Imperfect had an intriguing story line with wonderful main characters, who worked well together as co-workers and whose relationship grew from that naturally into a friendship and then so much more. This book dealt with heavier themes of abusive relationships and the author did a really good job in my opinion accurately portraying those scenarios and situations.
I did have some difficulty getting fully invested in the story line for the first third to half of the book, but definitely enjoyed the second half more. There was a bit of mystery in addition to the romance/relationship portion of the story. I do think the book was well written and I would be interested in reading more from this author in the future.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read a copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
✨ Review of Imperfect by Holly Carr with spoilers ✨
First let me start with saying wow! This book is just so goddamn amazing!
When I came by this book I, first of all, fell in love with the beautiful cover. It was the main reason why I wanted to read the book and I am so glad that I did, because this is a book that I will never regret reading.
It’s a slow burn with a whole lot of past traumas. The main characters strike up a friendship and help each other learning how to heal. It’s the perfect kinda romance in which the characters really get to know each other and trust each other before jumping into the relationship. Before their relationship they become very close friends and starts to lean a lot on each other. At some point we find out that one of the main characters been involved in an abusive marriage about 10 years prior to them meeting. Through out the book he starts to open up about what happened and is faced with a few difficult decisions when it comes to his past meeting his present.
This was definitely one of my favourite things about this book. The fact that it’s the male character that’s been in an abusive marriage. We don’t hear enough about this and it is so important to speak up about it. There is too many men living in abusive marriages or relationships that are too afraid to say anything, since it’s looked down upon from a lot of people. But they shouldn’t be afraid and they shouldn’t be laughed at or be ridiculed for this. They should be acknowledged, understood and helped, just as women often are when they have experienced domestic violence.
!!MAJOR SPOILER AHEAD!!
I gave this book 4 stars and the only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is simply because of the big reveal at the ending. The fact that the mans wife and her new lover tried to kill him kinda ruined it for me. I know stuff like that actually happens, but to be honest I thought it was too much. For me it just made it unrealistic, but if it wasn’t for that small scene in the book I would have given it 5 stars!
Okay, first let me say that the cover is absolutely gorgeous! That was the reason why I decided to read this book.
It's a kinda slow burn and workplace romance, plus it's a relatable and realistic read!
AND CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE CHEMISTRY BETWEEN SAM AND ALEX?!
Also that little twists at the end... *chefs kiss*
PLEASE CHECK TWs!!
At last, as the cover says ''love can leave a scar. so can other things''
Imperfect has such a beautiful cover that made me pick it up and read it.
Sam is Alex new assistent, they feel an extraordinary attraction at the first sight, but they keep it at bay because they still have some unresolved baggage tied to their past relationships.
I liked Sam and Alex characters, they are relatable and I empathized with them throughout their journey. Sam and Alex are scared of falling in love, they still bear the emotional and physical scars of their past, so it's perfectly understandable their need to be cautious.
Alex's family members are really something, I could really picture them and their antics. I enjoyed the brotherly bantering so so much.
Holly Carr wrote a very intriguing and engaging storyline, but she drag out the last few chapters. I'll definitely read more of her future works.
There are a few triggers, so if you are looking for a light-hearted story this is not the right choice for you, even if it has some laugh out loud moments and there isn't only drama.
This was not quite what i expected, but in a good way. There was a lovely slowburn romance and I was really rooting for Sam and Alex. But it was more then just a romance novel. More serieus as it dealt with domestic abuse, trauma, grieving and there was also a bit of mystery. I really enjoyed reading this one.
I got this arc in exchange for an honest review.
What starts of as a simple romance, turns into more when both Sam and Alex, have to face their past, in order to experience love again. When the first meet, both of them are not ready to find love. Soon they find themselves battling to save Alex’s company and facing his cruel ex-wife, Victoria, as she threatens to take custody of their daughter.
Imperfect highlights the fragility of love, and how relationships can fall apart, dragging everyone involved down. The characters of Alex and Sam were well developed and their relationship believable, battling to stay strong, when challenged by their past. I particularly enjoyed Sam’s character and her ability to persevere, which ultimately gives Alex the strength to continue in his fight for his daughter. It was lovely to see their self-confidence grow, as they relationship developed.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

First of all I really love the cover of this book. I also like Sam and Adams love story, but how it was mixed with different family relationships.
I received a gifted copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via Lovebookstours as part of the book tour.
Imperfect is a beautiful mix of a book featuring a slow-burn romance, drama, suspense and even mystery.
Sam meets Alex at work. Alex is Sam's hunky boss and is also recovering from a failed relationship just like Sam.
Just as they get closer, Alex's ex wife Victoria comes back on the scene with threats to have full custody of their daughter together. This actually pushes Alex and Sam closer but Sam has her work cut out in getting Alex to re-open his heart and let her in, especially since he's been celibate for eleven years!
I loved this book - it was a steady paced read and the characters were instantly relatable and likeable. The little twists at the end were genius too!
This is a great all rounder of a book and well worth a read!
