A decent thriller with twists and turns. I will read some of the author's other books now. ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.

I am usually a fan of Megan Miranda’s stories, but I felt like this was lacking her usual psychological suspense, which is even more compelling than the mystery. If you were anxiously awaiting her next book you may be a little disappointed. If you have never read her books, I would read other books of hers to start.

I must admit I had difficulty getting through this one. The beginning was slow, and I found myself speeding through because there was too much description of every scene, every object, every move. I love Megan Miranda’s writing and the story was a good one. But the build up took forever and the last quarter of the novel finally worked for me.

The Last to Vanish is another winner from Megan Miranda. I have enjoyed all of her adult suspense books. The book is dark, atmospheric, and very suspenseful. It captured my interest right from the very beginning. The writing flowed very well. The book had several plot twists and did keep me guessing until the very end. A nicely structured mystery.

I found this book to drag a bit. We got all these little bits and pieces of the ones who vanished. Abigail was trying to find answers. What really bothered me was I couldn't get the setting in my head. I like to picture things. The lodge was it nice? The cabins seemed creepy. Her apartment seemed dreary. The town wasn't friendly. I couldn't figure out how the trails ran. The ending was rushed. Georgia's involvement was not necessary.

Not a bad read, but slow. Thanks NetGalley.

Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy of The Last To Vanish.

As always, Megan Miranda has created a story I couldn't put down. This is my 4th novel by her and every time I start one of her stories, I am completely enthralled. I stayed up way too late last night so I could finish and she did not disappoint.

Inn in the woods, small town off the Appalachian Trail, numerous disappearances over the decades. What's really going on? Are they connected or just odd coincidences? I never want to say too much with mysteries, but definitely read this when it comes out next month. She's so good at what she does, and The Last to Vanish is no exception!

The Last to Vanish was a page-turner, setting an eery scene with undeveloped, shadowy characters. The book starts out slow and depicts a dark, but addictive setting. I found myself imagining living there, and actually wanting to for a bit. But as the plot unfolds, I was happy to be far away. Great, dark read. This was the first I have finished from Miranda, but am now eager to read more. Thank you to NetGalley and Scribner for this advanced copy!

I am a fan of Megan Miranda but this book was not my favorite. The pacing was a little slow and it seemed to drag even at the end. There were a few plot twists that I didn’t see coming that held my interest. The characters were a little underdeveloped which might have added to the story. It will be a great summer read for those looking for a little suspense that will keep you on edge. #TheLastToVanish #MeganMiranda NetGalley

Megan Miranda is a great writer! I have enjoyed so many of her books. That is honestly the reason I kept reading this one.

The start is slow, lots of repetitive information and not much to work on. But thank goodness I stuck with it! About halfway through the story picks up and WOW does she deliver. Twists and turns as well as startling revelations that I didn't see coming.

Thank you to NetGalley for loaning me this ARC, I may or may not have stayed up well past my bedtime to finish this book!

I received an ARC of this title for an honest review. An avid Megan Miranda fan, I knew this book would not disappoint but, man, or should I say, woman! I am impressed. I could not figure it out until the narrator did and I loved every dark, twisty tale and storyline until the end. Highly, highly recommend.

I am not sure if it was the point, but I am totally ready to make a trip to Cutter's Pass. I was immediately drawn into Abby's life at the Inn and trying to unravel the mystery of all that happened here. I had suspicions and guesses along the way, but was on the edge of my seat at the end of the novel. I didn't love it as much as some of her other books, but Miranda definitely knows how to keep a reader guessing.

This story is set in Cutters pass where there have been many disappearances. The story starts off slow but once it gets moving it hooks you. There are so many secrets being kept, so many unanswered questions. When it does all come together there are a whole lot of surprises. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

I have read many of Megan Miranda’s book and they never disappoint. Like many of her books, this one kept me guessing until the end. I was completely surprised by the way the whole story came together. I completely enjoyed getting to know the main character Abby, as her story was slowly revealed over the course of the book. Quick easy read. Highly recommend.

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an unbiased review. I have never read a Megan Miranda book before so I have nothing to compare it to but I really enjoyed this story from start to finish. The author did an amazing job setting the tone right from the start so that you could really feel the main characters unease and vulnerability and the town's defensiveness while creating an air of suspicion toward pretty much every other character in the book. I loved the skilled pacing and unfolding of the story and felt a connection to every character no matter how small a part they played. I've been yearning for a page turner for months and this finally scratched that itch.

A small town resort in the mountains with a history of missing tourists made for an interesting plot structure in this Megan Miranda novel.

Abby Lovett has been working at resort in a small North Carolina town for the past ten years, but her personal history remains unknown to almost everyone. In a town full of mysterious disappearances and less than diligent investigators, tourists come to stay at Abby's inn to learn more about the missing persons and, in some cases, to try and solve the cases themselves. Enter Trey West, the brother of Landon West who disappeared months earlier, who is trying to find answers. As Trey works his way through questioning townspeople and employees, Abby starts to uncover information and discover clues that lead her to unexpected answers.

Fans of Miranda will undoubtably enjoy this mystery, though I personally prefer last year's Such a Quiet Place a bit more.

Secrets are dangerous. The danger lies in the uncontrollable aspect of secrets revealed and the ensuing pain that is a result. Secrets always cause pain. In the town of Cutter’s Pass, everyone is keeping a secret and outsiders trying to find answers are met by an impenetrable silence, as quiet and cold as the Carolina mountains. Abigail Lovett has been living and working in the local resort in town, The Passage Inn, but after ten years, she is still an outsider, unable to find the answers to her own secrets. Why do people vanish in this sleepy little town?

In The Last to Vanish, author Megan Miranda crafts a story of quiet suspense. True to the genre of mystery, the trails of potential suspects are as plentiful as the trails up the mountain. Rather than another fast-paced adventure, the cadence of the story is slow and suspenseful, matching the ambience of the sleepy, quiet town and the silent, vanishing trail.

Megan Miranda’s writing is solid, though character development could endure more depth.
The Last to Vanish is a good choice for readers who are tired of adrenaline-rush murder mysteries and cozy-romance murder mysteries.

Great plot that kept the reader interested. Character development was good for many of the characters but a few had stories that could have been expanded on.

3.5 stars rounded up. This was my first Megan Miranda, but definitely not my last.

What an engrossing way to spend my birthday this year. Abby Lovett has lived in Cutter's Pass, a small town infamous for visitors going missing, for the past ten years, since her mother died. She helps run an inn. When another visitor, a journalist, goes missing and he was last seen at their inn, Abby starts to get deeper into the mysteries that the small mountain community holds.

There were definitely some unexpected twists for me here. The pacing was well done and kept my attention so that I basically finished this in one sitting.

The aspect of this that I found most interesting, though, was the metatext examination of "trauma tourists" and the concept of true crime as a genre. I think Americans especially are in a particular moment in history where we're really processing our relationship with violence and the kind of voyeurism of pain that comes with much of the true crime content out there.

CW: death of a parent, violence

The Last to Vanish by Megan Miranda is a thriller I wanted very much to love. It is well written, with plot twists and great pacing. Perhaps it is just the senselessness of the murders, but I could not warm up to this story.
