I've only read a few titles by these two authors, and they pretty much had me at "cowboy." Additionally, I love a good second chance romance, and while this novel held my interest to a degree, there were things about it that just didn't thrill me, which is the reason for my giving this novel only 2-stars.
Nancy Sharp left her small hometown of Windy Creek, Colorado, and her high school boyfriend behind after their high school graduation. Her dream was to become an event planner, and for that, she needed a bigger city with a larger population and moved to Boulder, Colorado, a two-hour drive away from her hometown. She hasn't been back for a decade, and she's only come back this time because her friend Evie is planning her wedding, and the planner she hired didn't work out. Since Nancy will be the maid of honor at that wedding, she volunteered to take a long-overdue one-month vacation away from her job and step in as Evie's wedding planner.--the only problem is that her boss won't stop calling her and giving her more work to do with other clients. Additionally, she was planning to stay at her parent's home, completely forgetting that they'd left on a dream cruise and rented out their home as an AirB&B. Now what?
First things first, Nancy's hungry and stops at the local diner for dinner and to try to figure out where to stay for a month, knowing that Evie and her betrothed, Nick, don't have room for her. Then she bumps into her old boyfriend, Colin McCabe, and his little daughter, Bex, who pretty much steals the show in this novel. Over dinner, Colin learns that Nancy has no place to stay, and since he's in the process of turning his family ranch into a guest dude ranch, he can give Nancy one of the guest houses on his property in exchange for her help in reviewing the accommodations of this fledgling new venture.. It comes as no surprise that the attraction between Nancy and Colin is still there, and here's where my problems began.
Colin is so overprotective of Bex that he is constantly rude and insulting to Nancy. Colin's mother, a former barrel racer, died when her horse spooked, threw her off, and she ended up dead at the bottom of a ravine, his father dying not long after that tragedy., Colin freaks out every time Bex wants to learn to ride. Any time Nancy makes a suggestion of any sort, whether it's about Bex, or the wedding that will take place on his property, Colin balks at it and her. He's offended every time Nancy's boss calls too, and they argue over that as well. Frankly, Nancy's boss is no one I'd ever want to work for--Nancy admits to hating her boss and her job, but balks again when Colin suggests she leave and find another job working for a better employer.
One other issue is the book title. Since Colin has sold off all his cattle, he's hardly still a cowboy, and aside from a couple of horse rides with Nancy, there's really no cowboying going on in this novel.
In the middle of all this, there are issues with some of the bridesmaids, who are constantly trying to change the wedding plans to suit themselves, and I found most of them to be rather self-absorbed and obnoxious.
All of the aforementioned made this novel a less than pleasant or satisfying read, and while it had a few sweet moments and the expected, but all too brief , HEA ending, literally on the very last page, I was so frustrated by some of the goings-on that I actually forced myself to read it through to the end, which is why I cannot recommend it.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.
A sweet second chance romance. An overprotective dad who learns to share his daughter and a party planner who learns just where home is.
I loved this book so much. I loved watching the tension grow between Colin and Nancy throughout the book whilst they overcome different challenges (Nancy trying to choose between Windy Creek and Boulder and Colin trying to make sure every decision he makes will help Bex’s future.)
I loved the small twists throughout the book that kept me turning the page as it seemed as though everything was perfect until something happened to cause a new issue in the book.
I found this book a perfect merge of a second chance romance with a cowboy and an event planner whilst watching Colin cope with being a single father.
What a lovely romantic read. Childhood sweethearts reconnect when Nancy, an event planner, goes back to the town where she grew up to organise the wedding of her best friend Evie. She ends up staying at the ranch of Colin her once boyfriend and they fall in love all over again. It’s not an easy ride. Amongst other things, he has adopted his niece Bex , who he is very protective of and she hates her boss back in Boulder but gets offered an opportunity of a lifetime. Will they end up getting back together permanently………. Thank you to Relay Publishing and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this.
A sweet return home, second chance romance. A little girl adds much to the story. As usual, I skip the intimate details.
