I ended up DNFing the book around 60%. I could not get into the characters and I did not feel the chemistry between the MCs.
I didn't expect to enjoy this book - I'm not a great fan of the class difference trope, but I did. This story is absolutely in line with the historical romance formula, and yet it manages to be unique. It's not one of those books that gets mixed up with twenty others like it. Gwen is a likable heroine and I enjoyed the steamy scenes. All in all an entertaining read.
I ended up DNFing this book. The writing style was great, but it just wasn’t for me. I didn’t care much about the characters. I think historical romance might just not be for me.
This was one of those "I'm waiting for x character's book" kind of reading experiences for me. I was dying to know more about the lady blacksmith, and I loved her story.
This marriage of convenience between a female blacksmith, Gwen Cully, and the outed-not-the-Duke scoundrel about to run out of town, Kellan Fox. Will they start liking and perhaps fall in love? Overall, it was a good story, but I couldn't believe the love story. It felt too forced, and there wasn't a spark on the page.
I received an ARC from Avon & NetGalley for my honest review.
The Scoundrel Falls Hard by Sophie Jordan is the third book of The Duke Hunt. Gwen Cully is the village blacksmith. She has been keeping up the family business just fine, until competition moves into town and try to ruin her name. Kellan Fox is on the run. He has just taken the brunt of the consequences of he and his father’s actions. He hides inside a smithy, where he comes face to face with Gwen. To save Kellan’s life, Gwen proposes they marry. But just for a year. Then they can go their separate ways. But the longer this marriage-of-convenience lasts, the more both Gwen and Kellan don’t want it to end.
I enjoyed how unique this historical romance was. The chemistry between Gwen and Kellan was fire. I’d love more lady blacksmith stories!
So hot and fun! I loved this one. Kellan and Gwen have such a great dynamic and I adored the spicy scenes here as well. I loved their domesticity together—and that scene with the honey was 🔥🔥.
I love Sophie Jordan and I had a good time reading her series The Rogue Files, however I just was not felling any connection between the two main charaters in The Scoundrel Falls Hard, however I look foward for to want ever she has next.
Certainly fast-paced and a quick read! And the dynamic between the two characters was unique and interesting.
Unfortunately, this wasn't my favorite style of writing as I found things to be a bit formulaic and obvious to me as the reader.
Thank you to NetGalley for granting this ARC, and fast read. The plot was interesting and the story was steamy.
Highly entertaining. I found myself chuckling giddily along at the antics of swindler, Killian Fox. A charismatic personality and a surprising sweetheart next to tough as nails, Gwen Cully. Gwen is the epitome of strong heroine, stronger than most men yet what would you expect from a female blacksmith. She does not long to be taken care of, but a partner to work alongside her and share her burdens, that just might sway her in this unorthodox quest for love. Love literally sneaks up on these two, and it was a delightful ride.
When I dive into a Sophie Jordan, I know that I'm in for an entertaining time with heartfelt characters, shenanigans abound, and steamy, sexy times. This book is no different. In fact, I think Sophie went even beyond the norm and really dug into the heartbreak and loneliness of these two. I absolutely adored this book. It is a standalone but part of a larger series. I would recommend reading the other books first just to understand the con our hero is involved in, as well as why the real Duke is so impressive (and his housekeeper as well....). I can see myself reading this one again as it was a nice, cozy, comfort read with a lot of sensual tension, leading to excellent payoff.
I liked this book a lot - the two main characters are strong and fighting to survive. I liked that both were not raised rich and just figuring it out.
Thank you Netgalley for the e-ARC of this title. I enjoyed reading this title. Would recommend for my library.
Awwww... they save each other! Kellan really is good-for-nothing, but... he's ready to step and help Gwen out. She saves his skin and they're on the road to love. This is an awesome story, and so unique.
Sophie Jordan is one of my go tos for regency romance!
I loved Gwen in the last book, and I was so excited to see we would be getting a story about our favorite blacksmith!
First, I loved that this book took place in a normal town, we don’t have to bother with the ton in this one, and our characters are very much so average everyday people which we don’t get much in Regency.
I loved the slow build of the relationship, the forced proximity, and of course the only one bed. 🙃
The ending was sweet and reminded me of the way I want to feel when I finish a romance.
Love this one!
Read half and listen to the other half on audiobook. While I loved the beginning of this after the great start I found this boring. I liked Gwen and Kellan had his moments, I couldn’t get into the plot. Gwen and Kellan where the highlight of this but the plot itself didn’t connect with me.
The Scoundrel Falls Hard (The Duke Hunt #3). By Sophie Jordan. 2022. Avon (ARC eBook).
Scoundrel Kellan Fox’s life is spared from a scorned crowd by a woman he’s never met. Gwen Cully is the town’s blacksmith who is struggling now that she is the only person left to run her family’s business and a competing blacksmith enterprise has set up shop nearby. As a result of Gwen’s interference however, the two are set to marry. What is to be a marriage of convenience for the period of one year quickly becomes more, but what will happen when the year is up? The Scoundrel Falls Hard is a fun, steamy frolic.
Insta lust to rushed ending. Gwen is a blacksmith and is described as mannish due to her profession. She protects Kellan from an angry mob and they enter into a marriage of convenience that is supposed to be platonic but they can't keep their hands off of each other. Kellan is a shady dude who swindles and steals from people and I guess I had a difficult time understanding when and how they fell in love..it felt more like lust and attraction. Maybe an epilogue or and ending that shows their life together so that we can believe in their love story and that it's not just a lust story.
Honestly I dnf'ed it. I am big fan of the author but I was not getting the vibe from this book. Not the author's fault at all. I just didn't like the book. Thank you for the ARC!
