Wow...talk about a psychological thriller. One of my favorite genres right now. This one will keep you guessing and wanting more. I've never read one of Megan Miranda's books, but I'm intrigued and interested.
Abby is a young woman who works at an inn in a mountain town in North Carolina. There are several travelers who end up missing and so it becomes legend for tourists. The newest guest, Trey West, is one of the missing guests brother, and he is determined to find answers, the truth and some closure. This spurs Abby in finding some answers herself, and discovering that pieces of evidence are hidden under her name without her knowledge. She questions her "aunt" Celeste and a close friend, Cory, of what some of these occurrences are but no one wants to give answers for fear of what they will find. Through lots of twists and turns, we find out Abby's own personal connection to the case as well as what happened to all the guests...
I don't want to give too many spoilers since this one is a good one. I even had a gasping out loud moment...have you ever had those while reading? Preorder this one NOW....it releases July 26th, 2022.
My new favorite Megan Miranda book! The Last To Vanish takes place in the atmospheric small town of Cutter's Pass, famous for being situated just off the Appalachian Trail in the mountains of North Carolina. As such, many visitors pass through Cutter's Pass, some more memorable than others. Over the last 3 decades, however, a series of six different visitors have completely vanished without a trace from Cutter's Pass. Even more suspicious is that most of the missing persons came through a cozy little resort called The Passage Inn. Abby Lovett, the manager of The Passage Inn, is thrust into the spotlight once again when Trey West, brother of missing person Landon West, shows up in Cutter's Pass hoping to find out what happened to his brother Landon just 4 months prior. As Abby helps Trey, against the wishes of her aunt Celeste who owns The Passage Inn and many other townspeople, she begins to uncover some unsettling evidence about her own coworkers and neighbors, making it increasingly clear that she must not trust anyone in Cutter's Pass and is truly on her own in solving the mystery of the missing people. This story has some shocking twists and turns that I did not see coming. I was completely enthralled by the story line and I loved the ending as well!
As always, Megan Miranda does it again with “The Last to Vanish” in this psychological thriller. Set in the small rural town of Cutter’s Pass in an obscure lodge, The Passage, tourism is booming with the curiosity seekers to learn more about what happened to all those who vanished without a trace, lost in the woods on the way to the Appalachian Trail. It all started 25 years ago with the Fraternity Four and then most recently with Landon West, a journalist. Landon’s brother, Trey, shows up at The Passage to discover how his brother could have just disappeared. Abigail Lovett, the owner’s niece, has been manager of the inn for 10 years since arriving in Cutter’s Pass. Even after making this her home, Abby still feels as if she is still an outsider. When she finds some suspicious evidence that relate to the disappearances of Landon and two others before him, no one in town is talking. Everyone seems to have a secret, even those whom she trusts must. Can Abby help Trey find the truth?
So many twists and turns, with a big one that I didn’t even see coming. Complex characters and well- developed suspenseful plot that had me reading all night to finish it because I just wanted to know. A bit slow at first but then it really takes off with an unpredictable ending. Leave the lights on when you read this one.
Many thanks to #netgalley #meganmiranda #thelasttovanish #simonandshuster for the opportunity to read and review this book.
The Last to Vanish by Megan Miranda opens in Cutter's Pass at The Passage Inn, an upscale hotel in the mountains of North Carolina. Abigail Lovett is the manager at the inn and has been for the last ten years. Even though Abby considers it home, she often still feels like an outsider even though her aunt and uncle built The Passage Inn themselves. All the disappearances over the years throws the town back into the spotlight when the brother of one of those missing appears late one night asking questions. As Abby helps with his investigation, she realizes how little she knows about her friends, coworkers, and the town.
I'd like to thank NetGalley and Scribner for the Advanced Readers Copy (ARC) that I received for free in exchange for my honest review. I was absolutely thrilled to be chosen to review The Last to Vanish by Megan Miranda, and I wasn't disappointed.
Megan Miranda sure knows how to set the tone and pace to make for an eerie, suspenseful, and heart pounding read. I found myself completely losing track of time while I was immersed in The Last to Vanish. It was that engrossing and fantastic. The only thing that could've made it better for me was if I was staying in a cabin in the Smokey Mountains in North Carolina so that I could've been creeped out completely.
The Last to Vanish is definitely a slow burn read, but with very plausible twists and turns that I didn't expect. There were clues planted very carefully throughout the book that suggests who the killer might be, but there were also red herrings. Because of this, it was easy for me to dismiss the clues, and I didn't figure out who the bad person was until the end, and he/she was presented to me by the author. I'm still thinking about the book several hours after finishing it, and it's definitely one that I will reread down the road. I'm hoping that the author writes a sequel to it . . . that's how much I enjoyed the story.
Five out of five stars is what I give The Last to Vanish by Megan Miranda, and this should be on everyone's "To Be Read" list for 2022. I'm already looking forward to the next novel the author writes.
So much fun! I loved the trail setting and the creepy claustrophobic town. The ending was a little twisty but not out of the blue or unbelivable. Really a great summer time book! I liked Abby a lot and the hotel/cabin was very vividly portrayed.
Acclaimed mystery/thriller author Megan Miranda has a new book out named "The Last to Vanish." This book centers around a resort town named Cutter's Pass. This town has had several people go missing over the years and the mystery has yet to be solved. Abby Lovett works at The Passage Inn and becomes curious about this long-standing mystery. But will her desire to solve this mystery cause her to be in danger as well? Read "The Last to Vanish" to find out!
It was hard to keep track of all the characters in this book, and I had a hard time keeping track of all the characters. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
oh boy I can definitely see where this is going to be an unpopular review so HOLD ONTO YOUR BUTTS 🤠
the premise of the book is similar to megan miranda’s other set ups: small town, disappearance, a host of suspects, one very determined person trying to figure it out …
the MC, abby, stumbles into a mystery after not one, not two, but SEVEN people have all disappeared from the little sorta spooky town of cutters point. the town seemed to write it off as coincidence, but abby (and I clearly) know better 👀
I thoroughly enjoyed the ride of finding clues and trying to solve the mystery of what happened to all seven guests throughout a span of twenty-five years, but sadly, that’s where my enjoyment ended.
the story was so slow, not to the point of the culprit being obvious, but to the point where the ending just didn’t pack an emotional punch anymore 🥴
from reading too many thrillers similar to this, I picked out my top three suspects from the first couple of chapters - and lo and behold …
I think I’m just getting tired of the female MC always being clueless and so surprised at every turn, because let’s face it - if you’re living in a tiny ass creepy town, nothing should surprise you anymore 🫥
a huge thank you to simon schuester and netgalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review - this was one of my most anticipated reads this year and I’m so sad it didn’t live up to it 😩
rating: 3 stars

Last night I finished The Last to Vanish by Megan Miranda. Truly one of my most anticipated reads of the summer and comes out July 26th! I was lucky enough to get an ARC from @netgalley and an ALC from @librofm to read early.
This book takes place at an inn right off of the Appalachian Trail. At this pass there have been 6 people who have gone missing over the last 20ish years. Our narrator is Abby, who works at the inn, when the brother of a journalist who had gone missing arrives. This causes her to begin investigating into the missing hikers again.
❤️Review❤️
One thing I love about Megan Miranda’s books is the way she sets up the book and setting. I was instantly hooked in the beginning. Unfortunately it began to peter off by the end. I’m a plot driven reader and it felt like nothing was happening for a majority of the book. When the book starts everyone is already missing so I kept waiting for another real catalytic event to kick the book into gear. It never really came. Luckily as I was trying to finish the book the audio book became available and that’s how I finished this book. The ending is unpredictable and did have some shocking elements that were pleasing. I’m bummed I didn’t love this one like I’ve loved previous books, but there’s always the next one!
3 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I loved this book. There were so many twists and turns. The main character, a woman, who was so brave and fought to find out the truth. Wow. Such a good story! Highly recommend!!
Always a good read from Megan Miranda! This one has decades of 'missing' people and it's fascinating to see this one get tied together. Stereotypical small town tale and characters.
Thank you for letting me read this ARC in exchange for an honest review! Megan Miranda’s newest novel “The Last to Vanish” takes place in a small town called Cutters Pass in the mountains of North Carolina. When her mom dies, young Abby finds her footing in the woodsy town and finds a new home. Cutters Pass has it’s secrets, however, with over 6 people who have mysteriously disappeared over the years. When the brother of one of the missing people show up to the hotel where Abby works, she grows curiouser and curiouser about the disappearances, and discovers what really happened to them.
At first, I felt like the premise was super interesting and there were going to be twists and turns throughout the story to keep me engaged. Unfortunately, it fell flat for me. I wasn’t flipping the pages until the 85% mark, and even then, I felt like there were plot holes in this book.
This was AMAZING. I couldn’t put it down. Absolutely loved the perspective it was written from, the pacing, the narrator, the intrigue. There were twists I didn’t see coming, and the ending felt resolved. Well done!
The Last to Vanish is a fantastic departure from Megan Miranda's previous novels. This was a very atmospheric mystery in which everyone was a suspect and everyone had motive -- even Abby. Gritty, unpredictable, and twisty, I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the dark history of the small town by the Appalachian trail.
When I read descriptions of Megan Miranda’s books, they always sound great, but most have yet to WOW me. The Last to Vanish had a promising start for me. The setting was well drawn and I wanted to read on to discover whether the disappearances of the hikers had been due to foul play, natural accidents, or perhaps something paranormal. I felt the story could go in any direction. Overall I enjoyed the character development and the buildup. It is a good thriller and the reveal of what happened to the hikers was a surprise to me. I think this is the most enjoyable Megan Miranda book that I have read so far. I will keep reading her books and will suggest to others.
Thank you, Scribner and NetGalley, for the digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Seven people have vanished over 30 years and nothing has ever been found. Narrated by a young woman who has lived in this small town for 10 years so is still considered an outsider, this book has it all. If you ask questions, you may also vanish. This books is at time pulse pounding, fascinating, scary, creepy and always well written.
I've said this before, but it doesn't feel like summer to me until I have the latest Megan Miranda thriller in my hands. The Last to Vanish is not my favorite of hers, but I did enjoy this story about missing persons and the town outsider who had more of a connection to them than even she realized. I'll be handing this one to my mystery and thriller fans.
This isn't my favorite Megan Miranda book but it was ok. The story kept me guessing and entertained. There were twists I didn't see coming and I thought everything well thought out and defined.
I tend to give Megan Miranda's books three stars so it looks like that trend continues. The Last to Vanish is an atmospheric mystery set in a small mountain town. You really feel like you're in this setting as you read. The story itself? I would say it's good enough to keep you reading until the end. But I would not categorize this as a suspense or thriller novel. It's a good straightforward mystery for sure, there just isn't much tension or high stakes.
Things happen very slowly. You follow Abby as she works at the inn that's near the trails people hike, where so many have gone missing with no real explanation. She's content to do her job and hopes to be truly accepted by the townsfolk since she wasn't born in Cutter's Pass. Until the brother of the last man to go missing shows up. Now she's questioning everything and has to investigate the previous disappearances.
I would recommend The Last to Vanish for people that like atmospheric settings with lots of descriptions of said settings. For those who just want to get lost in a story and not have to think too much about where it's going. Don't expect to be on the edge of your seat and maybe suspend disbelief and you won't be disappointed.
Abby Lovett has worked at the Cutter's Pass Passage Inn ever since she arrived in the town ten years ago. The inn is a popular tourist attraction not just due to its proximity to some amazing hiking trails, but also its mysterious history of a total six previous lodgers "vanishing" over the span of 25 years. When the brother of the most recent to go missing shows up at the inn, Abby finds herself tangled into the mystery of what happened to Landon and the other missing guests. Unfortunately her search for the truth puts her in danger.
Having read all of Miranda's previous books, I had high expectations for this book. Unfortunately, they fell flat. The book was very slow to start and took me quite some time to have any investment in the characters. I wish more time was spent on the vanished guests than on Abby and her background. That said, I liked the way the book wrapped up in the end and there were definitely a few twists I didn't see coming. I also liked the way it was written in five parts, giving breadcrumbs of each missing person along the way to help build the suspense. I will continue to read books by this author, but I hope her next release is more captivating from the start!
Thank you NetGalley for an arc of this book in exchange for my honest review.

The story revolves around an old mystery in Cutter Pass, NC that links to the present day as several other people have recently gone missing. Abby, the innkeeper, tackles the mystery head on and doesn't give up until she discovers what happened to those missing. I found the beginning of the story to be very slow, but I kept reading to find out what happened. There are some plot twists along the way that made it a worthwhile read.
