabotage this deal. It was very unprofessional but still got to publish her (Emma) works with Iconic. So basically, Miles was playing two roles in the book. But I don’t know why she had to keep her identity a secret because Emma had no voice whatsoever in the book, except for the blog part. Miles never responded to Lars's mails or to anyone for that matter as Emma, so it was clear who Emma was at the end of the day.
My biggest problem with this book was how often Miles was referencing her fictional characters between the lines. It was confusing whether she was speaking about her or her characters, not just from one book but three.
And coming to her books, they were formulaic, and by extension, this one was too. I could easily predict what was going to happen in Chapters 45 and 55. Despite her repeating that Emma’s books weren’t cliche, they actually were.
Besides, Miles (Emma) was projecting herself in her characters, big time. She drew inspiration for her characters from her life. Good for her. But she took a pole dancing lesson to write a scene ( it had other benefits) which felt was too much. I don’t think an author must experience everything that must go into a book. In-depth research on the subject would suffice I guess.
Another thing that I really didn’t like about Miles was she never confronted her issues. She was always running away from her problems and if she had done anything about them in the last quarter of the book, she would have gained some grace points from me. But she was giving the same excuse every time anything happened till the end, so I didn’t warm up to her character at all.
Her relationship with Lars was strange. Most of the time, she was running away from him or he was busy traveling so I didn’t see a connection between them to fuel their romance.
I guess this story was supposed to be a hate-to-love romance, but the love part wasn’t delivered for me.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the digital copy of this book!
There seems to be a trend at the moment for romance and sassiness between the leads and I love it!
On the Same Page is one of the best romances I have read in a while and I particularly enjoyed the dynamic between the main characters. I can't wait for the next book from Janu.
First off, I love the premise of this book.
I love the fact that Miles was a female lawyer hiding the fact that she is also secretly a romance novelist.
One of my biggest pet peeves is the belittlement of romance ad a genre in modern literary circles and I wanted to cheer at so much of that being the focus of this book. The fact that it is a shock a romance novelist is even in the running for an award shows where literary circles often are at in the discussion.
Having said that though, I wanted to shake Miles at times. While I understand her hesitency and wanting to hide her identity, I really wanted her to just own it earlier. I wanted more character agency.
This is one of those situations where the solution to the problem seems obvious to the reader, but for sake of plot we have to keep it moving.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy in exchange for the honest review!
A romance novel set in the present time in Australia. Miles Franklin works as a Lawyer where she mostly represents authors. In her spare time Miles writes historical romance novels and is very successful. She writes under the name of Emma Browning and wants to keep her privacy because she does not want her parents to know that she writes historical romance novels. Her parents are authors and despise genres like romance.
When one of her novels wins an award Miles struggles to keep her identity hidden.
I loved the descriptions of characters and how they interacted. There were lots of humor throughout especially interactions between Miles and Jack when she rehearses possible scenes for her romance novels.
This was a romance about writing, publishers and family relationships.
This book was definitely a page turner from the start. It was impossible to not want to figure out if Miles was able to keep her secret and if those who knew, were able to keep it to themselves despite financial gain. I rated this book 3.5 starts because, despite it being a page turner, I found both Miles and Lars to be semi-irritating characters and Miles to be a bit childish. But, if you can get past the flaws in main characters, then the book is actually quite enjoyable to read!
Sadly this book wasn't for me, I had to stop reading it at 60%. I found it a bit confusing plot wise and was unable to connect with any of the characters. It's sad because the sinopse and cover are really appealing, maybe it was just not for me but can be a good read for some other readers.
I actually really enjoyed this book. It was a lovely story to read. I would definitely recommend reading it if you want a quick, sweet romance.
⚠️THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE ENDING!!⚠️
thank you NetGalley and the publisher for giving me this arc in exchange for an honest review. i thought the concept was really good, but the delivery failed a little for me. i felt like it jumped around a little too much, so i got confused at some points until i figured out what was happening. however, the ending was super cute but i was upset with the some of the last words between them. i felt like she should have said that she loved him too instead of just saying she wants to marry him.
Thank you NetGalley for this arc ! Enjoyed this book and would recommend it ! I liked the authors writing style and would read more books from them
I liked the premise of this really shy woman who can express herself through her books and who is such a strong advocate for romance novels. Lars is a great addition to the brooding team of love interests in the world of romance. But sometimes the plot was a little confusing. And a lot of the side characters had some of their stories brought in but there was no closure. I was confused at some points and it felt kind of rushed towards the end.
This book is a wonderful slow build, quirky and complicated at times, with a storyline that will reel you in!
I found the character of Miles lovable and relatable, her anxiety and the emotions that came off the pages, give the reader a sense of connectivity.
Miles is hiding her identity, she doesn’t want to reveal her secrets. When Lars believes it’s time to be celebrated, Miles struggles against him and any budding romance!
Thanks so much to the wonderful author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I have no words for this book. I loved it even if i felt like wringling the main characters neck my goodness so much dancing over the truth that will still be accepted at the end why make it soo long. Anyway that was my rant
Overall such an amazing read with easy to read and follow along. It's safe to say Ms. Janu has a new reader
Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this novel with a kick ass lawyer ny day and romance novel writer by night heroine. Miles and the hero have sizzling chemistry and the romance feels genuine.
I adored this book, it was very cute and very rom com-y.
The story follows small practice lawyer/secret historical romance writer Miles Franklin as she finds her secretive writing identity threatened to be revealed to the general public and, much worse, to her parents – legends of the elite literary world. As if that wasn’t bad enough, her main antagonist is a perfect prince of a man, CEO of a famous highbrow publishing house, Lars Kristensen.
This was a very charming and enjoyable enemies to lovers. I especially enjoyed the depth given to the main character’s world. It was great to read about her relationship with her parents and her friends, as well as seeing how that informed her growth throughout the book. I also adored the romantic interest and the similarities between him and Jane Austen’s male characters.
Although I found the book very well written and unputdownable, it didn’t leave any long-lasting impressions on me. My main complaint is that the story seemed to be gearing up to a big climax that ended up being rushed in favor of an unnecessary grovel storyline.
In all, I’d say this is a perfect weekend/summer read for anyone that enjoys a good rom-com.
On the Same Page was a pretty typical contemporary romance which isn't inherently negative, but I also struggled to like to main character which tends to be a bad combination for me. Overall, I struggled through this one for that reason. Miles was difficult and unprofessional and generally frustrating. Rather than dealing with her problems, she simply ignored them which is one of my biggest pet peeves both in fiction and reality which made it hard for me to empathize with her.
Thank you to the author, publisher and netgalley for a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Miles is named after a famous author and a successful lawyer but she has a secret she writes historical romance novels under the pen name Emma Browning. Only a few people know her secret so she is worried it will come to light when Emma is up for an award. She doesn't want anyone to know and she's worried that all will be ruined if she wins. In walks, Lars CEO of the publishing company contracted to publish the winning books wants to meet Emma.
As Miles is determined to make sure that doesn't happen Lars and Miles start spending time reality and fiction start to blur and Miles has a hard time keeping up.
I couldn't finish the book I jumped ahead a bit and I just couldn't it wasn't the book for me. It didn't flow well and felt all over the place for me. I did however enjoy how passionate miles was about writing her books. Just not the book for me.
Thank you, Net Galley and Escape Publishing for the ARC for an honest review
The story was slow-starting but enjoyable towards the end. The characters were a bit all over the place even though I love their premise. Overall, it is an enjoyable quick read if you do not take too seriously the character flaws.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and Penelope Janu for providing me with an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review
While it took me a while to get into the story, once I did I was hooked and finished the rest of the book in one day.
I enjoyed watching Miles and Lars' relationship blossom and all the parallels between Emma's stories and Miles' life
I highly recommend reading this!
The characters had potential if they were not so unlikable. The writing style saved me from dnfing the book but the characters were wayyyy too annoying and made the read very difficult.
I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this book, but I enjoyed it from start to finish. Most chapters are short and easy to read through, nudging you on to figure out what happens next.
I loved the main character, Miles Franklin, and the story's premise - a lawyer by day and a historical romance author by night. Miles was relatable with her clumsiness, how easily embarrassed she could be, and her need to help others without being in the spotlight.
Miles often thought of famous literary characters, including her own, and imagined how they would handle whatever situations she faced. This sometimes put her friends, coworkers, and even herself in awkward positions but added to the story’s light humor. She also used many things that happened to her to help work out how a storyline progressed for her characters.
I was a little confused at times about the relationship between Miles and Lars, the CEO of the publishing company Miles dealt with. At times it seemed fast-paced, but then other times, it felt over-dramatized. Overall, I enjoyed their love-hate dynamic.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Penelope Janu, and Escape Publishing, for an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review!
